Another great contender in the current matcha surge! I wanted a drink one day. Phe was closed, and I already had Coche Valley, so I decided to give this place another try. My first visit was in 2023 before I did reviews, so I don't remember a thing about how their matcha was even though they're more known for it. When I looked at the menu above the counter and saw how many lattes and drinks there were (and how many of them you could add matcha to, which is almost all of them) I was like, "Dang, which one do I choose???" For this visit, I got their ube matcha latte with oat milk from my server's recommendation. She highly recommend the strawberry matcha latte as well (and I saw three people get it while I was waiting to order), but I'll get that another time. Most ube-flavored items are overly sweet, especially when I eat them as they are. This ube latte was too but there wasn't so much of it to the point where I wanted to throw it away. In fact, the ratio was perfect! Matcha was also strong and present, and wasn't sweet in addition to the ube puree at the bottom of the drink. I did notice that servers were not whisking their matcha manually - one of them was using a matcha whisker attached to what looked like an electric whisker to whisk my matcha. But this didn't affect my drink in any way (i.e. I didn't taste any clumps in my matcha) so it works! The interior is also pretty simple and clean, and you can see the store logo when you walk in. I really enjoyed the small area that displayed small crocheted stuff you can buy, being someone who crochets as well. I was pretty overwhelmed by the choices they had for their drinks, so this won't be my last time coming here to see how else they can blend their matcha.
An adorable, very of-the-times aesthetic cafe with labubus and sonny angels peeking around the space in Capitol Hill. Orders: Dirty Matcha ($6.75): ended up opting out of having milk in this and it was as you expect a ceremonial grade matcha and espresso would taste, as pure as can be and of course not the sweetest. Lychee Rose ($5.95): this is a black tea with lychee peels and rosebuds, house-made brown sugar. It was listed as a popular drink and we got it half sugar, but the flavors weren't coming through strongly. All in all would come again to try the matcha drinks again! I'm not a matcha girly, much more a coffee one but appreciate it. Perhaps the strawberry matcha next!
Wait, I'm obsessed. If I lived in Seattle, I'd come here all the time to try all of their drinks! So grateful my best friend found this matcha gem. The cafe is so freaking cute omg. I love everything about it--tropical wallpaper, luscious plants, wicker furniture, and just the relaxed vibe. Also loved the local music playing which transported me back to living in Hawaiʻi. There are a few tables inside which are popular for people to work or study at (WiFi available). The workers were also really sweet and made our drinks quickly. The menu is lovely. First off there are hot, iced, or specialty drinks. Depending on your drink of choice, you can choose if you want it with espresso, matcha, or hojicha! How cool is that? Dairy alternatives are also available and ice and sweetness adjustments. As a Japanese gal, I love seeing traditional and fusion flavors I'm used to offered at cafes! I had an Iced Strawberry Shortcake Latte with Soy Milk. You could taste the sweet white chocolate, bits of strawberry, and earthiness of the matcha. My best friend got a Matcha Fog and enjoyed it! I'd get this again and again! Atulea is one of the best matcha spots for quality and affordability in Seattle! The drinks are wonderfully unique, the service is efficient, and there's so much to try. If I lived here, I'd come again and again. The cafe is cute and easy to spot off 12th Ave. in Capitol Hill.
I absolutely adore this cafe. I'm a matcha lover and this place fulfills my love for matcha. There's always something on the menu that caters to my mood. It's very customizable. They have matcha, coffee or hojicha as the base. Lots of fun drinks such as the banana milk latte. I love being experiment and ordering something different from the special menu. The drinks are hand crafted with love and attention. The decor/atmosphere is very chill although the space is not very big. It's nice for getting drinks to go but if I'm not in a hurry, I like to savor my drink here.
This place is awesome. What I loved most was how customizable it is. You can pick between matcha, hojicha, or black tea for your drink and then pick the type of drink you want. I got hojicha because it was the afternoon and I needed low caffeine. I also went with the banana milk latte. Service was quick and efficient. The inside is also very cute. Great decor.
small neighborhood spot that's definitely going to be lived by locals for its location but a bit difficult to access if you're in a vehicle. parking in this area is at a premium but i will say that there's enough 30min load and unload spots that you could do a couple turns around the neighborhood, occupy an available one, order and be back to move on with the rest of your morning or day before parking patrol would ruin it with a ticket. this being my first visit, i went with the caramel thai tea, iced. i asked for reduced sugar be i find that too many beverages nowadays are helping the insulin industry, if you know what i mean. my drink was quick to come to the counter, with the smallest tinge of sweetness which was actually refreshing and had good flavor. i especially liked the fact you can choose from a variety of non dairy milks for no extra charge! the employee waiting on me was friendly and offered to give input if i couldn't arrive at a decision based on all the options. a good place to get something cold on a sunny seattle summer day!
I love love Atulea! Their decoration and ambiance is too cute for this small space. The customer service is very kind and welcoming. They will help guide you if you are not familiar with the menu or ingredients. The matcha is high quality. Their menu is perfect, not too much to overwhelm you.
I've been here a couple of times. The staff has always been friendly and served our drinks efficiently. Although the facility is a bit small, it's clean and well-kept. This time, we ordered cheese teas since they have lower caffeine. I found the hot cheese tea pleasantly warming. However, my friends didn't enjoy it as much--they felt the cheese could have been stirred in rather than sitting on top, to balance the flavor and avoid an overwhelming cheese taste.
The place was so cute and loved that I was able to see the workers make the drinks. Both were delicious, but I liked the Ube Matcha more.
Coming back after a few years and not too sure how I feel. I have become much more of a matcha connoisseur since the last time I wrote a review but it's sad to say this time around was a bit dissapointing. The cafe is still just as beautiful with a lot on the menu to offer. I got the butterfly pea matcha latte. The green matcha color was very vibrant but luckily I love mint because that is all that I taste. The baristas were very standoffish, especially for a popular cafe, and I wouldn't expect a barista to be eating her lunch and have it out on the counter behind the register. The two times I have come here, I have gotten their specially lattes but if I come back again, I will try their regular matcha latte for the true test!
I did a deep dive into all the matcha places to visit in Seattle during my last visit and Atulea kept appearing on my searches over and over. There's clearly a reason why! From the cutest wallpaper and in-person seating options to ceremonial grade matcha to the freshest blueberry mix in, my visit did not disappoint! The combination of blueberry and matcha, mixed with the texture of real blueberries, not just a syrup or juice, added to the appeal of my drink. I'm already wishing I could go back just by writing this post and uploading my pics of the experience!

