This was a cool experience. I tried the vegetarian tasting menu, which was full of creative fusion dishes. Tarts - the potato tart was spicy, and the tamarind date one was a bit tart and sweet. Both tarts were crispy and topped with some fresh herbs. Uttappam - also filled with a spicy potato filling. Eggplant - I enjoyed this one. The eggplant was a bit spicy and creamy, and the fried potato noodles added a great crunch. Paneer - great use of ingredients here. The tomatillo salsa was intensely tart, and contrasted nicely with the rich beurre blanc. Kombu over the top added a slight savory note. Jackfruit Roast - intensely creamy and spicy. I loved the flaky layered parotta on the side. Maitake - my other favorite dish. The maitake and huitlacoche mushrooms were deliciously savory. The korma gravy with corn was creamy, roasty, with a touch of sweetness to balance everything. The garlic naan on the side was fresh and buttery. Sorbet - a nice, intensely tart palate cleanser. Pistachio Nimish - salted pistachios, chai ice cream with the perfect texture, and a rose flavored ice over the top. Guava - a little candy to end the meal. Great fruit flavor. A Place in the Garden - this was a light and refreshing cocktail. I was hoping for a bit more strong herbal notes, but it was pleasant enough. I enjoyed my experience here overall, and it's a fair price for a tasting menu. The vegetarian option is about $125. My total for the meal, cocktail, tax, and tip was around $185.

I came here to an event in their private room downstairs. The decor is stunning!! The downstairs has a bathroom and coat rack. Our server George was attentive. I had a glass of wine. The food was delicious. They have plenty of vegetarian options. I had the roasted tofu as my entree. The appetizers were good but I forgot their names. The dessert was this apple sorbet thing that was incredible. Great vibes in here an equally as good food

Really want to give them a perfect 5, but their service was painfully slow, consistent with what many Yelpers have mentioned on their reviews. Getting reservations was a breeze, and the layout remains the same at this place, what was formerly Priyanka Chopra's failed venture - Sona. Katie got us seated and George was our host/waiter - who was pretty difficult to spot throughout our time here. Now that I am done complaining about the service, lets quickly get to the food which was absolutely fantastic. What to get? The standout dish of the evening was Jackfruit Ghee Roast ($30) - the most delicious Jackfruit dish I have every had. Creamy, spice balanced, and flavor packed. This with Malabar Parotha was a banger combination. Market Beets ($20) stood out in small bites, thanks to the delicious walnut chikki, and the smoked mayo sauce with Kolhapuri Chicken Bao was really tasty. Roasted Bombay Corn Ribs ($12) can be skipped, and so can the Biryani Chicken Wings ($16). Their seasonal cocktail - a Gin & Tonic with cucumber and mint was refreshing. Cocktails overall were enjoyable. We tried all their desserts which include a pistachio icecream, gulab jamun with coriander, and icecream sandwich. Desserts overall were an absolute letdown and I wouldn't recommend any of them. If you have an absolute sugar craving, go with icecream sandwich! If they figure out their service staffing, I see no reason why Passerine can't be a New York favorite. With a gifted chef who balances flavor so well, the core ingredient of this restaurant is up to the mark!

The service here stood out to me as did the overall decor and vibe of the restaurant. It has a large interior and we noticed that under the tables there was a padding of sorts we guessed were to manage noise and echo. To that point, despite it being very full, I never felt like I was shouting and could enjoy a comfortable conversation with my friend. The food itself was good, but a solid 4-stars (maybe 3.5) as I don't know if anything will be memorable for me long term. We got the Chicken Kofta, Aloo Dumpling, Crispy Cauliflower, Slow Roasted Cabbage, and Monkfish (plus garlic naan and rice). Out of everything, the amuse bouche and monkfish were the most memorable. For dessert we shared the Big Apple Gulab Jamun, which I found the perfect amount of sweet and refreshing. I have to say everything was plated and presented beautifully. I wanted to love this place, but the smaller plates we got didn't live up to how good that amuse bouche was. It was a very good, comfortable meal but should I return it'll likely be more for the ambiance and service.

