Wow I think we found our new favorite burger place. Date-night was successful with the large servings, unique perfect flavor blends for their burgers. Funny enough, the burgers are named after people they know. The large fry definitely could feed four. The pig lemonade was delish and came in a massive chilled mug. It had a great mom and pop feel. The food is very interesting, I'll give them that. I got the burger with fried shrimp and tasted like sushi. It was delicious!!! But we made a reservation and still waited 45 min for our table. Once seated, it was super loud and crowded and it took 30 min for our burgers to arrive. To top it off, our fries took over an hour to get to our table. We finally just asked for them to go and had to ask two employees for this because they came to our table unpackaged. It was such a long, grueling experience and we will not come back unless it's lunch time and not busy. read more

We decided to come here since it was around the corner from our hotel. When we arrived they seemed very busy and they said it would take 45 minutes for a table. 1 hour later we were sat. The server was very nice and trying her best as it seemed they were very busy for dinner rush. We were finally called for our table and she asked us if we were ok to sit in a back table, "which had some construction stuff around it" we said fine some we were very hungry and just wanted to sit. Once you find this place (upstairs inside Heber Hatchet) you'll find there's not much better ways you can cook a burger patty than these geniuses. The bun is fresh and fantastic. The toppings are fresh, well thought out and can star on their own (Stoneman's grilled onions and mushrooms, guac and thick bacon were fantastic). But as good as all of that was, the real star is the burger patty. These guys have figured out how to really sear a fairly think burger and maintain an incredible amount of juiciness. Local raised meat that really gets back to what a hamburger should be. Waffle fries are serviceable and come with various flavors. Saoda comes in a big huge medieval mug. All around GREAT experience. The long and the short of it: Loved the food and the character. Atmosphere detracted a little bit. This is such a fun place. We ate here and went ax throwing and the two activities lent towards each other for the perfect date night. The menu was ridiculously fun (emphasis on ridiculous) and we loved both of our burgers and the Cajun fries. I got the Grumpy Claire with savory caramel, onion, doubliner cheese, bacon, and apples. It sounds insane but it was really well balanced. My husband got the Poncho and Lefty which had fun crunch from the Fritos and yummy guacamole and street corn. The portions were big, food was hot and fresh and service was good (I'd love a toasted bun though Backdoor BRGR!) The only con was that the space didn't lend itself very well to a restaurant. The area we sat was also the walkway to the back of the ax throwing and the other seating area was mere feet from the throwing lanes. It was a little dark and loud, and without a natural flow. That being said, I think they have done great things to make it fun and I would return again because our experience was awesome. read more

Fun place with a Western ambiance - different for the Provo area, which was a nice change. Food was very good. Burgers are unique and tasty. Love how the fries (both sweet potato and regular) are waffle cut, and the different flavored salts were fun to experiment with. In the end though, none of this was worth it because of the wait. It took 1hr 15 minutes+ to get our food, and that was at 2:30 pm; shouldn't be a busy time of day. NOT enough workers. There were only two workers seating guests, clearing tables, wiping them down, taking orders, checking on guests, and bringing food, for the entire restaurant, and there are about 35-40 people here right now as I write this review. They also charge a 4% fee on all credit card transactions. This was such a disappointing visit. We were so hungry, but with how long it took, we should have left for lunch after finishing breakfast. Doesn't matter how good a burger it is, this wait time isn't worth it. We were never checked on by our server. Our food also came out late/out of order; two parties that were seated and ordered 10-20 minutes after us got their food 10 minutes before us. We also asked when ordering for some of the fries to be brought as an appetizer, but they never were. Bottom line, this place is poorly managed. The manager needs to hire more employees, and to schedule more people per shift. It's especially unfair to the servers working this hard. They probably don't get decent tips, because nearly everyone around us was frustrated by the wait time. The two servers kept having to apologize for the wait time on every step of the visit (waiting to be seated, waiting to order, waiting on food, waiting to pay). read more