Atulea is the most creative matcha teahouse/cafe I've ever been. You can basically customize anything on their menu into a matcha drink. I struggled between pineapple matcha, black sesame matcha and ube matcha. A paradise for matcha lovers. I've nearly filled up my stamp card in my first visit, and I'm looking forward to coming back to try more interesting matcha lattes and matcha soft serve. ＊Ube Matcha** The ube flavor really stood out especially in my first few sips, while not overpowering the matcha. It had pretty layers of green and purple. The drink got diluted once the ice melted, so I'd suggest consuming it quickly or getting a hot ube matcha instead. ＊White Mocha Matcha Their white mocha matcha was also life-changing. I am not a fan of hot chocolate, but this one has the perfect sweetness level. Highly recommend getting a hot one -- it had mini marshmallow on top. It tasted festive like a warm hug in winter.
Stopped by for a morning coffee while in the area - very cozy vibes, great for WFH. Loved the brown sugar hojicha oat latte, you can definitely taste both the toasted brown sugar and earthy hojicha. The barista asked for sugar level adjustments, which I wasn't aware of (opted for half sweetness). The ube latte was just alright - the espresso was overpowering and the ube flavor was too light for my liking. I've tried the ube matcha before and definitely prefer that. read more
Atulea was so cute! The space and decorations was amazing! I got the hojicha latte and I really enjoyed it! The flavorful was nutty, sweet and delicious! I finished the drink so fast and wanted to get a second one. Highly recommend trying the hojicha here!! read more

