I had a group of 4, so we ordered everything on the restaurant week menu, and each dish was so good; the consistency is really impressive. The standout dishes to me were the eggplant chaat (super flavorful), achaari paneer (creamy and rich), and mango kulfi pops. My only pass would be the shrimp moilee - which wasn't bad but wasn't as complex flavorfully. Service was really good as well, nothing amazing, but we were well-attended to and each dish had a short explanation. This elusive Michelin star Indian restaurant has bewildered me for quite some time now, so I finally stepped in for dinner and was not disappointed. The interior is absolutely beautiful and the bar area is gorgeous, warm and inviting. We were seated in the dining hall. Our waiter was efficient, explained each dish and its various components and flavor profiles. We started with the star item the eggplant chaat. For me it felt a little overwhelming. Normally my complaint is not enough chutney on chaat but with this dish the imlee chutney was very overpowering, even though I deeply enjoyed the textural ingenuity of the crispy eggplant. I think adding more plain yogurt to this concoction and maybe a green chutney would balance the overwhelmingly tart tamarind flavors. We also ordered the ghost chili murgh tikka which was out of this world. The flavors were a beautiful balance, smoky and marinated to depth with a spicy and memorable ghost chili finish. I love that this tikka came on a bed of citrus and other fresh ingredients that cut through the fattiness and spice of the tikka perfectly. For entrees we opted for the shrimp curry and the chicken ghassi. This was served with naan and rice. The shrimp curry was delicious, mildly spiced with an aromatic and creamy coconut curry that paired really well with the rice. I enjoyed this dish very much. The chicken ghassi was a little muted in flavor. It was made well, creamy and soft curry with tender chicken but it literally gave nothing in terms of flavor notes and I wouldn't have thought it was a Michelin level dish, just a regular muted chicken curry that you could get at any other average Indian restaurant. Dessert was interesting. We were served a coconut type flan with a pistachio filling that came with a side of jamun sorbet. The jamun sorbet was quite nice but missing the sharp flavors of quintessential ripe jamun. I would encourage the chef to add more punch to this entire dessert. The coconut pudding situation was also very muted and seemed a little shy to come through with flavor. The mango kulfi on the other hand, was stellar and delivered the flavor punch that the mumbai bar was missing. Overall I think this was a beautiful dining experience with a lot of highs and some lows. A little bit of tweaking to the flavor profiles would go a long way here. Oh my gosh, I would never go back here. Just to get a meal for two people having no drinks and just the basics is about $250. Furthermore, they don't even put their chutney on the menu and they don't set it on the table. Also they have no actual Indian food. It's all fusion craziness. An amazing experience for halal Indian fine dining that I recommend everyone try at least once during their time in nyc. They have a 3 course pre fix menu however you have the option to do 4 course and add a wine pairing as well, we did the 3 course. The appetizers were a chaat, pani puri, samosa, mirch pakora which came in a cute spiral stand display. Even though the bites were small, they all were cooked to perfection and tasted really good. For the main course we ordered chicken gassi and shank lal Maas. The meat was so tender for both, paired perfectly with the naan and daals that came with. The most wonderful tasting menu experience in NYC, hands down. Called a Journey Through India, a puzzle map of India is placed in front of the table and filled in with each course as each course is inspired from cuisine from a specific state or region. What I really appreciated too was the tasting menu being printed out with a personalized happy birthday message for me -- truly, it's in the details. I can't even pick out a favorite course. They were all so unique, delicious, and exquisitely presented. Notice the park bench in the dessert course -- an ode to Madison Square Park and signaling that our journey to India ended back in NYC, where Junoon has been for the past 15 years. Definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in the city hands down. I had some amazing food here that was flavorful, innovative, and so tasty! Came here for restaurant week and ordered the eggplant chaat and paneer to start. We had to wait a little bit for our food so the manager gave us complimentary