Vale is a quaint and modern matcha shop located in SLU. There is street parking all around the area. Inside, they share a space next to a boutique hotel where there is seating downstairs and upstairs. For their menu, they have a nice selection of different coffee and matcha drinks to choose from. I ended up trying the Butter Pecan Matcha Latte and it was solid. All of the staff here are chill and welcoming. This is a great spot to grab a drink and go or to lounge around for a bit.

There are so many new matcha cafes in Seattle, and Vale is one of the top ones on my list. Using only ceremonial grade matcha, Vale is serving up delicious traditional and creative matcha drinks. Best of both worlds. They also have coffee and other teas, which you would think would be pretty basic options, but I got this amazing probiotic Hong Kong milk tea (made with miso, apparently!) that also came with a cookie to dip into the drink! Phenomenal and they have 24 oz cups, which is slowly sipped through as I spent the day working in the cafe. I say cafe, but it's actually a side attachment to a luxury apartment building, but it does have its own little seating area. You can also head up to the second floor of the apartment and sit in the lounge there too. It overlooks the cafe. They also work with a lot of other local businesses to provide pastries, cookies, coffee beans, and other products.

This spot is right in the heart of SLU and always caught my attention whenever I walked by because of the sign that says "matcha on tap."Right outside the entrance they even have a small matcha stand where they hand out samples sometimes, which is a nice touch. The cafe is attached to an apartment building and has a really cute, cozy vibe with an aesthetic mirror to take pictures. My go-to order is one of their breakfast sandwiches paired with either a strawberry matcha or a vanilla latte. They also offer lots of flavor options like earl grey, butter pecan, and banana, so it's a good place if you like switching up your drinks. They have a small selection of pastries as well. Prices are pretty comparable to most coffee and matcha spots which is around $7 depending on the size. The staff were also really friendly and provided great service. The only downside is that there are only about three tables to sit at.

Butter pecan matcha has my heart! It's a pretty cute and trendy cafe. Came on a weekend morning and it had a nice flow with nice music. Staff is very friendly. Prices are reasonable. I enjoyed the butter pecan matcha and their blueberry cornmeal muffin. Muffin was a tad bit dry but still ok. Maybe the other pastries are a better pick.

I finally checked out this place in South Lake Union and really enjoyed the experience. It's located in a quieter part of SLU, so it's easy to miss, but that also makes it a nice, calm stop. Seating is very limited both indoors and outdoors, though the area itself is open and walkable. The menu was more extensive than I expected, with a good variety of drinks and snacks. My seahawks inspired matcha latte came out to almost $9, which is definitely on the pricey side, but the matcha strength was solid. It was a bit too sweet for my taste, so I'd ask for less sweet next time. The staff was incredibly friendly. I came with my dog and they offered a pup cup, which was a huge win. The space is small but thoughtfully designed, with cute details throughout (including a trendy mirror moment). Would I come back? Yes! mainly to try other drinks, but ill ask for a less sweet version next time.

I was walking around Pioneer Square. Temps in the low 50s. Sunny weather. I randomly saw their pop-up cart near Occidental Square for the Mariners home opener. Really friendly baristas. They were offering samples. I ended up ordering their Strawberry Matcha Latte. It was good. Honestly, I don't have time to trek all the way to SLU, so I appreciate them visiting other Seattle neighborhoods. I hope they show up for more pop-up events down in Pioneer Square. They wouldn't have any competition since there aren't any matcha shops in this neighborhood. You'd have to walk to Le Grey in Chinatown or make your way up to Phê on Capitol Hill. Maybe they'll set up their cart for First Thursday Art Walks or be present during game days and concerts as the weather gets sunnier and temps get warmer. Anyway, glad they showed up in 98104.

    Jasmine matcha cloud NOT GOOD
    Andii S.

The jasmine matcha cloud was a complete letdown. The jasmine tea was watery and did not stand out or perform on its own, and even when mixing the matcha foam in it just tasted like a really sad, watered down, unpleasant drink. It was so bad that I forced myself to go back in despite how much I do not like resorting to this to ask for a new drink. They were super kind about it and I went with a regular matcha latte which was much, much better. While it was a much better drink than the jasmine matcha cloud, it was still just okay overall and the matcha didn't stand out to me. Staff were incredibly nice, sweet, helpful, and patient though, so that made an otherwise negative experience much more pleasant. Also everything here is by default non dairy so this I place is great for folks that do milk alternatives.

