I had a wonderful experience here. I had a large party reservation of 25 people, and the staff was really great at helping me plan for my evening - from setting aside the bar area for us, helping me choose the menu and coordinating around various dietary restrictions for my guests, advising on quantities of dishes to be ordered, and even helping me set the pace of the meal on the day of. My group mostly had very positive things to say about the food. I tried some vegetarian dishes: Dudhiya Kebab - flavorful filling between two grilled paneer discs. Jalebi Chaat - really tasty, with a nice variety of textures, great spices, and some nice tartness to balance. Andhra Chili Gobi - crispy and paired nicely with the yogurt topping. Strong notes of curry leaf. Himachali Gucchi - this wasn't bad, but also wasn't my favorite. Pretty rich and savory, but the seasoning just didn't quite land for me. I didn't try the meat dishes. Most of my guests seemed to like the flavors, but did find the meat itself to be a tad dry/overcooked. Some of the favorites seemed to include the chicken tikka, lamb chops, and lobster malaikari. The presentation on all the dishes was absolutely gorgeous. The sharabi chicken tikka especially makes for quite the show. For drinks, I tried the Begum's Blush and Jubilee Affair. The Begum's Blush had some nice fresh and tart flavors; the Jubilee Affair was clarified and a bit complex. Others had the Kiss Me in Goa, which was spicy and herbal. First time visit at ISHQ for NYC Restaurant Week. The food was delicious and I can see why the Michelin Guide noted it. The restaurant's ambience is also beautiful and cozy. That being said, I expected the overall service to be better. The Wednesday night dinner staffing may have been under, but the lack of initial attention to my table's section was noted. There was no formal greeting while waiting to be seated or before orders were placed. They didn't ask about dietary restrictions, and before I could give them, the server walked away. One dessert item had an ingredient that I am allergic to, and it wasn't written in the item's menu description. Once food hit the table, the service was a bit better, but still rushed; I had a bit of beer left in my glass and a server removed it from the table. If you're all about ambience and a place that feels polished, not your hole in the Wall Indian, go ... but if you cook and know good food, this place is an impostor for non Indians and those who don't really know good Indian food. Nothing stood out. The cauliflower is drab fried pakora like pieces. Dahi kebab have the same spicy mayo type dipping sauce. The jalebi Chaat had yogurt which had gone bad. Paneer main dish while ok-ish in taste the paneer is so hard and chewy and daal was mid. Worst offender was laccha partha that came swimming in fat. Literally soaked top to bottom. Which restaurant uses such low quality small rice grain for a biryani? Many hole in the wall are cooking better food. Also, the restaurant has bad acoustics. We were hunched over our tables to hear each other. Service was OK but I don't want to smell strong chemicals every time the table was wiped between courses. Ever since Ishq made it to the Michelin Bib Gourmand list I have been dying to come try this place. God knows it takes forever to knock off places in the NYC dining scene but the opportunity to dine here finally arose and I took it with both hands. We started with the saffron tikka which was very good. Not too spicy, moist, good flavor but not the most mind blowing piece of chicken I've had. Far from it actually. The pickled onions on the side with chutney a fine touch. The other crispy chicken appetizer we ordered was sort of forgettable. The sauce was also kind of flat on that. For mains we got the lamb curry and the butter chicken. The lamb was delicious and mildly spiced but very fall apart and cooked with love. I loved the flavors on this curry and enjoyed it thoroughly with my crisp and pillowy garlic naan. The butter chicken on the other hand was just okay. The sauce was kinda runnier than what I like and it had an odd sweet taste which I didn't care for, but it was still very good. Just not as good as the lamb for sure. Dessert was a ghulab jamun tart. The casing of the tart did absolutely nothing for this dessert and at this point I'd rather just have the ghulab jamun in its original form. The citrus pudding on the side was delicious though. Surprisingly for an Indian restaurant, they don't serve chai??? Strange way to be a self loathing establishment. Seating inside was cozy and dimly lit. This is a great spot for an upscale dinner or a date, but if you want to end your meal with chai like we did you might have to scramble around the neighborhood for that. I came here for dinner. The restaurant was not very full and we got seated immediately. The service overall was really good but they could not make small accommodations, for example, like I asked for a lemon water and this was incredibly complicated. I will say that they were able to do some of the simple dishes really well, and the Indian flavors were authentic, but I would not come up for a special event, only if I happen to be in the area and looking for Indian food they have a pretty large space I would say probably about 20 tables, with maybe three larger tables for bigger groups. First time dining at this Michelin Bib Gourmand and it was restaurant week. I arrived 45 minutes later due to work commitments and I was seated at the bar. Marco took care of me and we had a great conversation. Marco gave great recommendations but I knew what I wanted to order. I ordered from the restaurant week menu and the portions were definitely