Food was phenomenal! Every item we got was flavorful, unique, and mouth-watering. Unfortunately, Passerine seemed very understaffed the night we were there, which did affect our experience, so have to knock off one star. What we got: Red Lapwing mocktail - Similar to a Negroni, was very good Aloo Dumpling - Great and spicy, like an East Asian dumpling but with a South Asian twist Crispy Cauliflower - My favorite! Very flavorful and crispy/saucy Jackfruit Ghee Roast - Super unique. By the name we actually thought this was a dosa, but this is a curry. The jackfruit had a very interesting texture, and I loved that they included enough of the sauce to prevent this from being dry Yellow Daal Fry - Solid yellow daal, no complaints Fenugreek Thepla - Didn't get to try this since they ran out......They gave us roti instead Ambemohar Rice - Got this as a side for the curries and glad we did since the roti was not enough for our dishes Also, the amuse bouche they provide is GREAT! Vegetarian friendly? Yes lots of good options, and we enjoyed all of our dishes above! (our friends who got the meat dishes really enjoyed their dishes as well) Ambiance: Vibes were great, and good for date night or even groups if you want to try a bunch of items. We were in the dining room, but the "drawing room" area where you wait has some couches/tables in case you just want to grab a quick drink. Service: Our reservation was at 8:15PM and somehow they had run out of both a single malt whiskey and the thepla.... We also didn't get our cocktails until 8:45PM and didn't start getting our food until 9:30PM, (and we finally got all of our food around 10:00pm). All of our servers were very nice, and I usually never complain about the service, but the place was clearly understaffed. I think this must have been an off night, since their GM Zelda did come apologize and they did give us a free appetizer which was nice. Hopefully they either hire more people and/or this was an off night since the food really was phenomenal!

I came here for NYC restaurant week. The food was very good! The portion was a bit smaller, but everything was tasty. The highlight was definitely the desserts. They were incredible. Service was excellent. The restaurant was incredibly decorated and I loved how pretty the restaurant was.

Came here with a friend. I like that they give an amuse bouche and a dessert with everything. Both were very welcome. The channa masala panisse was probably the favorite of the night. Very flavorful and fun to eat. We also ordered the yellow daal fry, the monkfish curry, a garlic naan, and the half roasted chicken. Something that was surprising was how the garlic naan actually tasted best on its own, not being dipped into the sauces of the other dishes, which is quite different from other South Asian restaurants that I've been, too. I feel each dish actually tasted best on its own instead of being mixed together. Personally liked the monkfish curry the best, but also really enjoyed the lentils in the half roasted chicken, which was also very juicy and cooked well. I will note that you have to cut away the meat from the bone of the chicken yourself. We also got the ice cream sandwich dessert, which was well done. It's very subtle how they elevated this dish, but definitely worth getting. The service was quick and attentive, and the space itself was beautiful. They also have an area in the front that is well decorated when you are waiting to be seated or waiting for your party to come.

An upscale spot for contemporary Indian dining tucked into the heart of Flatiron -- we stopped by for Restaurant Week, so there was a pre-fixe menu which highlighted favorites from the usual dinner menus. The ambiance is lovely and the restaurant is spacious. It's a great spot for a celebration or for hosting parents if they're in town! The dishes were overall great -- the Monkfish Curry was a definite standout, packed some good heat and very unique. Both appetizers, the Shrimp and Channa Masala, were solid. I didn't feel strongly about the Big Apple Gulab Jamun but the Ice Cream Sandwich was great! My one knock is that service was really slow -- I understand a chill pacing for meals, but we were left waiting for a noticeable while between courses.

If you wanted a fancy night out around Flatiron area, Passerine is definitely up your alley. When you walk in, it'll be as though you've been transported to an upscale hotel in London. Perfect for those intimate gatherings, Passerine offers an open lounge, as well as a well stocked bar. Service was good but I think they were still working out the kinks. To be fair, my friend booked our reservation within the first month of Passerine's opening. Presentation was fabulous and keep in mind that you're paying essentially for that since most of the dishes are played up versions of the classic Indian dishes you would usually find. If you're looking for classic Indian flavors, this may not be it for you. However, for a fancy night out in town, this is worth the stop.