I swear I got targeted on social media. It showed up as a sponsored ad on my feed, so naturally I went to google to vouch for it. Photos of the matcha was what intrigued me. Another plus point was that it was a 15 minute-ish walk from Pike Place. The shop is vibey. There's a cute body-length mirror for selfies. The shelves are full of hipster snacks. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Menu: they offer 4 sizes, so prices will depend on the drink size. The oat matcha latte is a go-to of mine. It was really good here. The banana matcha latte was mixed already, despite the photo showing it not mixed. I am not an expert on matcha, but I didn't like that there were questionable solids at the bottom of my hot matcha latte (with whole milk). I'm inclined to think that this means they handled the matcha improperly. Bad technique, no sifting? Another matcha offering for the downtown Seattle area, they just keep coming! I went all out and took my friend and myself here around 2:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. This is inside a small section of a building called The Ayer, and the inside is already kinda fancy with the fancy-ish lighting, limited interior seating, expansive outdoor seating and merchandise of their own on a table near the ordering counter. It feels like a high-end cafe without all the noise of people talking since the area is slightly secluded from downtown Seattle itself. For this particular visit, there are three fall-based drink offerings in addition to their regular menu that consists of many of their signature matcha drinks and even regular coffee. Servers were pretty patient with us as they answered some of our questions on the menu. My friend and I each got a 16-oz banana matcha latte to try. The matcha tones were diluted, and I like my matcha strong as other matcha competitors around Seattle have been doing. It's not to say the floral and grassy tones weren't there, but the banana puree overwhelmed the drink to a point where I couldn't distinguish the matcha after downing half of it. I was really happy that this had oat milk as the default though, for someone who is slightly lactose intolerant. I also got a jasmine matcha cloud for my sis to try, and although I did not get a sip of the drink myself, she said that she could only taste the jasmine tea and nothing else. Looking back at the drink, it consisted way more of the jasmine tea than the matcha and milk combined. In turn, there was a much smaller layer of matcha compared to the jasmine tea itself. I realized this isn't a one-off thing; their matcha tones are lacking in their drinks. This spot wouldn't be a go-to location for me when I'm looking for matcha but I can see this spot being pretty nice for those who want an introduction to matcha itself or don't particularly like it as much. I'll stick to nearby places like Nana's Green Tea for now.

Overall I liked this matcha space, I'm not a huge matcha fan yet (def prefer when it has a flavor like strawberry or something) which made me really like the strawberry matcha here. It's def one of the stronger strawberry taste and sweeter matcha I've had in the area and so one of My favorites. I really didn't like the banana matcha but banana flavored things aren't usually my fav and wasn't my order. Service was nice, small spot but nice cute and bright.

Vale Matcha is a great place to meet and catch up with friends. Came here one afternoon on a cloudy day, and a pumpkin spice Matcha latte was just what I needed. The price is on par with all the other Matcha place. The Matcha latte has rich flavor and pairs with pumpkin spice well. The best part is that there are comfy couches upstairs for seating. The staff were friendly and quick. The downside is that they don't use ceramic mugs even if you drink there. Even the paper cup has plastic lining; would be nice to have the option to limit microplastic exposure.

    Matcha drink samples!

Matcha shops are popping up everywhere downtown; Vale Matcha is one of the latest additions to South Lake Union, taking over the old Voxx SLU coffee location. Vale Matcha doesn't serve just your regular matcha latte; they've got everything from earl grey matcha to jasmine matcha to banana matcha latte to strawberry matcha and more. What even makes them more unique is that they have a Matcha Cart outside where they have a barista making matcha drink samples on demand (they plan to bring the cart inside the café once the weather gets cooler). They even have matcha on tap and catering at events! Super cool! My friend and I came on a weekday during our lunch hour and were surprised that there was no line at the cart. And so we basically had a private matcha cart and barista for 10 minutes, sampling all of their different seasonal menu drinks. My favorite drinks were the OAT MILK BANANA MATCHA LATTE and the KYOTO CLOUD (earl grey with matcha cream topping ) - which are the two drinks that my friend and I ended up getting full-sized drinks of. The OAT MILK BANANA MATCHA LATTE was sweet, smooth, and had strong banana flavor. The KYOTO CLOUD was deeply steeped and thus had strong floral bergamot flavor. I'll admit that it overwhelmed the matcha quite a bit, but the cloud texture was a nice textural complement. Their matcha drinks are pretty pricey (but comparable to other matcha places in Seattle) going for at $7-$9 for a 16-oz drink, not including tax and tip. Additionally, while their drinks are innovative, I found the matcha somewhat dilute. I'll have to try their regular matcha latte next time so that I have a better baseline to compare to. With that all said, the Vale Matcha cart is a unique experience worth stopping by if you have a chance and want to experience different flavors you can't find at your typical coffee or matcha shop. However, if you're looking for the best pure matcha in Seattle, I'd probably go to Nana's Green Tea instead. Overall: 3.5/5 for matcha, 5/5 for service, 5/5 for atmosphere