Love coming to Atulea! I've already filled up my stamp card and got my soft serve with boba as my reward. It's a really cute, instagramable cafe. They have small tables for you to enjoy your food or study while enjoying your drink. The matcha is of high quality, even in the soft serve. I love their pineapple matcha latte because you can taste the pineapple and it adds a fruitful flavor to it. I've studied their multiple times and see a lot of people come in and out so it's definitely busy and worth the price. Drinks: super good! I've gotten the pineapple matcha latte Atleast ten times. The ice cream melted fast but they were super nice and said don't worry about the mess. It was also true to the matcha flavor and I love the boba that you can add on. Ambiance: I love studying there and can get a lot done. Bonus, they have a clean bathroom! Service: Everyone there is really nice and always asks if you want an alternative milk or are okay with regular milk. read more
I know they're known for their matcha but I really wanted to try their brown rice drink. I also got it (0% sweet and was very pleased to find that it was the perfect balance for me. Very mild, but the rice flavor definitely came through in a subtle but distinct way...until you mix in the cheese foam that it's in. Don't get me wrong I thought the foam was delicious but it absolutely overpowered all flavors of the drink under it once mixed. I probably should've tried to keep it separate so that I could actually enjoy the brown rice flavor. read more

Cute aesthetics but drinks were pretty average. For a place that specializes in matcha, the matcha here was not impressive. Watered down and lacked taste, the matcha is detracts from the drink whereas every other flavor shines. The ube and butterfly pea flower tea are exceptional. Soft serve here is really good too and the flavors are nice. Steep prices. However it does a fair job of soft serve and boba so props there, just doesn't excel at either. Ube Matcha Float w/ Boba and Butterfly Matcha Swirl - with less ice, half my cup was ice so that was poor. Matcha was super faint, almost non-existent but the ube was strong and powerful. Definitely a richer flavor even though ube is typically mild in taste. Butterfly swirl was minty refreshing and the matcha soft serve actually had a decent matcha flavor, much richer than the drink. Boba was soft and chewy but had absolutely no flavor. Butterfly Matcha - again, the matcha was so light that it was irrelevant. Butterfly tea was much refreshing and cleansing through the minty taste. Otherwise it was a rich butterfly pea flower tea that very few shops offer so knowing that, it's a huge selling point to come and order. read more
Ordered the Ube Matcha and it was not my favorite. The service was super friendly and I even got a punch card, but the drink itself was not very yummy. It wasn't smooth and was grainy, and the matcha flavor wasn't very strong. The store had a super cute vibe but the drink I got sadly was a miss. read more
Small interior with limited seating which I don't mind as I took my drink and walked at the nearby Cal Anderson park! Cute, earthy decor and helpful pics of drinks at the front entrance before you walk in. Employees were cheerful and helpful! My drink was flavorful and the boba was good quality! Came in to the usual, beautifully decorated and tidy space at Atulea to order some drinks! The staff was really helpful in recommending which tea is a better option between matcha and hojicha based on the caffeine strength and flavor, so my partner and i ordered the Ube matcha latte and Matcha Banana Milk latte. Between the two, i liked my partner's ube latte far more because the taste just blended really well together. Their drinks lean heavier on the matcha flavor side so if you don't like strong matcha flavor, id recommend asking for adjustment or order something else. I did have to tick off one star unfortunately because they don't sift or strain their matcha despite they make it from scratch on the spot, therefore you can taste the clumps of matcha in your drinks. I personally am not a fan of this texture and most matcha spots i go to always sift the powder. If they improved on this i would easily bump to 4 stars. read more
Atulea is a tea place that offers matcha, milk teas, cheese teas, coffee, seasonal specials, and even 1/2 gallon jugs of teas for those who are fans. While walking around the neighborhood, we stopped by to grab some drinks to go. I ordered the Lychee Rose, which was black tea scented with lychee peels and rosebuds, sweetened with housemade brown sugar. The drink had a subtle rosewater-like flavor to it, and the milk tea itself was creamy. I liked that you could actually taste the black tea. While the milk tea was okay, I think I would have preferred the matcha or one of their seasonal specials instead. Seen this place on yelp since we landed. Decided to try it out in our last day before we left. Came around 11 wasn't too busy til after we came. We were immediately greeted and helped out. Waited a few minutes for our drinks. As soon as you walk in has a nice plant and woody aesthetic around the coffee shop. My girlfriend enjoyed it and the wall papers. Our drinks were nice and hot and strong how we like them! Took a little while to find parking. But it was worth it. Can see the little details they out in to there shop. Appreciate little things, they take pride in their craft. read more
LOVE this matcha spot! Can't stop going ever since I found it near my friends place, so I always make sure to get my morning caffeine fix here whenever I visit Seattle! My go-to is the Pineapple matcha (so refreshing!) but they have plenty of other flavor options like ube, white chocolate, etc etc and also coffee lattes! Ummmm I don't think I realized how bad the matcha I was drinking was before coming here! My friend got the Banana latte w/ Matcha and I got the Strawberry Latte w/ Matcha. It was the perfect balance of sweetness but still keep the natural flavor of both strawberry and matcha. The place is a cute little cafe, very vibrant. Came on a Saturday and there was a small crowd. The interior is cute and there's limited seating. I ordered the ube matcha and it didn't have much flavor. The ube flavor overpowered the matcha flavor but it was still very light. It tasted like ube powdery grassy latte. Stars for the nice workers and decor of the place. I got the Ube Matcha Latte. I was told that there was no adjustments on the sugar level as the sweetness comes from the ube. When I got my drink, it looked exactly like the pictures! However, when I took a sip, it did not have much flavor and it was not sweet at all and did not have much flavor. I even made sure to mixed the drink and had my boyfriend try it as well. I usually love matcha lattes, so it was pretty disappointing and I ended up throwing it away. read more

