Went to Backyard for a fun trivia night and ended up having bingo, which was fun. Downside was how loud the music was and the type of music. Our server asked the DJ to turn the music down, which he did (barely), but then it got turned up again. Felt the DJ should have read the room and choose a different genre of music and turn it down as it was a resturant not a club. Paid out $63.90 bill using that method for convenience, and we had security PLUS MANAGER tracking us down all the way to the lights and asked us to comeback to pay the bill. At the time I started writing this review a few weeks ago, there's still plenty of construction going on inside and out. I'm sure by now it should be completed. The staff was attentive and friendly. The food was delicious! I had the chicken tenders, my husband had a salad which he said was fantastic and my cousin ordered the salmon tacos, and she was impressed as well since she was visiting from Oregon. This is a great place so far and I hope it stays that way because I can see myself returning here for Football Sunday. Overall, it has a very nice and fun vibe. Daughter and friend met here for happy hour and dinner. Service was good, but food was not. Ordered a beef and cheese with horseradish on the side. Delivered meal came with no cheese nor horseradish, bun was soggy and fries were meh! Our appetizer was the spinach artichoke dip with pita chips. They forgot the artichoke as it was all green spinach and the chips were chewy. The cocktail was one of theirs and that was good. But overall experience was forgettable. So I have been here a few time before, but only to the bar for a few drinks and appetizers. Everything has been ok from service and the I can say that french fries are great. I found out that dogs are allowed inside the restaurant which is great for the air conditioning. My wife and I decided to go for Father's Day today. The place was a little busy, but it wasn't overwhelmed. We didn't have to wait for a table. The live music was nice. Our server came over fairly promptly and took our drink order. She came back a few minutes later with the drinks and we never saw her again. We waited patiently some 15-20 mins and never came back. We saw her serving a few other tables and hanging at the bar area. I guess I could have asked someone else, but I vote with my feet and left. We left $5 for the two sodas and walked. I'm disappointed because I like the vibe and want to support the local businesses in Gilbert. Based on other reviews I just read the service seems to be a concern. We had a great time at Backyard and I'm so glad we decided to stop in on a whim with a few of our kids. Instantly I knew I'd love it with the art wall and flowers painted on the tables...did I mention the cute VW Bug inside to take photos? We were greeted and seated instantly which was great because it was quite busy Sunday at lunch time. Our server came over quick and gave us some time to look over menus while she got our drinks. It was a hard choice on what to order off the menu, but I ended up with the Backyard Burger. We also ordered street tacos, two more bacon cheeseburgers and a sandwich. Everything came out pretty fast. I loved they had live music playing. It was just the right volume to still chat amongst our table or watch the TVS. The outside patio was nice and is dog friendly. My burger was so good! The roasted jalapeño and crispy onions were the perfect touch and so much flavor! Yum! Everyone loved their meal. Our server did kinda lack towards the end and we had to ask her multiple times for things, but again it was pretty busy and I have a mom brain soooo I'm pretty patient ha ha. Backyard Gilbert replaced The Sandbar so we decided to stop in for happy hour and try it out. The ambiance is great, TVs everywhere to watch any game being played. Our server was attentive and and friendly. I ordered the chipotle chicken tacos and my husband ordered the meatloaf. The tacos were delicious! Slightly smoky and served with pickled red onion and jalepenos along with a side of chips, which were thin and crispy! My husbands meatloaf was moist and tasty. We made a reservation for 8 at 530. When we got there, they tried to sit us right next to the band. We asked for a new table. It took almost 10 min for them to find us a place to go. They were not busy the tables we requested to sit at they said they were reserved at 6. However we stayed until almost 7 and no one was ever sat over there. My friend ordered a mule and it was so gingery she couldn't drink it. Other friend asked if they crispy wings were actually crispy and she said yes and asked for them extra crispy but they were soggy. They are not crispy at all. They also ordered ribs. Said they were delish. My husband liked the wings and said they were really good but not crispy. I ordered buffalo chicken sandwich. The original chicken sandwich comes with honey mustard. I figured they wouldn't put any mustard and a buffalo chicken sandwich but they did anyway. So it had a strange flavor. Also, my other friend ordered the same sandwich, but without buffalo sauce, his chicken piece was twice the size of mine. Fries were cold and just not my style. This place was fun! Met a bunch of family here and had no prob finding a table for all of us. The food was really good especially the chicken tenders. They had two guys on pianos on the Wednesday evening we were there. They we're playing older and newer music. Very nice to have live music that's not blasting the eardrums. We went to backyard at noon on a Saturday and it was not too packed like I have seen other reviews say. It is completely dog friendly which is awesome because it is like a patio setting, but all inside so it is weather friendly year round for your doggy! We got sat at a long patio like table so our dogs could have enough space. All of the staff were extremely sweet and accomodating for the pups. They have a DJ who was doing awesome music, a great mix, it was just a touch loud though. They have bottomless mimosas for $30 with the purchase of an entree which is extremely pricy considering Sunbar in Tempe gives you an entire bottle of champagne for 1 cent. The food was good though, and the classic margarita I had was well worth the $12 with all the alcohol in it. We will definitely be coming back here with all of our friends!! read more

Absolutely unacceptable experience. We came here specifically to watch the college football playoffs (the Oklahoma vs Alabama game) and instead, we walk in to find a Jake Paul fight on the main screen. Not only did they put the fight on the largest TV, but they also turned the game audio off completely and started blasting music instead. This place advertises itself as an Ohio State (COLLEGE FOOTBALL) bar, yet they had the fight on every single TV. College football fans were clearly not the priority. We literally had to ask them to put the playoff game on, and even then, they still wouldn't play the sound. What is the point of calling yourself a college football bar if you won't even prioritize the College Football Playoffs, let alone provide audio? If you're here to actually watch football, don't bother. This place clearly cares more about random fights and club music than the sport they claim to represent. Huge disappointment. read more

Got there at 4:35pm today January 21st, 2026. Briah was our server. Got a basket of fries and four sodas. We Ordered our food at 5pm and never got anymore service from her again un 6 pm. When we asked why she said well there's nothing I can do it's busy. I get it, I worked in the food industry for 15 years. When it's busy it's busy but she could have had a better response than there's nothing I can do. Then throw her hands up and get upset when we asked for more drinks. We cancelled our order and paid for drinks and fries. She didn't even offer to refill our drinks. She got upset when we cancelled our order. It was the duelling piano night also so I know it was busy but she didn't have any problem getting other tables drinks and food but when it came to ours when never got any attention. Atmosphere is awesome. Great open space, with plenty of large TVs for sports games. Music playing but not loud enough that you can't converse. Food quality is good. Nachos are a must. Happy hour menu isn't stellar. Options are good, but portions are smaller so you aren't saving much off of the regular price. For the price, the food portions aren't large but they are filling. If you're on a budget this isn't your place, but if you want some good bar style food and a good atmosphere then I'd highly recommend. read more

Unfortunately, they turn the sound up so high that it completely kills the vibe. You can't even have a normal conversation with the person next to you. They also have a DJ who plays between games, but instead of adding energy, it's just painfully loud. The food is mediocre and overpriced for what you get, which makes it even more disappointing. It's sad to see so much potential being wasted. A few simple changes from management, like lowering the volume and improving the food quality, could make this place great.
