This is some great sushi and sashimi here in Eagle River/Anchorage. The tempura is done well also, not too heavy or too greasy. I don't order their Chinese or Thai foods enough to give a review. I would recommend ordering from here when you're wanting a night of exceptional fish/seafood done by a chef that knows what they're doing. It's very filling and always enough for everyone and the bubble tea is my favorite part of my dinner, I always order an extra for later... I only wish they had delivery but at least the take-out is quick. I say give them a try at least once and I'm sure you'll like the food as well. read more

If you don't live in Eagle River, either move there or go on the pretty drive to get to Jimmy Sushi. This place is great! The sushi and entrees are all absolutely delicious and everything is reasonably priced. On my last visit I got the Valentine Roll. It's a low carb version of a sushi roll because it was wrapped in a radish instead of rice and seaweed. For $13 I got tuna, salmon, crab meat and avocado, tobikko scallion all wrapped in a radish. The sauce that accompanied the roll hit home with its tangy yet subtle sweetness. I usually get the sashimi salad but I think this is my new favorite! Jimmy's takes care when making every aspect of the dish. The chicken teriyaki is a great accompaniment to a roll or enjoyed by itself. I miss having Jimmy's in Anchorage but it makes visiting an extra treat when I get a chance to make the short drive to Eagle River. It does get busy and since there are only about 10 tables and a sushi bar you may find yourself having to wait 10-15 minutes but don't let that discourage you! Enjoy :) read more

What an extensive menu! In addition to having a ton of items to choose from like Thai, Korean, and Japanese, they also have excellent descriptions with each choice. The pictures are nice too. We ordered the Gyoza, Maki, and the Red Curry Stir-Fry. All three dishes were freshly made, hot, and very tasty. The Maki is a simple sushi roll (8-10 bucks) while the more expensive rolls are the ones that have all the fancy additions and fanfare. The Curry was served with rice. I wasn't a huge fan of the asparagus chunks in the curry, but the cabbage was crunchy and the coconut milk flavor distinct. The Gyoza and the Maki were plated in a simple way. Maybe an extra dipping sauce or a piece of lettuce would dance the plate up a bit. Will definitely be back. read more

My aunt brought me here while I was visiting her in Chugiak. She said the fish is so fresh. Well She was right! When you sit down they immediately bring you hot tea and soup. No spoons, drink from the bowl. They have an extensive menu with lots of custom rolls. We are here 2 times during my stay, loved the spicy tuna tartare and the avocado tuna salad. I also got the Florida keys roll! Fantastic!!! I also ordered the salmon sashimi appetizer. It was $2 extra for all one fish, but I love the salmon. Definitely worth a try. I've given this place another shot, it's been a couple of years. I've got pros and some cons. I'll start with the cons and end on a positive note. The place is very small and dated and feels very cramped. It almost feels like it's in transition although It was the same 2 years ago. The service was quick and attentive but not overly friendly. The salmon sushi was a huge letdown. It was a giant ball of rice with a shaved piece of salmon on top. Any other place I've been has a nice chunk of salmon and some rice underneath. It just felt like a mouth full of rice and a total rip off. The best part about this was the two rolls that we got. We ordered the volcano roll which is a baked roll and it was outstanding. The second roll was golden beach, also very good. Both of them had great but different textures and flavors. Overall the rating hasn't changed and if Kim's is closed like it was last night, I would go here for the rolls again. read more