ordered through doordash. the drinks were packaged nicely and made it to me safely. matcha latte (4/5): pretty good matcha flavor! i got this w oat milk and 25% sweetness. the sweetness was good for me, but maybe could've been a tiny bit sweeter? 50% might be too sweet though. strawberry matcha latte (4/5): also got this with oat milk. you could taste the matcha and the strawberry, but had to try a bit to taste the matcha. i feel like this is a common issue with strawberry matcha lattes and the pairing itself, so nothing against this particular drink. was good though! read more
This was one of the places I've been waiting years to visit whenever I'm in Seattle and I finally got to go! The aesthetics of this cafe is everything and I'm so glad the drinks are just as good. The staff here are seriously some of the most bubbly workers I've ever encountered and they're super passionate about their products. Here's what I got to try: Butterfly Matcha - tastes like mint chip ice cream! I honestly was not expecting the butterfly pea to have a minty taste, but I personally love the taste of mint. Think of a less sweet mint mojito from Philz but with a slight matcha aftertaste. Ube Matcha - made with real ube halaya! The texture of ube halaya is thick like a paste and slightly grainy. You get to taste the two distinct flavors of ube and matcha in this drink. Chaga Mushroom Matcha - has a mild chocolate-y taste without compromising the matcha. This was the least sweet of the three drinks ordered and personally the only drink I wouldn't order again. read more

Was actually collecting on a tab left by an IG account that likes to help small local businesses. I'm glad I returned and tried something different this time. I really enjoyed the Black Sesame Matcha drink. I do like that you can customize a bit and they offer alternate milks. I grabbed one of Little Mittens Kinako doughnut cubes as well. My friend had the Jasmine Milk Crystal Boba but thinks she would go with the Special Sea Salt Jasmine next time she had a ip of her friends and really liked his. read more
TLDR; a super cute cafe located in capitol hill. really pretty interior decor and an assortment of specialty drinks. the ube matcha latte looked great, but lacked a bit in matcha flavor. i was really in love with the interior--the menu, the tables and chairs, and even the "atulea" sign is so cute and great for taking pictures of your drink! the service was very friendly and efficient too. // ube matcha latte // i was super excited to try the ube matcha latte! it's not a drink that i come across very often so i really wanted to try it. the drink itself is really pretty, with layers of matcha and ube. the ube was creamy and had good flavor (not too sweet at all). it was a bit grainy but usually that's how ube is. my only feedback is the drink lacked in matcha flavor--i couldn't taste much of it. so when i mixed the drink, it was hard to taste both the ube and matcha. overall, it's a really cute spot. i sat there and did some work on my computer for an hour. there's wifi, outlets, and a couple of small tables. read more
i tried the matcha white mocha with boba and my friend tried the ube matcha. i really liked the matcha white mocha with boba and would def recommend it with or without boba! the drink kept me caffeinated the remainder of the day. the ube matcha was not my favorite and like the mix reviews on yelp i would not recommend. however the interior is so cute with pink and green colors. one down side about the space, it is small with 4-5 small tables with 2 chairs each. more of a grab and go spot for matcha read more

