The food here is delicious however the last two times I was here we sat at the bar there is a girl bartender with red hair who completely ignored us the first 20 minutes or more there. (Being busy is completely understandable but she could've at least put her head up once to acknowledge us sitting at her bar seats and said she would be back to serve us). Anyway We were about to get up to leave this past weekend until a very kind young man who was Barbacking said, "I'm sorry have you guys not been waited on yet?" He proceeded to get us drinks and told her to put them in the computer and then he took our food order and also told her to put it in. I think I'm in love. No, really! I think I'm officially in love. My dining experience at Bacaro was nothing short of exquisite. I was dining with a very large party (about 30 people) and the restaurant was able to accommodate us, which was fantastic. My table ordered a bunch of Italian tapas to share. I tried the following: Stuffed "Mortadella alla Griglia" - Grilled purses of mortadella stuffed with talleggio cheese and served with Mostarda Fruits: Incredibly good, perfect combination of salty and sweet with a spicy fig jam. It was remarkable how well the flavors worked together. New World Bruschetta Buffalo Mozzarella, Roasted Red Peppers Agro Dolce & Wild Rocket: Really good, flavors went great together, bread was crisp and toppings were just the right amount. Grilled Figs drizzled with Local Wildflower Honey: So amazing! They were warm and delicious and just melted in your mouth. A burst of fresh flavors... absolute perfection. Gratin of Scallops and Pancetta: We should have ordered more of this. We only had one and I probably monopolized it! The scallops were chopped up with the pancetta and then covered in the herby bread crumb mixture. Really delicious! It was a novel take on Scallops with Bacon! Wood-Grilled "Piadina" - Grilled flat bread with chickpea puree, Jerusalem artichoke chips, smoked capsicum, lemon, crispy parsley & virgin olive oil: Such a great vegetarian option. Sounds like a lot of ingredients, but it all worked well together. The Jerusalem artichoke chips were great! My first time trying that! Fried Olives: Again, something I had never tried, but it was surprisingly good! The olives were still hot! Crostini with Salt-Cured Foie Gras and Homemade Sweet Blackberry Jam: My first experience with Foie Gras and I really did enjoy it! It was sliced thin, so it wasn't overwhelming in any way, and the blackberry jam was the perfect accent! Next it was time for dinner... shockingly I still had room in my belly to polish it off!!! I had the Wood-Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Wild Mushrooms and Fresh Rosemary, homemade apple sauce, mashed potatoes. I usually shy away from ordering pork at restaurants. I never feel compelled to. I stick with chicken, beef or seafood, but I'm SO glad I chose the pork because it was honestly the best pork I've ever had. The tenderloin was so juicy! The applesauce and mushrooms were a perfect accompaniment to the meat. It was a little bit of heaven! I also tasted a friend's Wood-Grilled Steak "Pizzaiolo" -bistro steak topped with roasted San Marzano tomatoes and sweet garlic with roasted potatoes, which was also divine! Finally, dessert. Wow. Seriously. Wow. I had the sweet potato and pumpkin crostada which was soooo good. It wasn't overly sweetened or seasoned. Just very fresh flavors in a delicious crust, swimming in a pool of happiness aka creme anglaise. The lavender panna cotta was amazing! So creamy... just absolutely incredible. Bacaro was our first dinner out since the pandemic. It was a perfect night outside on their patio. We felt very safe. All the waitstaff wore masks and kept a distance. There was large bottles of hand sanitizer at the entrances. Their pizza is always amazing , but even better when it's hot out of their oven. My husband and I split the arrabiata pizza and the pizza Bianca. I ordered extra goat cheese drizzle on the side .,, soooo good! My friend loved the prosciutto di Parma pizza. This place is amazing. I recently moved from Boston and was craving some North-end-style fresh pasta, so I ordered from Bacaro through Caviar. I can't wait to go back in person! The fresh egg pasta con I funghi is amazing. It's literally sitting half-eaten next to me while I type this, because I don't want the experience of eating it to end before fully appreciating it (and letting the world know.) I called the restaurant before ordering to ask about vegan options for my partner, and they were very friendly and helpful! This is a high end spot to really impress the one you love. It's located in a well redefined old warehouse. The servers are prompt and quick to seat you. Be prepared to spend - but you get well prepared food with a classy selection. Your server asks a series of questions - it seems like they want to get it right. I was most impressed that they have their own party chef and everything is made to order. It through me off a little when he asked us if we wanted dessert at the very beginning. My boyfriend and I visited Bacaro for the first time on Valentines Day. Everything