Bistro Na's is the immediate and most relevant comparison to Array 36. It's inferior in nearly all aspects to Bistro Na's. I've heard they spent upwards of $2 million on renovations and work visas for chefs from China. This restaurant looks the part (even if it's an over-designed mess trying to aim for Michelin-level prestige), but doesn't exactly taste the part. It's quite a magic trick when they can make Bistro Na feel homey and humble. Price-wise it is very expensive; most prices are on-par with Bistro Na's, other dishes are even more expensive. The duck is their signature dish, but is terrible. The skin is chewy and the wrappers too thick. Just go to Jirong, Duck House, or Dongpo instead. The shrimp (with the immediate comparison being Bistro Na's) are smaller and don't taste quite as good. Everything else is mediocre for its price. There really didn't need to be a second Bistro Na's type restaurant in this area. I'm not convinced of this restaurant's longevity because it lacks the tenure of other restaurants. Array 36 is an amazing fine dining Chinese restaurant. First impression upon walking in, the ambience and interior design was amazing. You can definitely tell this an upscale spot. This would be great for anniversaries, birthdays, meetings, any celebration honestly. Service was great and food came out fast. We got sat in a booth and the way it was designed/laid out made our experience feel very intimate and personal. We ordered a variety of dishes: braised pork belly, signature crispy shrimp in plum sauce, sous vide beef rib, okra, clay pot black cod, and a veggie plate. Everything was great. Standouts were the beef rib and crispy shrimp 10/10 Beef rib came with 4 different tasty dipping sauces, and a side of corn cheese which was actually very good. Super tender, juicy, flavorful and fatty. Worth the price tag!! Clay pot came with a show we were not expecting! Definitely a memorable dining experience. It was fabulous. Wonderful show as they flame it tableside. Skillful carving and plating chops. Skin is super crispy and not too fatty. You'll also get a plate with thinly sliced breast meat and another plate with a glass topper to "smoke" the other breast. It's a very classy show. Signature crispy prawns - done to perfection. The skin is so thin and crispy. Beef Short Rib - everyone will be fighting for this dish. It is literally melt in your mouth, chewing optional. Delicious. Claypot rice - You'll fight over this dish too. Very fresh and aromatic. The crispy bottom was perfection. Fried rice - good, but not as special considering the other dishes we ordered. Probably one of the few nicely decorated restaurant in SG valley. I went twice this week - for different reasons. First i will talk about the dinner. We went on a Saturday night, when we walked in we saw a bunch of people waiting, glad we made a reservation and was seated right away. When we sat down we noticed there are many empty tables, just not enough servers to clean it up and seat new guests. The place is noisier than i expect but still a nice place to dine when you compare to other chinese restaurants. Servers were attentive, courteous but seems to be quite busy all the time. There were no napkins at the table. Not even when they serve food. - 4 stars Food - i would give it 4 stars as well because we didnt order their banquet dishes for a regular night out for two. Food is tasty, fresh and seasoned well. We had a few appetizer dishes, and eel dish, a crab roe tofu and a shrimp dish. They all tastes good, except the tofu portion is a bit tiny. Good for one person. But my mom and i are small eaters so its alright. Shrimp is a must try. Just order it and you wont be sorry. Bill came out to $180 including tip. Not cheap for a regular night dinner by any means. - 4 stars Then i went with a group for a birthday lunch. The server was great and she was very attentive and made sure we were taken care of the entire time. When she realized they brought the main dish before our appetizer dishes, she quickly came and took it away and got our appetizers in right away. This time we had the duck, ($39 special right now so dont wait!) the pickled vegetable fish, braised pork belly, jelly fish, scallion chicken and sweet lotus. They all get a 4/5 stars. Nice presentation, decent portion size and tastes good. Overall its a pretty good restaurant. Nice interior, friendly and attentive staff, food is nicely done (with a twist of their own modernized way) as well. But for the price tag is it worth it? I think its a matter of what you're looking for when you dine. For celebration, banquets, formal gatherings and business meals it is a great choice to have chinese food with an elevated level. I'm Shanghainese so we tried 糖藕， 熏鱼， 水晶虾仁, all not up to standard. 酸菜鱼, 菜饭 and duck are ok. But duck side dishes portions were so small, if you ask for more, they will charge you $10. Had an amazing dining experience here for a friends birthday. We booked a private room, which had a minimum spend. Service was great and attentive, which I feel is rare when it comes to asian restaurants. Here is what we ordered - scallion oil chicken: served cold and boneless which was a plus, this was really good, the portion was pretty small though, everyone probably only got 1 piece - spicy numbing beef tripe: delicious, the sauce wasn't too numbing or spicy, everyone enjoyed this cold dish - fried spring roll with crab roe: this was okay, would probably pass next time - signature roast duck: this came with a cool table side fire show and was sliced there. The duck was juicy but I didn't feel like it was worth it. It comes three ways - just the duck