I tried their strawberry matcha with oat-milk and it was very well balanced. They sweetened it with strawberry puree, overall the matcha drink was a 7/10 for me. They have such a fun drink menu and I will be returning in the future to try their other drinks. read more
I came here with my friend in mid-November after getting Ramen Danbo (a 10 min walk) and have no regrets. I heard about Atulea through social media and have walked by several times, but never had the chance to try it until now. Atulea has matcha drinks, boba, coffee, soft serve ice cream, and an assortment of pastries. I ordered the Hojicha Caramel soft serve (note that they rotate their flavors seasonally). I could've gotten boba on top, but I unfortunately was too full from dinner. My friend ordered the Iced Matcha Mocha. My soft serve had strong notes of hojicha and a very creamy texture. It might not be as creamy or rich as Nana's Green Tea soft-serve, but Nanas doesn't serve hojicha soft-serve, at least at the Seattle location. The caramel sauce complemented the earthy notes of the hojicha wonderfully. Also, presentation was perfect. My friend enjoyed his matcha mocha and said he had never had anything quite like it (basically it's a dirty matcha (espresso plus matcha) with chocolate syrup). Service was excellent, but we were also one of the last customers for the night. We basically got the entire cafe to ourselves. The cashier gave me a cute stamp card too; buy 10 drinks get one free. The atmosphere is cozy; it's not super big as it is located at the bottom of an apartment complex. The interior is instaworthy for sure with its tropical walls and neon sign. This was a welcome stop during our last day of our weekend in Seattle. It was pretty warm out, and I was overdressed. My wife ordered a matcha latte (I think) and I had the gyokuro. I have no idea what that is or why (according to the online menu) the cheese foam would be served separately. Mine came on top of my drink where it belongs! The staff was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable enough to answer our questions. I noticed you could save a little $$ if you opted out of cheese foam in your drink. That was surprising to me since most places don't give a discount for omitting things from your order. But who in their right minds opts out of cheese foam? read more
Beautiful plants + yummy drinks? Sign me up! I was looking for milk tea on Yelp and I saw this place and thought it was an aesthetic place with a great menu so I decided to try it out. They specialize in matcha but I don't like matcha (please don't attack me haha) so I chose the house milk tea with 25% sweetness and wow, it was definitely on the less sweet side (but that's how I love my drinks). You can definitely taste the tea flavor but it wasn't extremely over powering. This place is so cute with its decor so it's perfect for plant lovers and people looking to get a cute photo in while enjoying a nice drink. read more

My all time favorite boba spot in Cap Hill and probably all of Seattle!! I can't think of any other place that serves organic ceremonial grade matcha or chaga. We're talking quality and amazing drink concoctions I've never had any where else. They use loose leaf teas, house made syrups and none of that artificial stuff. The soft serve ice cream is really yummy and they have rotating flavors. There are also take home boba kits and bottles too which I have yet to try. It's so cute and vibey, it definitely makes me happy whenever I stop by. I love that they aren't a huge boba chain and a locally owned business. Very underrated!! If you're looking for high quality tea in cap hill, look no further! Atulea gave me biggg Alfred's vibes when I saw they had a chaga latte so of course I had to sus it out (twice lol) since I can't get my hands on Alfred's in LA. I tried the chaga matcha during my first visit and really liked it, which is why I came back for the chaga latte (right). I like how they use an organic ceremonial grade matcha, giving you a bold but smooth flavor that pairs well with the coffee. The price does reflect the quality, but can get pricey if you get add-ons. You can order online, but note that the estimate they give you doesn't reflect the real ETA. Luckily in my experience, it's on the short end of the stick vs long. I was given 15-25 minute estimates, but I'd get the ready text before I even walked down the stairs. Not a major concern since I ordered cold drinks, but definitely something to note, especially if you're ordering a hot drink or something that won't bode well sitting there. While I liked my drinks from both visits, this couldn't be an everyday spot for me because my wallet would cry. But their more traditional teas are a little cheaper so I'd be interested to try in the future. My friend got the ube matcha (left), and we're still wondering how the purple was so vibrant! read more

