We stopped here for dinner during the very busy St. Augustine Nights of Lights. I wish I could give this place a higher rating, but the food was lackluster and the prices were tourist-inflated. The gyro combo I had was uneventful, a small portion considering the dinner hour. The accompanying salad (served on the same plate) was ok. Wife enjoyed her moussaka, older son's chicken kebab was passable. Maybe during another time of the year it might of been a better experience, but Nights of Lights in general was not a festive experience for us...St. Augustine needs to provide some more genuine holiday spirit and lighten up on the trolleys. read more

This restaurant uses poor quality food. My friend got sick after eating here. They serve bad produce. My salad was pretty bad. Old tasting olives, they served us the end of the head of lettuce and our salads were bitter. The tsaziki tasted good though. Overall the food was abc tasted bad due to poor quality and I'm pretty positive my poor friend got food poisoning. I told the manager about the lettuce and he said there was nothing he could do. There are plenty of much better places. We had stellar food at the Floridian the night before and Prohibition Kitchen. Try somewhere else! read more

3 & 1/2 stars really. I don't care for Greek food, despite being part Greek. I wasn't looking forward to coming here but was pleasantly surprised. The service was great and the food was quite good. The Gyro combo among other dishes were not only tasty but very filling I'd recommend asking for salad dressing on the side or you'll have a BP oil spill on the bottom of your plate. read more

The place was really neat. It was in the middle of the town center. We had lunch and the service was just a little slow. Not bad though. What we had was really delicious. I had the chicken souvlaki sandwich and my fiancé had a lamb gyro. We also split a lemon chicken and rice soup. The soup was piping hot and a huge bowl. The lamb gyro and souvlaki both had tender meat and lots of sauce, lettuce and fresh tomato. It's a small place. Only complaint is that the fries we ordered for my son were hard as rocks. The Pastitsio here was tasteless, overcooked and with a paper-thin bechamel top. Salad was blah oily with no vinegar. Dolmathes were underspiced tasted like the canned ones you can get at a grocery. Nothing at this place hinted at the incredible joy that is Greek cuisine. Very disappointed. Service was good, considering there was no other diners at the time. you would only expect that. My wife and I both love Greek food. We order the hummus appetizer it was good but I have had better store bought hummus. I ordered the greek salad and she ordered a chicken and rice soup to go along with our Gyros. My salad was rather bland and as one reviewer stated before had a lot of oil on it. My wifes soup looked and tasted like something out of a can. The Gyros were equally disappointing. The meat was supposed to be beef and lamb. What we got was some very dry processed meat that I guess contained beef and lamb. Over all it was a very disappointing meal. In there part of saint Augustine there are plenty of great restaurants. They feel here is very traditional with Greek music playing and even all the servers looked as if they were Greek. All of the plates seemed very authentic and offered good serving sizes. I ordered the gyro wrap after having seen how large the actual gyro looked I decided to go with the wrap. I'm not a picky person so I'd say the gyro wrap was delicous! This is solely based on the experiences ive had here with my family and i. Being local ive had the pleasure of enjoying athenas restaurant many times in the last year or so since we discovered it. Every time we go we order the basic gyro and it is huge and filling and always on point as far as flavor goes. The servers have always been polite. I have had so much greek food in my life and it hits the mark for me, although i havent tried much else on the menu other than desserts. Sad to see that the quality is reportedly going down as i have not been since somewhere around the new year. Good luck to this little gem they are capable of so much more. read more

The eggplant parm and chicken parm are delicious. The waiter, Peter, is annoying. He's not friendly, he stares at you while you eat, he only gave refills to 2 of the 3 people at our table. Quality of food has gone down hill over the years. I usually go here for the corned beef hash, eggs and fried potatoes. It used to be alot better a few years ago. Portions are really small these days, potatoes were practically raw last time, egg whites uncooked and runny, orange juice was hot, screaming kids running around all inside restaurant unchecked, ice water had three cubes of ice in it and was actually warm water. I think they monitor how much wine you order and just want to slam guests in and out as fast as they can get you in and out. Was really disappointed and embarrassed that my guests had such a bad experience. Recently my friend got robbed in the park after ordering a sandwich and fries here. He think someone in the restaurant saw the money in his wallet or that he dropped the money from his wallet and they don't know anything in restaurant when he went back. Beware! Underwhelming food and service. The food (mousaka and pastitsio) were bland --- the bechamel sauce did not taste fresh , though the marinara was okey. Service was poor. Our server did not bother to mention any specials but did not fail to do so for every group that came after us. Server also did not bother to check on our small party of 3 (2 adults and one child) during the entire time we were there despite the fact that it was not at all busy when we were there. Someone was busy scrubbing the wall/mural, though the time might have been better spent cleaning the booths. There was a small roach-looking creature crawling on our booth seat. I was not very impressed with this place. We came into the restaurant because it looked busy as we walked by, and generally, a busy restaurant is a good restaurant. Our server was inattentive, and although the place was full of patrons, there were also four waitstaff. The prices were on the high side, as in $15 - $20 per plate average, although our drinking cups were plastic, and we ate off a plastic tablecloth. The cleanliness of the place leaves a lot to be desired. I had the pastitsio, which came with a bowl of marinara sauce on the side. The dish was good, although the bowl of sauce provided neither a beautiful nor tasty addition. My husband had the gyro combination. The gyro was nothing but a pile of dried out lamb piled on top of two pieces of pita bread. It had no toppings, and was not even assembled as a gyro. It did come with a little plastic cup of too-thick tzaziki sauce. We left this restaurant $40 less in our pockets, and still hungry. Two stars for a very nice location in a beautiful city. read more
