No one even bothered to look at me. I tried to approach nicely saying excuse me, and all of them don't talk back. They just gesture their hands at me to go away. Like I am seriously shocked... Horrible service. To note, I did go to the office first because I read the sign. But no one was there and I waited with no one coming in to help me. So that is when I tried to ask the employees. It's incomplete work. Based on the work alone I wouldn't recommend these guys to anyone they didn't put adhesive on one of the plastics on the truck bed. It's missing vinyl film shields on one side, but they left them on the other side so I don't know what happened there. They didn't color match evidence is in the picture there's clearly a line of the two different colors and I can't believe they didn't wash the truck after they finished painting it. The truck also has a weird odor inside. I'm not sure why. When I asked how much it would be to paint the roof it was first $700 then when I agreed to the 3 panels I told him I'd pay for the top on my own dime the price went up over double $1500 for 1 panel. SMH never again. So for 3 panels one being the truck bed it was $1900 then to paint 1 more panel the roof was an extra $1500 just doesn't add up read more

I first met one of the owners of Papa Auto, Aidos, when purchasing a Honda CRV from his wife on Facebook Marketplace. During our conversation, she mentioned that Aidos owned a mechanic shop. This peaked my interest because I had a 2012 Toyota Sienna sitting at another shop for a year, waiting to get diagnosed and repaired for trouble codes 300, 301, and 303. I suspected a head gasket leak between cylinders one and three. After researching, I realized the motor would have to be removed to properly fix it. This is a massive job that requires a lift and about 20 hours of labor. I called four or five other shops, and no one was willing to touch it. Understandable, given the scope of the work involved. When I met Aidos, I asked if his shop could handle a head gasket replacement on a 2012 Sienna. He confidently said yes. I was a little skeptical because he and his wife looked very young, and every other shop had avoided this job like the plague, but he told me to bring it in anytime. I had it towed to Auto Papa the following Monday. At the shop, I met their mechanic, Adil, who also looked young. I began to wonder if they were in over their heads. But we sat down and reviewed labor, parts, and resurfacing costs. The quote was very close to what I expected, maybe a little cheaper. Adil clarified that it was a quote, and they'd know for sure once the motor was out. By Friday, Adil called me with additional issues: both lower control arms were worn and needed to be replaced, which I was actually aware of because the van would clunk after applying the brake and coming to a complete stop, and one CV axle needed to be replaced. I went to the shop to inspect Adil's findings, saw the grease splatter from the torn CV boot, and approved all the repairs. I also requested the engine mounts be replaced since the engine clunked during hard acceleration. Adil said it would be easy with the engine out and only charged me for the mounts. About a week later, I stopped by the shop for an update. Adil said he had replaced the head gasket and reinstalled the motor, but the codes were still there. He explained he would have to remove the engine again and assured me there would be no additional charges for labor. During the second removal, he discovered a cracked cylinder head and a broken valve spring. Amin, the second owner of the shop, stepped in to procure a replacement cylinder head locally, which saved time and shipping costs. I only paid for the new cylinder head itself and they did not charge me any additional labor to fix the issue. After a little less than a week later, my van was done. Overall, it took about a month to get my van back, but the shop kept me informed the entire time, physically showed me all the issues, took the time to explain what was going on and fixed any errors at no additional labor costs. Their quotes were accurate and very reasonable. In my experience, Auto Papa is honest, trustworthy, reasonably priced and truly cares about their work. Amin took care of me by asking me questions, testing out my car, and explaining possibilities of what could be causing the issue. The challenge is that it is intermittent and it's difficult to reproduce. He did his best to try and replicate it, but wasn't able to. Although I took some of his time to look at my car, he didn't charge me anything as diagnostics didn't need to be run due to no engine light appearing. If the other shops won't do the project, they'll will do it, but you do have to pay the price. Backstory Needed the OEM ducktail bolted on for my BRZ. The part is for GR86 and Toyota dealership denied project even though I wanted to buy part from them, they said to go through Subaru dealership for installation. Even though it's 95% same car, if you know cars then you know what I'm talking about. Got the reply from the shop very quick on yelp and they told me to bring it in to the shop to see detailed pricing for the project. Took my car for quote around 10am and they examined my car and the part. They felt uncomfortable drilling my car and showed concern of possibly damaging my reverse camera. I have done the research beforehand and I knew 100% that it will not reach the camera or wires, explained it's fine but they weren't convinced. They said they'll do the job for $500 considering they have to take a risky job of drilling. My part is imported from Japan and is $530. I said ok when can you guys do it? and they said they can do it today. I asked when do I come to pick it up and told me 4pm. Doesn't work for me, I asked if I schedule an appointment and dropped off the car, when will it be done? Told me to drop off in the morning and it'll be done 4pm. I said, will call you guys back when I find the day I can drop it off. I never called them back. Instead, went to Home Depot, bought the tools I exactly needed less than $100 spent and installed it myself in 1hr and 15min (you don't need a fancy tool for this, $40 Ryobi drill does the job even though I prefer Makita) . I'm not a mechanic, I'm mechanically inclined also, the part comes with idiot proof template showing where to exactly drill and what size drill to use. I just wanted some professional to do it to save me time for installing and buying the tools. I would've taken it if they quoted max $300, $200/hr labor which is like dealerships labor and honestly dealerships prices are HIGH. Summary They will do the project but I personally felt that $500 did not justify the job. Also got a strong impression that they do not specialize in Subarus or at least GR86 or BRZ. Avoid this shop. Bait-and-switch pricing and outrageous labor charges. I was given a written estimate of $539.26, which included 2.0 hours of labor at $165/hr for front and rear brake pads. After I dropped my truck off, they increased the labor to 3.5 hours with no clear explanation and no new parts added, bringing the total to $786.76. I've uploaded both invoices so people can see exactly how the labor hours magically changed after they already had my vehicle. Rust was used as the excuse -- which is completely unacceptable in Hawaii, where corrosion is normal and expected. Any honest shop would either include that in the original estimate or call for approval before adding charges. This place did neither. Extremely poor transparency, inflated labor, and shady business practices. There are far better and more honest shops on Oahu. Stay away. read more

Honda said diagnostics would start at $210, so I turned to Yelp to find other shops. Four shops responded: Two couldn't provide the services. One quoted $165 for a diagnosis. AutoPapa offered free diagnostic testing. We live in Hawaii, where even a breath of air costs money, so of course I went with "free." But honestly, after my experience, I would have gladly paid Amin whatever he charged. Setting up an appointment was quick -- same-day was offered, but I scheduled Saturday morning, which they accommodated. Won't come again, my drain tube of my car sunroof stucked，leaking and water went inside my car. i bring my car over, begin said charging 150 for diagnosis, I'm fine with that. After they opened up my car, then said Because of the amount of disassembly required to reach the drain lines and trace the leak properly, the diagnostic process will take about 4.5 hours.( will charge 150$ per hour for diagnostics) not including the next steps Or estimate. I had a bunch of Repairs and every time Auto Papa was one of the first to the Rescue. When we discuss to come to fix my Window, they were willing to combine another request for Repair together. I was able to do a same day repair for all my work (took about 3 hours.) When the work needed change, they brought it up to me and able to work out a price difference, then another part need to change and they still were able to get the Part ASAP.
