They don't do the hibachi "show" but everything was tasty and cooked perfectly. Our service was fast and efficient. We ordered filet and chicken hibachi combo which is served with fried rice and veggies, plus your choice of soup or salad and 2 shrimp. I asked if I could sub noodles for the fried rice, they don't permit substitutions so I ordered a side of the noodles and they were perfect. Atami also offers steak served on an 800 degree stone that cooks at your table. We will definitely be back. read more

I first found this restaurant when I placed a door dash order from a different restaurant that ended up getting canceled by the other restaurant. This one came up as a suggested alternative so I thought I would give it a try. I'm glad I did, because it was a great door dash experience. And it was so good that I decided to visit in person shortly after. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is in a strip mall in a busy area off route 30 in Irwin. It is pretty unassuming, but the inside is well maintained and kept clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It has the look a lot of other Japanese places have - dark wood and lots of blue with semi low lighting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] One thing to note is that they do have hibachi entrees, but this isn't a place that does the "shows" and cooks at your table. Service was great. We were greeted and sat quickly, questions were answered and our server was attentive and friendly. They have a pretty standard Japanese/sushi menu. But they also have lunch specials and some special rolls and entrees. They even have some thai entrees which was a bit surprising. We tried several rolls and appetizers. The presentation was great and the rolls had a lot of flavor. Quality was fresh. My son had the hibachi chicken and loved it. Portion size was also great. Found another sushi gem, while away from my home dining area I was feeling adventurous and craving sushi turned out to be a delicious decision. The sushi was very good and there was something interestingly unique with each roll. Then it hit me, the rice was a bit sweeter than any other sushi restaurant I've had in the past. This may not be as traditional or possibly it's more traditional I'll leave it to those who've travelled to the source of sushi, but it was great for my taste buds. First time here. Dined on a Friday night and it wasn't very busy. Ordered a stone entree. The food was good. You basically cook your own dinner. (I like my steak med rare so I asked for an extra plate so it didn't overcook.) Service was AWFUL...the worst I had in a long time! The waitress was very unfriendly, she came with our drinks we weren't ready to order and then she disappeared for 20+ mins, she never came to check on our table after dinner was served, did not explain what the serving sauces were or how the stone works/cooking your food, and we waited over 20 minutes for our check! The the white tuna appetizer was drenched in some type of soy sauce/vinegar mixture and was not worth it. We ordered the hot stone meal, which I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Atami Japan offers a pleasant surprise in Japanese style food that easily surpasses the chain "Hibachi" steakhouses you see in strip malls across America. Atami offers the standard hibachi style dinners and dinner combinations but where it differentiates itself is in their "SteakStone" entrees. SteakStone refers to a 800°f stone served to you with your choice of meat ready to cook. We thought this might be a bit of a gimmick but in practice, it results in meat cooked exactly to the temperature you desire and makes for an interesting and fun meal. Atami also offers a large selection of sushi and sashimi as well as Thai dinners and Bento Box lunches. We have never been disappointed in the quality of the food at Atami, with the ginger salad, miso soup and tempura appetizer all being excellent starters. For the main courses, the quality of the steak is also excellent and the sushi variety and quality also very good considering the location and price. Food is decent here, but nothing to go crazy for. The yum yum sauce and teriyaki both taste interesting and different from other hibachi joints. Different isn't always good. Three of us ordered takeout hibachi meals and 5 sushi rolls, which gave us a rather hefty bill. For the money, we could have gone to Yokoso and had a mountain of food, cooked to perfection twice and still had leftovers. They gave a small helping of everything, including the rice and veggies. The steak was cut up into about 8 little pieces, the chicken had about 12. It just wasn't a great experience paying that amount of money to get a meal that could have easily been duplicated from the stir fry bags at Giant Eagle. I'll be sticking with Yokoso from now on. Edit: I'll give an additional star as I forgot to comment on their sushi. We got a few eel, a spicy crab and a couple deep sea bomb rolls. Not bad but not really good either. It felt like a diner mixed with an Asian steakhouse. Unfortunately much more diner than steakhouse. FYI there is no "live" Hibachi at this place if that is what you are looking for. That didn't matter