I had such a great experience with this AC shop. The first shop I went to turned me away twice, so I was really grateful when I called here and was told I could come right over. Thankfully, they weren't too far away. When I arrived, the gentleman immediately welcomed me, pulled my van into the shop, and started diagnosing the issue. The customer service I received was exceptional, and I truly appreciate how helpful and accommodating they were. I'm looking forward to having them service my vehicle and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for honest and great customer service. I also want to add that while my van was being diagnosed, the gentleman noticed my coolant was low and took the time to add more coolant for me. I truly appreciate that extra step. It showed me that they genuinely care about their customers and are willing to help beyond just the service they're providing. Small acts like that really stand out and mean a lot. Thank you for your kindness and for going above and beyond. I wanted to come back and update my review now that everything has been completed. I picked up my van, and the AC is working great! The repair was completed, and I'm very happy with the results. The final price was reasonable for the amount of labor involved, and I appreciate the work that was done. Overall, I'm satisfied with the service and look forward to bringing my van here again for future repairs and maintenance. Thank you, Auto Papa, for getting my AC back up and running!

    Cracked cylinder head.

I first met one of the owners of Papa Auto, Aidos, when purchasing a Honda CRV from his wife on Facebook Marketplace. During our conversation, she mentioned that Aidos owned a mechanic shop. This peaked my interest because I had a 2012 Toyota Sienna sitting at another shop for a year, waiting to get diagnosed and repaired for trouble codes 300, 301, and 303. I suspected a head gasket leak between cylinders one and three. After researching, I realized the motor would have to be removed to properly fix it. This is a massive job that requires a lift and about 20 hours of labor. I called four or five other shops, and no one was willing to touch it. Understandable, given the scope of the work involved. When I met Aidos, I asked if his shop could handle a head gasket replacement on a 2012 Sienna. He confidently said yes. I was a little skeptical because he and his wife looked very young, and every other shop had avoided this job like the plague, but he told me to bring it in anytime. I had it towed to Auto Papa the following Monday. At the shop, I met their mechanic, Adil, who also looked young. I began to wonder if they were in over their heads. But we sat down and reviewed labor, parts, and resurfacing costs. The quote was very close to what I expected, maybe a little cheaper. Adil clarified that it was a quote, and they'd know for sure once the motor was out. By Friday, Adil called me with additional issues: both lower control arms were worn and needed to be replaced, which I was actually aware of because the van would clunk after applying the brake and coming to a complete stop, and one CV axle needed to be replaced. I went to the shop to inspect Adil's findings, saw the grease splatter from the torn CV boot, and approved all the repairs. I also requested the engine mounts be replaced since the engine clunked during hard acceleration. Adil said it would be easy with the engine out and only charged me for the mounts. About a week later, I stopped by the shop for an update. Adil said he had replaced the head gasket and reinstalled the motor, but the codes were still there. He explained he would have to remove the engine again and assured me there would be no additional charges for labor. During the second removal, he discovered a cracked cylinder head and a broken valve spring. Amin, the second owner of the shop, stepped in to procure a replacement cylinder head locally, which saved time and shipping costs. I only paid for the new cylinder head itself and they did not charge me any additional labor to fix the issue. After a little less than a week later, my van was done. Overall, it took about a month to get my van back, but the shop kept me informed the entire time, physically showed me all the issues, took the time to explain what was going on and fixed any errors at no additional labor costs. Their quotes were accurate and very reasonable. In my experience, Auto Papa is honest, trustworthy, reasonably priced and truly cares about their work. I would highly recommend them for any auto repair. They also do bodywork, which I plan to use very soon for my daughter's 2009 RX350.

If the other shops won't do the project, they'll will do it, but you do have to pay the price. Backstory Needed the OEM ducktail bolted on for my BRZ. The part is for GR86 and Toyota dealership denied project even though I wanted to buy part from them, they said to go through Subaru dealership for installation. Even though it's 95% same car, if you know cars then you know what I'm talking about. Got the reply from the shop very quick on yelp and they told me to bring it in to the shop to see detailed pricing for the project. Took my car for quote around 10am and they examined my car and the part. They felt uncomfortable drilling my car and showed concern of possibly damaging my reverse camera. I have done the research beforehand and I knew 100% that it will not reach the camera or wires, explained it's fine but they weren't convinced. They said they'll do the job for $500 considering they have to take a risky job of drilling. My part is imported from Japan and is $530. I said ok when can you guys do it? and they said they can do it today. I asked when do I come to pick it up and told me 4pm. Doesn't work for me, I asked if I schedule an appointment and dropped off the car, when will it be done? Told me to drop off in the morning and it'll be done 4pm. I said, will call you guys back when I find the day I can drop it off. I never called them back. Instead, went to Home Depot, bought the tools I exactly needed less than $100 spent and installed it myself in 1hr and 15min (you don't need a fancy tool for this, $40 Ryobi drill does the job even though I prefer Makita) . I'm not a mechanic, I'm mechanically inclined also, the part comes with idiot proof template showing where to exactly drill and what size drill to use. I just wanted some professional to do it to save me time for installing and buying the tools. I would've taken it if they quoted max $300, $200/hr labor which is like dealerships labor and honestly dealerships prices are HIGH. Summary They will do the project but I personally felt that $500 did not justify the job. Also got a strong impression that they do not specialize in Subarus or at least GR86 or BRZ. Hence why 3 star review.

