Popular coffee spot in OC - went on a Tuesday morning & there was still a line! Parking is easy - big parking lot. The shop is structured as a grab & go coffee spot- no indoor seating. You line up in front & get called to order & pay then wait for your drink outside. Workers were friendly & efficient! less than 5 min wait for my drink despite the growing line. It would be a perk if they had a seating area though (we need more 3rd spaces!!!). I got the coconut water matcha cream & I like how they used pink coconut water (iykyk!!) & the matcha cream was nice & consistent! I liked how refreshing this drink was! I would come back if I'm in the area again!
Saturday morning, 12pm, line is about a 10-15 minute wait but it goes by fast. First visit here, wasn't sure what to order but decided that we will do one coffee and one matcha. Pumpkin Pie Matcha 5/5 - the pumpkin sauce pairs well with the matcha once mixed. Matcha has a great color and taste. I would have added a cream top but forgot. Banana Coffee 3.5/5 - I have had banana coffee in the past at other places but I'm not sure how to feel about this one. I did feel it was bitter and has a weird after taste. My husband liked it and also pointed towards it nuttiest taste with the toffee. Since it's his drink here is his rating - 4.5/5 I think it comes down to your love for bananas lol
You can taste the quality and strength of the coffee and savor the slight sweetness, creaminess, and slight saltiness of the drink. Most people in the line are there for the matcha, so plan to try that next time. I do see them stirring the fresh matcha rigorously. Arrive early, as the line gets longer the later you come in the morning. The line does move pretty fast. Service is quick.
Finally got to try Ayer because the line is usually long when we pass by, but today we had the time to wait. Ordered the mango matcha, matcha two, salted saigon, and salt bread. The matcha two and salt bread were solid, but the salted saigon tasted fantastic. The mango matcha didn't taste as expected, but maybe it's because mango isn't in season. I personally wouldn't get it again. Overall Ayer was good, but will definitely need to come back to try other matcha drinks. The line usually goes out the door so definitely recommend coming early. They will call you when to come in and order, otherwise it'd be way too crowded inside. Ambiance: There is no seating inside the cafe so you just come and pick up your drink/bread and leave. Only salt bread is offered food wise.
I waited 45 min on a Friday afternoon for a drink, which I had anticipated because of the long line. The parking lot is spacious & there are several reminders to not block the entrance of other businesses. The pumpkin matcha was great, but it doesn't justify the wait as it has a similar flavor to other coffee shops. They also give a complimentary tote bag, if you ask! I also got a blueberry matcha, not pictured here, but it was overly sweet. The interior is small & you cannot study inside. It is mainly just grab & go. The music was great! Not sure when I will be back, but I look forward to trying other items!
Always a line here, but it moves pretty fast! Usually only takes about 10-15 minutes. The matcha has a strong, rich flavor, and you can tell it's good matcha just by looking at that beautiful green color. Parking is easy too, and I love the girls working here! They're so sweet. The store is a little small, but super cute and cozy! Definitely worth the wait.
As someone in OC I had to see what the hype was about - 35 min later in 100° weather, I finally found out! Honestly just as good as I expected. The coconut water matcha cream was sooo good. So refreshing with great quality matcha cream. The color was gorgeous and the flavors were perfect together. My partner got the coconut iced blended coffee and it was super tasty and coconutty! Good coffee flavor too. The girls working here are also super sweet and helpful. Would come again, just need to brace myself for the line lol!
Ayer Coffee is constantly touted as one of the best matcha spots in the OC. After a while waiting on the sidelines due to the massive lines I passed by, I finally came at a good time where it wasn't too long of a wait and came away impressed. Ayer Coffee is located in the middle of a Tustin small strip mall plaza. It's a pretty small shop with very limited seating inside and usually a line waiting outside. I came in the middle of the day on a weekday around 1PM where the line wasn't too bad but grew quickly right after I left. You wait outside until you're called in to order with a menu waiting for you at the window. Ayer has a variety of coffee drinks, but I was here for the matcha which they conveniently number in order along with seasonal/special drinks. As always for me, I order the standard iced matcha latte without any syrups. Service was super kind all around. Getting the drink took about 5 minutes. All-around, I can see why people enjoy the matcha, even at the base drink level. The size is a good standard cup for about $7, and the matcha is very noticeable without being too grassy / earthy. It had a well balanced consistency and think it was mixed with solid oat milk that didn't overpower the matcha. Ayer sources their own matcha which they also sell. Overall, came away impressed that it met the hype!
Came here on a Friday afternoon and the line was pretty healthy. Finding a parking spot wasn't bad and we waited about 30 mins. Not much of an ambience since you just order and wait for your drinks. My wife and I ordered the pumpkin pie matcha and salted Saigon. The drinks came out super quick! BELIEVE THE HYPE. Both of these drinks were AMAZING. The pumpkin puree was real and tasted like actual pumpkin, unlike the other coffee spots that sell fake pumpkin sauce. The salted saigon is probably the best Vietnamese coffee I've ever had. No exaggeration.
I wanted to hate this place because how long the wait was but when we finally got to the front we got a matcha 2, and a Saigon drip. I'm so upset the matcha here was so fire cause now I have to wait in the stupid long line again. Coffee was good too very nutty but the matcha was the star so def recommend getting one. Service was also very nice, she brought our drinks out to us.
I was impressed by the variety of coffee and matcha drinks that are here! You could have a range of fruity and tropical drinks to more rich, spice forward drinks. Because it was Summer, I opted for the guava Matcha because it sounded very refreshing. I was surprised with how not too sweet and light it was, but it was still packed with wonderful guava flavor. I was more impressed that they hand whisk every Matcha drink in a bowl, but still, they deliver with speed, efficiency, and quality. My sister got the Matcha with banana and that one was very good. You can tell they use real banana. My only thing is I believe the bananas weren't ripe enough, but I know that it is hard to always have the perfect ripeness for bananas because of demand. This is definitely a grab and go establishment. There is no inside seating or bathrooms. I do advise you to use the bathroom before because all the restaurants nearby will not allow you to use the restroom unless you make a purchase. I definitely want to try the coffee drinks next time because their name has coffee in the title so I should try what they are known for by name!
OVERALL : This was my second time at Ayer. The first time I tried their classic matcha latte w/ matcha foam, mango matcha, and strawberry matcha. The drinks were perfectly creamy esp w/ oat milk, and matcha was strong enough to hold up against all the different flavors. There's always a line out the door on a weekend afternoon, but we only waited about 20 mins and the drinks were well worth the wait. Service was super friendly and helpful w/ reccs. Note that this is more of a take-and-go spot, not for sitting inside. PARKING : There is a parking lot but it is small; might need to make some rounds before you can find a spot. The plaza gets pretty crowded during peak hours! FOOD/DRINKS : Guava Matcha Latte - sweet and refreshing, the guava doesn't overpower the matcha taste and it's a good summer drink! strawberry is prob still my go to though when I want a fruity matcha Pumpkin Matcha Latte - their fall seasonal drink! so surprisingly good - this reminded me of a pumpkin pie esp with the prominent pumpkin taste + the warm fall spices! Would def get again.
The drinks here are amazing some of the best matcha you'll have in OC. The worst place about this place is the line that is a minimum of 20 mins every time if you're lucky. Some days it's 30-40 but when I tell you the wait is worth it. You won't be disappointed. I've come and gotten multiple drinks for myself . The shop itself is rather quaint and only allows like 4 guests at a time. They decorate for holidays and have music playing so it's nice but you're not here for the ambiance. The drinks are great no matter what you get! Banana matcha is awesome but tastes like a banana smoothie, double matcha is great and the coconut matcha is a refreshing way to start your day strong recommend !
really wanted to try it because it's been pretty popular on social media. when we got in, there was a huge line on a weekday at around 2:30pm. once we went inside and ordered, the drinks came out pretty quick. we ordered the coconut water matcha and the mango matcha. i really liked the coconut water, super refreshing! the matcha foam on top could be sweeter but overall good. the mango matcha was pretty good too. read more

