The 3 course menu standard consists of an appetizer, a main and a desert. While my wife ordered the Eggplant chat, the Murgh Tandoor and the Kulfis for desert, i opted for the Tawa Paneer, Dal Makhani and the Strawberry Shrikhand. We understand these are subjective, but there were a couple of things that didn't live up to our expectations: - Although cooked, the Paneer in the Tawa Paneer was bland. Dal Makhani lacked salt as well. - Murgh Tandoor seemed like it was cooked in an unconventional manner - which missed the mark on us. What we loved was the eggplant chat and the deserts! I had an amazing time here with my friends! We came during restaurant week for Sunday dinner. Most of the dishes came with 3 portions which was perfect for our party of 3 since we shared everything to maximize the dishes we could try. The service was also very upscale and also very friendly, making sure we had everything we needed and that we were having a good time. For small plates, we got the Tawa Stuffed Paneer, Tuna Puchka, and Ghost Chili Murgh Tikka- all of which were so delicious. For main dishes, we got the Achari Paneer, Shrimp Moilee, and Murgh Pasanda. They again were all good but my personal favorite was the Shrimp Moilee. I thought the curry/sauce in that one was the most flavorful but my friends also really liked the Murgh Pasanda (chicken) and the sauce with that one. One of the standout things was they brought out naan with the mains and it was a big basket of naan, not like other places that often just bring out a few pieces and you have to keep asking for more. A friend picked the restaurant and I didn't realize that the only option for ordering was a fixed menu that was $98 per person and everyone at the table had to order. The menu says bread us included with dinner however they charged us for naan. Starter: GHOST CHILI MURGH TIKKA Overly spicy and lacked seasoning, the best thing on the plate was the carrot garnish Main: DELHI DEGH CHICKEN BIRYANI The chicken was kind of dry and the rice lacked flavor. Dessert: TRIPLE CHOCOLATE MOUSSE. The ghost pepper made this dessert fun to try, however the portion is small, think about the size of a single Kit Kat bar. All of the food was tasty. I had the prix fixe dinner with jal jeera drink, eggplant chaat, mushroom korma, naan, rice, and the cricket dessert. The food was all quite good. The coconut "grass" around the cricket was pretty bland, which is the only negative thing I have to say about the flavor. The presentation was really creative. I especially liked the small bottles and ice bucket the jal jeera came in, and the cricket dessert was basically a piece of art! The interior is beautiful, the plating is elegant, and the staff were friendly and professional. The prestige menu is three courses, but you get to choose five things including the bread and lentil, which makes the ordering experience quite fun. The range of options is great, both in terms of the meats or lack thereof, and also in terms of spiciness. Many are options that you won't find in any average Indian restaurant. The haleem paired a tasty bread with a good bite alongside a flavorful goat meat dish. The lobster was yummy, having a flavorful curry that was wonderful by itself, with the naan, and with rice. The lobster wasn't huge, but it was definitely enough that I was more than full by the end. The gucchi pulao was exciting, though the taste of the mushrooms themselves was largely drowned out by the other flavors -- but still tasted great overall. The Junoon spiced naan was yummy though it wasn't as spiced as I'd expected. Its cheese is subtly tucked inside to give it a slightly stretchy texture that leaves you wondering if it's actually cheese or just very stretchable bread -- this was a good thing to me, it was nicely cheesy without being overbearing. It's definitely naan, but it almost reminded me of a scallion pancake in texture. Wonderful! Note that some of these choices do come with surcharges up to $9 which aren't noted on the online menu but are displayed on the printed menu at the restaurant. Finally, all of the desserts present interesting flavors in creative ways. The most interesting presentation was the "cricket", which looks like a cricket pitch atop a bed of coconut grass. The bat is a butter cookie and the wicket is chocolate. Very fun and tasty as well! Overall, it was a nice experience with many options to choose from all of which turned out to be great. Junoon (I opted for veg) tasting menu strikes a solid balance between subtle and bold Indian flavors. Their mushroom kichdi is basically the best mushroom barley soup I've ever had--rich, comforting. The panipuri? Crisp shells bursting with bright, tangy goodness that made me want to keep ordering more. I wish I could honestly. Service is spot on, like straight up mind reading. I was secretly craving garlic naan and rice, and as if they could read my mind, they brought it out right before the final savory course. Total wish granted moment! Dessert sealed the deal with a spicy chocolate mousse... smooth sweetness with just the right hint of heat. I did feel that one or two dishes could've used more acid, but overall, it was a great meal. Very disappointing. The room is elegant and the service is excellent, but the food is uneven, and you're required to order a $95 "three course" menu. One of the courses is bread -- dessert is $16 extra. Perhaps they could pull this off when they had a Michelin star (presumably the food was also much better then), but now it feels wildly overpriced. read more