So many matcha spots are popping up around Seattle and this one seems to just be capitalizing on the hype. The problem with this spot is that the matcha doesn't taste like matcha. The color of the matcha has a brown yellow hue so I'm guessing the quality of matcha they use in their lattes isn't that good. While the drinks aren't bad, they lack the distinctive bitter, floral, vegetal notes that matcha provides. I've tried the banana matcha oat and the matcha strawberry and both of them lacked matcha flavor. The jasmine matcha cloud was the same case where the only flavor I got was jasmine. I tried tasting the matcha cloud by itself, and the matcha was so light I don't know if I was actually tasting it or imagining things. While I didn't like the drinks, the service was nice and the vibes of the cafe were good. The cafe seemed to be set up more for coffee rather than matcha since I saw an espresso machine but no matcha bowls or whisks, so maybe try the coffee instead if you come here and you'll get a fresher more flavorful drink.

Most people have claimed this is the best matcha spot and it's easily up there among the top. Visited on a Friday morning just before rush hour. Lots of people were already seated working and a ton started lining up after us. Honestly surprised the wait hasn't died down more. Not sure what the cup sizes are, but there is a small and large. I'd guess small around 12oz and large around 16oz, but unsure because they like to use the shorter, stubbier cups. Price is steep. Oat milk still costs extra and is not priced in. Sweetness can't be lowered. Most matcha drinks have set sizes and no flexibility. Those are some of the main downsides. Beyond that, everything such as ambiance, coziness, third space vibes, and quality are upsides. Banana Pudding Matcha Latte - this drink is so good. Matcha super smooth, complementing the banana pudding with a soft texture. Matcha is a bit on the sweeter side and cannot be unsweetened, but caters to the general majority. Banana flavor elevates that sugar a bit more but not overly so. Definitely more of a dessert but also a hefty $11 price point. Strawberry Matcha Latte - while the matcha is again smooth, whisked well, and umami, the strawberry jam is nothing special. I personally see strawberry matcha as the older, safe choice for those who disliked the bitter or grassy tones of matcha. Similar idea here, which I think detracts from the quality of the matcha here. Would skip this for any of the other drinks.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the overall presentation of the shop really adds to the experience. Between the quality drinks, clean aesthetic, and great service, Coffeeholic checks all the boxes for a solid coffee spot.

I found it very delicious and light and refreshing. If you're looking for a Matcha, the Matcha flavor isn't very strong and it mostly tastes like an earl grey latte, but it is delicious and creamy. I ended up coming back and getting it again but with extra Matcha foam for additional Matcha flavor. Absolutely loved this drink. I also got a Matcha latte with black sesame cold foam. I've had a black sesame Matcha from somewhere else before, and the sesame flavor was very light, so that was what I was expecting, but was met with a very strong sesame flavor. I was not a huge fan as it felt overpowering and I couldn't taste the matcha. However, this is just a personal preference thing and if you like black sesame you should definitely try it! I'm not sure what much they used, but it didn't taste like the best quality, but it is still delicious and their drinks are all fun . The inside is small but and warm and cozy and they do have some seating. I was always able to find a spot. Super cute place with very sweet baristas.

What's amazing is theres no acidic taste ruining your beverage , just a smooth euphoric rush of caffeine coursing through your body. I normally get an iced latte to get my geyser gushing but a straight shot does happen occaisionly. Outside of the superior taste the caffeine kick back is like a NASA ROCKET BOOSTER piloting Artemis II... Now the hired hands are fined tuned & trained baristas extracting the brown juices from local roasted beans. BTW VIVACE roasts its own coffee, specializing in a Northern Italian style developed by founder David Schomer since 1992... This is why you'll love its taste... VIVACE's interior space is very large for small & medium size gatherings with a hipster eclectic taste of furnishings. Also beware free WiFi if you're a lounge lizard is available... During good weather days outside seating is available for the rare days the gods allow Seattle sun to shine down upon us. Table & chairs on sidewalk allows you front row seating to the freak show for entertainment. Not much more to say, so grab a shot of caffeine!

The espresso itself is mostly crema, really well done and not something I have found many places outside of Italy they definitely know what they are doing. Plenty of seating and places to work if you want to work there and they also sell pastries and take home items like beans, mugs, espresso cups etc. Definitely worth a visit if you are local in the Seattle area or visiting. Parking on broadway is a bit hit or miss but you can usually find a spot either on the main street or a nearby side street.
