Another great contender in the current matcha surge! I wanted a drink one day. Phe was closed, and I already had Coche Valley, so I decided to give this place another try. My first visit was in 2023 before I did reviews, so I don't remember a thing about how their matcha was even though they're more known for it. When I looked at the menu above the counter and saw how many lattes and drinks there were (and how many of them you could add matcha to, which is almost all of them) I was like, "Dang, which one do I choose???" For this visit, I got their ube matcha latte with oat milk from my server's recommendation. She highly recommend the strawberry matcha latte as well (and I saw three people get it while I was waiting to order), but I'll get that another time. Most ube-flavored items are overly sweet, especially when I eat them as they are. This ube latte was too but there wasn't so much of it to the point where I wanted to throw it away. In fact, the ratio was perfect! Matcha was also strong and present, and wasn't sweet in addition to the ube puree at the bottom of the drink. I did notice that servers were not whisking their matcha manually - one of them was using a matcha whisker attached to what looked like an electric whisker to whisk my matcha. But this didn't affect my drink in any way (i.e. I didn't taste any clumps in my matcha) so it works! The interior is also pretty simple and clean, and you can see the store logo when you walk in. I really enjoyed the small area that displayed small crocheted stuff you can buy, being someone who crochets as well. I was pretty overwhelmed by the choices they had for their drinks, so this won't be my last time coming here to see how else they can blend their matcha.
An adorable, very of-the-times aesthetic cafe with labubus and sonny angels peeking around the space in Capitol Hill. Orders: Dirty Matcha ($6.75): ended up opting out of having milk in this and it was as you expect a ceremonial grade matcha and espresso would taste, as pure as can be and of course not the sweetest. Lychee Rose ($5.95): this is a black tea with lychee peels and rosebuds, house-made brown sugar. It was listed as a popular drink and we got it half sugar, but the flavors weren't coming through strongly. All in all would come again to try the matcha drinks again! I'm not a matcha girly, much more a coffee one but appreciate it. Perhaps the strawberry matcha next!
Wait, I'm obsessed. If I lived in Seattle, I'd come here all the time to try all of their drinks! So grateful my best friend found this matcha gem. The cafe is so freaking cute omg. I love everything about it--tropical wallpaper, luscious plants, wicker furniture, and just the relaxed vibe. Also loved the local music playing which transported me back to living in Hawaiʻi. There are a few tables inside which are popular for people to work or study at (WiFi available). The workers were also really sweet and made our drinks quickly. The menu is lovely. First off there are hot, iced, or specialty drinks. Depending on your drink of choice, you can choose if you want it with espresso, matcha, or hojicha! How cool is that? Dairy alternatives are also available and ice and sweetness adjustments. As a Japanese gal, I love seeing traditional and fusion flavors I'm used to offered at cafes! I had an Iced Strawberry Shortcake Latte with Soy Milk. You could taste the sweet white chocolate, bits of strawberry, and earthiness of the matcha. My best friend got a Matcha Fog and enjoyed it! I'd get this again and again! Atulea is one of the best matcha spots for quality and affordability in Seattle! The drinks are wonderfully unique, the service is efficient, and there's so much to try. If I lived here, I'd come again and again. The cafe is cute and easy to spot off 12th Ave. in Capitol Hill.
I absolutely adore this cafe. I'm a matcha lover and this place fulfills my love for matcha. There's always something on the menu that caters to my mood. It's very customizable. They have matcha, coffee or hojicha as the base. Lots of fun drinks such as the banana milk latte. I love being experiment and ordering something different from the special menu. The drinks are hand crafted with love and attention. The decor/atmosphere is very chill although the space is not very big. It's nice for getting drinks to go but if I'm not in a hurry, I like to savor my drink here.
This place is awesome. What I loved most was how customizable it is. You can pick between matcha, hojicha, or black tea for your drink and then pick the type of drink you want. I got hojicha because it was the afternoon and I needed low caffeine. I also went with the banana milk latte. Service was quick and efficient. The inside is also very cute. Great decor.
small neighborhood spot that's definitely going to be lived by locals for its location but a bit difficult to access if you're in a vehicle. parking in this area is at a premium but i will say that there's enough 30min load and unload spots that you could do a couple turns around the neighborhood, occupy an available one, order and be back to move on with the rest of your morning or day before parking patrol would ruin it with a ticket. this being my first visit, i went with the caramel thai tea, iced. i asked for reduced sugar be i find that too many beverages nowadays are helping the insulin industry, if you know what i mean. my drink was quick to come to the counter, with the smallest tinge of sweetness which was actually refreshing and had good flavor. i especially liked the fact you can choose from a variety of non dairy milks for no extra charge! the employee waiting on me was friendly and offered to give input if i couldn't arrive at a decision based on all the options. a good place to get something cold on a sunny seattle summer day!
I've been here a couple of times. The staff has always been friendly and served our drinks efficiently. Although the facility is a bit small, it's clean and well-kept. This time, we ordered cheese teas since they have lower caffeine. I found the hot cheese tea pleasantly warming. However, my friends didn't enjoy it as much--they felt the cheese could have been stirred in rather than sitting on top, to balance the flavor and avoid an overwhelming cheese taste.
Coming back after a few years and not too sure how I feel. I have become much more of a matcha connoisseur since the last time I wrote a review but it's sad to say this time around was a bit dissapointing. The cafe is still just as beautiful with a lot on the menu to offer. I got the butterfly pea matcha latte. The green matcha color was very vibrant but luckily I love mint because that is all that I taste. The baristas were very standoffish, especially for a popular cafe, and I wouldn't expect a barista to be eating her lunch and have it out on the counter behind the register. The two times I have come here, I have gotten their specially lattes but if I come back again, I will try their regular matcha latte for the true test!

