I went to Arden for the first time back in August 2023 and I was excited based on the reviews I read. I made a reservation for two at 8:30pm on Friday night. Once my friend and I arrived on time, we were told they were running behind due to another tables order being delayed. The host informed us that we'd have to wait another 15-20 minutes which wasn't as bad as I thought and she offered us to sit at the bar and have a drink on the restaurant due to this slight inconvenience. After sitting at the bar, it did take some time for the bartender to inquire if we wanted to order a drink, but it was obviously a busy night for the restaurant, so we took that time to look at the menu. For cocktails, I ordered the Seen & Not Seen and my friend ordered the Red Roses For Me. They were both were pretty good! A few moments later, the host sat us at our table and we ordered our appetizer Chicken Wing Confit, which had a lot of flavor and the tamarind sauce was spicy yet sweet which was a great balance with the pickled veggies. For our entrees we both ordered the Brick Roasted Giannone Chicken dish with a side of Tuscan Potatoes to share. The chicken could've been baked or pan fried a little more, since I like a crisper skin, The jalapeño peach chutney with the corn with the chicken was a great flavor pairing as well, different but I enjoyed it! I came here to check out the place. I was with a friend and they started us out at the bar and then we moved to a table within 10 mins. We had reservations- I recommend them. We started with the crudo - for me this was one of the best dishes of the night. The mussels and cod were next - I will say all the food was fresh and thoughtfully prepared however it all seemed rather forgettable by the end. I did enjoy the space and atmosphere and it's a chic spot to get a drink and an appetizer. Just went to my new favorite spot in Brooklyn for the second time in two weeks: Arden. Everything from the drinks to the dessert was beyond delicious, fresh, and thoughtfully crafted. The menu is interesting without being pretentious, and you can tell a lot of care goes into each dish. The owner is so sweet and personable, it really makes the whole experience feel special. We started with the cucumber thyme cocktail (SO refreshing), and the salmon tartare, which was so good we ordered it twice and lucky us, it was happy hour so it was half off! For my main, I had the Hen of the Woods mushroom dish and absolutely devoured it. Perfectly cooked, deeply flavorful, and beautifully plated. Just when we thought we were done, the owner tempted us into dessert and we caved...thank god we did because the cheesecake was incredible. Arden is a gem!! I can't wait to go back. Upscale American bar and restaurant. My wife and I had dinner here on a Thursday evening after a visit to the Brooklyn Museum. We were seated immediately. They had a nice bar with a fair selection of wines, some house cocktails, and a few local craft beers on draft. Atmosphere was welcoming yet it certainly had more of a trendy feel. Food wise, we started with the chicken wings. They were served in a sweet and spicy scotch bonnet sauce. Really delicious, Cantonese-American style sauce. The wings had what I'd call a thin and crispy Korean style fry to them. Absolutely perfect in my opinion. Chicken wings were my favorite item of the evening and included in the happy hour special at $11 for five pieces. They were served with a lightly pickled assorted veggie slaw. For the main course, I had the happy hour burger which included a serving of beer. I believe the draft pours were about a cup (approximately 8 oz). The special was $23 and I had another happy hour pour of their Pilsner ($6), so I figure I had a 4 oz burger and a full pint for $29. Burger was cooked medium well and had a nice sear on it. Star of the burger were the toppings: the kimchi slaw and the house sauce. It came with thick cut fries with an interesting vinegar seasoning. Service was attentive and helpful. Popped into Arden on a weeknight around 7pm. It's a really beautiful, airy place with wraparound windows. We shared the octopus appetizer and the steak. I worry sometimes when dishes have a lot of ingredients. I didn't need to be. The octopus was so tender and served on top of crumbled merguez which gave the dish a nice saltiness. The steak was equally spectacular. The uber crunchy onions on top were addicting. The mash and mushrooms were perfectly seasoned. We wiped that dish clean. The sticky toffee pudding was delish too. Occupying the space where Glady's once was and that has stood empty since June 2021; and owned by Scott Dansby and Mark Mata, who first met at the now closed East Village Mermaid Inn[1], Arden may actually offer the best food you can get on Franklin Avenue. Arden has a cozy, unpretentious vibe, massive windows, and features a spectacular wood fire grill. This is a great place for a low-key yet impressive date, celebrate an anniversary, or to catch up with friends. Walk-ins are welcome, but since the space is small I highly recommend you make a reservation online[2], or you come after 9pm. The drinks menu features inventive cocktails, and and extremely well curated wine list. In fact, Mr. Dansby will gladly provide excellent wine suggestions. For starters we had the wonderful Little Gems & Chicories salad, and the super-flavorful Broiled Oysters Kilpatrick. Our main dishes were the Amish Pork Chop and the Crispy Skate. I loved the grilled cabbage in the pork chop, and the skate is a fantastic dish that also looks amazing with the watermelon radish. We finished our dinner with the Lemon Curd Tart, which was brought to us directly by chef Mata. Service was spectacular. We were actually given free drinks because the guests in front of us took longer than expected to finish their dinner and free up our table, and Mr. Dansby also gave us complimentary glasses of wine at the end of our dinner. Took 1 look at the menu & realized i was in hostile territory when I looked at the menu & saw nothing but some trivial side dishes , for vegetarians. Finally had the chance to try this very cute corner spot. Tastefully decorated, loved the bar seating which had comfort in mind with coat hooks and a foot rest ! Great music selection and