was really great from start to finish. We had a 7pm reservation and got right in at that time - it wasn't as busy as I thought it was going to be. The service was excellent and our waitress recommended different options to us throughout the meal. I love that you can build your own cheese board or select a few tapas to try by marking up the sheet and giving it to your waitress. We tried two tapas - the eggplant and the arancini. Both were so good and just enough for us to each have a couple bites. It's a great way to try multiple things from the menu without getting too full. For my entree I ordered the pasta funghi. The waitress said that was her favorite meal on the menu. I thought it was going to be heavy but it was actually super light but still really flavorful. It had mushrooms, a silky sauce, and an egg on top. My boyfriend had the bolognese which was great too. For dessert we split the cannoli cones. They're tiny but a lot heavier than they look! My husband and I went here for our wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint! Everything on the menu sounded so good, it was hard to decide. We started off with one of the "Bacaro experience" charcuterie boards, definitely worth the price! Everything was delicious and it was nice trying this I haven't had before. Bread and olive oil is also offered with the boards. For my main, I had the cioppino and my husband had the pork belly. The cioppino was delicious but definitely a little over priced for what you get. I use to get the same dish in Newport for less money and it came with pasta. This one did not. My husband loved his pork belly, it came with sausage as well..a very filling meal, he took about half of it home. For dessert, I had the cappuccino bombe and my husband had the pannacotta. My dessert was so good! Espresso with ice cream and meringue. It was very sweet, I could only manage to eat half of it. The pannacotta looked delicious, it had lavender and bee pollen anglaze..very fancy! I will start off my saying my experience was not the norm at Bacaro and not exactly everyday business! I went in the weekend before Christmas and right after we ordered drinks and a cheeseboard the power went out. Now, the power going out is not their fault, but how they handle it is. The quick version of the story is we sat in the dark for two hours ate a cheese board, drank half of our drinks, and ended up paying $70 excluding tip. Now right after the power went out they still served us the charcuterie board without any meat since the slicer was of course out of commission. Since they served us the cheeseboard we figured why not, might as well eat in the dark with our phone flashlight, it's an experience and we were super hungry. Getting in at another restaurant the Friday before Christmas wouldn't have exactly been an easy feat. Our waitress would periodically check in on us, after about an hour and a half we asked for an update. She let us know National Grid said it would be another 15minutes so we figured we'd wait. Forty minutes later we had to flag our waitress down and finally call it a night. Now you'd think since obviously this whole dining experience was a disaster they would at least comp the drinks (couldn't really drink them since we had barely anything to eat and weren't trying to drive tipsy), no they didn't comp anything! I couldn't believe it. Since they didn't have power they literally had to write my entire credit card info down on a sheet of paper to run it at a different time. They were also seating new reservations in the dark during this whole two hour ordeal!!! There was a holiday party going on downstairs at the time, I have no idea what they ended up doing besides running up a bar tab waiting for the power to go back on. Again the power gong out was not their fault, how they handled the situation WAS! Not comping a single thing and charging full price was just unacceptable in my opinion. read more

My husband and I hadn't been to Bacaro in years- But it was one of those places we kept meaning to go back to and just never did. We finally got there this weekend. Knowing we didn't have a reservation and it was prime dinner time on a Saturday night we took our chances and had a back up plan in case we didn't get in. We arrived close to 7 pm and it was packed. The hostess were nice enough and told us a table by the bar would be leaving shortly if we wanted to wait for that table- or else they would be able to get us in at 9. We opted to wait and were just glad to get a table! We had been waiting about 10 minutes and as more people were arriving I asked my husband if he would find out if that table was ours for sure or anyone could grab it once the party had left. He gave his name at that point (they hadn't asked for it before) and was told it would be our table. We waited about 10-15 minutes and the party left. Well... we waited another 25 minutes until staff actually got to the table to clean it off. We watched as the staff walked by several times and didn't even touch the table. After about 15 minutes we asked the hostess if the table would he cleaned anytime soon. She stated that she would have to ask the main hostess. That