The wait for this matcha spot was around an hour on a random weekday morning. After trying the matcha, I can understand why. We tried the mango and blueberry matcha and they were both phenomenal, with real fruit flavors. The salt bread was also yummy read more
Space is quite limited inside so there is always a line out the door. This is definitely a grab and go spot as there is no room inside to hang out. The staff is very friendly every time and they are always hard at work hand whisking matchas. The matcha here is strong, smooth and delicious. You can't go wrong with any of their matchas. My go-to is the coconut water matcha; it's light and refreshing! The only thing I hate about this place is the awful parking lot. It's very small and always full :( read more
Everyone put your hands in the air for ayer coffee and wave them like you just don't cayer. Service and drinks are always good. I've tried most of the drinks and they're honestly all good but the blueberry can get stuck in your teeth. Come get your matcha fixxxx. They got three different levels and I enjoyed the matcha 2. Probably going to be a long line but they keep it moving. Matcha 2: Gettt We actually subbed the vanilla syrup for normal syrup and it was so gooodddd. It wasn't too sweet by default and it was so light and creamy still. There's hella other coffees which all sounded good so I'm excited to come back and try the other ones too. They ran out of salt bread when we were there so we were sad :( There's almost no room inside and the line is wrapped around the outside. With around 8ish people in line I waited maybe 15 minutes? Normally on a hot day you don't want something to milky. Ayer definitely spins that on its head! Today we tried the mango and strawberry matchas. Both were incredibly light, refreshing, and flavorful! There is typically a line (we went on a Friday afternoon) but it moves very quickly. read more
The matcha here is surprisingly good--rich, smooth, and well-balanced without being overly sweet. You can tell they take it seriously. The service is also excellent. The staff are friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The bakery items are clearly in high demand. The staff mentioned that most of the baked goods usually sell out within the first two hours after opening. read more

