Attic had been ignored for years. It was one of those places nobody really thinks about until something feels off in the house. Lately the upstairs rooms always felt dusty and the temperature kept changing a lot, cold at night and warm during the day. Someone suggested checking the attic and once it was opened it was pretty obvious the insulation was very old and the space needed a real cleaning. Team came out and took their time looking around first. They explained what they were seeing and why the old insulation was not really doing its job anymore. There was a lot of buildup, old insulation, dust, and just years of stuff sitting in the attic. Once they started removing everything it was kind of surprising how much came out. Whole attic was cleaned out properly before anything new went in. They also pointed out a few small openings where air was getting in and sealed those while they were up there. After that the new insulation was installed and the difference started to show pretty quickly. Upstairs already feels more comfortable and the house keeps the temperature much better. Air feels cleaner too, which was something that was noticed almost right away. One thing that stood out was how careful they were during the process. They covered areas they were walking through and cleaned everything before leaving so there was no mess left behind. Attic cleaning and insulation is probably one of those things people forget about until it becomes a problem. Looking back it probably should have been done earlier, but really glad it finally got taken care of. Wow! Impressive... our initial interview was most thorough with details and specification of the high quality materials that were to be used, as well as the efficiency of accomplishing our whole 1,100 sq-ft crawl space in one-day. On the Day of work.... They showed up on time. The first priority was to protect my house by building a plastic tunnel from crawl space to the front door. The whole crawl space was completely cleaned and cleared by lunch time, and all of the insulation was neatly packaged in garbage bags and piled in my front yard. During lunch Ron took these to the transfer station. The afternoon was spent installing new high quality insulation, wrapping pipes and ductwork, and laying down and sealing the new visquine, at 4:30 they were done. Tom was very helpful in assessing the state of my crawlspace and providing a competitive bid with decent warranties. Ron and his crew were punctual and professional. Interacting with Ron was a great experience: he described in advance what they were going to do and when, and followed up with status updates and photos throughout the day. All the folks working on the crawlspace project were courteous, and they finished the job quickly and at high quality. At the end of the process, I went into the crawlspace myself, where Ron by my side described what they had done, and what to watch out for in the future. The finished work looked neat and clean, and all odors and prior mess were completely gone. Attic Star was professional, responsive and did excellent work. When we bought our house the inspector turned up an issue with the crawlspace. Rodents were no longer in the space but had been previously. They had left scent as well as tearing up the vapor barrier and insulation. The damage wasn't terribly but it would need to be replaced. After three estimates I landed on Attic Star. They were not the cheapest but they had the best credentials, the best warranty and felt the most honest. I look for the best bang for buck at good quality and they felt like it. On the job Eric Libert and his team sealed up a pathway from the back door to the crawlspace properly to ensure no insulation they cleaned out was left in the house. It was all bagged up as it left too. Eric managed their workspace well and they kept things tidy. About halfway through they uncovered a bit of black mold that they suggested would need to be taken care of. Attic Star said they could do the job and managed to work it out on the same day as a crew with mold remediation supplies was nearby. It was an extra charge as it was a new service but the price, again a little high, was reasonable and the fact they they could get it done same day made it worth it to me. So why only four stars? Confusion around payment. On the initial inspection and quote I was told by Tom that the bill would be 3% less than quoted if I paid cash. This was not actually the case. The case is that there is a 3% charge on top of the quote if using a card. With these services that is not a small amount of money and it was definitely not conveyed well. While the charge is 3% less it it NOT 3% less than quoted. It's worth noting that adding a charge for using a card is illegal in ten states because of this type of confusing. It isn't in Washington (yet) but this point of confusion and frustration amongst otherwise great service was unfortunate. I would recommend Attic Star for their work and craftsmanship. The team I had out here was awesome. Just be aware that the price is 3% higher than quoted if you pay with card. read more