My friend and I went to Jimmy's a few weeks ago and were incredibly confused. There was no indication to seat yourself, like a sign, but no one seemed to be coming to get us. Eventually, we chose to sit at the bar. The service was good but incredibly understaffed. We had to even forage for our own menus. It appears to be THE Eagle River Sushi takeout. The sushi was good enough, but I ordered the namesake, "The Jimmy's;" and I felt the sauce overwhelmed the flavor of the sushi and took away from the sushi. My friend ordered a roll with shrimp tempura, and the tails were left in and it was COVERED in sauce, making it somewhat difficult to eat. Ultimately, Jimmy's gets presentation and takeout points, but will I be returning in a hurry? Absolutely not. I would give zero star if I could. Went there tonight hungry. I thought I should give it another chance with different menu items. They were busy so we waited about 30 min. No problems. We ordered right away once we were seated because we had enough time to look at the menu while waiting. My husband and I had some miso soup and waited a bit. The waitress had her finger in the soup when she was serving but it's okay. I'm not too picky. Soon my husband's order Mongolian beef was served. For $20, it was a lot of raw onion slices. Just tiny bit of flavorless meat and lots of raw onion slices with soy sauce. Like I said we came in very hungry. So my husband started eating first without waiting for my sashimi delux and sushi roll. I thought "how long would they need to take to slice up some raw fish and serve? Mine should come out soon." My husband finished his meal. Not satisfied with its flavor, but it was his order so he finished it. Then 15 min after eating it all, still the food was not coming out. I was getting tired and more hungry. After an hour of waiting, I finally called the server. Where is my sashimi??? They said they thought we were gonna share and that's why they served his order up first. I don't care. Even then, the order should have been out. I don't understand how hard it is to slices up some sashimi and serve it at a SUSHI restaurant. They said they will bring it out soon. After waiting for 15 min again, the server walked by us and said "you still don't have your food?" Then she went back to check on the order. And she came back out and gave us "complementary" edamame for waiting. She said they will have to serve up the big order right before us first then work on ours. My order was still not being made??I was SO PISSED. I requested to cancel my order and just walked out. I was steaming mad about the whole situation and I couldn't keep myself in there anymore. My husband paid for it and came out later. We decided that we are NEVER going back again. There are plenty better places to eat. NOPE read more

Went to Jimmys sushi for the first time, hoping to get some food on a late Friday night, but turned out very disappointed and should have known it was gonna be bad the first time we walked in. When we seated ourselves the table wasn't even clean and our waiter had to clean our table as we were already seated. The rag our waiter used was gross and smelled terrible. We ordered gyoza, pork bun, and the Oasis sushi (#42). When we got our gyoza, it was just thrown onto the plate and not as expected as the pictures show. The gyoza was also not properly cooked, it was soggy and not crispy like it should be. When we got our pork buns they were not as expected. When I picked up the bun and took a bite out of the dough, it was so rubbery and gross. The buns were likely just thrown into the microwave to heat up. When we got our sushi that's what made us leave. I took a bite of the sushi and it was horrible. It was suppose to be crispy on the outside but it was so soggy. My daughter took half a bite and said that the sauce they used was way too sour and overpowered the rest of the sushi. The display was strange for the sushi too. The sushi was basically just thrown into an okay circle with some random greens in the middle. Oasis? No it was so soggy patch of random greens. We didn't even finish our sushi, it was just so disappointing. The restaurant itself is definitely an older style, but looking closer it was disgusting. The tables were gross and unkept, and the side heaters were coated in grease and other food spills. The place was overall so run down and so so SO gross. Never going again. On two separate to go orders the food was a joke and when I called to complain the dude (same guy both times) ARGUED with me about how "it is supposed to be" he actually tried to tell me that Tom Kha soup is supposed to be a runny/watery red curry mess. Probably my 5th or 6th visit. Today I had Red Snapper Sushi, Roast Duck per the server's suggestion, and Tempura Cheesecake for dessert. My servers were attentive and friendly. One I had a hard time understanding at times. The restaurant is upscale casual if I had to describe it. The red snapper was consistently as good as my previous visits. I unfortunately am not a tuna or salmon fan, which is tough at a sushi restaurant, let alone being in Alaska surrounded by salmon. The roast duck suggested by my server was a bit outside my normal comfort zone. I haven't had duck in a number of years. It had really good flavor, a bit salty, and the typical variety of textures that I find a bit difficult. Nevertheless, I'm glad I ventured out of my norm for something different. I really enjoyed the tempura cheesecake. There was a small amount that was frozen in the inside, but I expect that it is part of the challenges of deep frying a dessert. :) When the check came, I needed to ask them to make a correction. They hadn't charged me for my dessert. Hopefully that goes in my good karma column for later. When they came back with my credit card receipt to sign, there was only one copy, so I needed to separate the itemized receipt and write my total there so I would have a copy. read more

First time here. Decided to try and have a bite with my wife. It's a small setting, reminds me of restaurants in Japan. When we got here it seems there was only one server, there were no open tables, we had to wait a couple of minutes to be seated... they had to clean an area at the bar for the 2 of us. We must have come after a rush. I was impressed with the generous cuts and the freshness of the fish. I've eaten at many a Japanese restaurants and you just know when the quality is above average to excellent. Ordered Sashimi deluxe to share and a Lg Sapporo. I enjoyed the crunch roll but the nigiri could be better portioned. This would a 5 star place in my book if they used less rice and cut the fish a little thicker. Half my nigiri was very thin.