passion fruit jaljeera shots which were so delicious! The eggplant chaat was my favorite. It was crispy eggplant pakoras done as a form of chaat, and done really well. We then went for the main dishes which was the ghost chili lotus root dumplings and the paneer tikka with naan, and rice. The ghost chili wasn't too spicy and it was the perfect dish. I would go back just for that curry because it was so addicting! The desserts we got were the rice pudding and the kulfi pops. I was so impressed with the Ube malai kulfi and the pudding, both were my favorite. We paid $45 each for a full three courses and left full, which in NYC is a crazy good deal for a high end restaurant. We booked a reservation on Friday for a Friday night dinner. It was pretty easy to make the reservation. The staff were very friendly. The service was excellent. I have a mixed feeling about food. It started high and ended low. They offered only set tasting menu. We tried the zero proof cocktails/juice. Passionfruit jaljeera: 9/10. Very unique taste. A little sweet, a little sour, plus a hinge of saltiness. It really worked up my appetite. You can taste a bit of cilantro in it. So if you don't like that flavor, don't order it. Shikanji: sweet and slightly salty too. 8/10 Spring salad- 6/10. Just like veggie juice. We loved their small plates. Eggplant chaat-8/10. crunchy and a little sweet too. Tuna puchka-8/10. The sauce for it tasted similar to the Passionfruit drink I had, thought the sauce is bit milder in the sweetness and saltiness. Ghost Chili Murgh Tikka:10/10. The chicken is cooked to perfection! Cooked just right, juicy and flavorful. The main courses: Mushroom saag: 7/10. Unique sauce, but not sure if I like it that much. Only a few mushrooms in the dish. Shrimp Moilee: so yummy! slightly sweet, salty with coconut flavor infused throughout. But ONLY 3 SHRIMPs. The flavor is 9/10 and quantity of the shrimps is 1/10. Murgh Pyaza: 7/10. Tasted just like chicken masala. Nothing stands out. Again, 3 small bite of chicken. Desert: total disappointment. Pop tasted like soap. The best of all 3 we tried was the Ma's pudding, which wasn't even special. I understand why some people left 1 or 2 star reviews. The portion sizes were laughable. SERVICE - located near Flatiron plaza - reservation highly recommended - very spacious interior with tables spread apart enough to have an intimate conversation - ambiance good for a semi formal meal - servers are very attentive and thoroughly explain each dish when it is served MENU - modern take on classic Indian dishes - vegan/vegetarian options available upon request - tasting menu only - pricey ($95 for three courses) FOOD - aloo bonda with raspberry chutney (8/10): part of the canapés served as the first course. This was an unexpectedly good combination. The tartness of the raspberry cuts through the creamy starchiness of the potato. It feels like a variation of pomegranate or tamarind with the slight sweetness of the berry. - sabudana tikki with coconut chutney (8/10): also part of the canapés. This was another hit. The tikki is crispy on the outside and just chewy enough on the inside to give a textural contrast without being sticky. The flavors are very classic and work well together. - roti with hummus (3/10): this was the least interesting of the canapés. Because we ordered vegan, they gave us what they called a missi roti topped with a dollop of hummus. The roti felt like a piece of tortilla with no flavor. The hummus was good but not spectacular. - eggplant chaat (6/10): crispy eggplant chips tossed in a sweet and spicy tamarind chutney. Out of the two chaats, I liked this one better. The fried eggplant felt like papad which gave it the chaat like feel. It was still missing an element of freshness, maybe some diced tomato or cucumber or cooked chickpeas. - squash blossom pakora (5/10): deep fried squash flowers served with a side of everything chutney. If not vegan this is supposed to be stuffed with a paneer and goat cheese mousse which would have definitely added more flavor. On its own squash blossom is a vehicle and can be bland. The chutney tasted the same as the tamarind one used for the eggplant chaat. - asparagus coconut curry (7/10): asparagus, ramps, and peas in a coconut mustard sauce. This dish was quite fresh and allowed the spring flavor of the asparagus and peas to stand out. When paired with the dal and rice, it made for a satisfying bite. On its own I think it could have used another mor substantial ingredient like a potato or grilled tofu. - mushroom truffle saag (7/10): chard, kale, and spinach purée with sautéed mushrooms and hints of truffle. This was the better of the two