This place was so talked about that when I was in NYC for a short trip, I made sure to get reservations for this place. But honestly, I was a bit underwhelmed. It's good and all but does not really hit the spot for the kind of money, rage, and effort around it. I could have gotten better Indian food at another place, nothing from my trip to Junoon really stands out. Food: We booked the 6-course menu thing. The laal maas & haleem were the best out of the lot. Other decent items were the ghost chili wings, lamb chops & kulfis. All the other items were basic at best. The vegetarian options were not that great and I feel for my vegetarian friends who came out not full or with a happy tummy. I liked the plating and presentation of the food & drinks, so kudos on that. The beverages were good though, the cocktails stiff and yummy. Service: The waitstaff was polite and attentive. All our food came out well-timed and hot. In-all: This was one of those highly anticipated reservations which didn't live up to the hype, for me. Came here with a group for the first time and this upscale Indian restaurant is not only gorgeous inside but has amazing quality food, loved everything! I came here on a whim, having gotten stuck in Manhattan for an extra night when my client issue was resolved and the need to stay longer was obviated. I googled "best Indian restaurants in NYC," and this place came up as number 1. So, feeling intrepid, I decided to go it on my own and check it out. I am so happy I did. I started with the "Flight to India," a transportive flight of three of Junoon's legacy cocktails. Aromatics, spices, and spirits abounded. All I can say is.....you HAVE to try this. I was transported. Do you know how tastes and smells can send you back in time? I first tried the Junoon in Manhattan. It was simply delicious and complex. With an amazing cherry that had soaked for days in alcohol served on a spear. It reminded me of when I used to steal sips of my mother's Manhattan at age 10 at Aunt Rhoda's house. Full of citrus! A stolen pleasure of my youth. So pungent and prophetic! It portended of the warmth and flavour to come. Second was the Masala Whiskey. Yum. Made with house made Masala syrup and orange bitters---sweet and smoky (real smoke). Just tantilizing. I even enjoyed the soaked orange peel. Last, the Stinging Vesper---Indian Gin with other liquors, including Lillet blanc---clean, light, crisp with a soaked lemon peel. The restaurant offers ala carte options but also two, three, and five course tasting menus. I decided to try the five-course chef tasting menu and since I had choices (see menu in my pictures accompanying this review) I chose Tuna Puchka (tuna, black salt, caviar, cilantro and Jaljeera) followed by Duck& Truffle Kozambu (seared royal trumpet mushrooms, cabbage wrapped mushrooms, winter truffles, poppy seed & tomato sauce), Maacher Hara Gouri (banana leaf steamed tamarind, jaggery marinated red snapper, smoked salmon roe, basmati rice) and Lamb Pasanda (tandoor roasted lamp chop, cranberry, saffron walnut sauce). I sat at the bar and was served by two lovely bartenders, Deepak, and another older gentleman's whose name is escaping me now. Deepak said that the kitchen would allow me to trade out the dessert choices on the fiev course meal to something more of my liking...Kulfi Pops (small stocks of ice dessert in Mango, ube malai, rose petal and saffron-cardamom). The multi course menu makes it easy to enjoy different dishes and you can order food to your liking even if you are with a larger group, not forcing you to go family style like in usual Indian restaurants. One of the best Indian restaurants I have been to in NYC. The dishes were flavorful and delicious, but not overwhelming. It is on the more upscale side, we had the 3 course tasting menu. The first course was the ghost chili murgh tikka. Don't let the name scare you, there is a nice kick to it but it is not too spicy. The carrot-coconut purée and carrot salad was light and refreshing, and balanced the heat from the chicken perfectly. The chicken was cooked well and packed with a mesmerizing mix of spice and flavours, very delectable! The second course was the miso tile fish moilee. The fish was cooked perfectly, there was breading on the skin, which lent a nice crunch. The sauce was so rich, creamy, sweet, coconutty; it is such a delightful pairing with the tilefish. Along with the main came basmati rice, garlic naan, and various sauces. The rice was a nice base for everything. The garlic naan was so fragrant and had a nice chew and fluffiness. The sauces had a delicious range of flavours, but none of them were too overpowering or strong. For the dessert, I got the banana baba, which had a nice blend of orange cake, custard, pistachio - tasty and not too sweet. Was in town for work and had a team dinner (about 13 of us) here and it was FABULOUS! Reasons for the 5 stars: 1. They customized a menu for our group of 13 who are a variety of pescatarians, vegetarians and hard core carnivores. We called ahead and they accommodated our group FABULOUSLY!! If you have a big group, call ahead and let them know. They took such great care of us. 2. If you're wanting to really good authentic Indian food...A MUST! EVERYTHING was great. And I do mean everything! I can't remember everything we ordered but I definitely remember the Butter pepper garlic shrimp (AMAZE), Paneer Mirchi Ka Salan (so good), Lamb Chops, and the mushroom Korma (for our vegetarian friends) and so much more. I LOVE Indian food and am always a little hesitant about upscale Indian restaurants because the best Indian food (to me) is always the smaller places...but this place did NOT disappoint. 