took another 5 minutes. We then saw a bus boy come by and literally pick up a glass- walk away all the way to other side of restaurant and come back for another glass. He did this several times. While I respect the hiring of a young staff (wait staff and bussers) I'm sorry but they need to be trained better. The hostesses did not seem to have a care in the world with making sure tables were being cleaned and set and neither did the bussers. On a Saturday night when it's packed I would think they would move rather quickly to get people seated (even if it is in the bar area). Our waitress was very friendly. She took our order promptly. We ordered a few small bites and then split the Margarita pizza and a pasta dish. Everything was really great but the hot dishes didn't come out hot, just warm. We still enjoyed the meal. It ably vies with Broadway Bistro's weighty entries as elementally-powerful meals. Tapas is a strength - each segment of your platter will likely delight, complement others, and impress with quality. Come dessert time, you may ask yourself..."these bombollini; are they a joke?" And I will assure you THEY ARE NO JOKE. Wine and beer are also taken seriously here, and the lists are lengthy and considerably impressive. My recommendation - sit upstairs, and up front. Once seated, of course pay attention most to your date or whatever party you're with, but glance into the open kitchen's cacophony from time to time, and by all means, gulp in the views of this fair city through those accommodating windows. We so want to give this evening a five star, but one of our entrées, and the polenta tapas dish was so salty, these two things were not at all enjoyable and that's holding us back. I am myself ordered the spinach and ricotta stuffed crêpes with the San Marzano sauce, after deliberating and trying to figure out what the bitterness was coming from I decided it was the spinach itself that had such a bitter flavor I couldn't even finish barely a quarter of this dish. My husbands entrée was delectable, and the pasta was perfectly Aldente'. Other than that, the cheese plate, there bruschetta, and the egg plant Parmesan tapas was wonderful. The wine pairings, were amazing. Our server Kay, was out standing!!! From being in the service industry in my past, I truly appreciate a server that is attentive, pleasant, informative and just overall made the dining experience that much more enjoyable. We will be back, and will recommend this place to others that we know in the area. But I definitely would never get the spinach and ricotta filled crapes dish again. Maybe it was a touch of bad luck and it just happened to be some very bitter spinach on this particular day. But it was an edible. Other than the one dish I was already impressed with everything else that I would still give this restaurant a four-star and we will come back, but it is upsetting that one of our entrées was such a disappointment. This place gets it right. It is fancy without feeling pretentious, you can wear a suit and tie or jeans and t-shirt and feel perfectly comfortable here. The decor and furnishings are classy, the view of the river makes this a prime location, but the food here is the star. I've eaten here a handful of times and the dishes are exceptional; from the tapas, and appetizers to entrees, salads, and dessert. They make their desserts from scratch which no one does anymore. That to me is a sign of true quality, and care. The staff are well trained and deliver professional service, another dying art. I can't say enough good things about this place. I had high hopes after reading all of the yelp reviews and checking out their menu ahead of time and my expectations were beyond exceeded. I booked the reservation through their website and they called to confirm. I was surprised they didn't use a site like Open Table to help manage their reservations. Any who, we got to the restaurant and were promptly escorted to the back room where the actual kitchen is located. What a view! You can see the kitchen and then the backdrop of the water as well. I was immediately overwhelmed with the amount of choices on their menu despite doing my due diligence ahead of time. We started with the Northern Italian board which had a ton of different charcuterie and some cheeses, olives, and pickles. What a great combination of flavors! I ordered the orecchiette, I asked the waitress if it could be made with linguine and the chef recommended sticking with the orecchiette to avoid clumping. I wish I would've went with the linguine in my opinion. Overall, the noodles were delicious, flavorful and a great combination of items especially with the Brussels sprouts! We finished with the praline and sweet potato tart. We couldn't even make it half way through we were so stuffed at that point. It was absolutely delicious. The service was wonderful, our waitress was so sweet and helpful with answering all of our questions about the menu. All items were brought out separately and we ended up not getting three of the things we ordered and had to ask to have them removed from the bill when we were still charged for them. I've been coming to this place