    Grilled mackerel
    Saki R.

Casual but authentic Korean restaurant. I got the grilled mackerel and it came with rice, soup, and a variety of small plates. It was very good and the mackerel was very moist! It's a self serve place where you grab your own utensils and water. I would definitely come back again for a quick lunch when I crave authentic Korean food!

This was the last stop I made prior to departing from IAD. The food order must be placed at the counter and paid beforehand. You can eat-in or order it as to-go. There's no online ordering available so one must place the order in-person or by phone. The food itself was delicious but I wish it wasn't so tepid in temperature. The squid bibimbap was filling as it contained my favorite type of bean sprouts kimchi. The soup was also delicious but I just wish it was piping hot. I am certainly returning again when I am back in the area. The pricing is decent for the amount of food one is served. Parking is also easy and ApplePay is available. Just wish it was easier to place an order ahead of time.

Pretty solid Korean food place in Chantilly - reminds me of a cafeteria! Just have to order at the cashier, wait for your food, and sit wherever. The food came out pretty fast for us. Plenty of seating too. These staff here were pretty friendly as well. I got the LA Galbi Baek Ban; was quite surprised with the amount of sides they provide for the entire meal. However, I did leave hungry surprisingly. Despite that, the galbi was delicious, alongside some of the pickled veggies. Overall, pretty reasonable and straightforward for Korean food if you're in the area.

    Banchan

This spot is quite good and the banchan alone would keep me coming back. The soups are especially great, perfect for cold weather, and feel comforting and satisfying. The restaurant has a communal feel where you return your own tray and grab your own utensils and water, which actually adds to the charm rather than taking away from the experience. The food is solid and exactly what you would expect, but the banchan truly stands out and elevates the meal. Prices are reasonable for the area, though you can find better value in places like Annandale. Overall, it is a reliable spot with great banchan and warming soups that make it worth revisiting. They also have many other options other than soups, so if you don't feel like soup, fear not :)

Complimentary hot tea and purified water

Wow! What an awesome experience having lunch here today. I've never heard of this restaurant until a friend of mine suggested it. I have to say it was very quick easy seemed very friendly. I ordered the Bulgogi lunch and it came with delicious fresh sides. Think of it as like a mall food court version of Korean barbecue. I guess that is some simplest way. I could describe it not all you can eat all. I understand that they may give you more sizes. If you ask, I did not ask because I was plenty full from my order I like that they provided some hot tea water. It was almost like a cafeteria style in the sense that everything is handed to you on a tray and after the meal, you're asked to put the tray to the side for easy cleaning. Very efficient and enjoyable! All of it seemed extremely authentic and it looks like they also provide sides in bulk for purchase. I will definitely be back and try another item!

Baek Ban opened semi-recently and replaced the former Chinese tapas restaurant Lee Hwa. I never visited Lee Hwa, but I was glad that I visited Baek Ban! Baek ban is a traditional Korean meal that usually consists of rice, side dishes, and soup. This restaurant aims to provide a homemade meal experience in that same tradition. I stopped by Baek Ban for dinner and tried the bulgogi and the spicy pork. There are big portions here and you get a lot of side dishes, including a pack of seaweed! I also tried the dumplings, and they were pretty big. A couple of things to note: - This is a serve yourself-type restaurant, you pick up your food and clean your own tables. - There's plenty of parking in the huge parking lot out front. They have such a huge menu, so I'll be sure to come back and try some of their other dishes.

I actually enjoyed the self service, but I also thought the prices were a little high for being so. Food was pretty darn good though, would come again to try other dishes!

    Hot tofu soup

Wow. Absolutely no notes. Beautiful menu with loads of banchan. Simply fantastic presentation for a "fast casual" place. I got the hot tofu soup and it came out bubbling on a backdrop of banchan. Even came with some seaweed chips. Really nice touch. Well worth the price.