3. Everyone who worked there was just so awesome! You can imagine how challenging it can be to handle a group that large and they did it fabulously. After watching seasons of Masterchef India, we were keen to try out Chef Vikas Khanna's Michelin star winning food and found out that he was associated with the restaurant Junoon in New York. Some friends went there last year and gave us good reviews. So we did not think twice when we were planning a celebration for our 6th anniversary. We planned to go for a 3 course menu and made reservations a week in advance. The appetizers were smashing and so delicious! I had not tried haleem before in my life, but couldn't stop eating even if it was a little bit spicy for me. The chicken was very well cooked and looked so beautiful. Achari Paneer in the main course was ok-ish but the konkani shrimp was super yum. I must give an extra star for the side rice- I couldn't believe how a simple dish could be made so well. It went very well with the shrimp curry. The dessert was definitely the highlight of the meal. I loved the many flavors of the kulfi pop and my husband enjoyed the pistachio ice cream with the banana cake. We were also treated to a small but delightful anniversary cake. Also, we took the junoon special naan with zatar spice to-go and finished it with some leftovers later in the night. The restaurant is spacious and pretty. The service is warm and kind. My friend from out of town really wanted to come here. We arrived at 12:30pm on a Saturday. It was just as they opened so it was still empty. The dress code is smart casual - usually a nice top with jeans and optional blazer. Price - it was reasonable. For 3 people, we got 2 drinks each, 3 appetizer, naan, rice, 3 entrees and 1 dessert for $400 after taxes and tip. Service - The service was great when we first arrived but just as they started to get busy, it declined. They would forget what we ordered, miss items, or take forever to come back to us. We wanted to order another round of drinks but it was so hard to flag them down. For that, I bumped them down by 1 star. Food - The food was great! For appetizers, we got the tandoori octopus, eggplant Chaat and the Lahsooni Gobi, which is Crispy cauliflower, tomato, garlic chili chutney. My favorite was the Lahsooni Gobi. You can really taste each flavor and how it blends together. For Entree, we got the Lobster Rasam, mushroom truffle and the lamb chop. My favorite entree was the lamb chop. They had a good flavor and you can barely taste the gaminess. I highly recommend the saffron rice. You can really taste the saffron. Some places, you can barely taste it. I had high expectations for Junoon but sadly it missed the mark for me. The service was good but the food was a hit or miss depending on the dish. I came here for lunch and ordered from the prix fixe menu, $39 for 2 courses or $45 for 3 courses (aka dessert). Out of all the appetizers, the Salooni Maachi was beautifully plated compared to the other apps. It tasted good imo but the stand out appetizer was the ghost chili murgh tikka. I do not recommend the paneer mirchi pakora, it wasn't what I had expected and def not as good as the other apps. The entrees were good. Flavor wise, all the entrees were good but I was really hoping for something that would wow me. The entrees were a good size though. I'd recommend Murgh Lababdor out if all the entrees on the prix fixe menu. The Junoon spiced naan was great but can someone tell me why we only got 1 bowl of rice for 5 entrees? Dessert was ok. For food - we did the 3 course meal and I chose the Gilafi Shiloh kebab, the mushroom and truffle kichdi, and the banana baba. Everything was so good! I had pretty high expectations of this modern high end Indian establishment and it really didn't disappoint. First, their Covid protocols should make any vaccinated patron feel pretty comfortable. We were in the main dining which came with a prix fixe only menu option. For $85 per person, it is quite a bit of food and the food is truly wonderful. I started with the eggplant small plate-fried and totally indulgent, spicy and super tasty. I had the snapper which was good. The fish was just slightly over cooked but still quite good. The kulfi pops were a fantastic finish to my dinner. I also can't rave enough about the naan and accompaniments that come with the meal. Others at the table had the tuna puchka which was a new small plate addition. The smoked ribs small plate was knock your socks off delicious. I tried the goat entree and the lobster entree which really were the stars of the show. The cocktails here were also something special. I highly recommend the vintage Paloma. One of the best dining experiences I've had! Everything I ate was perfectly prepared and presented, filled with bold flavors that blended so well. Appetizer was Crispy Eggplant. Loved eggplant was perfectly crispy, not oily. The tamarind chutney and raita worked perfectly as a topping. Love this to start my meal. Main course: murgh lababdar. OUTSTANDING! The chicken was tender, and the sauce was rich with tomato flavor, smoothed with cream, and just a hint of heat. I had raita and yellow daal with it - wow! I'd order those by themselves! I'm being picky here - but the thing that wasn't perfect: the only offered