    General Tso's Chicken Dinner Special
    Sam J.

General Tso's chicken was below average. Coating was ok not too breaded but chicken was terrible. Small pieces that were dried out. Fried rice was decent. Wonton soup was below average as well. Broth was ok but wontons were tasteless. If there was a filling inside I never tasted it. I'm glad I asked for extra green onions or it wouldn't have had a taste at all. Service wise order came on time but they double charged me. Doubt I'll be ordering again.

Beef and Broccoli with Fried Rice.

Get the wings. They were bussin af. Especially with the Mumbo sauce. They come in a separate fee with fries or rice. But get the fries.

Broccoli and garlic sauce with the ugliest veggie spring roll ever
    Mark H.

Tried it again but no meat this time... just broccoli in garlic sauce and veggie fried rice and spring roll. Rice was good. Broccoli just ok... And very spicy. Spring roll I was afraid to eat... See the pictures.

The best food in the area. Very kind staff and very affordable. My favorite thing to order is the shrimp fried rice!

My lo mein was amazing. The sesame chicken was great too. It was made quickly and we had enough to eat for 2 days

My fave local Chinese spot. The food always gets here still hot, delicious, and exactly how I ordered it.

Really really solid American Chinese food. I almost always get the General Tso's chicken with chicken lo mein. Fast service.

And we even got a cute little Valentines gift. I can't say enough nice things about our server - she was so great. Sitting at the sushi bar was neat as we got to see everything being made. We also got to try some complimentary bites. Great experience! The cocktails were crazy good. Everything we ordered was delicious. The salmon usuzukuri was so good we ordered it twice. The Kobe baller was another standout. The scallops were also fantastic. Such a yummy meal! Highly recommend! We will definitely be back.

But honestly, the experience didn't quite live up to the hype. My sister enjoyed her drink, but the rock shrimp was a letdown. It tasted overly oily with barely any sauce. We were hungry, so we didn't send it back, but it definitely wasn't worth it. The sushi overall was just okay, which was surprising--I expected it to be amazing. That said, my last tuna roll (can't remember the exact name) was actually really good--about an 8.5/10. The service was decent. Q made sure we were taken care of, but he did seem a bit annoyed by some of our questions. We asked about the 4% wellness charge since we'd never seen that before (and I consider myself a foodie). Apparently, it goes toward health and medical benefits, which is different from the usual service charge. I will say, the space itself is beautiful with a very relaxed vibe. I also had no idea there was an upstairs, which was a nice surprise.

It was a nice upgrade to my usual draft beer selection. I had two rolls and both were excellent. The spicy tuna avocado roll was superb and the yellowtail scallion roll was fresh and very tasty. I added a third roll, called the Alaska. It was a great combination and was the perfect way to end a celebratory evening. The service is always the star of the night at Sushi Hachi! My server was attentive and quick while looking calm and zen throughout. The managers/owners each stopped by the table and we talked about the neighborhood and I felt a connection to my Capitol Hill community. All-around it was an outstanding evening. After many accolades and Michelin nods, it was an honor to dine at Sushi Hachi. Here's our experience. 1) Food: To start, we ordered the miso soup and edamame. Both were full of flavor and well prepared, especially the edamame. Sometimes the ones from the grocery store can be slimy. These are not. They are perfect. To eat, I got the shrimp tempura, Chicken Kara-age, and the 8th Street sushi. My wife ordered the Chef's Sushi Platter and swore she will crave the Yellowtail Cilantro Roll. Our daughter enjoyed the California Roll. 2) Drinks: Their cocktails hit each end of the liquor spectrum. My wife enjoyed their Manhattan. The Summer cocktail was a tad sweet, which I found refreshing and unique. 3) Service: It's excellent. The timing, warmth, and attention to our daughter was spot on. 4) Space: It's simple yet inviting inside one long dining room with the sushi counter in the way back. 5) Area: Along Barracks Row, Sushi Hachi is near many other restaurants and local shops. One of the oldest military bases in the country is across the street. There's street parking- paid and free- throughout the neighborhood.