entrees. The mixed greens in the base were rich in flavor yet light in texture. The truffle added the right amount of umami to offset the bitter greens. Our party of four opted for the 2-course prix fixe menu for a special-occasion dinner recently. I've been to the old Junoon years ago before they moved, but not since. Things look a little different now, but high level of service and quality is still there after all this time. They continue to earn that much-coveted Michelin star. The Junoon Chaat appetizer was a standout dish in both presentation and flavor - highly recommend that one. All of our other appetizers and drinks were especially tasty as well - my Mumbai Margarita had a delicious kick that did not disappoint. One thing I miss from the original location in the gorgeous spice room that was downstairs. It had the most vibrant and beautiful assortment of spices, which I believe they mixed and perhaps even dried themselves. It was one of those truly special and memorable things you'd experience at the old location, like a little hidden secret. Still, this was a delicious experience from start to finish. Let's get this out of the way: this is a five star restaurant. The Yelp! rating is skewed by people who can't or don't want to read. This is NOT an a la carte restaurant. It's very clear on the website and menu that you choose from either a three ($98) or six course meal ($140). You can order EXTRA in addition to your chosen courses, but it's not a pick and choose kind of place. There are also people who can't read the rule, also clearly posted, that children under 10 are not allowed in the dining room. We all came out to have an EXPERIENCE, not listen to your kid cry about wanting chicken fingers. Onto why this restaurant is five stars. It's a beautiful, elegant space. Cadet blue and gold colors, dark wooden tables. Another thing I really appreciate about this dining room is that the tables aren't shoved close together as in many New York restaurants. There is actual space to get in and out of your seat. Service is immaculate. My server, Rahul, was attentive and helpful with menu recommendations. And while Rahul was my primary server, there were several support staff who brought food or refilled water throughout the night. My sparkling water was never less than a third full. The staff bringing the food presented each dish with fanfare, explaining the ingredients, flavors, and garnishes. I chose the three course meal. At Rahul's recommendation, I had the smoked masala ribs, which came under a bell filled with smoke (I told you food was served with fanfare). The ribs, covered in a vindaloo spice rub, accompanied by refreshing chaat masala apple, were spicy, flavorful and tender, coming off the bone easily. My main dish was the murgh lababdar, a tender tandoor grilled chicken served in tomato sauce with fenugreek. Rice and sauces were served as well. This dish would be a crowd pleaser for those not as adventurous with Indian food. While I enjoyed this dish, there is a lot to explore--for next time I have my eye on the lasooni palak (fern, kale, mustard greens, rainbow carrots, garlic, and more) or the asparagus and mushroom ghost chili korma (asparagus, royal trumpet mushroom, saffron cashew ghost chili sauce). The mains section is full of inventive ingredients--lotus root, jackfruit mash, heart of palm. There are also fish, duck, goat, lamb, and lobster selections. The menu also comes with your choice of lentils/breads/accompaniments. I chose the spiced naan, made with gruyere cheese and za'atar. Before desert, the staff brought me a small, white tablet and poured hot water on it. It grew into a white cylinder. I was confused, then delighted, when I realized it was a refreshing hot towel to wipe my hands and face. For desert I had the kulfi pops, small, decorative ice cream pops with flavors of mango, ube-malai, rose petal, and saffron-cardamom. The saffron-cardamom was my favorite! And I also got a special surprise! They just recently opened up for Monday dinner service again. Since I was the first customer in the restaurant on their first Monday service, I got an extra desert. I think this was the ma's rice pudding that's also on the menu. It was a thick, rich puffed rice pudding with candied almonds and carmelized banana. It was not only tasty, but an extra show of appreciation that meant a lot to me. I also tried a couple of their cocktails: the mogra madness (jasmine infused smoke lab vodka, cointreau, pavan, lemon, mandarin and orange blossom ice) and the summer in Shimla (rum bled, cointreau, cardamom, lime, and orgeat syrup). Both were light and refreshing, however, mid-course I abandoned the cocktail menu! Someone came by my table--not sure if he was the general manager or dedicated sommelier or both (or Hemant?)