Geez, I was reading some of the reviews before posting mine, and I have to say--this restaurant attracts some wild reviews. From the guy screaming in ALL CAPS (okay grandpa, we get it...) to the Yelp Elite lady talking smack, and the other reviewer handing out one star because she didn't like the dessert... I could write a novel. But back to the food. The food gets a solid A for creativity. They're clearly trying to invent exciting dishes instead of playing it safe. We had the lamb chops and the lamb kabobs. Both were excellent--cooked well, flavorful, and satisfying. The chicken that came with its own tabletop grill was literally fire emoji. Tender, perfectly spiced, packed with flavor, and it paired beautifully with everything else on the table. The saag paneer was also fire emoji. It looked delicious and somehow tasted even better. The Coastal Crab Cake was sublime. Packed with crab meat, beautifully prepared, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The chicken biryani was also delicious--fragrant, flavorful, and generously portioned. I'll definitely be back. read more

Delicious Indian food and a creative menu! Portions are a bit small but I think that's better - you can try more of everything! To start, we had the Mushroom and Kataifi Phyllo Bites (very tasty, savory, and creative), Lasuni Gobi (incredibly flavorful and perfectly crispy), and the Potato and Peas Tikkis (not my favorite item but still good). The vegetarian entrees I was able to taste were the Touch of Green-Palak Paneer (so creamy and flavorful) and the Dal (a staple). The bread basket was also the perfect addition to our meal and I loved how this basket allows you to try almost nice variety of their different breads. The onion kulcha was my favorite. Now to the cons: Drinks were a bit of a let down - there weren't many options on the menu, and I wasn't too fond of the desserts we tried. Overall, a mostly delicious experience. read more

Decent food but the service is horrible and the portions are really tiny. The restaurant was totally empty but they tried to turn us away bc we didn't have a reservation. We convinced them to seat us by promising we'd leave in an hour. Our water cups were empty almost all night. And the food took forever to come out. The good dishes were the signature creme butter paneer and the sea bass. The fish amritsari recommended by the waitress was awful - hard and very over cooked. The lamb entree was meh. I've been intrigued by aRoqa for quite a while, so one night, when I was craving Indian food, we came in. No reservations needed for a Tuesday evening. aRoqa is definitely an upscale Indian restaurant, with a smartly decorated interior and nice bar. We ordered chicken biriyani, butter chicken, and garlic naan (basic, I know). The chicken biriyani was a modest portion, and I was pleasantly surprised to see an addition of crunchy caramelized onions on to (reminds me of a Mediterranean dish). This dish is bone in, and the chicken is very moist, but there were some chicken bits (tendon?) that I found myself biting into that somewhat soured the experience. The raita was much thicker than I'm used to, more of a creamy sweet addition than the usual thin, refreshing raita. This dish was just ok to me. Butter chicken was amazing. Obviously this dish is always good, but it was really delicious here, we surprisingly finished off the entire dish and I found myself licking the spoon at the end. The chicken chunks are large and juicy, but you'll need to cut them with a knife. Garlic naan was delicious - crispy, brushed with butter, incredibly flavorful. Just wish there was more to soak up the delicious butter chicken sauce. Service was very attentive, our waters were filled very quickly. Overall, solid meal. I'm not sure the slight elevation of Indian food is worth the hike in prices, but your options are somewhat limited in the area. Nice place in the neighborhood. Decor is quite modern and ambiance is nice and relaxed. We booked the place last minute looking for something outside of our usual "dining zone". The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. The menu has enough variety without overwhelming you and has a nice selection of veg and non veg options. The appetizer plates are perfect for two to three people but if you have more people, consider ordering two portions (usually comes in two or four pieces). Shared entrees are generous. We love Indian food but it's hard to find Indian food that uses higher quality ingredients - many places put too much cream or uses lesser quality chicken parts etc. you can taste the difference here - definitely better ingredients used. We tried the mushroom appetizer (Kataifi mushroom) which I highly recommend, and we also tried the dry pepper prawns - if you don't like heat, don't order