My partner and I had a reservation for our anniversary before an event at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. When we arrived, our server immediately wished us a happy anniversary and brought out two complimentary glasses of champagne. This little gesture started the meal on a great note, and both our servers were so helpful and kind to us. We ordered: - 2 oysters off their happy hour menu (I believe 4-7 everyday) - chicken wing confit off happy hour menu (these were INCREDIBLE. Highly recommend) - sea bass crudo - a bone marrow special that was delightful At one point, our server brought us the pork belly appetizer. We flagged him down a minute or two later to say we didn't order this and he said "that was our mistake. You're welcome to it now!" It ended up being the perfect amount of food for us. Everything was delicious and very reasonably priced for a nice date spot in a popular part of Brooklyn. But the friendliness of and little touches from our servers really pushed this from 4 stars to 5, plus the ambiance was lovely - good music playing at a reasonable decibel where we didn't feel like we had to compete w the volume of the music or other people's conversations. Was at the Brooklyn botanic garden, looking for a post visit restaurant nearby and came upon Arden. Reservations were full but I called and they accommodated the request with 2 held seats at the bar. Well worth the 10 min Citibike over from the garden. Food was exquisite. We had the carrots special with labneh, salmon tartare to start. Then main course of roti chicken and closed with lemon tart. Start to finish it was delicious. Vibe is low key and relaxed, easy lighting, not too loud. Heard a lot about the restaurants popping up in crown heights and happy to see it first hand. read more

My family and I came here early in the evening on a visit to Brooklyn and the Botanic gardens. The owner met us at the door and was more than happy to seat us even though we didn't have a reservation. This is one of those rare places where everyone in the family was exclaiming about every dish. The skirt steak was perfectly cooked and the peri peri chicken was delicious. The highlight was definitely the seared salmon. The balance of salt and the glaze with the mild salmon was superb. The drinks were good, and the owner recommended a particular Italian wine that my wife couldn't stop talking about it. We let our two teenagers drink some so they could see what good wine should taste like. We have been walking by for months and finally stopped in for dinner. What a wonderful surprise! We loved the menu so much that we almost ordered every appetizer. The pork belly melts in your mouth and should not be missed. Same goes for the beet carpaccio salad. It was a flavor and texture explosion from the first bite- tangy and sweet, soft and crunchy. My husband ordered the pork chop and was not disappointed, as he is usually upset with portion sizes, this did not disappoint. My friend was visiting and suggested we eat at this place and it did not disappoint! They've only been open for 3 months but the service was unmatched. I don't think I've ever been to a place where the owner was so involved and accommodating and also brought the chef out to us at the end of the meal. I am only judging Arden by their Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. Someone in the kitchen needs to go to Nashville and find out what a Nashville Hot chicken sandwich is - and how to prepare it. What landed on my plate was a stringy, tough piece of chicken poorly coated, and clearly, it had not been brined. No Nashville spice was evident. Instead a sticky sweet store-bought commercial Thai chilli sauce was poured over it. It was gross. My only disappointing meal in my week in NYC. read more

I eat vegetarian/seafood, so they caught my eye. I had the shrimp appetizer, which was rich, creamy with a nudge of spice. I then had the hen of woods, the dish that initially piqued my interest. It was savory, smoothe, salty and sublime. For kale lovers, it will be perfect. I then had a taste of the chocolate cake. Enough said, I had only a taste because anything more would have lead to devouring the plate entire. The service did not match the excellence of the food. We arrived at our selected 7:45pm to a crowded restaurant. They explained there would be a wait and offered a drink in the meantime. A kind gesture. After finally procuring a seat, we were then forgotten. Several parties were seated after us but tended to ahead of us. Eventually one of the owners rushed over, and I must say, went the extra kilometer. Comp'd drinks and dessert! They get it. Even on busy nights the customer must come first. The food was absolutely delicious. I wish our service matched the phenomenal energy of our meal. Our waiter yelled at us and told us he "would never have seated us" if he saw my partner's service dog who was strapped inside a bag and tucked away from the table. He didn't ask us any questions that would legitimate the service dog's presence or offer other solutions besides frantically and aggressively speaking down on us and insinuating we leave. We absolutely understand the need to protect his job and follow the rules that are in place at the establishment. However there are legal rules that ALL establishments must follow in regard to actual service animals trained for public spaces. He immediately went to raising his voice and attempting to shame us publicly for a non-issue that could have easily been remedied if he asked for the paperwork that we carry. For this to be a business based in a predominantly Black and Brown community, and us being the only Black people present, I would bring your money elsewhere that honors you as a customer, community member, human being, and/or disabled person. First time here for dinner and we were so pleasantly surprised by how excellent it is! Surprised because so many places have opened in this area that have been a disappointment and pricey. We had the brick chicken and a fish and chips special and both were excellent, especially the chicken, with its tropical piri piri seasoning. The meals were delicious and deeply satisfying. Had an excellent time here on Valentine's Day! The staff was very gracious with our belated arrival (they mentioned the table was "reserved" again 90 minutes later, and I greatly appreciated the transparency). The servers were attentive with taking our initial order, and the beverage director was very knowledgeable and friendly. The bone marrow appetizer and my fiancé's pork chop were absolutely two of my fave dishes in the last 12 months, and even the roasts potatoes were to die for. The duck special was lovely - just not quite as mind-blowing as the other dishes! They missed an opportunity to sell me a dessert with a little lull in service, but it was V-day at 8PM so I really can't fault them! It ended up costing about $200 (duck special, pork chop, potatoes, bone marrow & a bottle of wine) - I'm sure we could have saved a little if we'd tried harder, and I understand they have a daily happy hour (5-7)! Any establishment that plays Talking Heads will get five stars from me (almost any). The music set the vibe perfectly, and the food matched. It was delicious. This was my first time at Arden! It's a new restaurant in Crown Heights! Loved it! The atmosphere was perfect for happy hour, friend date, or intimate date night. Staff was friendly and attentive. My first dine out experience in Brooklyn since the pandemic. It did not disappoint. Started with the appetizers of grilled marrowbone and the pork belly. Yes, it was that good - we had another order of the marrowbone. Mains were individual bowls of bouillabaisse and linguine with clams. Was bummed to hear Gladys closed but this restaurant now in the old Gladys location is really stellar. We were seated at the bar as we didn't have any reservations. Service was great from the hostess to the bartending staff and wait staff, they were all super nice and welcoming. After much back and forth, we had the happy hour oysters, Sea Bass Crudo, the Pork Belly, the Brick Chicken, Roasted Carrots and the Lemon tart. All of them were delicious and on point.