From the cutest wallpaper and in-person seating options to ceremonial grade matcha to the freshest blueberry mix in, my visit did not disappoint! The combination of blueberry and matcha, mixed with the texture of real blueberries, not just a syrup or juice, added to the appeal of my drink. I'm already wishing I could go back just by writing this post and uploading my pics of the experience!
Atulea is the most creative matcha teahouse/cafe I've ever been. You can basically customize anything on their menu into a matcha drink. I struggled between pineapple matcha, black sesame matcha and ube matcha. A paradise for matcha lovers. I've nearly filled up my stamp card in my first visit, and I'm looking forward to coming back to try more interesting matcha lattes and matcha soft serve. ＊Ube Matcha** The ube flavor really stood out especially in my first few sips, while not overpowering the matcha. It had pretty layers of green and purple. The drink got diluted once the ice melted, so I'd suggest consuming it quickly or getting a hot ube matcha instead. ＊White Mocha Matcha Their white mocha matcha was also life-changing. I am not a fan of hot chocolate, but this one has the perfect sweetness level. Highly recommend getting a hot one -- it had mini marshmallow on top. It tasted festive like a warm hug in winter.

It's been over a year since the last time time I visited Atulea. There were lots of summer drinks available this time around that I hadn't seen before that looked quite enticing to order and try. I ordered the Iced Blueberry Pie Latte. My sister ordered the Iced Strawberry Shortcake Matcha. My friend ordered the Iced Sea Salt Creamy Matcha. All the drinks were great! The perfect amount of sweetness to these drinks. I was very pleased with the Iced Blueberry Pie Latte since I was a little worried I wouldn't like it. The customer service was great, yet again! The employees working were friendly and made ordering super easy. read more
Loveee the drink options here/ they have a really good variety for everyone! There's tons of matcha options and coffee options as well as milk tea. I got their matcha cloud on top of jasmine tea and it was really good! Good quality matcha, paired perfectly with the jasmine tea. Not too sweet, I got it less sweet. Such a cute little tea spot tucked in the neighborhood! The vibe inside is super cozy and welcoming, and the staff is always really kind. I tried the Butterfly Pea Latte a couple of weeks ago and loved it -- nice refreshing flavor for warm summer days. Just remember to mix it well as I am guessing they put the sweetness on the top. Really good, smooth matcha paired with plenty of delicious flavor options made in house! The ube matcha latte with boba and the red bean matcha latte were both excellent. You can tell they use quality ingredients - the ube and red bean tasted authentic and not too sweet. A must try for matcha lovers! read more
I wish I had taken the time to look at the menu and ask if some options were matcha based or coffee based - the actual cafe is not very big so there's not much space for a line. I personally feel that the menu isn't the most clear and it took a bit to find something I knew existed (strawberry matcha latte). I'm not a matcha expert but I have had a good number of matcha lattes in the past. I prefer mine on the sweeter side, but somehow this drink was simultaneously too sweet and not sweet enough? I tried so many sips to understand what was happening and I think the strawberries were not sweet/not ripe but there was so much strawberry purée that it was both sweet and not sweet at the same time. The consistency of the matcha itself also felt a little off to me and it wasn't a very smooth experience. read more
Not good. Not sure how this place has so many positive reviews. Found this shop through a quick yelp search as we were visiting the area and were really disappointed, especially since the photos looked quite promising. What we ordered: -Ube Matcha Latte: Grainy. Very light matcha notes, like it was diluted. Just tasted like coconut milk/cream after it was fully mixed. I reluctantly finished about 1/3 of the drink before tossing it. -Banana Milk Matcha Latte: Severely watered down. I thought the ube matcha was bad but this was worse. My boyfriend took a few sips of it an tossed the entire drink. The banana notes were very syrupy/chemical-tasting as well. The shop and parking: The shop is medium sized and has cute decor. Pastries are offered in their glass case. Staff were nice and the reason why I gave an extra star. Paid parking is available on the street, but we walked as the area is difficult to find a spot. Overall: Spent nearly $15 for drinks that were VERY watered down. Not at all what we were expecting. Would not pay another visit. read more