this. For our main, we shared a chicken tikka masala - very good - reminds me of the kind you get in India, less like the over creamy ones here. The bread basket is a must try - if you can't finish it, bring it home! The basket will easily feed four people. With the basket, you can try all the variety of naans you get. If you have room, the dessert menu is pretty special. We ended up sharing the Coppa Pistachio - special chocolate and pistachio gelato with some sort of coconut mousse or something - amazing! Kind of disappointed in this place. I wanted some Indian food and this place came recommended as a great modern Indian spot but ultimately didn't live up to expectations. It's definitely got that modern vibe with a contemporary decor and a nice bar. We were seated pretty immediately which was good given it was a Thursday night. We started with the Paratwala Paneer and Corn Paddu to start. Both were very good and had a playful presentation to them. A lot of different flavors going on and it was pretty good. Then we got the chicken Tikka masala and the butternut squash ke kofte. The Tikka masala was very sweet and almost inedible because of how sweet it was. Almost ruined the entire meal for me. The kofte was nutty and flavorful and thankfully although it had some sweetness it was much better balanced. I think as far as Indian restaurants go, you could do much better. read more

They are know for their mushroom appetizer which we ordered. It wasn't our favorite but what do we know? We ordered a bunch of other apps each came with a fun sauce. This has become one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the city. Price: It's a bit pricey and many of the portions are small for the price but the taste of the food definitely makes up for it. Drinks are also pricey but they are unique. Food: The food is amazing! I highly recommend the Lasuni Gobi and the Vegetable Sweet Potato cutlets as appetizer choices. For entrée, we usually get the Dal Makhani and the Palak Paneer. The Okra special is also really good and I thought the Butternut Squash ke Kofte were unique and different. Overall the food here is very tasty, well seasoned, and a nice balance. Also, I'm not usually an Indian dessert person but aRoqa really knows how to make them and we always end up getting 2-3 desserts because of how delicious they are. Indian brunch with bottomless mimosas was the perfect plan for this Saturday morning with the girls. Though our group of 5 got seated in the way back by the bathroom and kitchen, we made the most of our experience. We all opted for the $45 unlimited champagne with entree (except for our preggo friend who enjoyed a passion fruit mocktail). I was really disappointed they couldn't do the chicken and masala waffles so I got the Frankie roll. This was yummy with a little kick to it - but sort of a small portion. Indian food deserves better representation- Most disappointing dish was the corn fritters. you can't serve soggy Appe with one corn kernel ( some didn't even have one ) and call it crispy corn fritters ? They were oily, soggy and extremely salty. The Kataifi mushroom was an interesting concept but again the crispy vermicelli part was dripping with oil . Wish the paratwala paneer had some masala between its layers , it was extremely bland . The only saving grace in the whole menu was the bhatti wala murg( reminds you of Indian tandoori chicken ) . The ghost chilli chicken lives up to its name but the only spice and flavor I could taste in it - was chili . It needs to be better seasoned to balance out the heat. The chicken tikka masala was the usual sweet creamy sauce with tough to bite chicken pieces . Finally the desserts- the Aroqa DAULAT KI CHAAT needs to be off the menu ( yes ! It is that bad! ) . It doesn't represent the delicate flavors of daulat ki chaat you get in India . This one tasted powdery , artificial , grainy and extremely sweet . Super easy to make a reservation using the yelp app, and the food is delicious. The restaurant is quite small so we were seated right next to the door with cold wind blasting in when opened. Otherwise service was on point and presentation of dishes was beautiful. Food wise, I'd highly recommend the lamb chops! We ordered two of these; they just melt in your mouth. Also get the ghost chili chicken and peri peri prawn appetizers, methi chicken entree (which pretty much tastes like chicken curry) and coconut kheer dessert. My friends and I are honestly confused at the Michelin Star rating of this restaurant. We ordered two appetizers which were outrageously overpriced for the quality. The fish tikka appetizer was $21 for 3 pieces of fish that did not have any masala flavor whatsoever and 1 piece of asparagus; guess you have to fight amongst your friends who will get the lone piece