--with a wine recommendation that paired well with Indian food. He gave me a sample, and it was very fragrant, clean, crisp. So after I finished my cocktail, I went with wine. I have been a wine drinker for years, but have fallen toward cocktails over the past couple of years. This made me fall in love with wine again. The romance of it, appreciating each individual aroma, flavor. Thank you for that! People complain about the price and portions. I think this is an American issue (I am American). I think the portions are perfect. Smaller, but when combined into a three course meal with drinks, just right. You're satisfied, but not overly full. And this isn't the type of food you take home and shove in the fridge to microwave later. Some tips: make a reservation. If you reserve on Resy, cancellations or change to party size less than 24 hours ahead brings a charge of 45 dollars. Also, early weekdays beat the crowds: I went at 5:30 on Monday when they first opened, and I was the first one there and the place wasn't crowded when I left. WOW. Where do I even begin? To say I loved dining here is an understatement. The 6 of us decided to try out Junoon for lunch on our last day visiting NYC. I made the reservation ahead of time as I wanted to make sure we were able to get seated. Upon walking in, it looked like we would've been able to get a reservation (we had lunch at 1:30pm.) We just wanted to be safe. The inside is beautiful. It's got such a nice combination of decor and lighting where everything compliments each other so perfectly. The bar was beautiful. From the beginning, we knew that we were in for a treat. The 6 of us were seated at a nice corner circle booth. We had to add 2 more chairs just to make sure we all had enough elbow room. For Lunch, you have two options. You can either do a 2 course or 3 course menu. We opted for the 2 course menu. You can pick an appetizer and a main course. They have 7 options for appetizers and 10 options for the main course, so you're bound to find something that you will Good to note, that the mains are served with basmati rice and naan. For my lunch, I got the Ghost Chili Murgh Tikka (appetizer) and the Burra Kebab (main.) When I tell you the ghost chili tikka was spicy, I am not kidding. It definitely packed quite a punch but it was the type of punch that's tolerable as you're eating throughout lunch. The chicken was nice and tender and so flavorful. It was worth the sweat. The Burra Kebab was EXCELLENT. I am a sucker for lamb chops, and I normally don't get them whenever I eat out, but I thought, why not? They were cooked perfectly, and were so flavorful. I'm pretty sure there was no lamb left on the bone at all. Highly recommend getting these if you're a fan of lamb chops. Everyone else had nothing but good things to say about their food. I'm pretty sure all 6 of us got different things. I have added pictures of everything below so you can take a look. The food is EXCELLENT. Junoon also has a great drink menu. I got the Mumbai Margarita. It was the perfect blend of spicy meets sweet. They have so many other drinks, so feel free to try whatever you want. The service at Junoon is impeccable. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about all the drinks, and all the food options. He explained everything in such detail and answered all the questions we had. I would recommend Junoon to honestly anyone. The cost is a little high, but in my opinion, worth it. The food is some of the best quality Indian food I have ever had. Very disappointing. The room is elegant and the service is excellent, but the food is uneven, and you're required to order a $95 "three course" menu. One of the courses is bread -- dessert is $16 extra. Perhaps they could pull this off when they had a Michelin star (presumably the food was also much better then), but now it feels wildly overpriced. read more

I went here for the two-course lunch prefix and it was a wonderful experience! We walked in with no reservation and were seated immediately, and had good service throughout (not anything outstanding). It was a swanky, spacious place. We ordered the Ghost Chicken & Haleem to start - both outstanding! The chicken was some of the most well-cooked chicken I've ever eaten. Then we got the Konkani shrimp and the Lal mas for entrees and both were delicious (shrimp could have been a taaaad spicier imo). Naan & basmati rice were yummy, but standard. Total was $43 per person which I thought was decent and would 100% return here again! The food was so so good and it was a great place to stop for lunch. read more
