Awesome spot for brunch on the weekends, it is a little pricey but the food is worth it. The choices are interesting and limited but that might not be the worst thing. I visited this one on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of summer. NYC has just come back 100% to normalcy a week ago. With this context, the staff still wear masks and are very courteous. The service needs to be applauded for their attention to detail. Food was next to the best and the most unique flavors of indian cuisine that i have had in a while. I have ordered their chola bhatura in which the chola was lip smacking and unique. Their appetizer quantity may not be as you may expect but it is apt to be called an appetizer. I also tried butternut squash based gravy with rice and paneer & chili kulcha bread on the side. The kulcha was a touch more spicy than expected however, me being the admirer of the green chillies and peppers, loved it. My friend and I managed to eat but our wives just couldn't. We had few more drinks and then it was Time to order entree and we ordered Paneer Tikka Masala- creamy sauce on tomato base, did not like it; Chicken Tikka Masala, pathetic, Lamb Curry was ok. How can an Indian Michelin Restaurant not make a good Chicken Tikka Masala, it ruined our dinner. Michelin rated and the presentation of the food wasn't good also. During our walk on a pleasant Sunday evening, we decided to have dinner at another Indian restaurant after having a wonderful experience at Junoon on Thursday. So we looked up and found aRoqa with a Michelin star in 2021 and decided to give it a try but it fell short on all key metrics. Service - We walked in and asked the host 'Carey' for a seat for 2. He asked if we have a reservation and we said no. He immediately said we only have high chairs and no normal table without checking the system for a seat. We walked out and my wife said let's yelp about it and we thought of calling a cab to go back to Junoon or Sona another Indian restaurant. While we were looking for Uber that Carey the host came out and said a patron just left and he will be able to clean the table and would we like to take it. We said sure and we were seated at a small table next to the exit door. The table was always there as no one left the restaurant during the few minutes we were outside. So very low marks on the service here. Comparing this to our experience at Junoon where we had the exact same conversation with the host. At Junoon, the host asked for our telephone number and took us to a table in the lounge area. My wife said that last time we sat inside and she would like to sit inside. He obliged and sat us in the inside dining room. Later I received a text that he made a reservation for us in the system to occupy the inside room on the fly. That's what is called service. Food - We ordered Chicken Biryani and Lamb Curry with Roti's. The server never told us that the Lamb curry comes with the rice so we had to leave it untouched. Lamb was tough and not succulent at all. Curry was nothing special either. Chicken Biryani was not a Dum Biryani but more like chicken curry mixed with rice which was not what we were expecting. We were expecting a dry Biryani and not wet curry rice. So definitely not a Michelin one-star standard and it will be difficult to come back again for this food. read more

It was incredibly tender and flavorful. For our mains, we ordered the Chicken Biryani and the Palak Paneer, which were both outstanding. All the food were served in really nice porcelain bowls and plates. The staff were polite and accommodating. This would be the type of food I'd visit NYC for. We came on a Sunday to celebrate my parents anniversary. We really enjoyed their brunch menu, which for 42/person comes with bottomless mimosas or champagne. What I liked was, unlike other restaurants, not every single person has to do the bottomless if they don't want. You can also order off of their regular menu if you'd like. We all did the brunch food, and ordered some apps. I got the Frankie rolls which were super good. Marinated well and packaged neatly in foil. My husband got the keema pav which was so so good. I tried to l trade dishes but he was enjoying it way too much to swap. The keema (ground lamb in this case) was seasoned to perfection and had some raw onion chopped on top for crunch and flavor. The keema comes with 2 pav (aka buns) and you can make some DIY sandwiches. We ordered the murgh chop and WOW , seasoned and grilled excellently. Great food and service! We went there for brunch and tried Aloo poori, Chole bhature and chicken frankie roll from the brunch menu. Loved the touch, taste and aroma. The breads although deep fried didn't feel oily at all. The portions are not too big and gives you a chance to try different dishes on offer. We also had the Kurkuri Bhel from their main menu and it was totally on point - crunchy and tangy. There were so many things that we wanted to try from the main menu and picking one was a bit difficult. We also had the coconut kheer which was rich and creamy and comes with a scoop of mango ice cream. There were plenty of options for the vegetarians. Came on a Friday after work. I found this restaurant on Facebook about 2 months ago and bookmarked it. This is a great place. Excellent customer service. The mixologist Persuad was AWESOME!!! His drinks were amazing. Very yummy and mixed well. The owner/manager extremely friendly and attentive to all guests. Loved the ambiance and the decorum. It's decent (nothing great but not bad either) but for the price ($23 for 3 pieces of small kofta) there are tonnes of better Indian restaurants. Before going here please compare the prices to Indian accent / junoon/tribeca tamarind/baar baar/dhamaka and so many more. They're all a tier above this in ambience and food. read more

Loved Aroqa! I came here with a BIG group of colleagues, initially 22 and then last minute went up to 25. From my first email and call with Monica (the owner who takes her diners' experience as if her own), everything felt so smooth and easy for me. Monica replied quickly, worked with my budget, and blocked off half the restaurant for us. She moved furniture around as well to fit all of us and still give us a space to socialize. Day of, everything was perfect! Aroqa is a well designed and beautiful space. The drinks are delicious but also so fun to watch! There is sage burning, glass smoking and all kinds of fun tricks and my guests were super entertained. Monica suggested passed starters so people could continue socializing and everyone loved that! The kebabs are to die for, bhel is delicious too and everything was served in fun formats. We sat for dinner and it felt like the food wouldnt end! Like a traditional indian host, Monica and her team made sure our plates were never empty :) In dessert I recommend the gulab jamun. so good! Its been more than 24hrs and we are still facing the burn in our stomach. highly recommend the chef to try the food before they send out to tables. ghost pepper is not a typical chili to play with. Not sure how many Michelin Star Indian restaurants are in NYC, but this happens to be one of them. Widely popular place with some inventive menu items and presentation. Friends hyped this restaurant up, but I found the flavors to be underdeveloped and lacking. Portions were super small (yeah, I get it - is a pretentious Michelin thing), but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be delicious. Service was clunky at best. Servers didn't even understand the menu items. At least get one of these right - - service or food; or how about both? Space was elegant and not like your typical Bollywood production lot.
