Expensive doesn't always translate to good taste, both decor-wise and food-wise. The weird plant and moss displays were borderline tacky. The food looked great but lacked flavor and texture. The signature duck looked amazing coming out with the show (fire and smoke) but skin was not crispy at all. It was very oily and didn't taste good. The smoke duck was good but we didn't get so much of it. The griddle pancake was not freshly made. It was still cold in the middle so I think it was frozen then reheated. For a restaurant that charges this price, it should all be freshly prepared. The fish dish cost almost $100 but it was just talapia covered in batter and tasted a little fishy. Will not be returning. Bistro Na is a better choice for higher end Chinese dining. read more

For our table of six, we ordered the Peking duck with a show, short rib platter, okra, deep-fried shrimp, green beans, intestines, stir-fried noodles, and a special bowl of longevity noodles. This is a good restaurant that has terrible business practice. We had been meaning to check this place out and the $39 flambe duck promotion looked great. We called to make a reservation, including securing a duck, mentioning we wanted the $39 special promotion. We were told this promotion is dine-in only, with $69 minimum table charge. Upon arrival, we were seated and mentioned to our server that we had called earlier to reserve the duck and wanted the $39 promotion. Our server asked if we wanted "a show", which means tableside carving. That was fine for us, but nothing was mentioned about a price difference. Receiving our bill, the charge was full $98 menu price for the duck. Only then were we told the promotion excludes tableside carving - something not mentioned in their signage, not mentioned by their hostess or the server. Asking to speak with the manager, they refused to honor their advertised price. One is left with the unsettling feeling of being cheated at a tourist spot while on vacation. I had left the discussion to my wife as she speaks Mandarin. Only later, I came to learn how incredibly condescending and chauvinistic the manager was to her, stating it was her fault for not asking if the price was different. It's a shame they conduct their business this way - it could be be a good place and a recommended destination to check out. Mediocre food and horrible service. Nothing a single dish at the restaurant stood out. Most of the food was bland and uninspiring. Beef short ribs had no flavor whatsoever. They give you 4-5 accompanying sauces and spices, none of which pairs well with the meat. The duck was recommended by the waiter. It was below average. The skin was not crispy and the duck had no flavor. Crispy shrimp was decent. Maybe the only dish that was not a complete fail. I cannot remember the other dishes but after a while I just gave up on this meal and stopped taking pictures. Service was even more horrendous than the food. Every dish took a long time to come out. We ordered a soup dish that never came out. We got to the restaurant at 6:30 pm, by 8:15 pm the soup still did not come out. We tried to cancel the soup when we paid the bill. The restaurant would not let us cancel the soup order because they started to prepare it. It took over 1.5 hour to prepare soup, that is ridiculous. Overall the only thing that was pleasant about the restaurant is the decor. There is nothing else that I would recommend. read more

I made a dinner reservation for my mom's birthday - it seems you can only do this over the phone, not online. We ordered: + SHANGHAI SWEET & SOUR SPARE RIBS: came out lukewarm, and was just mid. I think Din Tai Fung's version is better and more tender! + DUNGENESS CRAB: we picked the "Typhoon Shelter Style" which is basically a fried garlicky version with a lot of crumbs. Good but they didn't provide a crab leg/seafood cracker utensil until we ask. I feel like this should have been a given. + GARLIC PEA SPROUTS: this was probably my favorite dish, simply stir fried with garlic but very well made. + YANGZHOU FRIED RICE: just tasted like normal fried rice, I would skip this in favor of the claypot pork vegetable fried rice. I think for a restaurant that's branded to be "Chinese fine dining" I just expected to be blown away by the flavors of each dish. My mom & I felt like the flavors were comparable to a lot of Chinese restaurants in the area that are considered to be way more casual. Service was also quite slow and forgetful. The service was good. We order several dishes including the flaming duck. The flaming duck included the smoked duck and that was good 7/10. Other than that, we didn't think the quality of the food is the best compared to other $$$$ chineses restaurants I've been to. We ordered the wagyu fried rice. The meat was hard. I was really disappointed. The shrimp was okay, a little sweet/tangy. The sea bass in the sauce was a bit salty! Many of the dishes we ordered was on the sweet side. I don't go over to this side of town too often because I live in the Westside, but my friend invited me out to her birthday celebration at Array 36 and it was such a nice restaurant! It felt a little bit like a speakeasy, especially considering the outside was pretty inconspicuous. Walking in felt like we were entering an oasis. We were in a private room for the party, so it was nice having dinner, being able to BYOB, and having the option of karaoke at the end of the night. The service was super attentive. The food was also delicious, we had everything family-style. The star of the show was definitely the roasted Peking Duck and the whole fire show that came along with it. My favorite dishes of the night were the abalone with vermicelli, the thousand-year-old egg/avocado, the xiao long bao, all the meats (I loved the braised pork belly), and the mango soup dessert! The plating for the dishes was absolutely gorgeous. Definitely a memorable dinner. I also really loved the upscale restaurant decor. The bill wasn't bad at all - very affordable/reasonable pricing for the quality and presentation. Overall, I'll definitely be back. I think my Chinese family would really like this place. read more