lighting. Someone who seemed to be the owner was very accommodating. The bartender was also very cool and made his recommendations was on point with his mixology. They have a happy hour from 5-7pm. We had the salmon tartare which was amazing ! Layered with radishes,a tart seasoning and crispy onions it was perfect and fresh. The Arden burger was also a hit. the fries were perfect , loved the kimchi seasoning on the burger. I also love that they have happy hour on the weekends and that it goes until 7! We each got the Surfin Bird which I was skeptical of at first because it had cinnamon in it - but you don't taste the cinnamon at all! Our waitress also stopped by our table a few minutes before 7 to see if we wanted to get another round in before happy hour ended which is SO NICE. I HATE when restaurants purposely avoid you / don't want you to get another HH drink in in time. Just a testament to the incredible service here. We also got the crudo which was DELICIOUS. I haven't stopped thinking about it ... We got the bone marrow toast which I could honestly do without next time. I'd love to try another item ! Really lovely atmosphere for a date night or intimate dinner with friends. The restaurant is small and seating is pretty close together but the ambience is ~dark/vibey~. We arrived before 7pm on a Saturday so we got to enjoy two drinks and the chicken confit from the happy hour menu. The drinks were yummy for a good price and the chicken had a crunchy crispy exterior with a nice kick in the sauce, but the chicken could've been more tender. The side pickled veggies were way too sour and salty though. For our mains we split the broccoli rabe, pork belly, and seafood stew special (I'm forgetting the name). For the Pork belly, the fat was rendered nicely, but meat a little tougher than I would like and needs a bit more salt. The side salad was very intense but good maybe good in the same bite as pork belly. The broccoli rabe was solid. The seafood stew was a great dish on a rainy day, the soup had a bit of a bitter taste though? And the portion size was quite small for the price. I'm so excited about this fantastic restaurant addition to Franklin Avenue. This is a great new spot for trendy dining, amazing food, and friendly service. The service was even better than expected considering they recently opened. Just make sure you make a reservation! We ordered the following in no particular order, but starting with my favorite: Hamachi Crudo The standout winner dish for me. It's packed with flavor, super fresh, and tastes better than items I've had at sushi restaurants. If you like sushi/sashimi, it's a must try. Leo Rising A cocktail with rye whiskey, allspice dram, black tea, & bitters. Perfectly balanced drink that was so good it left us wanting another. Charred Asparagus When the dish arrived, I immediately tried to negotiate complete ownership of the entire six minute egg (on top of the asparagus) vs. sharing it with my wife. I also immediately lost and had to share it. The egg and charred asparagus with miso aioli was all so savory we'd definitely order it again. Heirloom Carrots This dish is both beautiful and delicious. The multi-colored carrots with labneh-dukkah were cooked to perfection. I wouldn't say I love carrots, but these carrots - love. Tuscan Chips Imagine the best potatoes you've ever had and now try these! They were crispy, moist, and had just the right firmness. A little light on the salt, but that was an easy fix. Crispy Skate This was my wife's favorite dish. The skate was fresh, well-seasoned, and not oily. The salad on top was nice addition to balance out the fried fish. It's a good-sized portion. I recommend sharing it so you can try more items on the menu. Hollander Mussels It was good, but we liked the all of the other dishes better. Lemon Curd Tart Just the right amount of sweetness and lemony flavor to end the meal on a high note. If you can't decide what to order, just ask for Scott, and he'll steer you in the right direction. I am way less enthusiastic about Arden than the Crown Heights community. Arden is a tiny restaurant that can get very cramped. Bar stools are uncomfortable, and it can get noisy. I began with the Octopus. The Octopi were overcooked, and the sauce had way too much spice. My Mussels were not very fresh, and the toast points were Pepperidge Farm whole wheat sliced bread. Arden makes me want to live near Arden. We stoped in here after a quick look at local restaurants when we were visiting the Brooklyn Museum and I was blown away. One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Great drinks, great staff, great food. Even though we were only in the area for a few more days, I made sure to visit for brunch too, which was also so great. This place was everything I could hope for from a local favorite restaurant.... We made friends with the people at the tables next to me because we were pointing at each other's food and starting conversations and throughly enjoying the atmosphere. Our waitress was awesome and the owner stopped by, and we felt like we got to know him too. Such a friendly environment and the food.... The food was so great. We got our appetizer a sea bass crudo, that made me want to cancel the rest of the order and just get more of that... But I'm glad I didn't. Also got the Jerk Salmon and the carrots. Both were also amazing. A couple days later, we went for brunch and got the ricotta, the fried chicken sandwich, and the French toast. Thank you to the staff for being so welcoming.... Arden is a small, casual corner restaurant in the heart of Crown Heights with some unique takes on familiar menu items {Hidden Fjord Jerk Spiced Salmon?...maybe a tough sell to my Norwegian Grandfather but... Brooklyn!} On to the Chop... A substantial heritage pork chop cut thick, nice fat, most likely brined and grilled with a BBQ rub and on a bed of Dandelion greens with fat butter beans. This is a man sized chop with bold seasonings and while not a great fan of butter beans the slightly rough texture of the beans with what has to be some thinly sliced apples really did it for me..... The chop was cooked through but so tender and savory all the way to the bone which I polished off. A excellent piece of pork with very refined flavors.
