Came here for dinner. Ordered the palak paneer, chicken tikka masala, as appetizers we got the ghost pepper chicken and the cassava root pearls and potato Pattie's (delicious). We also got the gulab jamun in pudding for dessert. The ghost pepper chicken was insanely spicy and I usually always ask for the spiciest never truly content at the spice level, but this dish immediately broke me out into a sweat so beware. The chicken masala was great, chicken was tender although the sauce was slightly too sweet for my preference but overall I look forward to my next time at aRoqa. The palak paneer was the reason I came back here it's the best I've had in nyc. read more

We came to Aroqa on a Thursday evening with a party of 4. The restaurant is very nice and located in the Chelsea / Hell's kitchen area. If you're vegan there are a lot of great options and of course if you're not a vegan there are even more options :) The drinks menu is great - there Old Fashion 206 has date and raisin infused bourbon. It's very good and deceivingly strong. I had the following which were all vegan and wonderful: - Smoked Eggplant - with fenugreek spiced parata (excellent) - Corn Paddu - corn and rice fritters, coconut kaffir, lime chutney (excellent) - Vegetable Biriyani (vegan) - saffron veggies, basmati rice, spices and crispy onion (fantastic) - Aroqa Okra Special - whole okra tossed with chefs special spices (fantastic) - Breads (onion seed was the best) - Coconut Kheer - mango sorbet, jaggery emulsion, almond flakes (very good) I loved all the food and would definitely go back as there's more to try. The people who were not vegan also really enjoyed their meals. read more

I've been frequenting aRoqa over several years (every time I'm in Manhattan), and the place has been consistently outstanding! Indian-style food @Michelin-star level. Kudos to owner Monica, Chefs Ajay & Mani, Cocktail Guru & Sommalier Prasad, and the rest of the team for maintaining the highest standard I've come to expect. read more

This is my first review of any restaurant! After reading some other reviews and looking at the appealing menu, I was eager to go, upon my son's suggestion. There were 4 of us. The drinks were 100% UNDERWHELMING and pricey. Very low alcohol content. Wishy-washy taste, despite enticing descriptions (all 4!!!). Waitress was inept but maybe just new to the job (?) Food overall was "good enough,"NOT great, nothing special. Lamb dish and chicken tikki (or Mishi?) were good enough. Vegetable biryani was ordinary and dry. Crusted corn ball appetizer/ small dish was awful. Overall, given the "hype," I was totally disappointed. Over $300 for all of us with one drink and 5 dishes ordered. Find a better restaurant!!! 6th Street! read more

The place was overcrowded The food was very very good Much the place is loud A big group kept screaming and laughing argh We were miserable as cldnt speak to our friends Next time rope the section Don't squeeze in so many ppl in one closed area read more

Yummy food!!! Great presentation!!! A place I would go every time whenever visiting New York .

Great food, ambiance and service. Loved the food and hospitality of the owner. Thanks for a wonderful evening Monica and Salman. Highly recommended a must for visitors to NYC read more

Possibly one of the tastiest Indian meals we've had (and I have a tri-state favorite in my own town). Wonderful slightly contemporary spins on classic Indian flavors. GF is clearly marked, and lots of amazing options (fried cauliflower is delish, and fritters are similarly amazing). Friendly staff and nice drinks menu. read more

Happy hour until close!! Not many places have happy hour past 7 but come to this place for drinks! There were a few options at $8 each and I loved the margarita and Long Island. Max, our bartender was SO nice and gave us great recommendation. Food - we got the kataifi mushroom and the bhatti murge. Both really delicious but definitely slightly pricy for the portion. Kataifi mushroom was crispy and had such great flavor, we literally thought there was meat in this. Bhatti murge was a chicken drumstick dish that came with a fancy presentation with flames!! We would definitely came back to try other dishes read more

Ambience -4/5 - very cute, dimly lit and perfect for perhaps a date night Food - 4/5 - we got the habanero chicken tikka, ghost chili chicken kebab. I preferred the latter as it packed a good amount of heat. The meat was well cooked in both the dishes. The habanero chicken tikka lacked any habanero flavor or perhaps was too mild for me. Portions are small. For our mains, we got the goan shrimp curry which came with rice and was the best dish of the night. It is GF and DF and full of flavor. We literally fought over the sauce! We were full at this point and didn't try any dessert. The service was reasonable- they changed our plates, offered us a choice of tables when being seated. I will be back! read more

Love this place! I love the playful and inventive approach to their presentation and food. The cocktails are really special and magical. The food has a whimsical nature and doesn't take itself too seriously. The flavors are firing on all cylinders. It just feels special every time something comes to the table as it's something that you haven't seen before. Your eyes and taste buds are both tantalized. I cannot wait to come back here. Get a bunch of items and share away so you can relish in so many of the flavors! read more

