Colleague and I had been anticipating Author's opening and wow, were we impressed! We planned to grab an appetizer before going out but ended up ordering the special (handmade salmon ravioli, topped with shrimp in a lemon beurre blanc sauce) and the empanadas. The ravioli was fantastic! Pasta was light and fresh, salmon was cooked beautifully, and was reasonably priced at $22. I ordered the appetizer empanadas and it was more than enough for a meal. Three large, handmade pockets of heaven. I was disappointed they do not yet have a full liquor license, however, they did offer some great wines and beers. Was able to get to Author's during a visit back to town and we had a great time, very comfortable bar, great food - great to see Josh bringing his game to dine dining in Appleton! Our party of six had a variety of appetizers for the table, all of them great. We split the chopped salad, which they did in the kitchen, also delicious, and the two raviolis were "delightfully yummy" as said my wife. Well done! read more

What a pleasant and quality dinning experience we had at Authors Kitchen when recently traveling through Appleton. WI. We received very friendly and attentive service from our waiter Erik. We were served roasted Brussel sprouts, Halibut, seared salmon, bread pudding, and banana split buckwheat crepes. The meal was amazing. The scallops were amazing. The service and cocktails were amazing as well. Britney, our server was very understanding and patient. I took my elderly mother out for her birthday dinner, she is very hard of hearing. She also changed up her dinner a bit. If I were to make any suggestions I would offer a vegetable as a replacement for the potato or pasta. I would also have ground pepper and salt on the tables as opposed to table salt and pepper. I do highly recommend this place for an impressive dinner whether it's date night or business. The dishes are as pictured and taste as delicious as they look. read more

Wow. Great food and great service. Sat at the bar and bartender (J.P.) was great. Had the pasta which was amazing. (By the glass) Wine selection was decent. By the bottle better. I'm sure they'll expand in the future. Only beer on tap is Stella. Great selection of bottled beer. Full bar. Fun place. Easy to find; in heart of downtown but a block off the main drag. Just had dinner at AK&B. The gnocchi were amazing, pillowy, perfectly executed. The salmon sashimi is phenomenal!!! The rice had a nice crispy layer. Perfectly balanced and amazing attention to detail. The crisp texture put over the top. The wine prices are set to sell. Great place to buy a bottle. Full disclosure: i worked with matias in the past. He is one of the most talented chefs i have worked with in my 20yrs. My expectations were high coming in and AK&B didn't disappoint. Good food! We tried both the Argentinian empanadas and the specialty caprese empanadas as appetizers and both were delicious. We all ordered different pasta dishes for dinner which all had a distinct flavor profile. I ordered the tagliatelle with roasted brussel sprouts and while it was good, there was no way I could eat more than a few forkfuls of that flavor - it got to be too much and got blah pretty quickly. My husband ordered the version with chicken and alfredo and loved it. The staff was excellent! But I had to drop my rating down based on my meal which turned blah after a few bites and the fact that it was SO HOT in there. We were seated up by the window which maybe doesn't get as much airflow as the rest of the room, but we were all miserable with the heat on a hot July day, and couldn't wait to get outside. read more

Fantastic!!! You've got to try this great new restaurant. The decor is primarily focused on the wood interior and has original paintings by Appleton native Rachel Cisler. Bar and wait staff were super professional and personable,as well as menu-savvy. But I digress....now for the food. Wowie. We had Short Ribs Benedict and Biscuits and Gravy. Both were skillful riffs on the popular brunch items. The biscuits had a wonderful baking powder flavor and the gravy was made with Chorizo with a vibrant carrot-flavored gravy. I'm a beefaholic so I thought the Benedict was heaven on a platter. Most Benedict dishes I've had in this area require a knife to cut the muffin. Not so here. The muffin was fork tender. This chef has some mad skills. Shirt ribs had endless flavor and there was a layer of very good gravy to complement the Hollandaise. You've got to try it. Tried this restaurant out tonight. The food and service were amazing! The prices are also very reasonable. The ravioli and gnocchi were so fresh and delicious! We moved here from Denver where brunch is very popular. Feeling a little let down by the lack of brunch in Appleton Authors Sunday brunch menu had us very hopeful that we might find just what we were missing. My husband and I were greeted and seated immediately. Our waitress Anastasia was friendly and checked on us frequently. Our food came out quickly and everything was absolutely amazing. Better than some of our previous favorites in Denver. Also, excellent mimosas but feel free to add a carafe option to your menu save your servers a couple trips. I hope that they eventually offer more days for brunch service and we will definitely be back for dinner. read more

My wife and I tried this new restaurant tonight and we were wonderfully surprised at the atmosphere, the great food and service from our very knowledgeable server Anastasia. We had the meat and cheese board for an appetizer that was the perfect amount of delicious cheeses and meats. Anastasia recommended the special for the evening of mushroom ravioli with braised beef ribs in a cream sauce that was delicious. My wife likes seafood and had perfectly cooked scallops that were heavenly. Anastasia also recommend the chef's evening special desert a berry cobbler with vanilla gelato that perfectly finished the meal. We now have a new favorite fine dining restaurant in Appleton. Went to Author's with a group. Great atmosphere and setting for a group. Waitress was very helpful and friendly. Chefs prepared a great meal. Appetizers were delicious and entrees were amazing (braised short ribs with cauliflower, salmon with sweet potatoes). Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

I've had much better food and much better service. The service seemed uneven. I had to ask for a wine list and then had to stop someone to have them take our drink order. I ordered the halibut scampi. I'm not sure what it was supposed to be, but it was not what I expected based on the description provided by our waiter. It looked like it was prepared the same way as my son's salmon. The potatoes underneath the halibut were actually a bit cool to barely warm. We ordered the roasted Brussel sprouts and the salmon sushi for appetizers. The Brussel sprouts were also not very warm and, frankly not all that tasty. The salmon sushi was just okay. For dessert, we ordered the bread pudding. It, too, was barely warm and had an off taste, as if it had spent a long time in the freezer. I'm really surprised by all the great reviews. I was really expecting great things, but it was not our experience. Overall, we were very disappointed. We won't return. read more
