On our last day in the Northwest, my sister and I got to spend some time in Anchorage. Our Uber driver recommended Arctic sushi, so we decided to check it out for dinner. We had Jacob as our server, and he was phenomenal. It wasn't busy on a random Monday night, and he came over and talked to us several times. This place has some incredible sushi rolls to offer and definitely hit the spot. If you're in the Anchorage area, I would highly recommend some Alaskan sushi. Sushi: 9.1 Service: 9.5 Scale system 10/10 would be what I want for my last meal 9.9-9.3 driving out of my way to get this 9.2-8.0 like the place and would go back 7.9-7.0 I would come here again if it were presented and don't have anything bad to say 6.9 and below - thanks but no thanks after trying once

Very clean, quiet restaurant! Definitely worth a try. I got the chicken fried rice but the rest of my group got a few different sushi types and were very impressed. It was not busy so the waiter was very attentive and kind. Also give the red bean ice cream a try!!

Very flavorful Yakasoba. Staff was very friendly and prompt. I will be returning to try something new. Small business and was clean and quiet, focused on quality not so much ambiance.

Go! It's pricey , but worth it. Lot of flavor that's for sure. We had miso, spicy tuna roll , the Anchorage roll and veggie tempura . All 5 stars !

Hot Saki for cold evenings!

When I first pulled up outside I thought the place was closed because it was hella dark. Walked in and asked them if they were open. I wasn't sure because I was the only one here... I can honestly tell you I've been to the Arctic and the sushi place in Barrow had more light than this place. Sat at a high table first and felt short so I moved to a regular one. Immediately noticed the table and the environment felt sticky to my touch and smelled like a burnt kitchen. I ordered the large hot saki, typical hot saki nothing fancy. Wow! That menu.. not very helpful without pictures and those prices for even basic rolls are crazy high! So I stuck to one roll for this visit, the baked salmon roll. Unfortunately it was not as tasty as I expected. Received one pice of ginger with the roll. Not impressive. I've had awesome baked salmon rolls... in other places... you pay your check near the door. Did just that... $37.00 later bowed out and moved on to Benihana, which is right down the street!

The 2 plates we tried were good, no complaints. However, the restaurant just looked/felt dirty. Everything felt greasy, including clean dishes. Service was quick. We were the 1st ones there at opening.

Dutch Harbor roll

Great little place! The Dutch Harbor roll was fantastic. The owner does all of the cooking so it took a little time to get our orders. We weren't in a hurry so didn't mind the wait. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. If you're looking for something fancy, keep looking. If you want a yummy meal with no frills, this is the place to go. I'd definitely eat there again.

Nirigi Salmon

Ciao every one! While in Anchorage on a overnight, I gave this sushi place a try. Overall all a good menu; Japanese and Korean items. Prices are mid range, average roll is $14.00 I started with a Miso soup, it was fine nothing special. The Hawaiian Tuna Poki was delicious. Very fresh tasting, with a nice spicy kick. The Salmon Nirigi was outstanding. Great flavors and super fresh fish. I finished my meal with the Fried Roll Kozebue Roll. A little plain, lacked that wow feeling yet it was tasty. Give this place a try if you are in the area. In the mean time keep eating yummy food! Arrivederci!

The pros- the sushi was good, albeit pricey- more pricey than the other sushi joints we've been to in Anchorage. The cons- service was atrocious, we only received 3 of the 4 rolls we ordered, never got refills, and had to go to the cash register to pay. I'll add we were THE ONE AND ONLY table in the place too!

Veggie ramen
Paula L.

The place has an okay atmosphere. Nothing special. A square with thick wood tables and wood paneling. We only got the deep fried tofu, a rainbow II roll and an order of veggie ramen. The tofu was very light and delicate. Not much flavor served with a season soy sauce. The rainbow roll was very good. The ramen was tasty. We enjoyed our food.

