Service was solid quick and friendly, no complaints there. The coffee was good too, smooth and flavorful. You can tell they take some care in how they make their drinks. Only downside is the price it's a bit on the higher side for what you're getting. It was kind of a hot day and I was eyeing the pear yuzu fizz drink for a while and decided to get some today. I liked how they used smaller ice in the drink because it made it look more delicate and pretty. But the flavor was not as great as I expected. First of all, I wish they used a stronger carbonated water because I could barely feel the fizz, which was necessary to make it a more summerly drink in my opinion. Also they didn't do a good job mixing the drink well because I ended up with thick syrup at the bottom and I didn't even take that long to finish the drink, 10 min tops. Not long enough to have heavier ingredients get to the bottom, and I was constantly on a move with the drink too. Barista was nice though and I appreciated that. OMG this place is SO stinkin cute. The interior is absolutely adorable, it's one of those cafés where you walk in and immediately want to take photos of everything (and I did lol). The real star here is the drinks. I'm a huge matcha snob, and Joie seriously impressed me. I got the ube matcha and my partner ordered the pandan, and both were incredible. The flavors were floral, balanced, and somehow even better than they looked (which is saying something because they are gorgeous). The service was fine, nothing extraordinary but pleasant and very quick. Honestly the drinks are what makes this place shine. Visiting Seattle again for the weekend and finally made it to Joie. The parking around the shop is terrible but definitely worth it. The staff were super friendly and drinks were delicious! Space inside is quite small and limited, but still a great place to pick up a coffee or matcha to go. I got the teddy bear latte which isn't super sweet despite the actual cookies in the latte. It comes with a chocolate whipped foam which perfectly compliments the intense espresso. My friend got the ube latte which is one of the best we've had in the city so far! Most of the time when we've tried Ube anything, it's more coconut than actually Ube. But this latte is a great balance and a little earthy. Good Vietnamese coffee! Firstly, the shop is super cute and aesthetic. Secondly, the drinks are good! I tried the Sweet Corn Latte and the Mango Sticky Rice Matcha Latte! The Sweet Corn Latte tasted good, but the corn flavor didn't come through. Based on taste, I would've thought it was a really yummy sweet latte as I couldn't taste the corn. As I was visiting Seattle, my wife wanted to walk down to Joie for coffee and dragged me along. I really didn't want to go but relented. It turned out it was a fantastic choice! I'm not a coffee drinker but there is plenty to choose from for non-coffee drinkers like myself. I'm a sucker for chocolate so I went with the cacao crush. It was made with milk, a homemade chocolate sauce, cocoa powder, and cream cheese. The cream cheese really made it special though it did take a while for me to get the cream cheese and cocoa powder to mix in with the milk. My iced matcha latte was not good at all. It was contaminated with some other flavor, tasting almost melony? I couldn't put my finger on the taste, but it wasn't something I enjoyed. It was also very pricey at $8 before tip. I was told that they can't adjust sweetness or ice levels. You're only able to choose sweetened or unsweetened. This turned me off a bit because I prefer when there are scales for the sweetness and ice levels (like 0-100% or less-extra etc.). I opted for sweetened with simple syrup, and it didn't taste sweet at all. Also, the ice cubes are small here - almost like crushed ice. I know many people love ice like this, but it's just not my preference. The location is also quite difficult because it's off a busy road and there are only about 5 street parking spots right out front. On the plus side, there is a bathroom. I was interested in trying their coffee drinks another time, but after my first experience, I probably won't come back. read more

Joie is one of the coffee shops bookmarked in Seattle - I love that they had a lot of creative flavors and a big menu. There's tea, matcha, and Viet coffees. There was a few spots in front of other Joie for parking and residential parking around. I got the banana cream matcha latte. I liked how they let me specify the type of milk and if I wanted the latte sweetened or not. The drink itself was delicious - the banana flavor really came through in the cream so I recommend mixing the drink. I also tried a bit of the fruit tea and that was nice as well. It wasn't super sweet and had a few pieces of fresh fruit. The ube cream puff was pretty good and packed with ube flavor. I saw one of my friends post this place on IG a couple days back, and I was an okay driving distance from Ballard so I had to try it! Parking to get here mostly consists of street and residential areas, so be warned. The inside is very pink and cute though it has only two benches for seating; it's more of a grab-and-go type of situation. You order up at the counter, where the menu also is. There is also a menu near the front door but it was VERY easy to miss given the inside of the place (with the color and decorations) already draws me in. Not much to say about service since your order up front and the rest is self-serve from straws to napkins. I got the pandan matcha latte with oat milk as a substitution, and my friend got the ube matcha latte with regular milk. Both drinks were really great; I could taste the strong ceremonial grade matcha in both drinks, and the ube flavor in my friend's drink was especially prominent. For my pandan drink, the pandan flavor was bogged down quite a bit by my drink having more than half the cup be filled with ice but the taste was still there so that's good. For me, I just loved how the matcha itself wasn't bogged down! They have other drinks here too like Vietnamese coffee, so I'm down to give those a try the next time I come here! read more

