My wife and I tried the Fisherman's Platter at The Rochester in Mesa. The fish arrived hot and tasty, paired with avery small side of coleslaw, fries, tartar sauce, and a cup of clam chowder. The fish and coleslaw were solid--fresh and enjoyable--while the chowder was decent but noticeably under-seasoned. Unfortunately, the fries were a major letdown, undersized portion of dry and unappetizing.fries Service felt stretched thin; we waited several minutes for silverware after the food arrived, and refills on soft drinks and water were hard to come by. Despite the hiccups, the food's quality (minus the fries) left a positive impression. We'll definitely give it another shot next time we're craving seafood or maybe breakfast, when we are in the area. read more

What is happening here? In the past several months, I have seen: 1. Decline in experienced servers 2. Food menu changes on a regular basis, never knowing what might be offered. Very inconsistent. 3. Price increases of about 30 - 50% on some items. 4. 5% additional charge on every bill, to help pay for the renovations. 5. Some staff let go, unfortunately the best bartender. 6. New furniture is very uncomfortable. This is located in a retirement community, we have enjoyed Rochesters for years, many no longer go due to some or all of the above mentioned things. read more

Well, it was my first time (and last unfortunately) and despite recent reviews I decided to try it. We got there around 1:45 and had to wave down the server. It was pretty busy and she may have been the only server and only smiled when we were ready to pay. It was Taco Tuesday and they were good, the rice was dry. The place was big and clean. We were frequent customers on Fridays for the fish special. We stopped in after finishing a tennis tournament in the area and surprised it wasn't packed at 5:45. Walked in a saw a sign wait to be seated, waited, waited, waited an I finally went over to the bar and asked a gentleman who was more involved in a conversation than noticing we were WAITING. Asked if we had a reservation and I said no, which was odd because there were plenty of tables available. We sat down and we ordered a beer and water. He brought the waters and that's the last saw of him. A waitress walked by cleaned a table behind us then walked right by without acknowledging we were there, seated or to say she'd be right back. She proceeded to go to another table and wait on them. Did I mention if we ever got that beer? Nope, we saw the gentleman who took that order chatting again by the bar so we just got up and left. Sad because we were both hungry and hoping to get the prime rib. Well Chili's got our business. We will not be back. Also you all need to look at your bill when you are done to see if there is still a percentage charge you pay for the restaurant remodel. That is a whole other story. read more

Great fish fry. Large pieces of fish, perfectly breaded and cooked. The best clam chowder I have had in ages. The carrots and celery add that authentic east coast taste, topped off by the oyster crackers! The cold slaw was great. Very packed at 5:00 PM so get there early. Great service. 15.99 got us; 3 oz of clam chowder, cold potato and half piece of fish. Honestly one of the worst fish fries we have had. Don't know what kind of fish, but it was only half a piece. The other half was batter the thickness of a potato chip. We called prior and were told it was cod fish. I'm from Boston and trust me it is not cod fish. i have been going to Rochesters for many years, it was and still is a great place to gather for fun dancing food or just hang out. The new owner James is doing his best to accomadate the customers, however he has made some chages that some people didnt like, the 5% surcharge is no longer on there. which i think was the biggest complaint, and the way i hear it it was not him it was the golf course trying to recup some money they had to invest(lesson learned). but yes it is a jewel in our community we can vist there by golf cart or vehicle or walk.... is it expensive? i dont think it is anymore then anywhere else i have ate at, and anyplace else if you have a couple drinks you have to be very careful getting back home, here it is part of our home. Be smart and support The Rochesters. if you dont like it then move on is all i can say.... you cant please everyone! read more

Betty B. Very disappointed with the change in management. They are charging a %5 surcharge on every bill to pay for the remodeling. Used to go in 5 days a week. Left after they added the surcharge and NOT going back. If you can't afford to pay for your remodeling, then don't buy the restaurant. Very Disappointed. Stopped here last Friday night, I was shocked at the large crowd waiting at the door, were they giving something away for free? :) Lively, fun, and festive atmosphere with great food was obviously the draw! The wait was not to bad, 25 minutes, we didn't think to call ahead. We sat outside on the deck, beautiful sunshine to keep us warm along with plenty of heaters on this January night. We ordered a couple bottles of wine for the table, simple wine but tasty, extremely reasonable at $24 a bottle. They offered a fish fry that night, all you can eat for $19, including potato and clam chowder. Fish was excellent, delicious light flaky batter, nicely seasoned. I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised how delicious everything thing was. Had the fish fry on Friday the 7th of November with other friends. We are snowbirds and have gone there for years. It is now under new management who have decided to raise the price 26%. The pieces are smaller, the baked potatoe was a third the size of a normal potatoe, charged us an additional $2.25 for cheese,bacon,,chives on this tiny potatoe and charged an additional 5% restaurant remodle fee. Needles to say we won't be going back. It was a rip off. read more

Last friday we went to Rochester's for the Friday evening fish meal. My wife and I arrived just after 4pm to get a table on their patio. About 3/4 of their outdoor tables were already filled so we attempted to sit at an unoccupied table and were very abruptly informed that we needed to be seated even though there were no "wait to be seated signs". Ok, so we requested a table for 4 with the lady in charge of seating. After about 10 minutes we were informed that a table was ready and were escorted to the table. We planned to meet a couple there at 4:30ish but they hadn't arrived yet because it was only 4:20. The lady questioned why there were only my wife and I present and sternly said she had been burned in the past when she seated 2 at a table for 4 and then the other 2 didn't show up. She then said in a threatening tone, ok I will have to trust you (that the other 2 will show up). I then left the table for about 10 minutes and the lady returned, in my absence, to ask my wife where the other 2 people were. The other couple arrived a few minutes after 4:40 as we had planned. In summary, we felt very rushed, offended and unwelcome by the actions and responses of the lady charged with seating. And the fish meal was absolutely sub-par. We attended the Friday night fish fry for, what appeared to be, mostly retired Midwesterners. The fish was great. The portions are generous and the price was reasonable. No complaints on the food. There's a one-piece, two-piece and All You Can Eat (three pieces) price for the dinner. I doubt most people could get through all three pieces. Of course, if they do they can get another. The service was great. Manon was our waitress. She did a fine job considering how busy the place is on a Friday night. The clam chowder came out almost immediately. The drinks were refilled quickly. No complaints on service. The price was great too. Dinner for four - with a beer each - for $86 is a bargain in today's world. The ambiance was meh. There really wasn't any. The room is drab . The paint is old. The walls are kinda ugly. If that's the look they're going for, they nailed it. Maybe that's what fish fry bars look like back in Wisconsin and Minnesota. I have no idea. Considering the number of people dining there, I would expect better. Deduct a star for ambiance. If you crave a Friday fish fry and a cold beer in the middle of the desert, you're covered at Rochester's. read more
