Bazil's is a great pub in Appleton downtown! They have a great pub vibe with vintage decor and swivel bar chairs. Bazil's has a rotating selection of beers on tap. My favorite is Spotted Cow from New Glarus Brewing. I ordered a flight of beers, which is four 4 oz pours for $10. They do have a food menu as well. I glanced on the wall behind me and saw The Beer Club. Apparently if you drink all 100 beer beer brands they serve, then your name is placarded on The Beer Club wall. Every time I travel back to WI, I try to stop in at Bazil's at least once to order their steak sandwich. They make it to order: Medium rare with grilled onions. Best beer menu in town. This is a downtown Appleton tavern and has a lot of history. I have never eaten any food here. But they were open on Christmas Eve and their Tom and Jerry's were on point. If there is an event downtown you won't find any place to sit. But they have a nice outdoor seating area. There is a long bar and only a few side tables inside. I plan to return! read more

If you're a craft beer lover, check this place out! They have a big selection of craft beers. Most of them are cans and bottles, but they do have an okay number of taps....maybe a dozen or so. Regardless the taps do rotate, and it's always possible to find something you'll like. The atmosphere is pretty laid back. It's dark, not too loud, and fairly relaxed. They do have a small outdoor patio, but can fill up pretty fast. They serve food here too. I've never ate here but I heard it's really good for bar food. I have been eating out every night for over a week now and my favorite place here in Appleton so far is Bazil's for sure! I had the Brat n Burger with fried onion lettuce and tomato and it was out of this world! The fries were also amazing! The cheese curds were not the best I ever had but still darn good!!! The marinara sauce is thick chunky and ice cold and just perfect to dip anything in, frankly I could have eaten it with a spoon! The beer selection is never ending and impressive to say the least!! The service was pretty good but I think as it got busier we became less of a priority it did not help that we were out of towners and we made the mistake of telling them this but the beer selection and amazing food out weighs any of the service shortfalls for sure! I'm originally from the area, and came up with a large group of colleagues for a conference, and when they asked me to show them a good time on the Avenue. When we came in, the bartender asked to see all of our ID's. I understand that's par for the course, but none of us were obviously underage. The bartender's attitude is really what turned me and my colleagues off. She was short, terse, and when she would be a little more "friendly", she ended up making a racist comment. Further, she was really unhelpful when I asked about the Jutebox, and gave me a pissy attitude when I didn't say "please" when she asked if I wanted a refill on my drink. Honestly, the attitude is one thing, but the racist comment was another, and the real reason behind the 1 star. I will not be coming back. read more

Great bar food. I would walk here on my lunch and pick up a to go order. The services can be little slow if you get there during a lunch rush so be aware for your time. They have great burgers and sandwiches, but my favorite is their grilled ham and cheese, made with thick cut bacon. This has always been a favorite bar of mine for drinks and food. Now that they have remodeled and upgraded their kitchen, it is even better. They have some of the best burgers in town, the most comfortable bar stools, great beer selection and some of the friendliest staff. The only drawback is parking on College Avenue, but that isn't their fault. I would highly recommend stopping here. read more

We stopped in for a quick dinner tonight based on a recommendation from our hotel concierge at the CopperLeaf Hotel. We tried cheese curds for the first time and found them to be similar to mozarrella cheese sticks. We also had the fried haddock filets for our entree and they were certainly acceptable! All in all, the value for the meal was definitely worth it. $10 total bill for the fried haddock dinner and 1/2 of the cheese curd appetizer! Nice wait staff, too. read more