of asparagus. Now onto the kurkuri bhel appetizier: this dish is easily replicable for much less than what we paid here ($16). The bhel albeit was simple and met the minimum requirements; however, for a Michelin star restaurant, we were expecting to be wowed. To the chef, please consult the advice of local Indian aunties. Some of the BEST Indian food I have ever had!! A group of 4 of us walked here for dinner after exploring Chelsea Market on a busy Sunday evening. We came by at 6:15 PM and was seated at the bar, which we didn't mind, since all the tables had been reserved. I ordered garlic naan & chicken tikka misala. The servers were great conversationalists. The food came out quick as well!! The naan tasted freshly baked and so flavorful. The insides were soft and doughy! The chicken tikka misala spice was 1/10, but it was so creamy and tasty! The chicken was soft and fresh as well. Portions are large, but I was able to clean my plate. Although the menu is pricier, it's so worth it as you can taste the Michelin quality. Such a great start to my Saturday. This place had been on my visit list for a long time and finally I got a chance to visit. Unfortunately the bartender was not there so I have to compromise with Kingfisher beer. No complaints, I have got another reason to visit you guys soon. I have ordered Vada Pav as an appetizer and loved the presentation. It was served in a distinctive way from other places. It was a food truck haha. I liked the idea. Coming to taste, it was okay. Then for the main course I ordered Chole Bhautre. It comes with three bhatura's and believe me guys the taste was excellent. The Bhatura was perfectly made the way it should be. I haven't had good chole bhature in a while. If you're visiting this place over the weekend don't forget to try this. To end my hunger on a happy note, I ordered Coconut Kheer in dessert. December 2021. Tried this place based on a friends recommendation. This restaurant is Michelin acknowledged and the food absolutely blows your mind away. We liked everything from the menu that we ordered. The restaurant isn't huge but has plenty of tables, indoors and outdoors. The ambiance is modern and service is exceptional. Talking about the food, we ordered - *inhales* cocktails; fig martini and right bank. Appetizers - lamb seekh kebab, bhatti murgh chop. Entree - goan shrimp curry together with paneer aur hari mirch kulcha & Amritsar kulcha Desert - rose pudding with gulab jamun and hazelnut chocolate flute **exhales** The presentation was super fancy and cute, the food tasted absolute delicious and the service was spot on. As one would expect from a Michelin acknowledged restaurant, the food tasted absolutely YUM, but the prices are a little on the expensive side. The portion size is decent at best. Let me say, aRoqa did not disappoint. The ambience, the food, the service, and the engagement with Monica (the owner) convince me that this place is among the top NYC indian restaurants. Everything on the menu is prepared with great attention to detail, and the presentation is incredible. The spices were just perfect. The drinks menu was amazing. We had so many things since it was a big group, but the lamb chops, the konkani prawns, chicken tikka masala, and aloo gobhi are to die for! It was easy to book a last minute reservation here, which was nice. Candidly speaking, the staff was a mix of good and mediocre. My wife and I ordered the Kurkuri Bhel, the Paratwala Paneer, Palak Paneer, and Chicken Tikka Masala. The waitress took our order and shortly thereafter brought out the Kurkuri Bhel first. I took the first bite and tasted peanuts - which can send my wife into anaphylactic shock and hospitalize her, which has also happened before and so we try to exercise caution. No where on the menu did it state that there were peanuts or any nuts in the food (see the attached photo of the menu item for example). The waitress did not warn us, but did confirm after serving it that there were peanuts in the dish and I am glad she at least knew that much. She did take that meal off the bill, but it shouldn't have gotten that far. Another waitress served us with AirPods in her ears... very disconnected from the job and definitely something new I haven't seen in a restaurant before. Also, the palak paneer was very salty, and made me wonder if the chefs bothered tasting anything they were serving? The other two dishes were fine, but it really only takes one, but in this case two bad meals to ruin the overall experience. I found aRoqa in the Michelin Guide and decided to give it a try as it's so close to my office. I went for a weekday dinner with my mom and husband. To start, we shared the Kurkuri Bhel which had really nice textures from the rice puffs and lotus stem chips, but it had quite the kick! I