skin dipped with sugar, the duck with the wrap, then lastly smoked. I think I prefer ji rong, crispier skin and they have the duck soup etc. - Alaska king crab: also served three ways. We decided to get it steamed with garlic and vermicelli, fried rice and the remaining crab stir fried with ginger and scallion. The steamed was my favorite, then the fried rice. - Shanghai sweet sour ribs: this was a pass from me, I wasn't a fan of the sauce - beef ribs: not sure what happen to ours, it looked kinda messy. I've seen pictures of the presentation looking better. The meat was tender but I preferred other dishes. - signature crispy prawns: really good and crispy, the sauce was sweet and complimented the shrimp. - braised pork belly with quail egg: one of my fav meat dishes of the night, the pork belly was so tender and the sauce was savory and flavorful. & for dessert, our group wanted to try everything so we ordered a few to share with the group. - mango sago pomelo: delicious, something light and refreshing after a big meal - glutinous rice ball: can't go wrong with a classic, came with 2 big rice balls with black sesame inside - bunny yogurt mousse: probably my least favorite out of the three, the sauce it came with was pretty sour, but the mousse itself was good. Overall we had a great dinner with our friends, although really pricey, the food was good. I would definitely return for special occasions and celebrations. Walking into Array 36, you might think you've hit the jackpot with its fancy vibes - it's like it's aiming for a Michelin star in looks. But once you dive into the food, this spot ends up serving a masterclass in culinary disappointment and deception. It's the perfect example of when looks not only deceive but downright betray your taste buds. First off, the House Special Smoked Pine-Plank Pork was a tough nut to crack, literally. You'd expect something tender, but it was more of a workout for your jaw. Then there's the Filet Mignon beef, which was swimming in a sauce so thick and salty, it was like the ocean water in a bowl. The biggest heartbreak was the Peking duck. It was supposed to be the star of the show, with crispy skin that snaps with each bite. But nope, it was as soft as if it had been left out in the rain. And to add insult to injury, the duck pancakes, a vital companion to the duck, were served dusted in flour so thick, you'd think it was a snow day at a bakery, not a dish at a posh eatery. This was such a baffling surprise, especially in a place that shoots for such high decor standards. Not everything was a total letdown, though. The Pickled Vegetable and Intestine Soup actually had something good going for it, salty but in a way that made you want more, not less. And those intestines? Surprisingly spot-on - soft, tender, and smell-free. Made me think, 'Why couldn't everything else be on this level?' It was a glimmer of hope in a meal that mostly had me wondering what went wrong. And just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, we had a chat with the waiter about why the duck skin was so disappointingly soft. His answer? "Yeah, because you only paid for the cheap version at $39. If you had gone for the full price $98, we would've served it fresh and crispy." So let me get this straight: the big, flashy $39 discount sign out front is just a lure to serve and entice customers with your second-rate, inferior food????? That's not just disappointing; it's outright laughable. It's the restaurant's job to make things clear, not to play bait-and-switch with the menu. What's next? "Oh, sorry, did you want the wine to taste good? That's in the next price bracket up." So, yeah, Array 36 is a mixed bag. It's got the style, no doubt, but when it comes to the food, it's like opening a beautifully wrapped present to find a pair of socks inside. Except, it turns out, if you want the good present, you need to pay extra, but they forgot to mention that until after the fact. Here's hoping they match up their taste with their looks soon. Good service. Food was okay. We didn't get the duck. I would say it was interesting seeing pepperoncini (aka pickled banana peppers) in the pickled fish soup.. Kind made it less fancy feeling but overall the taste and especially the fish texture was good. I didn't like 3 of the dishes we wanted were unavailable - shrimp dish, blueberry yams, and the durian pastry -- please don't have things that are not on the menu. I hope to be delighted, but there wasn't much of that. The food executed well and definitely need to pay a price for the ambiance (which TBH I was not as impressed, and somehow showing it's age and fit and finish issues) We decided to skip our Bistro Na's reservation for this. My husband surprised me with a dinner booking at this very expensive restaurant. Were the special beef ribs worth $88? They were tender, delicious and definitely special.... as were the other few dishes we could afford to order... BUT... if one is spending this much money on a "fine dining" experience, one would expect a level of service to match. At these prices, you would not expect to have your order sticky-taped to your table while you wait for your food, and have servers bring dishes to your table without bothering to describe the dish to you (e.g., what are the condiments, what you are about to eat - as they do in Western fine dining restaurants) or take 5 minutes to bring you an extra spoon, or never refill your glasses of water. There were a couple of servers who were more qualified and attentive than the others, but in general, the vibe was more like any other Chinese restaurant despite the fancy decor and exorbitant prices.