Fresh fish. A little pricey. Denali roll is very creative and worth a try. Udon and lunch box are mediocre

I was looking at the beverage menu saw, Sapporo, okay great beer for a Sushi experience. I guess after looking over the Sushi offerings, it was hard to find a clean roll. Clean roll, to me means, no imitation crab in their roll. The one clean roll was the Spider Roll which we got 2 of. Of the 5 rolls we got the Spider was the favorite to me, I got the Hot Lava Roll not my favorite, but my wife ordered the Crazy Devil Roll it was good, and another clean roll was what my daughter got the 911 Roll. We all shared amongst the 3 of us. Something else missing was, miso soup or a ginger salad staples at Japanese Sushi places. Daughter's husband got Teriyaki Chicken, not a sushi guy Lol! I did get him to eat 1/2 a Spider Roll piece. Overall a 3.5 for Sushi, but ambiance 4.5. What I'd like more is clean sushi offerings, Naruto style, and a must have Unagi (Eel), Sweet Shrimp w/deep fried heads, Toro (Yellow Fin Tuna), and maybe some Alaskan Crab! Imitation crab is for newbie/beginners. Also too many offerings of cooked Tempura Shrimp added to many raw rolls. Elevate your Sushi Game!

I had the dragon roll. It's basically a California roll with eel on top. I enjoyed the crunch of the cucumber and the glaze was perfect and not too sweet. The sesame chicken was not on the menu but we were still able to order it. Even though it was coated in a honey sauce, the breaded chicken was still crunchy. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was very juicy and tender. The server was very nice and efficient.

On a cold day, this…read moreis exactly the kind of meal that makes sense--warming, steady, and satisfying without trying too hard. The space has a modern Japanese minimalist aesthetic--clean lines, warm lighting, and a refined calm that feels both welcoming and quietly upscale. It's thoughtfully designed without being cold, striking a balance between contemporary elegance and comfort. Shabu-shabu here is on the pricier side, but the portioning justifies it. The small shabu-shabu easily feeds three to four people, especially when shared properly, and nothing about it felt skimpy or rushed. Three visits in, it continues to deliver!

We used to come here when this place was Peter's Sushi Spot, the inside has not changed hugely…read moresince then, except maybe for the hot plates on the tables, should you wish to have shabu shabu. The hot plates are spotlessly clean, I did notice, and there were instructions on the wall on how to cook shabu shabu. We used to come for the Tempura Udon which was spectacular. We were seated very quickly, and water was brought out. I decided to go with my benchmark dish, which always gives me some idea of whether I will return or not, and ordered chicken fried rice, husband got the tempura udon, so he could compare with the previous Udon we used to get here. I noticed that their soft drinks are only $2 which is an excellent price in my opinion. I got a Canada Dry as I love ginger ale. His Udon came out quite quickly, and we could instantly tell that the broth did not have the same depth of flavour, as when we used to come here, (it was quite smoky and very umami) and this one has a distinctly seaweed tang. Thats not to say that it's bad, it's just different. The noodles are also not quite so dense, chewy or toothsome. Additionally the tempura was somewhat of a letdown. The shrimps were very slimline compared to the display on the tv. There was an onion ring, that was also quite thin. Just not a good representation of tempura. Also, comparing with the Udon that used to be here, you also got a cup of miso soup, and a small salad with a carrot orange dressing. Those are gone. As for my chicken fried rice, well the presentation was excellent, it came on a beautiful plate, and looked very appetizing. The first couple of bites were really nice, plenty of carrots, broccoli, chicken, however I soon started encountering tender crisp onions. Which I cannot eat. They give me violent stomach pains. I can only eat onions that have been cooked down to almost mush. Anything raw or that has any element of crunch to it is a no-go, as it will make me ill. I found it somewhat unusual, as I get fried rice all over town and have never encountered chunky onions before. I'm sure I could have asked them to leave them out had I known they were going to be in there. It tasted good, for sure, but having to continually move the onions aside (and there was a lot of onions) was offputting. Normally when i get fried rice, I eat some, and take the rest in a to go box. I did not take the rest home this time which is very telling. Anyway, service was excellent, and they were very attentive - for instance our server saw that my husband was giving me a spoonful of his udon, and without being asked he came over with an extra spoon, small bowl, and a ladle, which I thought was very thoughtful. I cannot fault the staff.