Listen. We've gone to Backdoor since it opened. We occasionally go because the food is yummy and it's different. However, while it's usually a little slow on service, last night was extra bad. We arrived at 6:30, it took 20 minutes for the server to even take our order. After waiting 35 minutes, they brought out one of our 3 orders of fries and hadn't even started making our burgers. Upon asking what our options were because we now needed to leave to get to a movie time, she said we could take it to go. We asked to cancel the order since it hadn't been made. The waitress initially tried to correct us when we told her how long it had been taking, which added a bit to our frustration. We should've asked to speak with a manager, but just left instead. Unfortunately for this business while the food and ambiance are great, the service is so poor. I'm not sure how this place stays in business when it is so mismanaged. It should never take 35/40 minutes to get French fries, and over an hour to get a burger, the whole point of getting a burger is it doesn't take that long. Decided to try this place on 9-12-2022 while passing through. Totally cool place that has ax throwing on the lower level and the dining is on the second level. The dining area is a mixed of eclectic things like lighting and the seating is kinda random with colors. It's a very cheerful atmosphere. It appears to be a younger crowed (this is a college town). But that didn't bother us older folks at all. The service was great!! Food: Total of 4 people Husband and self split the Booring Uncle Brice burger and reg sized waffle fries. OMGOSH it was so delicious!! We also ordered 2 root beers. The root beer was fabulous. But just be advised that it is a HUGE mug!! My husband and I could've split this drink. I almost passed out when I saw it!! Our friends ordered the special (and split it) which I believe was called the red sun. Had pineapple, jalapeños and the special sauce and other things. With a large fry. He had a root beer and she had water. The burgers were 1/2lb hence why we split the orders. The burgers were seasoned and flavorful. By far one of the best burgers we've had in a long while!!! The waffle fries were also very good. Would definitely come back here again if we are in the area. Super random place to find a gem of a burger place! I always like to try a classic cheeseburger at any new burger place I try. I got the boring uncle bryce which is a bacon cheeseburger. We also got Cajun fries, sour cream and onions fries and a slice of mountain better pie. Super unique ambience but really great food. Good juicy burger patty, bacon cooked well. LOVED that they used an artisan bun vs just a generic hamburger bun. The pie was super delicious and a great dessert. I didn't love the fries - I was actually sad to see they got rid of their hand cut fries cause I was looking forward to those. The waffle fries were ok but o thing spectacular. On a recommendation from my son I headed here during my most recent trip to Provo. Food was great! Actually, my hamburger was amazing! I should have taken a photo when I was finished. It was a messy experience but amazing. Love how the patties are nice and crispy on the edges. BBQ sauce was great. It was the perfect balance of all ingredients to make a perfect burger. Although I haven't tried it, my son says the Dan Kelly is good. Who would think to put peanut butter and Jelly on a hamburger, but he liked it. I tried the sour cream and onion waffle fries, and I'm still on the fence with those, and would likely get regular next time. Shut the backdoor! I gotta say, I have some crazy admiration for a restaurant opening up in this time of covid-craziness, but I honestly think this one will make it. And here's why... The new Backdoor Burger caught my eye with their Prince Burger when it mentioned both pepper jelly AND peanut butter . #saywhaaaat? I was so intrigued, I had to try it. And this burger was AWESOME! Picture your favorite childhood pb&j and smush it with a perfect juicy burger = BAM = a remarkable peanut butter and jelly BURGER. No, seriously, the beautiful combination of 7 oz patty, sharp cheddar cheese, salty bacon, pepper jelly & strawberry jelly, peanut butter, fried jalepeno, and fried onions on a bagel-like bun with the perfect bounce and bite! It really is an uncommonly match made in heaven. I liked it better than my husband's burger (the Frank & Charlie--grilled pepper, onion, and mushrooms, provolone cheese, cream cheese and shaved beef.) Therefore, that's saying something. Highly recommended if you're looking for a thrill. I also had to try the Triple berry cobbler as I am a huge cobbler fan. I can't wait to try this in-store though where I believe it is served in the cast iron skillet it is cooked in. It could've used been a little crispier one the edges and a little salt to pop the flavor of it all. Otherwise, it was an exceptional dish. I forgot to ask, but we picked out what we believe is a medley of blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Classic combo. Because it was curbside pickup, the ice cream was on the side. It was a decent vanilla ice cream, but I personally would've preferred vanilla bean -- that's the marriage cobbler prays for. So excited to try this place. So disappointed. I called in my order so that it would hopefully be ready when I arrived. But no. It took 45 minutes. And my order was one burger and one order of fries. Very interesting as I watched 5 people back in the kitchen and it took 20 minutes to get the order ahead of me out, which consisted of 3 burgers and fries, wings, and a salad. But good fresh food is worth waiting for, right? Again, disappointed. These are some of the worst fries I've ever had. I ate one and was like ugh. I tried the Prince Burger as I was so intrigued and it was fairly one note. Very few flavors came through besides the burger. And occasionally some heat from the jalapeño strips but not the flavor. Just not the right meat to bun to condiment ratio for me. I know they're new and likely working out some kinks. But I would be hard pressed to give them another try. I did order a dozen cinnamon rolls for take and bake at home. They give them frozen. They didn't raise as well as I had hoped, but they did taste really good. The caramel pecan sauce with it gives it an extra lift. So I can definitely recommend the cinnamon roll. read more