Probably the best Indian food in the city. Not necessary the best ambiance, but if you just genuinely want good modern Indian fusion food - this place beats out Baar Baar and Gupshup. But I'm giving only 4 stars bc the ambience isn't everything it could be - it's is classy and low key. You can't go wrong with any of the appetizers and the squash kofta is the best thing in the entree menu. Drinks are also great - I would recommend the 3rd eye read more

Solid, good Indian food. We started with the fried cauliflower - Lasuni Gobi (aka gobi manchurian) - it had a strong garlic flavor which I loved, but a tad bit sweet. The basil fish tikka was well-cooked and tender. For entrees, the Palak Paneer was my fave. Paneer were served as fried fritters added to a spinach sauce without a ton of butter or cream. The Chicken Tikka Masala sauce was insanely delicious, but the chicken itself was dry which was a letdown. The Goan Shrimp Curry was okay. It was a cross between Punjabi Kadhi and South Indian spices. Garlic naan and onion naan were good Also tried the Saffron Mousse which was light, but the saffron flavor itself was way too strong. Saffron flavor should be more subtle IMO. read more

Terrific food, good service, nice ambiance. Not cheap but the food was delicious. No problem getting a table on Friday at 6.

I went here with my family for my birthday and when I tell you the food was absolutely amazing. The ambiance of this is place is one of its kind. The staff was so kind and respectful the whole time. 10/10 restaurant, would recommend everyone come here and try it out for themselves. read more

Great meal at Aroqa! Between the 4 of us we split 4 small plates and 3 large plates and it ended up being just the right amount of food. The curries were all delicious but the standout was the butternut squash kofte. The drinks were also great but a bit overpriced IMO. The service and ambiance were great, even if it was a bit too dark inside. Overall I'd highly recommend this place and will be coming back read more

Delicious, reliable spot for Indian food! They try to make their presentation and atmosphere a little more "elevated" than your typical Indian food joint, and I would say it's successful. The prices are correspondingly also a little higher, but overall worth it for consistently good food that is very vegetarian-friendly. I have tried the aloo gobi, the okra special, and the vegetarian biryani, and all were good, though the okra was the least delicious among them. The chicken tikka masala was also very well-received. The naan is also delicious. I'll definitely be coming back here for both dine-in and takeout! read more

Went here for dinner on Friday and had made reservations for a table for 6 for 7 pm. The place was relatively quiet at 7 and we were seated on our table. The seating itself was a bit tight, but we managed to seat somehow! The hostess was friendly and welcoming. For drinks, I ordered the Right Bank ($16) which wasn't that great and lacked that punch in the drink that I was looking for. Presentation was pretty good though. I did all the ordering for our table and we got a few amazing appetizers which included Lasuni Gobi ($12), Habanero Tikka ($13), Kasundi Prawns ($16), Bhatti Murgh Ki Champ ($16), and Paratwala Paneer ($12). All appetizers were absolutely delicious and the Bhatti Murgh was a clear winner. The way they serve it and the flavors of this dish were absolutely mind blowing. It wasn't that spicy at all either, so spice level was manageable on this dish. Lasuni Gobi and Kasundi Prawns were our 2nd favorites. For mains we ordered 4 entrees between the 6 of us, which was sufficient food and included Dal Makhani ($18), Butternut Squash ke Kofte ($20), Fenugreek Murgh ($21), and Chicken Tikka Masala ($22). We also ordered Garlic Naan and Butter Naan ($4 each) and a Paneer aur Hari Mirchi Kulcha ($7). Fenugreek was my personal favorite with a nice spice kick to the dish but Chicken Tikke Masala with heavy cream on the side was a table favorite and disappeared within a few seconds after hitting our table! We finished off with 2 desserts, aRoqa Daulat Ki Chaat ($10) and Coconut Kheer ($10). The Kheer was a little too sweet to our liking, but the Daulat ki Chaat was absolutely delicious. Presentation was spot on! By about 7:45 pm, this place was packaged and noise levels were high, so having a conversation was a little difficult. Service was absolutely amazing and our server was very attentive. read more

Yelp led us here when we were looking for a brunch place that served dosa for my wife's birthday. I'm really glad it did. We loved our meal. I'll just list everything we shared one by one. Masala dosa - Perfectly crisped and flavorful. My wife loved the sambhar that accompanied. Lasuni Gobi - This was a hit. I could have eaten a truckful of it with that sweet sauce. Serving it in an actual toy truck was unique. Bhatti Murgh Ki Champ - It's basically Tandoori Chicken. It's also phenomenal. Quite the kick in the seasoning but just enough to make it interesting. Butter Chicken Mac and Cheese - Why hasn't anyone else thought of this? We were fighting over who would get the last morsels. Vada Pav - This was probably my least favorite. Not that it was bad. It just didn't wow me as much. My wife enjoyed it more. Dessert - The chocolate hazelnut flute was decadent. My wife went nuts for the coconut kheer with mango sherbet. This was a memorable meal. read more

The food was great but the service was quite slow. The entrees took over an hour to come out after we ordered.