to us but I did find it surprising as it was advertised as a "hibachi Japanese steakhouse". We had an app (Tuna Kabarcho) and a chef roll (Pink Penguin Roll) to start. The Kaparcho was odd. It was almost too cold and did not feel like you were eating prepared food. I'd compare it more to eating leftovers right out of the fridge the next day. The taste was ok, but nothing that I would come back for. The Pink Penguin Roll was good, probably the best item we had. For dinner, we shared "Romancing the Stone for Two" which is raw food that you cook on an "800°" stone while it is in front of you. The stones are hot, there is no doubt and there are plenty of warnings and an age restriction (13+) for ordering. It was an interesting setup and akin to the broiler plates you are served at high-end steak houses. The fault here is that their booths and setup are not meant for people to be sharing items across these dangerous plates. It would be fine for a single serving dish but not for handing items back and forth like we were required to. It also was nothing more than getting several raw pieces of protein and cooking it on a hot skillet in your house with ZERO extra flavors or seasoning. For $50 you get a petite sirloin filet, a thin slab of chicken breast (my phone is thicker), 3 scallops (sliced in the middle and presented as 6 thin medallions), 6 medium shrimp, and 4 sides (2 each). The food was just bland like you would open a pack from the supermarket and throw it on a lightly salted hot slab. No extra seasoning or flavor. We were given some oil with roasted garlic (out of a jar precooked, not fresh), some of that typical Asian seafood sauce you get with hibachi, and ketchup as our condiments. The sides were equally bland and disappointing. The fried rice had a hint of fried egg mixed in with some purple onion. The asparagus had a 1/3rd of the portion filled with pieces you would typically disregard. The mashed potatoes look microwaved. The house fries were plain unseasoned steak fries you can get in the freezer section. Lastly, I will say that the atmosphere and ambiance were nothing more than a strip mall restaurant. The place is wide open and provides no privacy to people as they eat. I could hear the entire conversation of the couple sizing two tables down. The TVs were blasting evening news behind the empty bar. You can also see straight through from the entrance to the rear of the place as there are no divisions or partitions. As you dine, you get to see every person that stops in for their takeout order. The staff was one waitress and one chef at the sushi bar. The waitress was polite but she barely spoke and seemed to be distracted handling the orders & drinks of the 3 groups (2 couples and a party of 4), while simultaneously answering the portable phone she had attached to her hip and the front counter. The phone periodically ringing (surprisingly fun as she is handing you an "800°" stone plate...) also hindered the atmosphere. It was pretty dead for 5 pm on a Friday night too. Ordered spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls through uber eats earlier. Spicy tuna was a warm runny liquid texture and stank of a fish market. I couldn't eat the entire roll; I ate two out of the six pieces of the roll and threw the rest away. The spicy salmon was ok but it was also room temperature and very squishy. Extremely bummed especially because it was 25.00 after it was said and done for basically one mediocre sushi roll. I can only imagine the spicy tuna sat out at the sushi bar where the chefs prepare it for hours and that is why it was disgusting. Will not be ordering sushi from there again. read more

I will start by saying this review is based on delivery only! Their sushi is by far the best I've had locally. Tuna is so creamy and delicious, I'd recommend the Sushi Nami with salad (the soup was nothing to write home about). My husband ordered steak teriyaki and enjoyed it as well. My husband got a grilled steak hibachi dinner. The decor is beautiful with low lights. It is larger inside than what it appears to be. The service was excellent. Staff greet you on entry and are very attentive. Here is my only complaint. There was loud modern country music playing. When I say loud, I am talking loud enough to be in a bar. I do not like that style of music , and it seemed out of place in a Japanese restaurant. We would eat here again but only if it were not so loud. It's not your typical hibachi, they don't cook it in front of you although they do have an option of black rock cooking. Inside was very warm and welcoming and so was the staff. This place is great. Had a fried shrimp roll as an appetizer, delicious, then the soup which was extremely flavorful, and then the lobster and filet hibachi meal. The steak and lobster was cooked to perfection, the fried rice and vegetables were cooked just right, the only thing I can somewhat complain about which took one star away from my review was this sweet glaze sauce the put over the steak and lobster, not too crazy about it as it is too sweet. I had the Surf & Turf. It came served mostly raw on two stones at 800 degrees. They can cook it for you at your table. I opted to cook it myself.