First off - Props to this place for opening in the midst of chaos. Second off- this place is LEGIT. The Stoneman was probably my favorite burger I've had in Utah. It's perfect. I could cry right now just thinking about it. It has grilled onions and mushrooms, bacon, guac and their sauce. Plus their buns are SO FRESH. They have a bakery too. Their fries were BBQ seasoned which I loved. Unfortunately we had to do takeout since corona so the fries were cold but I'd wager that fresh they're some of the best fries around. We can't wait to be back. We also did the old world which was a great classic burger but with dubliner cheese which was a nice touch. The parties were a great size and perfectly cooked and seasoned. There was a tiny bit of pink inside and it was sooo juicy. Not overcooked like most places. It's tricky to find. You c an either go in through heber hatchets or literally through the back door which is in a little parking lot behind Chom. Backdoor BRGR first-timer, here to share some things I wish I knew going in! Preface: the burgers were BOMB, so read on. First, plan on a WAIT. It took about an hour for our food to come to us. There were to-go orders, a big group who had called ahead, etc. We had a group of 4, which made it easy to pass the time as we chatted and waited. Second, plan on GREAT service. The waitress gave us a heads up it would be a while, and explained the that it was the result of a careful cooking and preparing process. This made us feel seen and cared for. She also checked on our order for us to see where it was in the process. Third, if you have children or older relatives sensitive to noise, you may want to consider a different restaurant. The open floor plan shared with the hatchet throwing place makes it loud and clang-y. Fourth, the food is UNREAL. It is MORE than worth the wait, and is very reasonably priced for a gourmet burger! The unique, family based items on the menu are delicious. The meat is meant to be pink, and I'm of the opinion that the messier the burger, THE BETTER. Fifth, there are only 4 tables, so it can be hard to find a seat if it's busy. There is a small one person bathroom that while small, is well kept and VERY clean. Both old and new music kept the atmosphere fun! Back Door BRGR will have our service again, that is for SURE. Four stars because the wait was quite a bit, but the food deserves all the praise! When your inner lumber jack is looking to lay down his ax and grab a burger be sure he has patience. We were in the area and my wife suggested we grab a tasty bite from this back door hole in the wall. She and her rough neck friends had once fed their gullets in this modern day loggers saloon. Before they moseyed on their way to try their hand at dipping into wax next door. She loved the mashup of flavors she had before and thought I would like to chop away at these fresh cuts of beef. Tucked away inside an ax throwing venue the restaurant seems to be the secondary function of this saloon. There are fewer tables for those looking to fill their gut after a long day of whacking at the trees we call life. It appeared to this weary feller that those who tried their hand at throwing the literal axes life at wooden targets were served more promptly. We waited for our food for quite some time that we almost started to saw logs right there at the table. We got served our fried taters about 10 min before the beef came out. The taters we good the sour cream and onion were suggested by the little lass that served us. They were dusted with a seasoning that this duo just did not care to much for. We much preferred the ones dusted with seasoned earth aka salt. Alas our burgers finally came and the long awaited flavors could not have hit the chatter marks of our tongues quicker. As our guts were merely still impatient with the long wait for those burgers that some might say go against the grain of the typical burger. The burgers were dense and full of flavor. With all that went into making them our mouths were wanting to taste each level that went into building them, but they only melded into one which had been turned to a masterpiece. I had the which needed something just a little more to hoist it to the next level perhaps some grilled jalapeños would have been the tongue and groove that could have bound it all together. As more growth rings continue to emerge from this establishment I would hope they work on their timings. for that is the biggest flaw in this so come armed with more than your ax and appetite for patience may be your greatest tool for this lumberyard. read more

On a road trip, it's 2:00pm and we're hungry for a burger! Searched Yelp and stopped in the Backdoor BRGR to get some hopefully tasty burgers. We ordered a Stoneman ($12) with gluten free bun and a Grumpy Claire ($12) and fries. Five 's are not good enough for these burgers!!! These were easily a 10 out of 10's rating! The burgers were so big and juicy they hung an inch outside the bun. Seriously, the best burgers we've had maybe in forever. We could have easily split one hamburger between the two of us and shared the waffle cut fries. The fries were also perfectly cooked. A bit crunchy on the outside but tender and hot on the inside. I also loved that the beef is locally sourced and grass feed!!! We will be back for more!!!! YUM YUM YUM!!!! By the way, it took 10-15 minutes to get our food. We were seated immediately. read more

A REALLY great burger! So much better then some of the other burger places in town, particularly their neighbor a few doors over. Super creative and unique flavor and topping combos. Huge portion for the price- you won't leave hungry! Also, the BEST fry sauce I've had. It's unique and made in house! We had a great experience at Backdoor BRGR. The sodas are served in giant metal mugs, and the food portions are huge too. There are tons of different fry seasonings available on the table, the fry sauce is good, and the unique burger flavor combinations were fun. I've been Backdoor BRG many times and so I think it's probably time that I leave a review. This place has many unique burgers. Each time I've tried to try a different burger. Today I had the Frank and Charlie burger. It's awesome! it's kind of like a Philly cheesesteak burger. Little messy but worth it for taste and for a unique experience with alchemy between two buns. I think I have found my favorite and I'll stop playing menu roulette. The sides are amazing too.
