Wowza! Amazing food. We finally made it around to trying this place. They are only open brunch hours during weekdays which is a bummer for those of us that work all week long. The rarity time off we snuck over here and could not have been more impressed! Very much a unique place in Appleton but takes you to a big city like NYC or Portland. The vibes, decor, overall environment was welcoming. Food was delicious! We got BYO omelette and Cheese risotto cake with braised beef short ribs. Both were cooked to perfection and flavors aplenty. Not overly salted which many places can be. The perfect portion size that we didn't even need to take anything to go. Honestly impressed. Even more cool is they try to source ingredients locally when they can so it's helping our community. Very excited to have found this place and will be back for more! We did try some of their specialty drinks and will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu whenever we get the chance. We came back for a second visit fairly quickly because we kept thinking about the food! We got some breakfast bowls and added protein to it. Again, this place did not disappoint in the slightest! I visited this mainly breakfast and brunch place and figured they would be open all day since they're a full bar, but it turns out they only open late on wednsdays. They're located in an old building along the main street in downtown. For lunch, they seemed to have a short list of items...and not really catering to a red meat eater like me. I picked the chicken pesto sandwich since I normally eat chicken sandwiches for lunch and opted for the house potatoes. Our waitress was very loopy and loud add seemed overly happy about her job. My colleague thinks she was yelling at us whem she spoke, but I believe that is just how some people talk. My chicken sandwich was good...but the chicken breast seemed like a machine formed patty and it was small. I was expecting something a little fresher, like a whole grilled chicken breast for the price. Instead, this seemed like a pre-made patty from a vendor they just heated up in an oven. The house potatoes were simple and pretty good though. They add cheese and herbs and spices to these to amp them up. I can't really speak for the breakfast or cocktail program, but their music was pretty good. read more

I went to authors for brunch and had some of the best breakfast potatoes and sourdough toast of my life. Everything on the menu looked so good and it was hard to decide. I really don't think you could go wrong with any of it. We landed on some mimosas and build your own omelet. And YUM! Our server was great and knowledgeable and the food came out in a timely manner. It has a cute little bar as well if you just want a drink and some empanadas. Definitely recommend for brunch or dinner!! read more

If you look back over my reviews, there are not a ton of 5-star reviews. On my first, but not last, visit to Author's there was virtually nothing to complain about! We went to one of their limited dinner services. I had called the day before and reserved a table. When we were quickly seated at a table by the entrance, I admit being suspect of how our visit would go. The hostess asked if the table was alright and pointed out a heater by the table. Not only did it keep us warm, it made our table feel cozy. Despite it being very busy, I'd describe the restaurant as being a great place for a special date. Our waiter for the evening brought great energy. His timing was great and his knowledge of the food served was helpful. Without hesitation he suggested the Napolitana (which was phenomenal). He also made the restaurant less pretentious than I had assumed it would be and it definitely wasn't pretentious). We ordered the empanadas and beet salad as appetizers. Great picks and I'd return just to get the empanadas! As previously stated, I had the Napolitana. My dining partner has the quinoa bowl but added chicken to it. No complaints for either. We finished with two desserts suggested by our waiter. Although truly full from our meal, we polished off the tasty treats. Visiting Appleton for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food scene is, and Authors Kitchen + Bar was a standout! We enjoyed it so much that we ended up eating there two mornings in a row. The Café Batido is a must-try--the caramel tastes homemade and adds the perfect touch. I ordered the Cheese Risotto Cake, and it was easily one of my top 3 breakfasts ever! On day two, I had the Huevos Rancheros, which was equally impressive. My friend tried the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and the Braised Short Rib Benny--both were absolutely delicious. The restaurant has a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, and the wait staff were wonderful. I'd return to Appleton just to try some of their dinners. Highly recommend! read more

This is one of our all-time favorite places to eat in Appleton. It continues to be a favorite treat for us when ever they roll out a new dinner service menu. Authors has been the only place in my life that I have ever ordered a salad and loved it so much that I ordered another salad It was the arugula, goat cheese, green apples, candied walnuts and a basalmic vinaigrette. I really miss the vibe their old location had.... and the hours, and the staff. Most of the photos I've uploaded for this restaurant are from their old location and menu and don't exist anymore. Atmosphere: Their current location is long and narrow, its the building where Cena used to be (RIP their food was amazing). About 10 seats at the bar, high top tables and a few low top tables. The chairs have no cushion which makes the high tops even more uncomfortable to sit at. 2 stalls in the bathroom so you may need to wait to go. Service: The servers at this location have always been very short, not personable, and not going to lie, cranky. I had a waitress once raise her voice at me and roll her eyes because I ate a small part of my food and waited 15 minutes to tell her I didn't like it and she said "well why didn't you tell me I could have had it remade or something else made but now you've ate off it." Well....you didn't check in for us for 15 minutes after our food was delivered, and how would I know I wouldn't like it if I didn't taste it? The dish was something I could have made at home, but could have made a lot better...the chicken was so dry. Other interactions with staff have been rushed and limited. Food: I don't really come here anymore because the hours....who wants to eat pasta for lunch in the middle of the week when you have to go back to work? The carb heavy menu doesn't really line up with the time of day. Yes they have salads but their pasta is why I fell in love with this place back when they originally opened. I miss eating their pasta so much. I got to carmellas now if I'm craving handmade pasta dishes. I'd start coming back if they would have a dinner service but it doesn't seem like that is going to happen anytime soon if ever. Or even if they had breakfast/lunch on weekends. I get the work life/balance and wanting to spend time with your family so I respect their decision. I guess their restaurant is now geared towards retired people, people on PTO, people who don't work, tourists/people visiting the area, or people who work down town and can run out for a lunch hour. read more