This was honestly one of the best meals I've had recently. We sat at the bar and Ninad took amazing care of us. Upon his recommendation we got the kataifi mushroom, bhatti murgh chop, and chicken tikka masala. We were initially hesitant because my friend doesn't like mushrooms and I typically don't go for tikka masala when dining out, but honestly every dish was ON POINT. We also really enjoyed the cocktails and the aesthetic was lovely. This place is a gem, would definitely recommend! read more

Please don't waste your money. There is nothing contemporary about their food. Biryani was absolute shame, nothing like a biryani .. ir was more like pulao. The lasuni gobhi had no taste of lasun , it was honey glazed pakora. It is waste time and money to travel to NYC for this restaurant. Not worth the Michelin star read more

I had brunch over the weekend with friends, and was blown away by the food, service and the ambiance. Long due but this is such an amazing restaurant - almost dramatic like Bollywood - that I had to share my experience! I love going to high-end restaurants and this is one of the few upscale Indian restaurants that make it to my favorites. First off, the service here is impeccable. They make you feel so special right from serving drinks to dinner and through dessert. We especially got really really good service, the manager kept checking in on us and were seated at probably the best table in the restaurant. It was at the back of the restaurant and really private so we had a fantastic time. The kind of creativity they put in presentation is definitely one of the best, pictures don't do justice to how beautiful the drinks and food look here. We had a few cocktails but my favorite was Shadowplay - it comes in a ceramic pot with the drink itself in the top half and dry ice in the bottom half. The bottom half also has perforations and you can see the vapor coming out of them - looks incredible! Food here is not only presented beautifully, but it also tastes delicious. We had the Bhatti Murgh Ki Champ, Kasundi Prawns and Kurkuri Bhel for appetizers. Bhatti Murgh comes on a small cart and is smoked with fire in front of you - definitely try it. We also thoroughly enjoyed our main course - Butter chicken and Dum ki Nalli - would highly recommend the lamb. What I loved most is that the portion sizes are perfect here. Even after 2 drinks, 3 appetizers and 2 main course, I had room for dessert. Or maybe I just eat too much. In any case, the desserts are not to be missed. Definitely get the Coconut Kheer and Daulat ki Chaat (saffron based whipped cream!) read more

Modern Indian cuisine that takes a creative yet flavorful and enjoyable spin on traditional dishes. I just discovered the restaurant via friends last month and since then have been there a total of 3 times. Although they updated their menu since my first visit, I feel confident to proclaim standout dishes here include: Kurkuri Bhel - crispy rice puffs, avocado, tomatoes, tamarind chutney Goan Shrimp Curry - sautéed jumbo shrimp in a coconut and tamarind sauce All the dishes are fun and tasty; and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive. The menu offers a variety of contemporary new dishes using a variety of spices you would expect to experience in Indian cuisine . The menu also offers traditional dishes although be warned they may offer a contemporary spin, e.g. the palak paneer included cubes of the paneer (cottage cheese) that were deep fried. There is plenty of meat and seafood options as well and vegetarian and vegan options. I have gone with friends and friends' parents who cook Indian food. To be more accurate, they are Indian and have high expectations. All agree and appreciate how Aroqa impressively reinvents, brings its best to the table, and is a sure crowd-pleaser read more

Ordered delivery as I have seen such great reviews on food. Ordered the Lasuni Gabi, Paneer Tikka Masala, and Dal Makhani. My order was not cheap. I was shocked when I saw the portion of Lasuni Gobi (cauliflower) and found literally 5 florets for $16 dollars, and I counted because it was literally visible. The price does not match the dish. It was also soggy. The Paneer Tikka Masala was beyond average. The paneer was extremely hard and again portion to a $23 dish was not worth it. This didn't taste like a rich dish that was described. It was super sweet with hard blocks of cheese. The Dal Makhani which is deemed to be the most hearty entree you can eat, tasted like a bowl of lentils drowned cooked in ginger and ginger only. There was no taste to the dish except eating a bowl of ginger. I have dined and ordered in many Indian restaurants and for the price I found the food to be below average. There are restaurants that continue to make amazing food that is always consistent. This isn't Tamarind, Baar Baar, Bhatti Grill worthy for the price. read more

aRoqa is a terrific Indian restaurant with a great menu of both small plates and larger dishes. This is a restaurant which is ideal for a group since you can order a wide variety and share. Picked up chicken biryani and ghost chili chicken. Ghost chicken was spot on and as described. Quantity is good for 1 person (4 pieces of boneless chicken) Chicken biryani was a big disappointment. Tasty and pricey, how's that for a review? The concept is basically Indian tapas, and the portions aren't overwhelming. The openers are fun. The parsi chimbordi (crab cakes) are yummy. The sabudana tikki is fine. The ambarsa bartha is a winner. The Bhatti Murgh ki Champ is your Instagram dish, delicious tandoori chicken drumsticks presented on a flaming cart. The Goan shrimp curry is thick and and flavorful. The fenugreek murgh is heavy on taste. All in all a good experience but it's expensive too.