smaller. Ambiance was great but unfortunately I did not get to explore the entire restaurant as I was very hungry. I started off with a complementary take on the pani puri, which was a great bite. For the appetizer I ordered the Jalebi Chaat and I devoured it. All the components put together was a perfect balance of flavors and textures. For the entree I ordered the Delhi Butter Chicken with Naan and this dish had a kick but I liked it. I didn't finish the dish and I ended up taking it home for my other half to enjoy. For the dessert I had a sampler of their popular dishes which hit the spot. Ishq is another addition to the upscale Indian restaurant scene. The ambiance is nice. I found their seating to be very comfortable, including for the people who are not sitting in the booth. The service was great. In terms of the food, we found some of their food to be incredibly spicy. As a family who cannot handle a high level of heat we struggled to eat some of their food. We tried to get mango lassi to help cool down the heat but there was some issue and they could not make any more lassi. I had already gotten a glass so I ended up sharing my one glass with the family. Here is what we ordered and what we thought: 1. Jalebi chaat- 5/5 great taste, manageable spice level 2. Sharabi tikka- 4/5 taste was great, chicken was really tender and the presentation was fun. Would be 5/5 but we found the heat level to be too high 3. Meat Kulcha- 5/5 this was delicious. I recommend it 4. Lamb karahi- 5/5 we requested a milder version and it was perfect. It was my favorite dish of the night 5. Chicken biryani- 2/5. It was so spicy that we just could not eat it. I also ended up chewing some whole spices which ruined the whole experience for me. I understand that whole spices are used while cooking biryani but given that this is a high end restaurant, I didn't think they would leave them in 6. Mango Lassi- 4/5 I liked it. My husband didn't. Came here for dinner one night because we heard this made it to the Michelin Bib list last year. Everything was pretty tasty, and the cocktails were artfully crafted - one of them had one of those cool popping bubbles with wisps of smoke in it! The food was all really good, super flavorful, and very filling. Definitely worth checking out and going out of your way for! The space was also quite chic and spacious, definitely felt like you could hear the people you were with and you could bring a sizable group (we had roughly 6). The chicken was probably our favorite dish of the night, and was so tender and had a variety of textures. The panipuri was also a standout and quite delicious. Ishq chaandi hai, ishq sona hai - for my Bollywood loving friends - you'll get the reference! One word - spectacular! Made reservations, and if you have a well behaved child, they will let you in with your little one even if the Resy says no kids under 8. Just be considerate to other diners is their ask, which is more than fair. Chef Vamshi delivers another excellent menu after Gazab, with small plates packed with flavor and entrees with a decent balance. Small Plates: Jalebi Chaat ($19) is a must have, just like Sharabi Chicken Tikka ($23). Kadak Rumali ($15) is passable, but their chili sour cream was tasty! Andhra Chili Gobi ($17) for one might be too much, as the oil eventually gets to you - but an excellent choice if sharing the small plate. For non-paneer eaters, you cannot go wrong with Himachali Gucchi ($23) - the the classic onion & tomato gravy goes surprisingly well with morel mushrooms! The Poussin Musallam ($31) was on the less flavorful side, but the cornish hen looked really well cooked. Laccha Paratha ($8) is a generous size, and one should be enough to be shared by two people, just like their tasty garlic Naan ($7). I'm only comparing Ishq to Adda because it felt like they both are going for a similar vibe with a lot of style over substance. However, where Adda failed to deliver substance, Ishq succeeded. Of the 3 main words in the Hindustani lexicon for love, "ishq" is the most fleeting. It is simultaneously tacky yet suggestive. You would never profess your love to someone by saying that you had been overcome with "ishq." Similarly, my feelings about this new modern desi eatery in Alphabet City are hard to pin down. Things started on a high note, with the excellent malai soya chaap - a cousin to the paneer tikka kebab that's less commonly found on menus in the U.S., the malai sauce had a lovely fragrance to it, and the soya itself was tender. The so-called roomali appetizer, while a bit hard to eat logistically, was quite unique with a nice blend of cheeses on top. Deliciousness, check. - Breads: tandoori roti (5/5) and garlic naan (4.5/5). The roti is typical roti so you get what you expect. The garlic naan is fluffier than anticipated. - Dessert Sampler : the Apricot Mousse was such a surprise and a (5/5).The Tart however was decent but tasted like a confused concept (3/5). Some of the best Indian food I've had in the city. The starter pani puri was yummy not the best I've had. The chilli gobi cauliflower was fried expertly and was tender and yummy. The sauce wasn't my favorite. The jalebi chaat was really good. It was sweet but I liked the textures and flavors. The paneer gravy dish was like a tikka masala tomato based gravy. Easy to make reservation for a weekday for a large group of six. The interior was very spacious. It kept the layout from its prior establishment with a shared large communal table right as you walk in with separate dining tables towards the end. We liked the apps more than the entrees. This was a nice outing. I found out about this place for my personality on YouTube. I've been to a couple places