Y'all (can you tell I'm from Texas) this place is quite adorable and has great matcha. I opted for a Lavender White Mocha iced Matcha latte - SCHMACKED. This item isn't directly on the menu, but you can add a pump or syrup of Lavender to your drinks. I was going between the Lavender vs White Mocha and the kindest baristas said why not both so here we went! It was not super florally, and was just the right amount of sweetness. I normally am super slow at drinking but that was not the case with this. I would definitely come back again, I think I'd want to try the pineapple next but my drink was so good I'd prob go for that again. The actual shop itself is kinda small, I felt like I was lucky to have a table to work at with an outlet nearby. The employees are super nice as well. There's a clean restroom too. I'd love to spend another afternoon remote working here. It's also a great place to grab a drink w a friend! It's probably not meant for larger groups though seating wise as the tables are small. read more

Cute stop with aesthetic decor and delicious matcha-centric drinks! My friend got the matcha red bean drink while I got the matcha ube. Although the cashier said the red bean was unsweetened, it had a touch of natural sweetness which was really good! Both drinks were delicious and the matcha flavor was strong - in a good way. You could also see the employees using a matcha whisk in the back which was simultaneously hilarious and cute. Ambiance was laid-back - some people were working on their laptops, while others were stopping by with their friends. Service was the same across all Seattle places, I've noticed - guarded politeness. Also - whoever's been handling the Instagram/decor/designs is doing an amazing job. A gorgeous feast for the eyes haha, which is what attracted us in the first place. read more
Such a cute cafe! It's a bit hidden away within cap hill but the ambiance was so so charming. Sort of a tropical theme with comfy chairs, plants, and leafy decor. There's quite a bit of seating and outlets as well. I got the matcha latte which was delicious. My friend got the ube matcha latte and really liked it as well! I love finding bubble tea shops that specialize in having different types of tea on the menu. In addition to lots of matcha and caffeinated options, they also have a few low/no caffeine drinks. No extra charge for oat, almond, soy, or coconut milk? I'm sold! On top of having a menu I am in love with, the shop itself is super aesthetic. There are plants everywhere and the wall designs are super cute. However, I will warn y'all that the drinks won't be cheap. The milk teas are around $4.50-$4.75 which isn't crazy, but their toppings range from $0.75-1.50 so you can easily find yourself paying close to, or over $6, for a drink. I got a hojicha milk tea ($4.75) with pearls ($0.75) and oatmilk ($0). I didn't even realize that a lot of people get the ube matcha drink, but I have no regrets about missing out. The hojicha milk tea was SO GOOD! The pearls were perfectly sweet and chewy, and the hojicha flavor was super strong. WHEN: Tue @3pm Not busy at all at this time. I was staying at an Airbnb nearby which is how I discovered this super cute spot. I knew I had to check it out and try the soft serve. The murals inside are gorgeous and It's so well decorated overall with plants. I wish I can hang out here all day! Here's what I had: PEACH JASMINE SOFT SERVE - $5 Such a lovely pairing of flavors and you taste them both! Absolutely refreshing and it's a lot of it! Sadly they don't have waffle cones but it's okay. The price may seem a but I haven't seen such unique flavors anywhere else! They do rewards cards so don't forget to get your card stamped! From what I saw in the menu, they carry very interesting and unique drinks and pastries. Definitely worth checking out! read more

3.5 Stars. I love that they have ube here! And their tropical wallpaper game is on! That's what I like most about Atulea, but my ube matcha could've been better. My friend and I decided to get some drinks here after our brunch, so stopped by Atulea, as we heard positive words about it. The menu features a lot of variety, which was nice, from standard milk teas to more fruit forward ones and so forth. I always have to order ube anything, so ordered an iced ube matcha while my friend had a lychee rose milk tea. At first sip, I liked my drink because of how abundant the ube flavor was. But the matcha was sadly weak, so my caffeine fuel was lacking. I needed a pick-me-up and unfortunately, that was not the case here. However, the ube was bomb, and like that they offer this flavor that is not often found elsewhere. When I come back to Atulea I'd most likely get another drink if I need some caffeine (story of my life). I have a feeling it's worth checking out again and hopefully then, my experience will be better. read more

Can you alter sweetness level here?
Hi there! We can do less sugar, half sugar, no sugar, and more sugar for any sweetened drinks, but we can't really do percentage of sugar level because we add sugar by hand instead of using an automatic sugar dispenser machine:) Hope this helps!