This review is long overdue, but absolutely deserved…read more Lee has been incredibly good to me from the start -- treating me with genuine aloha and real pride in the work he does. The job I needed wasn't collision-related; it was a full aesthetic upgrade. I wanted to completely change the color of my Tacoma, and after Yelp showed me a bunch of options, I decided to visit Lee in person to see what he was about. I'm not much of a car guy, so this whole process was new to me. Because it was an expensive project, I came in cautious and ready to keep my guard up. But after meeting him, that guard dropped fast. Lee is passionate, ambitious, and fully committed to doing things the right way. He walked me through everything with honesty and integrity -- never once taking advantage of the fact that I didn't know much about cars. Instead, he supported me, educated me, and made sure I felt confident every step of the way. After agreeing to his estimate, I handed over my keys the following week, and he went to work. About a month later, I saw my truck in a completely new light -- literally. It wasn't charcoal grey anymore; it was Space White, a modern cool‑tone metallic white originally introduced by Ford in 2020. It's a unique two‑tone shade that looks grey in the shade and bright white in the sun. I found it by accident while searching for a white that wasn't "company truck white," and Lee was just as excited about the choice as I was. From start to finish, he delivered amazing work. This was the best investment I've ever made for my 2015 Tacoma (still under 50k miles!), and I'm genuinely grateful I trusted him with it. If you're looking for someone who cares, communicates, and takes pride in their craft, Lee is the one.

I was off island until that evening. They were closed 7 June and I picked it up 8 June. The repainted color I am satisfied with but the detail work was mediocre at best. There is a ton of overspray on the rubber around the windows and rear view mirrors. Additionally, there are already a few chips in the paint in a few spots which will be a problem in the near future. This has been months of frustration. I am now just over it and will not return to this establishment again for paint work. I will say that the manager was apologetic about the delays due to staffing issues but honestly due to the way this was handled initially, I should have been a top priority and more detail and attention should have been given to my vehicle. In the manager's defense, he did take matters into his hands and conducted a majority of the work himself and I am appreciative of that. I have spent the last 2 hours attempting to clean up the overspray and it will take me several more to get it all removed. Overall , I wish this would have been handled better but you live and you learn. Again, I am satisfied with the color but not the delays in service nor the level of attention to detail. I paid a pretty penny for my vehicle and the paint job was not cheap. The expectations were high but not met. This is my honest assessment and I have no hard feelings towards the establishment nor the folks I have dealt with during this process. Mahalo!

They replaced the large insignia, but they said that I would have to put back the small letters myself. Also while cleaning the car for an inspection, in addition to finding the small letters for the trunk door, I found water in my wheel well for the spare tire in the trunk. I told them that they forgot to reattach the other end of a plastic tube that ran rain water in the trunk door top right corner. They said that they don't detach that. But they had detached the rubber foam seal on trunk door when they painted the car. The seal is in the same area of the door as the plastic tube. If I had known ahead of time about the small letters, I might not have gotten the work done there. Usually shops will replace whatever they took off the car, and not leave everything inside the car for the owner to put back. To be fair, they did put back some of the stuff I found in the car after I picked up the car- like the car insignia, the rubber foam seal on the trunk door.

Over several months, we were repeatedly told that work was in progress, parts were on order, or that the vehicle was nearing completion. It's March 31, 2026 and it is still not finished. However, during multiple in-person visits, there has been little to no visible progress. Communication has been inconsistent, and there were times we arrived during business hours and no one was available. We understand that delays can happen, but the lack of transparency and follow-through has been extremely frustrating and completely unacceptable. We also observed signage indicating BBB accreditation; however, the BBB website currently lists this business as not accredited, which was confusing and concerning. At this point, we have had to escalate the matter in order to seek resolution. We hope this can still be resolved professionally, but based on our experience, we would strongly advise others to proceed with caution as there are many red flags despite the positive reviews.

They also fixed some other things in the front, since it was pushed back. When I inquired about the fix for the anti-freeze the guy had no idea what I was talking about. We had a new bottle of anti-freeze in the trunk and they put it in the car for us. It didn't leak out, which was a good sign. We drove it to Costco a block down and saw that all the anti-freeze was leaking out. We called the guy and dropped the car off again. He called the next day and said it would cost $800 to fix the anti-freeze leak. A day later he called and said it would be another $400 to fix the inverter. All in all, the hubby paid around $6000 for something they quoted as $3700. That plus the fact that they had our car for over three weeks. When we finally picked up the car they did give us a complimentary car wash, which we appreciated. We've had the car back for four days now and thankfully it's running smoothly.

Insurance told me to get a quote at another auto body shop for the repairs (rear bumper detached, wiring for reverse sensors detached, rear leg quarter panel above the tire dented and scratched). That shop quoted me about $8K for all the repairs! FYI, I have a 2013 elantra. Insurance deemed my vehicle to be a "total loss" because the amount of the repairs was about the same cost of the vehicle's value. So my choices were to give up my vehicle which still worked perfectly fine despite missing a rear bumper, and then recruited a check for the vehicle's value...or keep the vehicle and receive a smaller check and find an autobody shop that could fix the damages for cheaper than the initial quote by the first autobody shop. A friend recommended Mapunapuna Auto Body and I also checked out their limited reviews on yelp, yes I trust my fellow yelp users! Then I decided to check em out! Ben (the owner) quoted me right under $2 grand, which was a fourth of the initial auto body shop's estimate. I couldn't believe it and thought it was too good to be true.