probably would not order this again to start off my meal as it was rather spicy. We all shared the following Main Plates: Goan Shrimp Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Fenugreek Murgh. The shrimp curry was very smooth and rich, mild in flavor with four shrimps. My favorite was probably the Tikka Masala, the creamy sauce was so scrumptious. I doused everything in it. Everything came with rice, and we ordered Plain Naan on the side which comes with 4-5 pieces of bread. The service was very nice and attentive. I'm in love with this spot!! Came here for bottomless brunch with my girlfriends for a birthday. They do a 2hr limit with unlimited mimosas. My waitress was extremely attentive as to when I needed a refill (which is such a plus for a great experience). I ordered the chicken dosa, sambhar and coconut chutney. It was DELICIOUS. Incredible flavor and amazing brunch food. I felt perfectly full after. We also got some vegetable samosas and Naan for the table. All the food was heaven. Place still had empty tables when we finished, so why could we not have one of those tables? Finally, told mandatory 20% tip on table of four. Been coming here for years, live a block away. I could not give this place the full 4 stars that I wanted to but def is a 3.5 because after dinning at other Michelin star restaurants the ambiance did not feel Michelin like and that typically what people come for when they see the rating as they are also paying the price for it. That being said, i did enjoy the food overall and it was flavorful. For the appetizer, we got the ghost chili chicken, Paratwala Paneer, and Kurkuri Bhel. We enjoyed all of them however be warned that the ghost chili chicken is spicccccyyyy! Like you def feel the burn on the tongue. I was only able to eat half of one but my friends digged in! For the entrees we ordered, paneer tikka masala, fenugreek murgh, and the butternut squash kofte with garlic naan. All of it was good but I would say the paneer tikka masala is a little bit on sweeter side...so incase your not into it now you know. Also the entree's came with rice which was nice and much appreciated. At first we were hesitant on the butternut squash kofte but it was really good and different. For dessert we got the hazelnut chocolate flute and raas malai. Def skip the raas malai its average. The hazelnut choco flute is where it's at. We actually ended up ordering another one. Lastly, i didn't love the drinks we got so no recommendations there but everyone has diff taste buds. Overall I will say I definitely enjoyed the food but was expecting more from an ambiance as its a Michelin star restaurant. The waiter was very friendly and accommodating as my friend had her baby with us. We definitely appreciated how it was a baby friendly restaurant. Came here for an early brunch to meet up with a friend since I was in town for the weekend and taking a train to DC. The food was excellent. We ended up ordering from the regular dinner menu since the brunch options were limited, esp since my friend doesnt eat cheese. We got the okra special, the goat keema matar and the kataifi mushroom. All of them were delicious and it was a lot of food. The only complaint I would have is the prices are definitely on the high end ($21 for a bowl of okra) but the food was delicious and the entree portions were large. I would recommend getting their specialty items or more unique ones since the creative dishes feel more worth it for the price. People seem to get confused by being in the Michelin guide - it's not starred but is recommended. Regardless, the restaurant has good creative Indian fusion and I would go back if I were in the area. This is the second time visiting the restaurant after two years. But the quality of food went down drastically and I felt this is not the same restaurant that I visited two years back. Tried the same dishes from last time, but except the paneer everything else is sub standard. The service is okay, nothing exceptional. The ambience is also okay, but nothing special. I don't believe this restaurant deserves to be in the Micheline star restaurant. read more

Came here for dinner. Ordered the palak paneer, chicken tikka masala, as appetizers we got the ghost pepper chicken and the cassava root pearls and potato Pattie's (delicious). We also got the gulab jamun in pudding for dessert. The ghost pepper chicken was insanely spicy and I usually always ask for the spiciest never truly content at the spice level, but this dish immediately broke me out into a sweat so beware. The chicken masala was great, chicken was tender although the sauce was slightly too sweet for my preference but overall I look forward to my next time at aRoqa. The palak paneer was the reason I came back here it's the best I've had in nyc. read more
