I'm in town for one night staying at the Hilton down the street (the dreadful hotel experience is the subject of different review). I ordered a pizza using the online app and walked over to pick it up. I assumed I would have a bit of a wait and went to the bar to order a drink. Bartender checked on the status of the pizza for me ("halfway through" he said) and I ordered a beer. Everyone was super nice and even better--the pizza was fabulous. This is the security person at the door checking I.D... not sure if this is an employee or someone they just hired for the night... but when someone would walk in she would get Up and Ask people for their i.d and then go back and sit and eat her food... Update: July 10, 2010 -- very happy to report that a smoking ban has been implemented in Appleton. No more smoking in the bars. Sorry smokers, but I like it! Prior to, this was the smokiest, busiest, and fun-filled bar on College Avenue! The first time I went to this bar, it was funny because it featured a band from LA (dude! I'm from LA, too!). The place is ultra-ridiculously smoky, in fact, the bartender was very pregnant and I thought how awfully bad and unhealthy not just for me, but the soon-to-be mama and newborn child. Yikes! The drinks were well priced, and I had fun. The people very nice and talkative, without pretense. I didn't try the food, but they do have a decent bar-type menu and from what I saw...looked good. No smoke inside now, so this bar is just fun and busy! Yay! read more

Visiting Appleton overnight before the Packers game and the hotel receptionist recommended this place. Bartender was prompt and very good! Moved to a table and struggled to get service. Drinks were good, atmosphere was just right with multiple TVs to watch college games. Would come again for the drinks and games...think that I would have been sorely disappointed in the place if I would have been exposed to waitress service first! read more

We came during the parade. We had avoided the place because of a bad review from a friend, but we decided to check it out. It took a while to get the food, but it was worth the wait. Not only was the food amazing, the service was outstanding. Our waitress was so friendly, she was so busy but you couldn't tell. She was always prompt and she always had a smile on her face. She made sure our food tasted good and she made sure our drinks were always full. She took the time to get to know us while telling us about her time in Ireland and her love of the holidays. It was a nice atmosphere. You could tell that everyone loved working together and they all had fun! We are super impressed! read more

Was visiting Green Bay for the Giants Packers game and got to visit this place . well the service was friendly the food was great and the prices were cheap. plus they had a nice party atmosphere going on upstairs. If I ever visit Appleton Again I would come back here. I don't normally write bad reviews but I gotta say I was quite disappointed last Sunday. I also would like to say I've been a bartender/server for 20 years so I'm not just being a dick. We got there and sat ourselves. I saw a few waitresses going from table to table and no one approached us. We sat there for 15 min before i got up and went to the bar. Waited a long time there too but they were busy so i digress. I ordered a bloody, a side car which i later realized i was charged for a whole pint and another beer. Didn't know there was a Bloody Mary bar but I'm a bartender so whatever. It's 11:30 on a Sunday and there was barely anything left in this Bloody Mary bar. You'd think w dozens of packer fans coming to ur bar youd at least have some decent offerings. Go back to my table, super hungry, approach a waitress. "Hi can we order some food?" She says "sorry you guys won't have time if you're getting on the shuttle". We've been there for about 30 min by now. I ask, a pretzel has got to be quick right? Can we please get a pretzel w mustard and cheese. She does. The pretzel was cold and the cheese was a peel the aluminum foil off and nuke in the microwave kind of crap. Come on guys, you're in the cheese capital. Too late to even bother with that. Get on the "shuttle" that's states online has a bathroom so I'm thinking charter bus. Nope! It's a school bus. No bathroom. Feel like we were catfished. Again, sorry for the bad review but I hope this helps the establishment pay a little more attention. read more

Someone really needs to explain to the women behind the bar that when you hand a customer back change, not to slap it on the bar and say "here". The word you are looking for is thanks, same applies when you bring a person his to "to go" order. I get it we all have bad days, but this is what I will remember about your bar no matter how good the food was . What I will take with me is how I was treated at this establishment. we traveled to Appleton right after xmas and were not expecting much out of this city.There are couple of bars filled with younger crowd ,but "the bar" was the only place still to serve food.We came in around 10:30 pm and place was booming.I guess it was because of holidays and upcoming Packers game. pretty decent bar menu-wings.burgers,wraps,nachos etc. really affordable prices.Dozen of gluten free (yeah,they can make those here !!! ) buffalo wings were only 5'99 $. Drinks are really cheap and come in HUGE sizes ! Can somebody explain why in all the bars they play 80' s music ???? only later in the night it went for more modern stuff. read more

I like the wings, but I don't like the policy of not being able to take unfinished food that I paid for. I ordered 12 wings on .30 wing night, not realizing you cannot take it with you. I paid for food that was thrown away. Ridiculous. I also offered to pay "regular" price, and was told I could not do that. Put a sign up stating the no take out policy. read more

Had a large order of carry out traditional wings. You get a "deal" if you order 100 or more. 70 cents per wing. However it really isn't a deal. You only get the wing portion. No dummies. And the are very small. The bonless wings are literally the size if marbles. They also charge extra for ranch and blue cheese. No carrots or celery included . We ordered baskets of fries that contained maybe a bit more than you would expect in a single order. On the plus side the sauces were actually very good. We would order wings from The Bar again if they were a decent size. But they are not so we will not. read more

I have a love hate relationship with this place. Mainly their food. My husband loves their wings so we occasionally go there so he can get some decent wings. Their wings are better then BWW's and they have lots of flavors. The hate relationship is with the rest of the menu. I feel like the menu, while huge, is pretty lack luster and there isn't anything I want to try. Eating out is meant to be a treat and their food is so typical Wisconsin bar food there isn't anything on the menu that I can't get at any other restaurant in town! Was surprised when I got in how nice it was. I ended up going to the upper part of the bar and was shocked. The upstairs is set up like an entire different bar. It's like two bars in one. I got wings and a few drinks. The wings were really good and the drinks were made very well also. As far as the ave goes, one of the nicest bars downtown, especially the upstairs. Found out they run specials on their wings on certain days, cant remember off hand, but definitely something to check out. They also deliver, but not sure of the area they can all deliver to. read more