Very nice staff and attentive and judging by all the people that waited to get in at opening, they are popular. The atmosphere was pleasant enough, clean and good lighting. Back to the ramen, I know I said it was good but I've lived in Hawaii where there are many ramen restaurants and was looking for different flavor profiles for their broth that I have found on the islands perhaps. This is definitely a "me thing" as I have a couple of friends who absolutely love this place. I would come again since Anchorage's options are limited as well as I know I'll receive good service.

Overall SOLID 4 Stars!…read more There are about half dozen Japanese restaurants in Anchorage, and after reviewing them on Yelp, we decided to visit this establishment. Ambiance 4 Stars - The restaurant is quaint and has limited seating (about dozen tables) and 6 bar seats. When you entered, the decorum feels like you have been transported to Japan and are eating at a local restaurant for the average hardworking people. I felt comfortable and relaxed. Lucky for us, we were able to be seated immediately because when it gets busy, there will be line out the door. And in 20 degree weather, that's not my cup of "matcha" tea. LOL! Service 4 Stars - I believe the restaurant is family owned and operated. Limited staff but the friendly, fast and efficient. Our server recommended several dishes which we ordered on a cold night. Only "ding" to our server was she didn't ask about our drinks. We were served water but she didn't take our drink order which was fine because of the yummy noodle broth we ordered. This place specializes in Japanese noodles, so don't expect a Hibachi show or variety of different sushi options. Their sushi option is very limited and you are not going to order teriyaki chicken with fried rice here. The star of the show are Japanese inspired noodle dishes and Katsu (deep fried Pork or Chicken). Food SOLID 4 Stars - We ordered Four dishes 1. 3 Stars - Pork Katsu - deep fried panko coated Pork with a tiny accompaniment of sliced cabbage. The Tonkatsu sauce (made of ketchup, soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, Worcestershire sauce, ginger, and garlic), was liberally squeezed on the top of the dish. It was good but parts of the meat was slightly dry and the panko had a slight burnt taste to it. Possibly it was left in the fryer a little bit longer than it should. 2. 4 Stars - Kimchi Pork Tonkutso Miso Ramen Kimchi inspired w Chasu (pork belly), bean sprouts, green onions, one halved hard boiled egg, garlic flakes and ramen noodles. The ramen were al dente, had a slight chewy texture and it was a great way to soaked up the Miso broth. The miso broth was light and clear. Not as fatty or heavy as some other broths can be but had a wonderful flavor due to the other ingredients in it. This dish is loaded with Kimchi, so it might get a spicy. The Pork Katsu was a great palate cleanser to the kimchi heat. 2. 4 Stars Shoyu Ramen - same ingredients as above without the Kimchi. Also, is it chicken broth with soy sauce. The broth is light, slightly salty, and darker due to the added soy sauce. 3. 4 Stars Naruto Udon - chicken broth, shiitake mushrooms, freshly ground ginger and garlic, seaweed paper, green onions and bean sprouts. The rice based Udon noodles were thick and slippery. At times, they are hard to use with the chopsticks. The chicken broth has a wonderful Umami taste due to the earthy shiitake mushrooms. If you want more a vegetarian meal, this dish is the one. Even though they serve noodle soup dishes, don't forget to try their Japanese / Korean Curry dishes too. I will definitely be back to taste their curry dishes or appetizers like Gyoza and possibly get the Pork Katsu again just to try one more time. Also, there is a Combo Option for additional cost. I combine the Pork Katsu with the Kimchi Tonkutso for an additional $7. Check with your server or look on the menu. The prices and dish items may change later on. Enjoy!

On top of that, no server checked up on our table nor did they ask if we wanted any refills. There were literally servers just walking around, not doing anything. On top of that we had to ask someone to get our check because we were just done. Never eating here again if the service is like this. The orange chicken was good and so was the mongolian beef. We came in on Saturday around 4pm. We were seated right away, and handed menus. No one came to get our drink order for about 12 minutes, we had decided that at the 15 minute mark we would leave and go somewhere else. After getting drinks, two sodas. We put in our order. A mango roll and orange chicken with rice. Aside from our food being brought to our table no one came to check on us again. Our $3 sodas never got refilled. Our water never got refilled. The mango roll was really good. But the orange chicken was really bland. In the past I would rave about the orange chicken here. This meal was a total let down. The chicken had minimal flavor, the orange sauce they used appeared poured on at the end and watered down.