Kind staff and great matcha drinks in a cute space! I got a pineapple matcha latte, which I haven't seen in any other tea shops! The matcha itself was super good--perfect balance of sweet and bitter. The pineapple puree was a little too sweet. But the pineapple and matcha together made a really good combination. Drink was around $8 which is on the pricier side but it is a 16 oz. read more

Coming from the Bay Area, my best friend and I were so happy to have found this perfect café! This is what a café should be. Every business should take notes. Once you step inside, you can tell Atulea takes pride in their creative drinks, selection of furniture, LED brand sign, wallpaper and even their cup sleeves! Most cafés don't even bother and do the bare minimum. Atulea shines with their attention to details from their marketing on social idea to their cute aesthetic! And the best of all...their drinks! I love how their drinks are very customizable from your choice of matcha, double espresso or hojicha shot. Dairy-free alternatives are free of charge too. How amazing! I got the London Fog Matcha which was not sweet. It's very fragrant from the earl grey milk tea and I tasted more earl grey than matcha. I think their matcha is not a bold flavor, although it seems they are generous with the amount of matcha they use! My best friend and I would meet at Atulea all the time only if it was closer! This is the best café I've been to. I love cafés that use their money to take their branding and drinks to the next level. If you see the baristas making matcha, you'll see that they even have a Japanese handheld whisk holder. How cool! read more
Atulea was conveniently right next to where I was staying and it had a cute interior, so I stopped by when I had some time to kill a couple Sunday afternoons ago. The interior is super cute and there are a few tables to sit at. The service was fast and I got my drink pretty quickly. CHAGA MUSHROOM LATTE - 6.75 You can choose between coffee or matcha, and of course I chose the coffee option. This was quite good as an iced latte and it wasn't too sweet. The mushroom flavor was earthy. I don't drink a lot of mushroom lattes, but I enjoyed this one a lot. It was balanced by the other spices present in the drink. I give this a 4/5 and not a 5/5 because the pricing here is $$$. After tax, my drink was closer to 8.00, rip. read more
I've been wanting to try this place for a while!!!! cute little shop with very limited seating but it adds to its cuteness. perfect for matcha date! The people there were nice. I tried the strawberry matcha latte and it was pretty ok. I had really high expectations bc of it being a more matcha place so I was expecting to love it - but as we know I love a sweetened drink and this just wasn't that. I probably should have asked for more sweetener. The strawberry purée in the drink is amazing tho and is def a must try. read more
Very cute little drink spot in Capitol Hill! Not really in a busy area but not too far from Cal Andersen Park. My husband and I came here post lunch around 1pm and it was pretty packed. They have like 3 or 4 tables where you can sit and enjoy your drink. I thought it was pretty cool that they occasionally have pop-ups of other vendors come in! When we were there, Nata Seattle who makes egg tarts was there selling some items and it was delicious! For the drinks, I ordered the cheese gyokuro tea and my husband got the black sugar hojicha oat latte special. I personally liked his a lot more. The cheese gyokuro tea was good but the coldness from the added cheese foam made my drink less hot so it was more of a tepid warm drink. Overall, would love to come back on a warmer day to try their boba and cold drinks. read more