This spot is legit! At least it feels legit and authentic compared to most other Korean food places in the area. The store is tucked away in shopping center off Metrotech but a hidden gem that has so much on the menu you will find something for everyone. We went with the Soicy Galbi and Grilled Mackarel. There was a little sticker shock at first but was pleasantly surprised when we received the order because the entree came with a full compliment of sides which made the meal well worth it. The Galbi was super tender and had a good nice crunchy vegetables. The sauce actually wasn't that spicy but there is a little kick. The entree comes with rice in case you need to mellow out the spice. The Mackarel was freshly prepared and came in a huge portion. The fish was flaky with a good touch of saltiness. The service was top notch. The staff was efficient with orders and the wait for food was pretty short. Overall solid place for great Korean food! Can't wait to come back.

This is located in what feels like a dying part of a strip mall, but as soon as we opened the doors, I was surprised to see so many people inside on a Monday around 1pm. Not only is Baek Ban the name of the restaurant, but it's also a style of Korean cuisine. Baek Ban (white + rice) is basically middle-of-the-road, traditional, home-style comfort foods. It's not fancy like han-jung-sik*, and not dirt cheap/fast-food like boon-sik**. Baek-ban is quite simply a bowl of rice and soup, and a bunch of ban-chan (rice + side) or side dishes. When you go to a Korean restaurant, side dishes naturally come with your meal; however, the focus is usually on the entree you ordered. With baek-ban, the ban-chan is quintessentially an integral part of your dining experience rather than just some side dishes. Enough of what it is! How was the food? We ordered the grilled mackerel and ginseng chicken soup. Mackerel is one of my favorite fish and it was delicious, though I must say I was surprised that it was not too salty, a common complaint I have with this fish at other places. The ginseng chicken soup was good too. It's not a dish you can easily find at Korean restaurants around here. Keep in mind though it's an entire bird so with come hungry, share with others, or take the leftovers home. *Han-Jung-Sik (Korean + fixed + foods) is basically a set-menu and usually served in more formal situations when you want to impress. **Boon-sik (flour + food) or flour-based foods that are meant to be fast and inexpensive, like Korean fast-food.

Baek Ban Korean Cuisine is such a hidden gem! The food tastes authentic and fresh -- every dish was flavorful and well-seasoned, just like a true home-style Korean meal. The banchan (side dishes) were generous and the meats were tender and perfectly grilled. We had to share between all three of us to finish the food. The restaurant is clean and spacious with a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. Service was fast and attentive -- the staff made sure everything came out hot and fresh. Portion sizes are great for the price, and you definitely leave full and satisfied. Overall, Baek Ban Korean Cuisine is a must-try if you're craving hearty, authentic Korean comfort food in a clean and friendly setting. I'll definitely be coming back! So glad this place is right down the street from my house.

    Mackerel and soybean stew
    Kathy T.

I found this place through social media and what attracted me to this place was how everything was plated aesthetically! I ordered the mackerel dish and it comes with alot of banchans and also a side of soup. The portion size was quite large. The mackerel did not taste salty and was a bit bland and some of banchan were also ok. I think the tastiest item was probably the soybean stew. I think the food was average and I may revisit it in the future but its not on top of my list to go back to.

Their menu is pretty large and has all the classic korean dishes. It took a little longer than expected to wait for someone to take our order at the register, and then also took a little long to receive the food, and I could tell while waiting that they were struggling to get their orders under control. (Another customer and I were then directed to pick up the wrong order) We had the spicy pork, spicy squid, and galbi baek ban's, and all three were decent but nothing special, including the side dishes. We also noticed that our main dishes were cold when we received them. I think the concept is great and novel to the nova area, the variety of side dishes is fun, but the side dishes alone are pretty standard and aren't enough to bring me back to this place, given that their main dishes were also subpar. I think if they consolidate their menu to fewer items that are really working, it could help improve the overall quality/experience and reduce the chaos that they're experiencing, and maybe even having more unique sides or entrees would have people coming back.

AL TANG - 19.99 Super savory with lots of "sea sweetness" and umami, this stew was rich and piping hot upon arrival. I've never had al tang before, but have heard great things about it.