The easiest 10/10. Not only do Passerine's menu of worldly flavors pack a memorable punch, but their innovative cocktail (and mocktail) program is equally exquiste, with an abundance of concoctions to explore throughout the evening. Add to that the obvious fact that Passerine's owners designed their space with a meticulous eye combined with an earnest love for community and third spaces, and you simply can't go wrong with a night out here. Fave dishes: Monk Fish, Chicken Ghee Roast, Roasted Tofu. Fave beverages: Captivated, Captured, Mallard. Yes, take my word for it but DO go check it out ;-)

In the midst of the modern-Indian renaissance that NYC appears to be experiencing, Passerine is a standout option that exhibits an interesting menu, outstanding service, and great cocktails. The restaurant interior is incredibly well decorated and features warm colors and a welcoming atmosphere. The service was stellar, with Michelin-quality attentiveness and accommodation. Food highlights include the amuse bouche (complimentary!) and the lamb tartare. The lamb tartare was incredible, paired with to fried shiso leaves, it might be my favorite rendition of a tartare that I've ever had. Must order. The uttapam was stellar as well, in what turned out to be an uttampam taco-like creation (caviar available on top as a supplement). The mains had a bit less of a wow-factor, but still worthy of being on the menu. I think I'd reorder the roasted cabbage if I came again. If you come here (and you should), I'd focus exploring the starters. For now, I think they're a bit more interesting than the mains. I'm eager to go back and explore more of the menu!

Honestly if you're Indian and you go to an Indian restaurant and there are no Indians, its a trap. Run. Its basically an Americanized restaurant that serves "Indian food" with a twist or so they claim. The amuse bouche (complimentary) is a popular snack in India called achappam or rose cookies less than 57 cents for 20 to 35 cookies. The shrimp was three pieces and tasted meh. The Aloo dumplings tasted nothing Indian or with a twist. Had better Asian dumplings. The Scallion uttappam utter disappointment came like tacos and tasted bland. Ive had better tacos and uttappam. The monkish another disappointed. Beef nihari was okay. Dessert was a miss. Modern Indian cuisine may not be for all Indians. Won't be coming here again. My friend is American Indian and was disappointed too. Maybe their target audience is different. Won't be coming here again. The Ambience is pretty but thats about it. My suggestion is skip this and go to another modern Indian restaurant thats just a block away. Its food is delicious.

    Vicki C.

I loved the vibes and interior design of @passerinenyc and it was a nice experience dining there. Each dish was beautifully plated and tasted refined. My favorites were the aloo dumpling and the delicious cocktail! Did not like the channa masala as it was extremely salty. Keep in mind that their food is more contemporary than traditional Indian, and most are best shared. I'd be happy to go again even just for a drink and to enjoy the atmosphere.

I was seated right near the stairs and could feel cold air from outside every time the door opened, which made the experience uncomfortable. I was also surprised to see how much the cocktail menu had been reduced. When I asked about it, the response was that "the place changed a lot." That's fair -- places evolve -- but instead of highlighting the improvements or new strengths, the explanation focused negatively on what the bar used to be. As someone who really enjoyed the former version, that wasn't reassuring. Unfortunately, the drinks themselves didn't make up for it. One of the two cocktails was simply not good. No one came back to check on the drinks, and when I asked for the check after about 20 minutes, there was no acknowledgment that I had barely touched mine or any inquiry about my experience. Overall, a place I once enjoyed and recommended now feels more like a standard dive bar where " Mixologist " were replaced by bartender and were fun cool looking and tasty drinks were replaced by " less complex cocktail ", lacking the warmth and attention to detail that once made it special.

Since I associated the address with Eleven Madison Park, I wasn't expecting to see items like wings stuffed with sausage, which were done in partnership with Jungsik. We ordered those along with the mushroom burger and asked them to cut the burger in half for us. The cocktail menu was creative and a little intimidating, with unconventional ingredients like cream cheese and green curry. I went with a fruity Hendrick's-based drink, and my friend ordered the spicy green curry martini. Both were good. For drinks, she brought over someone more seasoned, who quickly helped guide us based on our preferred taste profiles. Her suggestions were very good. The mushroom burger was the highlight for me. It was a little salty, but the crispy mushroom and soft bun were a great combination. I honestly wished I had more than half. The wings were okay. They were crispy on the outside and juicy inside, but coated in a Dorito-like powder that made them very messy. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'd come back, especially for the mushroom burger.

Top recommendation for apps: the fried tuna nigiri bites. The duck ball things were really good too, and the truffle fries. Heads up, there's absolutely no phone service in the downstairs area (which is spacious and great for a big party), but they have wifi that works really well which is great. Would definitely come back here for dinner sometime.

Angel helped guide our order, paced the food well for a group, and made us feel taken care of from start to finish. Drinks were a highlight: bright, refreshing cocktails (we loved the mint/cucumber moment and a spritz-y option). We ordered a few plates to share and everything hit. The bao were fluffy and satisfying, and the crispy chicken was a standout. Finished with a light, not-too-sweet dessert that was the perfect ending. Would recommend for a casual celebration or a coworker night out.