LOVEEEE!!!! Gave this viral spot a visit with my mom and my sister on a Monday at around 3 pm and that line was longggg! It moved pretty quick though so the wait wasn't too bad and the drinks came out fast once we ordered. We got a matcha 1, strawberry matcha, and a matcha cream coconut with guava puree. the coconut and guava one was seriously unreal I'm still thinking about it!!! The guava matcha sounded really good but I wanted something a little bit lighter than oat milk so the coconut water was perfect. I can't wait to come back soon read more

By far the best blueberry matcha I've tried! Their matcha is hand whisked with a generous amount of matcha powder. I can't wait to return & try their other creative drinks like the mango matcha. FAVEEEEE matcha spot these days! so blessed that it's on my way to work i've been to Ayer multiple times now, and it NEVER disappoints. i usually try to arrive @ opening 8am or a little earlier because there WILL be a line - don't be scared off! the staff inside the little storefront is super friendly and they work hard, efficiently, and quickly, so if you have time and there's a line, i think it's 10000% worth it. my favorites: - mango matcha : this place has my absolute favorite mango matcha. the flavor is just chef's kiss!! it's literally made to perfection every time, and it's the perfect balance of quality-grade matcha and mango flavor. it's hard for me to not order this every time oops - blueberry matcha : sooo pleasantly surprised by this one bc i don't typically care for blueberry, but i had to try bc it looked yum! and it IS. it's so unique and the sweetness of the blueberry puree marries so nicely with the umami matcha - matcha two: the BEST standard matcha !! i usually like flavored/fruit matcha, but this one is just an explosion of deliciousness that gets me goin in the morning LOL - i still have to try the matcha three with the sorbet - salt bread: ALLLLWAYS get the salt bread! another reason i only like going during opening is to make sure i can get my hands on one of these bc it just pairs so perfectly with a yum lil bev all in all 20/10 easily! i'm already looking forward to my next visit haha thank you to the ayer team for a great matcha spot! read more

I always come at 8am when they open to TRY and beat the long lines. So at 8am, i'm standing in line to receiving my order, took 25 minutes. Imagine any other time during the day! But it's worth it. Anything here is absolutely perfect and delicious from their iced coffees to their iced Matcha seriously order anything and you'll love it! read more
Definitely an order and go coffee place. There is no seating inside. A line starts outside the building prior to you making your order. Luckily when I went, the lines were not very long, but it seems like it can be busy at peak hours. Parking in the area is also limited. There were a few items on the menu that I wanted to try but my friend recommended the Matcha 2 - which had salted matcha vanilla cream. Loved it! You can taste the rich and deep flavor of the matcha latte and also not too sweet. read more