for a few years now but things have went downhill. We sat down at 5 o'clock when they opened and it took 15 minutes to get our beverages.. The concerning thing was all the waiters and waitresses were standing around while someone that does beverages only brought them up separately?? Honestly not sure why waiters and waitresses can stand around while they know their customers are waiting for a drink and they're doing nothing. I ordered a $34 scallop entree. It took 35-40 minutes. They were 5-6 scallops all about the size of a quarter on a bed of lettuce that was it. Disappointed at how they can charge that. They tasted average at best. Seems every beverage is $14 or more?? Will still go back and give it another chance but being honestly Providence has too many great restaurants to pick from so baccaro doesn't improve on training people or attention to the small details they will lose customers. I had fish of the day (swordfish) cooked to perfection and so juicy, tossed with linguine, garlic, oil, cheese and bread crumbs. Strange experience. Waiter didn't really know the menu. One of our party is Vegan and the waiter said "Oh the V word" when she asked about a menu item and whether it was vegan or not. Strange. Also busboys picked up silverware and plates occasionally ... as they walked by so when food came a few of us had no forks but two knives. Weird. We were told to order desert at the same time as dinner ... it's all hand made and takes time we were told. I didn't know ice cream or apple crumble took so long. strange so we didn't as we did not know if we'd want anything later. So after the plates were picked up the bill was just dropped off without asking if we'd like a coffee or after dinner drink or desert. Again ... strange. Especially for a place where we just spent $180 per couple. So we paid and walked two blocks to Plant City (Great place) for desert and after dinner drinks & coffee. The food that arrived correctly was good but the service was ... well ... strange. Edited after owner response: We would have more understanding about the staff's encouragement for us to go to the bar IF we had been told ahead of time that there was a time limit. We were not told this when we booked the reservation, nor when we were sat, nor when we ordered. Please communicate your expectations to your guests better! .......... Apparently this is not a place where a party can linger. My friends and I came here to celebrate three birthdays and catch up after not being together for a year. Our server was excellent and super knowledgeable about all the food and wine. She made us feel at home too. The Gorgonzola stuffed dates wrapped in bacon was spectacular. Baked penne was perfectly piping hot and packed with unique flavors that balanced pasta, cheese and asparagus. We had placed our dinner order right after our apps came out, and at the same time placed the dessert order. Finishing dessert, some of us had coffees and while we drank them, the check came out. Shortly after, a staff member (not our server, but perhaps a food runner?) came over to tell us there were parties waiting for tables and we were encouraged to take our conversations (and present-opening, which we were in the middle of) to the bar. It was visibly busy in the restaurant and since we promptly paid and left, we saw many people waiting outside. But this experience soured the night. Had we been told when we reserved our table that there was a 2 hr max on table time, we would have been prepared. I don't think we could have been more appropriate in our own timing though. We were finishing coffees and digesting. After spending more than $400 for the multi-course meal, I would have hoped for more understanding that we needed a minute to digest, let alone celebrate, without previous expectations of our table time limit communicated to us at the onset. My go-to date restaurant. I love this place. They never fail me for superb quality, imagination, great ingredients and knowledge of what they are serving. The wine list is excellent and don't hesitate to try a new cocktail at the bar. They are true cocktail mixologists. The owner's passion and sincerity are present in every aspect. The salads are inventive, yet approachable, the Crespelle are plump pillows of tenderness, the cheese and meat boards to share - especially for two to four, there is nothing I wouldn't turn down. The croutons on the ceasar salad were amazing, I would hate to go here just for that but the salad was really good. I'll continue with the food so my review doesn't discourage any readers. A party of three, we started off with the thin crust Margherita pizza and it was AHHHMAZING! I couldn't believe my taste buds! There were maybe two parties ahead of us who got seated shortly after we put our name on the waiting list, about thirty minutes. At the bar, the rude bartender wasn't friendly to begin with. She asked if we were having drinks while waiting for a table and shared no eye contact at all. She took forever to take our order after giving us the menu b/c she walked away so quick! After we finally ordered and once she delivered the drinks, she asked, "do you wanna close the