he has recommended. I have noticed that he gets special treatment that's pretty different from what you get when you go to these places. So I came and expecting some of the same which is a mistake. I'm not a big fan of the Indian restaurants from my town. And neither is my town lol. You passed by there's never cars in the yard. And their food just isn't that good. Everything is ove rcurried. The only traffic they get is DoorDash and Uber eats. You can tell this was authentic. For some weird reason I just kept thinking about Tony soprano getting sick at that Indian restaurant and how that whole episode was so crazy. Lol. We started with the advertisers. I'm sorry I forgotten certain names but we had a fried chicken rose and potato with a spicy chili cream sauce on the side. It was well seasoned. Presentation was beautiful. Also tried the naan chili bread. I believe it was the one with the cheese. It was very very basic. I will pass on that next time or just use it to eat with the chicken and sauce. I thought that would be better. Also tried the oysters. I thought it would be different in New York. I don't know if it's a oyster season thing but most of these restaurants deliver some of the most smallest oysters I've ever seen. Very tasty but super small. I have attempted to buy oysters at restaurants at least eight times and it's 0-8. Am I rude for asking my waiter the size of the oysters before I order them? Because something has to change on that. I had the tiger shrimp. A whole shrimp grilled in a spicy Indian sauce. They only gave you three for our entree and no sides come with them. I noticed that about restaurants in New York the sides are not automatic. They were pretty damn good. I could use about three more to be honest. Lol Next time I will try the lamb chops. I also have the chicken thighs with a very spicy sauce. They light a fire to it while it's on the table beautiful presentation. On the fire goes out it is a little bit more crispy. The flavor was excellent. Another thing I notice is not many restaurants do sweet tea. Do you guys hate Boston that much. Lol. Food hair was pretty good though. A modern Indian spot -- ambiance was nice, would totally bring parents here! They're surprisingly large inside and it's so nice to have an upscale spot like this in the East Village! They have really fun cocktails, liked everything we got. I liked pretty much everything we got but standouts include Mushroom Curry, Lobster Malai and Ishq Daal. I would say 3.5 . So nice ambience , decor , lighting - tables well spaced out . Service polite but it was hectic on Christmas night We shared the Jelabi Chaat for appetizer , very fresh tasting , fun presentation . We both enjoyed it - flavors were balanced I had a glass of white wine - Pinot Grigio , decent for $17 - but a pet peeve of mine - drinking wine , there is an added elevated pleasure from drinking in a nice wine glass . This was served in a thick glass wine glass with a thicker lip - even though the shape was contemporary . Classy joint like this can elevate the experience with better wine glasses I had the boneless lamb - it was in a thick, oily gravy - personally I felt the spices and oil just overpowered the lamb - I had it with nan - took a few bites but could not get through half way - just too heavy. Partner is vegetarian - he got the morel mushrooms with curry gravy . I think , a different more meatier mushroom (? Portobello ) would be better . WOOOWWW , saw this trending Indian restaurant and it lived up to its hype. Definitely check it out if you in the city . Loved the ambiance of this place it was unique and everything was imported from India. We got seated right away , and it was packed for a Tuesday night. Reservation is definitely recommend. Food was good but nothing was particular spectacular. I would reorder everything, except for the Lamb Nagrisi Kofta. It was a weird texture, somewhat like a meatball that was packed way too tightly. There was no lamb flavor either, almost tasted like fake/vegan meat. It was lowkey weird. But I enjoyed every other dish we ordered, which were the Gupchup, Paneer, and Flambe Chicken. The flavors were on point and nothing was over the top. The Garlic Naan dipped into the Paneer might have been my favorite part of the night. The best Indian food I think I've ever had!! To be honest, I was a bit skeptical at the beginning - the restaurant was empty when we came in on a Saturday, service was a bit slow to start, and they were out of the entree I wanted. But the food was so incredible that everything else can be overlooked. To drink, I couldn't resist getting 2 cocktails: the Mumtaz Meri Jaan (vodka/citrus based) and the Dona Paula's Kiss (think spicy margarita mixed with ginger...but not too spicy) - both were good! The food is outstanding. The Jalebi Chaat and Chili Gobi are musts: my friend and I both agreed that the gobi dish was our favorite of the evening. Perfectly crispy and so flavorful. They were sadly out of the Aloo Gobi Kofta that I wanted as my entree, so I opted for the Daal and the Palak Sabz (which was another favorite if the evening). I would give my experience a 4/5. Food was great. Between 2 people, we ordered the sharabi chicken tikka and the butter chicken with garlic naan. The presentation of the sharabi chicken was great and it was juicy and spicy. The butter chicken was also good and enough for 2 people to share. I'm knocking one point off for service. Our waitress was a little rude when we first sat down. The servers were a little unorganized too. After one server brought out our app and applied the flambé, two minutes later another server came to us to let us know he is going to flambé it. read more