TLDR: longest lines and $$$ but it's still the best matcha in oc Their triple matcha is the best matcha in OC and if that's too heavy, get the matcha one with a scoop of sorbet. They are in the shittiest mall, the lines can get astronomical, and it costs a kidney to come here regularly, but it's (unfortunately) worth it. See you next week Ayer.. read more
We went on a Sunday morning and waited in a long line (~30 minutes). I didn't realize this place was in its soft opening phase, new/trending; I just picked it because it was the closest spot (there doesn't seem to be many in the Tustin/North Irvine area) that had matcha. Space is really small. Only standing room inside to order. No tables outside, we sat on the ground. Parking in the plaza fills up. Ordered the Matcha One, Matcha Two, and the iced Coconut Coffee. Unfortunately, the matcha was not good. It didn't have the earthy taste and I don't like oat milk in my matcha because it's too sweet. The coffee seemed solid. Strong taste. As for the salt bread... apparently it's super popular since everyone in line was buying a ton of it. I decided to try it, and I didn't like it. It tasted bland and wasn't fluffy at all, more like a dry dinner roll. Maybe I just don't know what I'm supposed to appreciate about it. No idea why I got duped into buying two, but at least my mom liked it. read more

This one has been on my list for a while and every time I drive into the parking lot and if the line is super long, I just leave and try again another time. Well today was the day! No line and got a chance to try the Matcha 2 and the banana matcha with house made banana pudding. All I can say is... the line is worth it. Very good matcha! When we left, the line got really long so we beat the crowd. Will I stand in line the future? Probably not because I don't like waiting, but if I drive by and the line seems descent, I will stop for sure. Parking lot is small and shares with many restaurants. I can see it being congested during peak hours. Please come and create your own adventure. read more

Best matcha spot in OC hands downnnnn. I've tried at least 5 drinks from here and they are all soooo good. My fav is the matcha 2, but their mango and banana matcha is also a MUST!!! Line gets long but once you get inside the service is super fast & the staff is all so kind. I also like buying the matcha tins to make at home! UPDATE: I tried their salt bread at their grand opening and everyday I've gone after, they've been sold out. Finally came today at 9am and it was sold out LMAO I'm sadddd I wish they had more to get throughout the day! read more
Went for the grand opening a while ago and then recently went because I was near the area! The line is long but it's worth it for their delicious drinks. This was my first visit at Ayer and I had a really pleasant experience! I got the Strawberry Matcha Latte, per the barista's recommendation, and it definitely didn't disappoint! The strawberry puree inside the drink really compliments the matcha. Love the matcha used in this as well! The matcha is very earthy and has a smooth taste; not powdery. A big plus is that the drink comes with oat milk by default (my fav)!! Staff was very welcoming and enthusiastic to assist me as it was my first time -- happy to say I'll be a returning customer. Thank you to the staff for being so helpful and kind :) Just wish it was more local to me but I'd definitely return when I'm in the area. read more
I've been wanting to try this cute cafe after seeing it trend on social media! I got the matcha two, which was pretty strong and creamy, though I think their vanilla cream and syrup overpowered the matcha flavor. I also felt the same way about the hojicha, it could have had a stronger tea flavor and less vanilla. I also got the salt bread, which came in a pretty big size and had a nice flaky salt on top. I wish they baked them more frequently, as I had to warm mine up in the microwave and the bottom could have been crispier. Since they are pretty new, the ordering system is a little complicated. The wait on weekends is always super long, so I would definitely wait for the hype to die down a bit before visiting. read more
This is the place for real matcha lovers or anyone getting into matcha! The matcha two was the perfect double matcha latte -- slightly nutty, perfectly earthy, and not too sweet. It's all hand whisked as well, which increases my respect for the team here. This place is a to-go type of cafe. There's one little bench for waiting, but you can't do work or hang out. The service is really friendly and the girl who helped us out was very sweet. I would recommend anyone who visits to be patient! Lines can get long but that's because you're getting a high quality matcha. read more
I'm so sorry but this was such a disappointment :( Drove 40 min to try Ayer since we are big matcha and coffee fans & I was so disappointed! I thought I was going to love it. I ordered a blueberry coffee and it was undrinkable. It was overly sweet but also bitter. I think they use Vietnamese coffee but the blend of the default oat milk and blueberry syrup just didn't work for me at all. I couldn't even drink it :( I also tried the mango matcha & didn't care for it either. I think their drinks are very sweet especially with the added oat milk. I wish their default wasn't oat milk! The cashiers are very nice and friendly there & the line moves quickly. read more

