This was a Doordash order. If I was to base this review on the eggrolls it would be one star. So don't get them. It's the first little box you're probably gonna open and it's gonna make you mad. They're $10 for two eggrolls the size of your finger. They were unremarkable and should've been two dollars. I was ready to be pissed off about the rest of the food, but I was pleased. I got the chicken lo mein, and it was absolutely delicious. The noodles were the perfect consistency. The chicken was tender, and I was not expecting that, and the veggies were perfect. It was so freaking good. I was also ready for the sesame chicken to be meh. Or at least hurt my mouth. It was soft, perfect battered covering perfect amount of sauce. Perfect amount of sesame seeds. White rice doesn't always grab me and there were two big scoops in the container and it's the best rice I think I've ever had and it went really well with the chicken. And the last item was a roll that had tempura shrimp, crab, avocado, eel, and then your standard spicy mayo and EL sauce. It was outstanding. The only thing I didn't like was the prices. I understand they're inflated for Doordash. I also understand that Doordash provides consistent and constant business to these places and I still don't like the prices. They are comparable to every other place in town though so understand that if you're gonna blow some money on DoorDash and sushi at least get the good stuff at Jimmy's. read more

Wow. What a disappointment. Jimmy's in Eagle River is NOTHING like the location in Anchorage. We arrived on a Sunday early in the evening after a drive on a whim. They were packed. We got the last table. We were surprised by how incredibly small the location is compared to Anchorage, especially since this location is obviously popular. The menu is significantly smaller than Anchorage. Strike one. They have none of my favorite traditional Chinese dishes that set Jimmy's apart. This truly is a sushi place. OK, noted. We opted for a bento box. The sushi was HORRIBLE. AND it came without ginger or Washbi. I mean, that's basically. Like what the hell?!? And trying to get someone to return to your table... forget it. The rest of the food in the Bento box was poorly prepared and tasteless. One item was all onions and no meat. Wished we had read the reviews first.... they ARE NOT EXAGGERATING WHEN THEY CALL IT MONGOLIAN ONIONS. It's not even green onions, its basic white slimy onions. Horrendous. Had the Angry Dragon Roll, some apps, and chicken lo mein. Complementary salad and miso soup was appreciated but the soup was pretty salty. The shrimp tempura and Rangoons were good, as was the lo mein. The angry dragon roll was eye catching but the spicy crab was too light and the spicy tuna wasn't spicy at all. This was awful. We went to go grab something in Eagleriver, however every place we would go was closed. It's been a while so we tried. Service was fast, I ordered Pad Tai, daughter ordered miso ramen (excited for fish cakes as listed on menu in ramen), and then the dinner bento with orange chicken, and bao buns. Everything came out at completely different times. We watched our Daughter eat.. then I watched everyone eat, and then my food came. First Pad Tai had over cooked shrimp, stale peanuts on the side, tofu was burnt, and in slivers. Really bad flavor and noodles were undercooked. Pieces of chicken were in there despite asking for no chicken. Didn't eat but two bites. Daughter's soup was bland, boiled egg was marinated she like that but saw no fish cakes. When the server came back he said " oh yeah no fish cakes we are out." Then say that.. don't wait for us to notice all the missing ingredients I'm paying for. The orange chicken was so crunchy there was no chicken in the middle. Breading was odd tasting. Again did not eat. Bao buns were as good as ones bought from store my daughter stated. Underwhelmed by my last visit. As is the case everywhere these days, prices have risen significantly. Sushi rolls that used to cost $15 are now $18. The most expensive sushi roll I saw on the menu was $25 which is absurd. Bubble tea and similar soft drinks cost as much as $8-10. The interior hasn't changed much at all since my last review. It feels dated and cramped, especially since half the sushi bar was closed for seating because they were keeping takeout supplies there. I ordered the ceviche don, which I don't believe was on the menu last time I visited. The flavor of the ceviche was good, but I would have preferred larger chunks of fish. I found it strange it was served over a bed of hot rice instead of seasoned sushi rice like I expected. Service was inattentive but adequate. Food arrived quickly. This may still be the best sushi option in Eagle River, but there's certainly better sushi options in Anchorage. read more