tab since you're waiting for a table?" No, we would not in case the seats at the bar become available (which they did) but since she was so rude, we continued to wait for the table and were glad we were taken upstairs. This was my first time here and overall it was a good experience. We had reservations for 7 this past Saturday night and were seated very promptly. Our server was terrific. Friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was nice and relaxing. The menu has quite a selection, but admittedly there wasn't much that really stood out to me that I thought I would like. And if you are planning on dessert, you have to order it when you order your dinner as the dessert is made to order. Four our appetizer we had Roasted Narragansett Littlenecks w/Red Sauce. I have to say, they were delicious! Lots of flavor and the sauteed onions were the perfect compliment to the littlenecks. For my entree I ordered the Rigatoni with Veal Bolognese and it was good. Not great, but it was good. It wasn't bland by any means. But I just didn't get that OMG taste like I did with the littlenecks. Once we finished our dinner it was time for dessert. We placed our order for the Warm Apple Crisp Tart. And again, it was good, not great. I felt like it was lacking flavor. It tasted more like cooked apples in a pie crust rather than apple crisp. Don't get me wrong it was ok, but if I go back I probably won't order it again. So overall, while the experience was ok, Bacaro probably won't be on my "I definitely have to come back here" list. Food was below average; a couple hours later I started to feel very sick. Beyond the mediocre food that was unreasonably expensive, the service was horrible. Our waitress was rude, and so was all of the staff we met. And they spilled a drink on my friend but there was no apology or comping of the drink -- we had to re-order. Disappointed to have spent a special occasion in a place that didn't respect its customers. Will not be returning. read more

Fine Italian Food. Good service. Ambiance is a little dull - I'm not a fan of Frank Sinatra, maybe something a little less kitschy and less loud would be a better option. If you're able to sit by a window, especially at night, upstairs it's something special. Small plates: Arancini, Squash Blossoms. Amazing! Salad: Tomato and Corn. Perfection! We sat down tonight at sunset. The dining room is beautiful. I have always loved it here, but tonight was exceptional. We had the squid and octopus salad, pizza, truffled scallops and the best duck breast we've ever tried. Our server Jack, was so professional and attentive. I would ask for him by name. You don't find restaurants like this one very frequently. Old school white table cloths. Generous portions, and classically excellent service. Bravo. We will be back soon. read more

We went as a group of faculty from Brown celebrating end of year graduation for our trainees. We had a 6 PM reservation and I arrived 15 minutes early. The restaurant was relatively empty and the service team refused to seat us unless we all arrived in full. I understand that would be the case if the restaurant was full and with people waiting outside or have reservations but this was not the case. The restaurant was empty. The answer was that they cannot serve us and ruin their service flow. I asked to see the manager who said that was the rules of the restaurant for not seating guests early when tables are open despite having a reservation. I asked to see the rules but she said they are not written but just spoken policies. I have been blessed to have travelled extensively and had the fortune of eating at all kinds of restaurants from dives to Michelin starred restaurants but this was the worst that I have experienced. Not one apology for not serving customers but to be told that I can't sit down just 15 min ahead of time is just extraordinarily poor customer service. Not only was the customer made to feel unwelcome but repeatedly told that empty tables cannot seat arrived guest is atrocious. The food was, at best, average and the cocktail drinks were extremely poorly made. Image if this was the way they treated a food critic or a restaurant reviewer? Definitely not a place to go in Providence due to poor customer service and experience. You should consider customer service training as part of your restaurant hiring policies (oh, but you don't have any policies written....) Looking at some of. your reviews just now made me wonder about this place include the following for which Brian, the owner, reads these reviews but never does anything about his poor customer service from his staff. Now I know this is not just my experience but others have experienced the same. It's a failure of ownership to recognized the problems and only compliments the accolades. "Awful service. Did you know there was a pregnant woman and her husband that went in and were asked to leave and wait until 5 ( because your incompetent staff was not ready at 5 to open the restaurant with 5 pm reservations) sorry, but on no planet is that ok . Neither was the service . you should have been there if you're the owner to accommodate us. You failed .