Went there for dinner tonight to celebrate my husband's birthday and we were treated unbelievably well!!! From the moment we walked in we were greeted incredibly warmly! Unbelievable hospitality from the staff (Jackie and Victoria). The food is amazing, fresh, dimensional and just plain delicious . The atmosphere is so wonderful and always cozy/warm. I love the workers and the people that work there! They are so nice and helpful! When I got there I got a table right away! The hostess greets u and the waitress Jackie came right to the table and got some drinks first and then got our order. The music is so good there! It is always different. I have never had any bad food there! The parking lot is in the back and having parking spots in the ave too. I didn't have to wait so long for my food. I love that they have all kinds of food there. The owner is from Argentina and they have some south American food like empanadas! So good! So I can't wait to go again! read more

Our server was lovely and the building is great (no real changes since I started going to this restaurant location around 2008). The food was...completely mid. My dad ans I shared 3 different flavors of empanada - where I ate one bite and he finished them off. He got a soup & sandwich and I got the lemon ricotta pancake. The only thing I would get again was his curried squash soup (which was over sweetened). I must admit I was surprised; the reviews are so glowing and I found it to be such a letdown. We had a fantastic brunch here recently. The staff were friendly. They have a nice bar area and several tables inside. The short rib benedict was phenomenal. Great flavor and portion size. This is an updated review for my first lunch outing at Author's After dining here for dinner on several occasions, I decided I needed to give their lunch menu a go. Again, I can't rave enough about their food. I decided to try out their special of the day which happened to be the braised short rib on risotto. This meal was stunning and I'm glad I tried it. Also, the drizzle of balsamic on the eggs Benedict added the perfect touch. Per usual, we tried one of each of their daily empanada flavors. These are my favorite appetizers offered at authors. I also tried the curry soup, which was the soup of the day, but it arrived well after I had finished my entrée and unfortunately didn't resemble curry in taste. Do yourself a favor and get reservations to this incredible, family owned, local eatery! We were fortunate enough to snag last minute reservation for one of their rare evening dinner services. Seriously this was the highest quality, best tasting food we have experienced in the Valley. From the Bourbon Old Fashioned to start the night, to the risotto cake and empanada apps, to the melt in your mouth beef short ribs, or the handmade truffle gnocchi, all the way to the warm berry cobbler for dessert, this was a true culinary delight. The food here is seriously on another level. I've gone twice and gotten the croque monsieur each time. Fwiw both of the people I went with ordered something else, and they each thought the croque monsieur was by far the better choice compared to the dish they got. Everyone working there were all smiles and very welcoming. I ordered the: OMELETTE $14, which you then get to choose 3 ingredients and get breakfast potatoes, and also get to choose the toast you want. For my meat I chose ham, for veggies I chose caramelized onions and mushrooms, and my choice of cheese was cheddar with white toast. The breakfast potatoes were seasoned deliciously and very yummy! One of the best breakfast potatoes I've had in a really long time! Just in fyi, extra meat or cheese is a $1 extra, and extra veggie is $0.50. I just had one of the finest experience of my life. This is a real restaurant. The staff is laser focused on their roles. James Beard level quality of food and service. The balance and texture of flavors of my entree, a chicken Florentine was perfect. Sweet and savory Marsala wine. The chef is Argentinian whom lived in Spain, you can taste his experience in the perfectly crafted cuisine. This is a family owned restaurant, husband, wife and cousin work together and dedicate their lives to putting together an amazing atmosphere. Authors is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the Fox Valley... food is always awesome. I also have to say that we have such great service every time we are there, everyone is so nice and welcoming! We usually get their empanadas to start, they have rotating flavors along with a a chicken one that they serve all the time, and no matter what the variety is that day they are always delish! Each empanada comes with a dipping sauce and their chimichurri aioli really adds to them... this sauce would be good on so many things! My my kids usually go for the pancakes and clean their plates! My favorites menu items are the salmon sashimi (seriously so insanely good), chicken Parmesan, huevos rancheros and the tomato soup (to die for). Honestly, their entire menu is great!! Also, the floral mimosa is also a favorite... I love champagne but don't really love OJ, so their take on this drink is ideal for me! read more

First of all, this place was so cute and adorable on the inside. They collab with local artists who have their stands set up inside the restaurant, which I loved since I found some essential oil.
