The lighting and seating feel eclectic without being uncomfortable--casual, inviting, and easy to settle into. Our waitress, Avery, was excellent. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to walk us through the menu, which made ordering easy. We shared a large order of fries between the three of us, and they were more than enough. The fry sauce stood out immediately--definitely not the standard Utah variety--and genuinely excellent. On Avery's recommendation, I ordered the Cowboy in LA, and I'm very glad I did. The flavors were well-balanced and bold, and it was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. My son and his friend both ordered the Stoneman burger and agreed it was really good as well. First time in Utah, and we chose Backdoor BRGR for the first meal of our trip. We made the right choice! We parked in the back of the building, and entered through the BACKDOOR. It felt a little odd walking through the back @ first, as we got a little peek into the kitchen. It didn't seem like we should have been back there, but once we got to the host area, we were assured that entering through the back is completely fine. As we sat there, we noticed many people doing the same thing. The place is western theme. Lots of fun pictures on the walls, random lighting and chairs, I personally loved the vibe. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful with suggestions on the menu. We felt right at home, great hospitality here. I wanted to try a burger that sounded really out of the ordinary, so I got the Grumpy Claire. It has apples on it, a savory caramel sauce, it just sounded insane, and I had to try it out. I also got an order of onion rings. The burger was cooked to perfection, had great flavor and was more delicious than I imagined. My husband got the Poco Bueno. I tried a bite, I did not like it. The reason I did not order it was because that sounded like a burger I'd find at any regular burger joint. The problem I had with the burger was the seasonings used. It tasted like a very strong taco seasoning was added to the patty. I do not like taco seasoning at all, so this was a No from me. My husband got an order of fries with his burger, which were very good! &Their fry sauce is amazing! The staff makes you feel like part of the family & check in on you consistently throughout your visit. The part that stood out the most was that not only was our waitress checking in on us, the other waitstaff would come by and ask how we were doing as well. The owner came over to chat with us too. She came up, introduced herself, asked how our meal was, and we talked with her for several minutes to follow. I appreciated that experience. Pretty vibey place. Western theme is quite clear and is added to it with having axe-throwing upstairs. Food did not disappoint, the burger was a delicious mess! So many unique concoctions to choose from. The fries were also very crispy and excellent. Prices were a little bit high on the sides/drinks. Also, could just be today, but there was just one poor waiter handling the entire restaurant so service was extremely slow. Went for lunch, there were about 5 other tables taken and service was a bit slow but food was very hot and fresh. My biggest complaint was the kids meals came last. The burgers weren't our favorite but the shakes were to die for, especially the Oreo shake. The Dan Kelly was like a peanut butter sandwich with lots of pb and too much jelly and a burger patty inserted into the middle of it. I had to scrape off all the pb and jelly in order to taste the burger, which was actually quite good. My regrets doubled when my wife gave me a taste of her poco bueno. I actually wished I had just gone with a traditional burger. The fries weee excellent for about two minutes, after which they cooled and became just plain gross. Good thing we only ordered a regular fries to share ($6, $11 for a large). Our kid seemed happy with the kid's meal. Won't be going back because $55 is way too much for what we got, and I wasn't allowed to ask for no sauce on the burger I wanted. My mouth still tastes like peanut butter. read more

This place was a nice find just off Main Street in Provo. There is extremely limited parking so be sure to take that into consideration when planning a trip here. I ordered their old world burger on a lettuce bed because I'm gluten free. It was a $3 surcharge which I think is a little ridiculous when lettuce is so cheap. I also got a regular fry. The meat was cooked well and was a good medium. The lettuce bed was okay if rather have a lettuce wrap. The fries were not very good and they didn't come with the burger. Another pet peeve of mine. I don't like having to order everything separate it just feels like a money grab. The service was friendly and was great about my allergies. Top favorite burger spot! Backdoor BRGR offers probably the most unique flavors combinations for burgers around! I am obssessed with their Dan Kelly burger which has a raspberry jalapeno jam on it and peanut butter. Some of their menu is always available, whereas some of the specials are dependent on the day. Their specials include burgers with apples and caramel sauce (grumpy claire), cream cheese and mushroom (frank & charlie), jalapeno cream cheese and pulled pork (Colorado), coconut lime jelly and dill (Lucy I'm home), and other fun combos! If you're not feeling adventurous, they have tons of more classic combinations too. My husband loves the Boring Uncle Bryce (your classic burger) and the Stoneman which has guacamole, mushrooms, and bacon. They have GF buns and also the best waffle fries around! Four different seasoning shakers are available too, we love the Cajun seasoning the most. They have salt, sour cream and onion, and bbq too. Sweet potato waffle fries are also available, but we prefer the regular waffle fries by far. Super filling place, btw! Also it has a lot of character to it. Has a parking lot and I got the last spot at 6:30 on a Saturday. Going through the ax place wasn't a problem. The restaurant itself is super cute with mismatched furniture and light fixtures that totally work together. I deducted a star because I started my order asking "how do I order a burger for a friend? I want it to be ready when I'm leaving so it's not cold when I bring it to him." The waitress understood and said she'd put it in when we were getting ready to leave. Cool. We ordered. Probably 10 min later she comes out and says they don't actually have the item my daughter ordered. She picked something else but wondered how it took that long to figure out. Then they bring out my burger and my friend's to-go burger first . My kids' food