Their pumpkin pie matcha definitely tasted like a pumpkin pie matcha lol. It was really good and a good matcha flavor! The service was kind, there is line outside but they move super quick! The place is quite small which is why u would expect the line formed outside. read more

The line looks long but honestly was only 15-20 minutes when the line was 2.5 stores away from the cafe. Plenty of parking but it's pretty active with people coming and going. Staff was very nice and it's takeout only. No indoor or outdoor seating. Matcha Three: pretty strong and tasty. Smooth and more legit than other places like Vivot where they make you sign a waiver. Coconut Pandan Green Rice: an interesting slushie with rice bits. Definitely tastes like Vietnamese chè. Saigon Black and Spanish Phin: my brother and roommate really enjoyed this. Definitely would come back to try their other flavors. read more
Totally worth getting in line! It moves fairly quickly. It's a grab and go type of spot as the shop is very small. You order, pay, and then wait for your drink outside. I got the mango matcha and was blown away! You'll love it if you like the sweet Asian mangos! Their drinks also come with oat milk as default. This is a cute little coffee shop! It is brand new and clean. The owners are so sweet and at the business managing the cafe. The baristas were all sweet and friendly. I wanted to get their matcha but when I asked to see if the matcha is organic or not, I didn't get a straight answer so I settled for a bluebbery coffee (half sweet) instead and it was delicious!!!! When I am in the area, I will for sure stop by to try their other coffee options! read more

A friend of mine recommended this place, recently opened but not so hush. There was a line with a queue of 7-8 people in the morning. They do not have a large space inside for people to wait so we end up forming a line outside. The cashier was friendly and welcoming to all customers. They have a large menu with so many styles -- if you like a coffee flavor, they can pretty much make that in a matcha version. I've been searching far and wide for the best banana matcha lattes, this is so far the best. When you finally step inside, you can see they have 2-3 staff whisking matcha. Their arms are getting a serious workout because I saw 10 + bowls already pre-whisked. The matcha tasted amazing and I was able to get a rich and creamy banana flavor with each sip. They added a nice crunch with crushed banana chips. My wife ordered the pumpkin pie coffee to be festive for fall. It was delicious and reminded us of a nice fall day. Overall, we really enjoyed the 2 drinks we selected. I would come back as often as I can if I lived in the area. The service was quick since they are staffed well to knock out so many drinks! read more

The hype here is absolutely worth it! I have been here four times now, and I think the worst time to go is between 10AM and noon on the weekends. Any time earlier than that on the weekends or any weekday will have a much shorter line. Regardless, the line moves relatively fast, and the ordering process is relatively efficient, so I wouldn't let the line deter you too much from a delicious cup of matcha. I have ordered the Matcha 2, and the salted matcha cream top is the cherry on top of an already rich and deeply flavorful matcha latte. Getting it half sweet is perfect, and you can taste the umami and slight bitterness of the matcha. I have also tried the Salted Saigon, which is also indulgently delicious. The salted vanilla cream top cuts the strong Vietnamese coffee and balances it out perfectly. You order at a counter, then repeat your order to the cashier on the right side of the counter, who will ring you up. You also order the salt bread with the cashier. The salt breads sell out early for good reason! The buttery, salty crust that forms on the bottom of the bread roll is heavenly (I would recommend taking it home and heating it up in a toaster oven for maximal crunch). No seating inside, so be sure to find another place to enjoy your latte and bread! read more