one type of paratha (and I don't like kale). I would have liked aloo or paneer. We love Junoon. It is our go to restaurant for lunch when we are in NYC to see a matinee. I can't say enough good things about it. The service is always impeccable and the food amazing. We always do the 3-course prix fixe lunch, which is an amazing deal. Our two favorite appetizers are the Ghost Chili Murgh Tikka and the smoked ribs. The presentation of the smoked ribs is such a fun experience, and the ribs are delicious with such an amazing smoked flavor. The waiter will warn you that the Ghost Chili Murgh Tikka is spicy but to us it has the perfect amount of spice and smoke flavor. My daughter got this as an appetizer the first time we went and proceeded to get it each time it is that good. The last few times we went we both got ghost chili lotus root dumplings. We both agree that this is one, if not the, amazing dishes we have eaten. The dumplings are delicious, but the sauce is out of this world. We dream of this dish between visits. We have tried many of the desserts and all have been fun. I am not sure what the dessert is called that we got the last two times. It was delicious with such unique flavors. Junoon was incredible, I don't think I've ever seen my parents love a restaurant as much as they loved this one-- every course was a hit. My drink for the night was the Masala Whiskey, basically an Indian old-fashioned. Others at the table tried the Mumbai Margarita, Sparkling Saffron, and a couple others I'm having trouble recollecting. All of them were average to great. Junoon has 2 options for the menu. One is the chef's tasting menu, which is $140/person with a $75 wine pairing. The other one is a 3-course menu for $98, basically an app, an entree, and a dessert. We went with the 3-course, as it's more popular based on both what friends have told us and the reviews online. Each round was delicious. The appetizers were on the more creative side, compared to the entrees, which were more like traditional curries. On the non-veg side of the table, we tried the Mushroom & Chives Scallops, Gilafi Seekh Kebab, Ghost Chili Murgh (Chicken) Tikka, and Smoked Masala Ribs. Out of these, the Smoked Masala Ribs (which came in a smoke-filled cloche) were the best, delicious and fell right off the bone. My parents were particularly impressed with the vegetarian apps they opted for: Eggplant Chaat and Kurkuri Bhindi Chaat (Okra). They loved both, though I think the Okra dish won for them. The entrees were more traditional curries, and they were delicious, like some of the best I've had at an Indian restaurant. The Tellicherry Duck (apparently famous) was really good, I definitely made the right decision there. Other great dishes were Lal Mas (goat curry), Fish Moilee (coconut curry), and the Murgh Lababdar (chicken). The entrees also came with "Junoon Naan", which was a naan created with Za'atar, Paneer, and Gruyere. It was one of the better flavored naans I've had. Other than that they came with raita, rice, and Daal Makhni, all of which were great. Lastly, the desserts were creative and all a hit. Definitely check out the picture of "Cricket", which was literally a dessert in the form of a cricket pitch. We also had Kulfi Pops, Banana Baba, and Ma's Rice Pudding. The rice pudding was incredible, the chefs mom's recipe, and probably the best tasting dessert of the bunch. Junoon was incredible, but leaving 4 stars as the dinner started on a weird note, where the hosts were short (bordering on rude) when my parents asked about their affiliation with Vikas Khanna. I know this is funny to say that this was 'a hole in a wall', but I felt like I had discovered this restaurant with the same feeling of one. I decided to try this restaurant out, courtesy of restaurant week 2024, with some friends and needless to say, I really enjoyed my experience. Albeit the hostess/greeter at the the front had a posh attitude of a high-end restaurant (which could be a turn-off, it wasn't for me since I had no expectations of this restaurant), the rest of the service was a good experience. The waiters were super nice and accommodating and explained items on the menu I was confused on. Next came the food. The selection of choices available for restaurant week was very expansive despite the limited choices people could choose from. It had a good variety of different proteins to accommodate different dietary lifestyles. I enjoyed "tuna puchka" the most, it was giving 'beef tartar'. The chutney it came with gave it a refreshing kick (you pour it inside the pani puri). My favorite entree has to be the "nadra ghost chili korma" it was such an unsuspecting dish. We wanted to have 1 thing different than the normal chicken and shrimp option (and we had a paneer as one of our appetizers already). I am a spicy food connoisseur and the kick was just right for me and the flavor was rich and I savored the lotus root dumpling. If you're anti-spicy, go for the "shrimp moilee" an amazing blend of spices with coconut milk without it feeling too heavy. Lastly, they didn't cheap out on the portion or selection for dessert. The other dishes felt very sample-size-esque. I loved the kulfi, it was beautifully plated. I didn't care too much for the shrikand because it was too tart for my taste, but I liked the mango aftertaste. I'm surprised this restaurant has such low ratings on yelp, but I understand on a regular night, all the items are very pricey, so I would take advantage of the restaurant week deal.