I've come here twice now - once shortly after they opened and again more recently, and unfortunately, I have been underwhelmed both times. I love supporting local businesses and this place is a convenient location for me, but the place just missed the mark. This most recent visit, I ordered the mango sticky rice matcha drink, which is seasonal, I believe. The photos looked really nice so I was excited about it. Although, the drink was bright green, it appears to be some kind of tea blend, like maybe jasmine and matcha. It's definitely did not taste like only matcha. If it's a blend (maybe to be less expensive to the business), I feel like they should clearly state that. I was asked if I wanted the drink sweetened or unsweetened, which was confusing. The mango part is already sweet and the topping is already sweet, so I guess they are asking if you want the matcha part sweetened? When she first asked me, I thought the entire drink would be unsweetened if I went with that option (I guess that doesn't make sense but it is still kind of odd). I ended up getting half sweet but it was still too sweet for me. The mango part tastes artificial as well (doesn't appear to be made with fresh or frozen mango). All in all, the drink was just ok (given the items mentioned) and was like $9.50 or so without any modifications. I think there are other places around a similar price point that I enjoy more. Pros: The gal who helped me was friendly - and they seem to have many creative drinks here. Others seem to enjoy this place, so maybe I need to order a coffee drink or something different next time. read more

This brings me no "Joie" to write this review, but it must be done. On Monday morning, June 9th, 2025, I ordered online my usual sweet corn matcha latte for my friend. As a treat I got a strawberry tea creama for my partner, and a mung bean latte with no ice for myself. Lest I forget, I come here every week, at the very least every two weeks. The drinks were pretty tasty per usual, except the latter, mung bean latte. Look at my photos and tell me if you'd pay $7 for this. The person who made said drinks was an extremely unpleasant lady. Clearly not one who enjoys small talk or anyone who comes into the establishment. Every time she works, it's actually sad. You'd think after seeing several reviews about this certain employee, management would do something about it e.g. retraining, sensitivity classes, letting her go. I'd actually be concerned if this rude individual were the owner or Joie herself. Oof. By no surprise, this lady gave my partner a terrible attitude when asked to fix the drink. She escalated the situation where in any other coffee shop, they'd HAPPILY remake your drink. Oh she said she knows my order, claiming it's a Thai tea with an espresso shot??? Ma'am... I've never had that in my life. That doesn't change the fact my mung bean latte literally NO MUNG BEAN CREAM???? I understand if I opt for no ice, the drink might not be filled to the top but y'all... no ice does not mean no mung bean cream. Are we being serious right now? All that to say, at the end of all this, she thought the best course of action was to try and charge my partner $10 to make a NEW one or $3.95 for more mung bean cream that's supposed to already be included. I asked for no ice but in the end, guess what she adds... not any mung bean cream LOL Seriously? So your industry standard is to make your loyal customers suffer at the hands of an employee's incompetence? Alriiiiight... It's a shame because again, the drinks are actually pretty good, the setting is very aesthetic and would look great on your IG page. I'd be remiss if I forget to mention that there are two other ladies who work there who are so much nicer and in tune when it comes to ACTUAL customer service. From now on, if I ever return, I will NEVER order online simply because of the rude lady's inability to listen or her inconsistently making drinks. I ain't playing no Russian Roulette. For the price point, you are running up just about $10 per drink... pass. There are so many other fantastic coffee shops within a few miles radius of Joie. Really cute shop! The decor is fun and eye catching. Their seating is one bench all along one wall with little pillows and such. They have vegan options and non-coffee options plus they can do a lot of their drinks with alt milks for dairy free. Everything seems to be made fresh to order which is a bonus too. The server was kind and gave me time to peruse the menu and then was accommodating of my allergy and asked questions to make sure I got what I was looking for. Cute coffee/tea shop a few blocks away from Market St in Ballard. Note that the street outside is fairly loud so not the best place to stay and chat. Tried both the Ube Latte and the Fresh Fruit tea unsweetened. The ube cream on the latte has a nice ube flavor and isn't too sweet! The fresh fruit tea is very refreshing and comes packed with real fruit. That said, I think the pineapple on the bottom comes pre-marinated in syrup so I recommend ordering the tea unsweetened if you don't like things too sweet. I was super excited to try out this cafe for the mango sticky rice matcha! Their page popped up on my Instagram feed and their drinks looked so yummy! My fiancé and I made the 45 minute drive just to try this place out (6/10/25) since I wanted to try it. Based the photos I took of our drinks, we arrived at around 3:45pm so there was a little less than an hour before closing. I'll start with the positives - The aesthetic of the cafe was sooo cute! They had blindbox collectibles everywhere and the place had such a fun, cutesy vibe. WRONG. The barista who took our order did not match the vibe. She asked me if I wanted my matcha sweetened (I ordered the mango sticky rice one) and I asked for her recommendation. In a snarky tone she said "well the matcha comes unsweetened....." with a stank face on the whole time. She kept talking to me in such a rude tone for no reason. We were the only ones at the cafe and she did not smile once or make any small talk. I don't really care about the small talk but she was so cold and unfriendly. If you're curious about my drink - It just tasted like mango flavored milk. The tiramisu matcha was alright. Both of us didn't even finish our drinks. I do appreciate the fact that they use quality matcha and whisk it the traditional way at least. I ordered a pandan cream puff and that was such a waste of money. The ones you get for free at a pho restaurant taste way better! I hate writing bad reviews especially with small businesses but I do not recommend this place at all unless you want to pay for overpriced matcha with extremely poor service. The starting price of the matchas are already high and then if you want oat milk, it's an additional $1 and if you want agave syrup for sweetener, it's an additional $.60. Our two matchas came out to over $24 which is higher than any place I can remember in Seattle. To top all of that off, they don't even call your number when your order is ready. They just make your drink and let it sit on the counter so you have to check for yourself when your order is ready. No "thank you"s, no greetings. It's like you're a number to them and you're on your way out. There's no "joie" here at all. There are many more matcha places in Seattle with friendlier baristas and service at a better price. read more