Jimmys does such a good job with sushi, bento boxes, lunch specials, etc. They have a great dumpling menu. They clearly make everything in house. How to make great choices 101: You Yelp obviously!!!!! I have been to Anchorage several times and have yet to find "That place." You know the one that's your go to anytime you're in town. We'll I just found it. Here is the breakdown: Pros: Morgan our waitress: is 100% a pro, extremely helpful, great knowledge of the menu, attentive, nice, detailed, and respectful. Sushi Chefs: Definite pros, you can see the pride they take in their work, very professional, and creative. Made up a roll for me with ingredients I requested without hesitation or discussion. Turned out to be Fabulous!!! Jimmy: A pro manager, he keeps his business current to include but not limited to the New Robot Server. That thing is amazing and a great answer to our current Covid situation makes him a real out of the box thinker. His staff also seem to think highly of him. Overall great operation. Only Cons: Extra sticky dumplings hard to manage Sashimi tuna was pretty much thawed but not completely. Obvious that we are not catching Blue Fin tuna here in Alaska so it has to be frozen to keep it safe to eat, but needed to be thawed a little better to serve as a Sashimi. I did hv a roll which had it seared, but I love my blue fin raw Those 2-things were the only thing holding me back from giving this place a 5. if I could rate it on a more detailed scale I wouldn't hesitate to give it a 4.8 Jimmy's has not seen the last of Bigmex! We've had take out here 3 times now so I cannot comment on the dine in experience. Service on the phone has always been friendly and prompt. Eagle River has limited dining options, but I definitely think this place will be added to our list for when we don't want to head into Anchorage. But, the food here is fairly average. We've had some of the sushi, and some of the Thai food options. It's called Jimmy's Sushi, but there is a lot more variance than just sushi. They definitely have a lot of different cuisines on their menu--Sushi, Chinese, Thai. I think this doesn't help them to focus so everything kind of turns out a-ok. We haven't yet tried the Chinese food entrees, but will at some point. The sushi is decent. We've had a few different type of maki and the portion size is good for the price. Their specialty rolls are fairly creative. I've ordered spicy tuna & spicy salmon, and the raw fish isn't the freshest that I've ever had so I don't think I'd ever order sashimi or nigiri. The specialty maki is pretty good. I really liked the Florida keys roll. The Thai food isn't really that good. The curry looked like soup, and didn't have much flavor. It was actually very unappetizing. The pad Thai is ok. Nothing is really spicy. I would stay away from that area of the menu. Gyoza, crab Rangoon, and egg rolls are all tasty, and aren't greasy at all. If you want to get some sushi in ER then head to Jimmy's! I'd avoid the Thai though! read more

It was my first time here, the service is friendy and the place is clean. This place smells amazing!! I was clueless on what to order because of the large menu and there wasn't too many pictures and recent reviews on Yelp! If you like spicy, you need to try the fried chicken and dried peppers. The Crab Rangoon are the best I've had in Anchorage so far and I wasn't too fond of the bacon wrapped scallops...I'm not sure why I ordered them because I don't eat bacon I'll be back!! read more

Jimmy's is one of the only places in Eagle River that has really fresh food. I get a large miso soup usually and I'm stuck on their fried rice. If we have guests over and nobody wants to cook, we grab something from Jimmy's. It's usually always slammed packed. Huge variety of sushi if you're a sushi lover. Jimmy's Sushi is the sushi place in Eagle River. The sushi is ok, the other dishes are alright, and the service tends to be hit or miss. There is only one guy that seems to work really hard as waitstaff and the rest seem like guests are interrupting their day to get the drink that was ordered 15 minutes ago. The food here was pretty average, and the service is slow and inattentive. However, just like all restaurants in Eagle River, this is normal. The tables were full, to go was busy, and there was a wait time. So there is not a lot of motivation for attitude or service to change. The food doesn't have a unique flare or have straight forward authenticity. It seems to follow the same pattern as many other sushi places in town and offer general Asian cuisine (we have sushi, Thai, Chinese, and maybe Japanese?) in order to please everyone. I get it. But nothing beats something that's just brining that authentic food. Average gets 3 stars. Service is average for Eage River. read more