didn't come out until 15 minutes later. I think it's common knowledge that the food for the table should all come out at the same time but definitely don't bring the kids' food out way later! They get antsy! And I didn't want to eat before my kids so my friend's burger and mine were just sitting there. I was baffled. The gluten-free Stoneman was fine. A little spicy/smoky for my taste and the guac was so thin you couldn't taste it at all. I did really like the fry sauce. And my kids LOVED their food. Service was slow and we were the only ones there before two big groups showed. Then our order got accidentally put after the huge party. The server kindly acknowledged the delay, but not until we noticed the big party getting served before us. Fries are fun to try with the different seasonings. They have fun flavored burgers, but I'm a boring old man and like a classic burger. The burgers aren't memorable enough to want to go back. The root beer though, do love! The ambiance is fun and pending on where you sit, you have a great view of the mountains. To sum up the visit: food 3.5 stars, service 1 (how do you ignore small part of two people, with no one else there, until a huge party shows?!) Super creative burgers on a rotating specials menu. I've been here twice with groups and everyone loved everything. I got to see and try several creations and they are great. The Mexican burger was great with green chilli, and the peanut butter and jelly was really good and unique. Don't sleep on the fries and sweet potato fries, they are super good. The food is really good but the service has really fallen off. Finding parking can be tough, so it could require you to walk a few blocks. Not a super big deal. They are in a college town so I understand that it's high turnover but it's like no-one in the upstairs is managing it. It usually takes a long time to get your food so they likely aren't good at managing the kitchen either. You get told to wait for a table but then people come in after you and get seated because there is no dedicated host. Or you have to speak up for yourself so they don't give away your table. Which i hate having to do. Kinda puts a damper on the experience from the get go. No-one knows what's going on. They miss things on your order and you can even ask multiple times and still not get it. The places isn't that big but they have servers who just don't seem to care. Every time we come which has been weekly, we see a nearly completely different serving staff. There is only one woman who is there but I think she might be related to the owners. Maybe we'll try again in a few months and see if they've improved. Sad though, this used to be one of our favorite places but the food doesn't override the experience. To get to the restaurant is a little different too. As I was climbing the stairs I was thinking I hope this is worth it and it was. We ordered the stoneman which was delicious! The Stoneman is my favorite burger so far (we have come twice), but I also really liked the Grumpy Claire, it is sweet and flavorful! Fun ambiance in the restaurant. Good waiters and staff. The only downsides of this delicious place are: no changing table in the bathroom. Only one bathroom with one stall. Not enough seating in the dining area. No seating or room for people waiting for a table. Long wait times for food. Short staffed (but most restaurants are these days, sadly!). Not enough clear signage directing people to get to the restaurant from the axe-throwing side and by the stairs where the restaurant is. YUM! These burgers are honestly so good. I ordered the Grumpy Claire and although it sounds a little weird to put apples and savory caramel sauce on a burger, it was AMAZING!! One of the best burgers I've ever had. The apples are cut up small so you get some in every bite, and the flavor meshes beautifully with the bacon. I was blown away and can't wait to come back and get it again! Be aware that you'll have to wait a bit to get your food. It's not quick, but it's worth it. I appreciated that they had a sign at the entrance warning that they're short staffed and it might take awhile. My one other thought is that it would be better as a fast-casual place as opposed to a sit-down restaurant. The type of food you're ordering feels like it should be more casual, and by the time you tip to your waiter, it ends up being really expensive for a burger. Talk about a HIDDEN GEM! Like literally (located upstairs from an ax-throwing venue). All the hype about this place has lived up to its reputation. Came here on a non-busy weeknight and it is the cutest, most charming place for a burger joint I have seen! Lots of unique, quaint decor and framed paintings on the wall (can you say, "Three Amigos"?, I wanted it for myself!). Our server, Matt was phenomenal - can't get a better server than him - super personable, knew every menu item and gave his feedback (what's super good, his favorites), and just as attentive as a server can be. The Stoneman Burger - OMG......guacamole, sauteed flavorful mushrooms, onion, bbq sauce, bacon, mustard, with Havarti cheese...need I say more? Every bite made me salivate for more, and it was cooked to perfection! Fries were a nice crisp bite that complimented my burger. I thought I was branching out w the Poco Bueno burger and it was unreal. The pepper & pico on it was super good. It ain't "fast" food, but it's worth the weight. Love the pans for the large fries. Waffle fries are crispy, and the fry sauce has its own unique character. Burgers seasoned well and super juicy. Crisp bun. Fun flavors make each burger feel like a great choice for the next visit. I love the burgers. Our first time here. After we ordered our food, I thought, should I have ordered a double patty? Once the burgers arrived I was quickly relieved and extremely happy to see the size of the meat. Thick big, crispy on the outside, delicious on the inside. The bun is fluffy and soft, the perfect vessel for that meat. I had the stoneman burger with guacamole, bacon, onion and bbq sauce. All the toppings are very small portion, which in a way is good because they didn't over power the meat, but on the other hand, it was very hard to taste any flavor of the guacamole, cheese, sauce, and the bacon was small portion too. But overall still a solid burger! The boring burger is delicious, I had a bite. The peanut butter and jam burger was not our favorite. I know people like that combo, but it's just too overpowering. We didn't like that one. The fries are yummy! The flavor spice of Cajun and sour cream we loved!! The fry sauce is awesome. Highly recommend the fries! The barrel soda is amazing!