Delicious drinks and cute and chill place to hang out. Service is fast so if you are looking for grab and go, Atulea is the shop for you. They have plenty of hot and cold drinks to choose from. My fave was the matcha ube drink, it was one of the best matcha drink i've had. They have few pastries and cookies, but didn't have a lot of options. There is no designated parking spot for the shop but there's plenty of paid street parking. read more

My friend and I ordered an ube matcha and a lychee rose milk tea. Both drinks tasted just like water. It was really disappointing. I was craving a good boba drink but instead got expensive water. I agree with other reviews on here who also said their drinks tasted very watered down with barely any flavor. The ube matcha drink looked pretty and yet it still tasted like water. the most instagram cafe ever LOL it's super cute honestly, all pastel decor. Our drinks came out timely af and my matcha was quite good. Wish there was a more tart pineapple flavor but even without it it's a pretty solid drink. During my trip to Seattle, I really enjoyed trying ube flavored drinks every chance I got. We decided to stop by here to grab a drink for our walk and I was pleasantly surprised with the options here. I got the ube matcha and I think the flavor was pretty obvious and was a bit sweeter than some of the other places. I also normally don't like matcha, but I thought it was really good here. My friend got the pineapple matcha latte and hers was pretty good. Definitely a flavor I wouldn't have imagined together, but I think it went well. A bit less sweet than the ube, but I thought both drinks were good. Between the two of them, I'd recommend the ube though! The staff was super friendly and explained the drinks to us. I also really enjoyed the interior and thought they had cute decorations. There was limited seating, so if it's busy that day, then you may have to take your drink elsewhere. Overall, I really enjoyed this place and recommend it if you're looking to grab a matcha drink. read more

I was so appreciative of the owner when she put sticker caps in the straw hole because I told her I would be traveling with 3 boba drinks. FYI no boba until 11AM but their other drinks are available! Such creative and large menu options for Asian inspired coffee and boba drinks. Obsessed! read more

Came here on a Monday afternoon because I was craving a matcha latte. The ambiance is lovely but there's limited seating with only four tables. But if you manage to get a spot, it's the perfect place to catch up with a friend or do some work. I ordered a dirty matcha latte with almond milk and 50% sweetness. I love how customizable the drinks are but my latte was still a bit on the sweet side. Would love to try their more unique drinks next time! read more

Small place on 12th that offers a matcha and coffee menu. I had to try their matcha so I ordered an iced ube matcha. The ube jam enriches the matcha drink with its thicker texture and ube flavor. The drink is a bit grainy, as would a black sesame coffee if you know what I mean, and when you mix the matcha layer with the ube jam, it creates an unpleasant color lol. I would probably try the hot version instead next time or something else off the menu. read more
Cute matcha and coffee shop in CapHill. The space is welcoming with the pink and botany vibe they have going on. I got the ube matcha latte but it unfortunately tasted more like ube than matcha. It has limited seating (can maybe sit around 8-10 people) but thankfully both times I came, I didn't have an issue. Not sure if I'd come back since the matcha flavor isn't as strong as I hoped for and my drink was almost $9 since I got oat milk. read more
Stopped by for a morning coffee while in the area - very cozy vibes, great for WFH. Loved the brown sugar hojicha oat latte, you can definitely taste both the toasted brown sugar and earthy hojicha. The barista asked for sugar level adjustments, which I wasn't aware of (opted for half sweetness). The ube latte was just alright - the espresso was overpowering and the ube flavor was too light for my liking. I've tried the ube matcha before and definitely prefer that. read more
I love this place for a good matcha drink! The matcha flavor is strong and they grind it in front of you. Love all the different flavors. Decided to try the chaga matcha (mushroom) this time and loved the flavor. There was a lot of granules at the bottom, but I personally liked that. Drinks come out quickly and they have cute decor inside. Will definitely be coming again read more

Can you alter sweetness level here?
Hi there! We can do less sugar, half sugar, no sugar, and more sugar for any sweetened drinks, but we can't really do percentage of sugar level because we add sugar by hand instead of using an automatic sugar dispenser machine:) Hope this helps!
