We got: - raw oysters (creamy and buttery, and the nuoc chan mignonette is addictive) - cast-iron shrimp (delicious and garlicky) - the pierogies (great, more subtle and surprisingly light) - the bone marrow (great if a little overwhelmingly fatty) - the ribeye special for two (unbelievably good) Excellent cocktails too. I'm a bit delayed in writing this, I came here for dinner with a friend, before attending a Jill Scott concert at the King Theater. We made a reservation, and were sat promptly, then given menus. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The environment is very cute for sure, but I can't say the same for the service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The best way to describe our server was cold and distant. She seemed completely disinterested in serving our table. What stood out most was the noticeable difference in how she interacted with another table of white women who were seated next to us. They were greeted with warmth, attentiveness, and genuine enthusiasm... something both my friend and I noticed repeatedly throughout our meal. In contrast, our interactions felt rushed, impersonal, and distant. It was not terribly busy either, so I can't excuse it. At this price point, I expect every guest to receive the same level of hospitality and care. Instead, we were left feeling overlooked and unwelcome, which put a real damper on what was otherwise a lovely meal. The drinks were... ok. There was nothing that stood out per se, and I LOVE a dinner cocktail. The Painkiller for $15, did not.. in fact, kill my pain, and maybe I should've ordered something else. Who knows! It would've been lovely to receive the happy hour menu before we ordered drinks and apps. But I digress... To speak of the food, we ordered the Ricotta & Potato Pierogis and the Miso Glazed Eggplant for apps, and two Arden Burgers for mains. I'm going to say that the flavor of everything was very good, however, the pricing was varied and didn't make much sense. The pierogi dish we ordered was an appetizer at $22. It came with two pieces. The dish was creamy, with small pieces of Chantelle's and asparagus - which bump up the price, and it was quite tasty. But for that price point I would've expected four pieces. Three at the minimum for the sake of presentation at least. It honestly looked depressing when it came to the table. However the taste was excellent. There was also a main course option of this for $38. Which I'm assuming that comes with four pieces? So $9.50 a dumpling? It's a little egregious... just a touch. The miso glazed eggplant (a side dish) was divine, it was a great portion for $11. The Ginger scallion sauce was just impeccable and it really saturated into the eggplant. The jalapeños really took it up a notch. Salty, spicy, and herbaceous. I actually think this price could be bumped up by two-three dollars for the size of the side dish that was received. I would order this again even for even more money. The Arden Burgers were just ok. At $26 each, as we both got bacon, however it was beyond crispy (some people love this), it was dead. It felt like falling apart sheet rock in a home demolition. The burger meat was prepared well and the onions were slowly caramelized to perfection. The fries were the star of the dish. The malt vinegar on them was so delicious, and for the price point, it was equitable for what was received. Honestly, the food is the only reason I'm giving this restaurant three stars. If I were rating the experience based on service alone, it would be one. Your staff could benefit from training on treating every guest with the same level of hospitality, regardless of whether they fit the image of the clientele you seem to prefer. The difference in service was extremely noticeable and deeply disappointing and this is something that deserves serious attention. I don't know if I'll be back, and I don't know if I'd recommend this. Oh hey, new favorite happy hour. First and foremost, Arden is an outstanding restaurant. It is the perfect, adorable size, and it's staffed by lovely people who want to bring you all the delicious food and drink, and do quite a good job (even though they may ask you twice about everything). And the food and drink is delicious. The cocktails are on point (their Painkiller is perfect) and fun and festive, and the food is even better. They are pumping all kinds of tasty treats out of the open kitchen. The wedge salad is outstanding. The brick chicken is special (and I love that they use the same Giannone farm chickens that I get from my butcher). But neither reaches the otherworldly delicious heights of the Red Wattle Pork Chop (it deserves capitalization). It is simply the platonic ideal of a pork chop. Served over a celery root puree, glazed in smoked peach and nduja, and a peach mostarda...basically, gnawing the last bit of meat off its bone was one of the best things I've tasted in recent memory. And that's before I even get into the happy hour! From 5-7 every day, you can eat truly affordable snacks like the watermelon salad (a little heat from the habanero honey lime dressing), a great burger slider (smaller version of their great one), a oyster slider (even better), and our favorite, the crispy rice topped with hamachi, jalapeno, and a truffle soy glaze. The hamachi may even rival the pork chop as my favorite bite of the evening. Also, a few excellent cocktails (like the Painkiller) are $11 during happy hour. Get yourself over here for a great meal, and end it with the sticky toffee pudding, because salted caramel can never be bad. read more

This is a charming little spot in Brooklyn. I visited on a Saturday night and was glad I called ahead, as there was over an hour-long wait for the bar. Luckily, I was able to put my name down in advance. The ambiance is lovely, with dim lighting that's perfect for a date night. Starting with the food, I began with the pork belly. The flavors were excellent--perfectly cooked with just the right texture and a hint of spice, balanced nicely by the coleslaw. This dish set high expectations for the rest of the meal. Next came the salmon tartare, which, unfortunately, fell short. The way the salmon was cut made the texture unappealing, and the accompanying wasabi and avocado-based sauce didn't pair well with the dish. It's something I could have skipped. Moving on to the salmon entrée, I had high hopes for the combination of escovitch vegetables, curry purée, and couscous. However, the flavors didn't come together well, and the dish was overwhelmingly salty. While the salmon itself was perfectly cooked, the excessive salt overshadowed it. Still, I was hungry enough to eat it anyway. I ended the meal with the toffee, which was the highlight of the night. It was a satisfying way to conclude the experience, especially after the ups and downs of the other dishes. It's too bad this dessert is seasonal--I'd definitely return just for that! read more

Thoughtful and attentive staff, good ambiance without being over the top, and a great menu. Wife and I were both able to find a couple of items we definitely wanted, and will be back for the other items. Pork chop was exceptional and pared with the hot pepper created an unexpected dish. Arden has been on my list ever since I discovered the restaurant accidentally when I lost my phone in Crown Heights one day and a kind patron found my phone and I had to come to the restaurant to retrieve it. I'm a big foodie so shortly after recovering my phone I googled the menu options and remained curious about Arden's offerings. The menu from just reading it sounded delicious, I came during happy hour so I tried out the crab cake slider. The crab cake slider was just fine 8/10 but nothing mind blowing, I found that the crab within the crab cake to be just slightly dry. The Caesar salad was flavorful and fresh I would rate 8.5 leaning towards 9 out of 10. My only critique would be I felt like the bitter leafy greens didn't really complement the salad and the dressing was missing something but overall very tasty it is slightly overdressed but I like my salad overdressed. Lastly, the pork chop it was delicious and smoky and the caramelized onions were so buttery, sweet and full of flavor. The pork chop had a taste to it that gave me waves of nostalgia and reminded me of a rustic home cooked meal with a little bit of a spicy kick from the peppers. Would rate a 9.5/10 Also the service was a 10/10 I sat at the bar but I still received top quality service and attention.
