I'm going to give this place 3 stars to start because I think I just chose the wrong menu item. ( Not that any item should be the "wrong" one) The chicken and waffles was inedible (the chicken). It was super salty and breaded with over salted bread crumbs versus what you normally think of when it comes to fried chicken. My hubby was disappointed in his chicken cheesesteak as he felt it was mostly peppers, onions and potatoes. However the guests next to us ordered the French toast and tamale special and both looked incredible. We thoroughly enjoyed the slutty brownie cheesecake we took to go, but my mother did not like the carrot cake we brought her and my father felt the apple turnover was not as good as a local bakery. We aren't giving up though. We surely will try this place again. Service was great, but it did get smokey in there once the place packed up as others mentioned. I will surely upgrade my review if our second visit warrants it. We parked in a lot on the corner, but had to pay versus other local restaurants who offered validation for 2 hours. read more

We've been eating at Anthony's ever since they opened and always enjoy our meals there! Generous portions, tasty flavor combos, and always innovative recipes! And of course the desserts are amazing. If you want a great home cooked meal, come to Anthony's Cheesecake. I've been here a few times already and can't believe I haven't reviewed yet! A nice local spot right in downtown Bloomfield and a quick walk from the Bloomfield Train Station. The menu is mostly Italian and American food but occasionally you catch some eclectic items mixed in like tacos. The menu changes, which keeps things fun! If you're vegan, it will be difficult, but there are at least a handful of vegetarian items. I've had the lentil soup and grilled cheese, shrimp tacos, coconut cake, and cheese ravioli (not in one meal, ha ha) and all have been delicious. The staff at Anthony's make it top-notch. Since this place is called Anthony's Cheesecakes, I'm reviewing it based on the cheesecakes. If you stick to those, you can't go wrong. The one brunch experience I've had, which consisted of the pulled pork taco pupusa was "meh," but I got three cheesecakes to go and all were phenomenal. The regular cheesecake topped with caramel and pecans had the perfect consistency without being overly rich or sweet. The chocolate mousse cheesecake was nice and light and the outer chocolate layer added a nice touch. The cookie dough cheesecake was more like a regular layer cake with cookie dough stuffed between two of the layers. This wasn't a cheesecake by any means but it may have been my favorite of the three. The only problem with this cake is that, unlike cheesecake - which tends to have a pretty long shelf life - this cake will dry up like the Sahara if you don't eat it fast enough. I wouldn't let it go uneaten for more than a day. Overall, the staff is very friendly and Anthony himself has always been in attendance the small handful of times I've stopped in. read more

Recently catered for Bloomfield College Academic Affairs party. Everyone raved about the food AND the two types of delicious cheesecakes. We had four cheesecakes total: two apple crumb and two cherry swirled. There was so much food! The best thing about the chef is that he used fresh high quality ingredients. I bake a lot and as a result I can taste the difference between fresh all natural ingredients and artificial frozen ingredients. For example, he used real lemongrass in the Thai coconut soup I had recently. And lemongrass is not easy to find. I know because that same week I had his soup, I decided to make my own. It was hard to find fresh lemongrass. So I settled on lemongrass paste. Anthony also focuses on flavor and doesn't just pour salt over everything. Ask about the menu they did for the Bloomfield College party in December 2023. Additionally, that same week I took my staff to eat at the restaurant for our holiday lunch. The food was just as good. The quality of his food reminds me of The Little Pie Store in New York. Food is much better than the Cheesecake Factory. read more

What an excellent little restaurant everything from breakfast to lunch to dinner to their desserts are phenomenal. I like doing takeout. It's a tiny little place. It does get packed. Definitely give it a try. You will not be disappointed in the summer. They have outdoor seating and sometimes live music on the street check out their menu it changes daily. Steak was well prepared, served on a skillet with peppers, potatoes, cheese, scrambled eggs, and chimmichuri. The bakery case had a good selection of cakes, pies, and cheesecakes. Never going to Montclair for breakfast again! I adore their waffles and fair price point. Easy to find street parking on a weekend morning, although during school season or the workday I can imagine it being pretty busy. So, yes, back to those waffles. I had Belgian waffles and my companion had the chicken with waffles for breakfast. Out-of-this-world good. Large portions and nicely slathered with nutella and fruit (mine). His fried chicken was really tasty, not at all dry, and came well-prepared with pear. A little sweet, a little salty, and all around a stellar comfort food dish. It's a casual but cute dining atmosphere, and the staff was friendly. Café latte was nice and reasonably priced. Love that I didn't have to wait an hour for overpriced food, which was what I had to do at a few places in Montclair. Darn. I wish I didn't write this review at lunchtime. What a wonderful experience we had tonight at Anthony's Cheesecake & Restaurant in Bloomfield NJ! The delicious food was served in massive portions - most of which we had to take home, and the owner and staff were so sweet and attentive. The owner in particular, Anthony (from Brooklyn!), took a few minutes to tell us about how he survived the pandemic and Hurricane Ida, and then on our way out, we started talking to a table of family and friends who brought their own sangria and they offered us some, and I couldn't say no!! I just had a couple of sips but they were cheering like I'd just won a Grammy!! It was so nice to be out and talking to and laughing with fun people and it felt so NORMAL. Yes! I haven't been before now because they aren't open many evenings, but they recently added Friday nights for "light dinner bites" so I thought I'd give it a try. Their menu changes often and I was looking to get something to go (long day, wanted to get home and get in comfy clothes). They don't list their Friday specials online, so I had to go order in shop, which isn't a big deal, but I prefer calling ahead. The ambience is pretty cute. They have fake flowers on the table, a fireplace (not lit but still cute) and romantic low lighting. It's got charm. The guy who rung us up was very friendly and helpful for suggestions. I ended up with a shrimp burrito and it was massive. It was hard to eat pick up and handle! But it tasted great and was packed with rice and beans and some large sized shrimp. My boyfriend got a chicken cutlet with broccoli rabe sandwich which was also tasty and a hefty sandwich. Both came with potato salad, which neither of us were fans of. Can you get dinner without cheesecake at a place with cheesecake in the title? No, no you can't. It seems like another thing that rotates so they run out or only have slices of a few available. If you want a whole one, it would be wise to call ahead. I got a slice of oreo cheesecake and it was so rich and sweet. I could see it being a little too sweet for some people's tastes, but I loved it! Honestly after wanting to try Anthony's for so long I was a little underwhelmed. I purchased 3 cheesecakes for Thanksgiving. Chocolate mousse cheesecake, Cannoli cheesecake and plain NY style. First the chocolate mousse cheesecake, that was really really good, it was hard to slice every time we put the knife into it would pull all the chocolate off the outside of the cake. Then Cannoli cheesecake again the cheesecake was really good but I feel like the cannoli cream had no flavor, in fact if I didn't know I ordered a cannoli cheesecake wouldn't have thought it was supposed to be that. Maybe somehow put some crumbled cannoli shells on it too but amo up the cannoli flavor. NY style again really good cheesecake but the graham cracker crust no flavor at all. We also had a hard time cutting slices of all of the cakes, we kept in fridge right up til we sliced them and it was so soft it just pulled the cheesecake apart. First they forgot my water. We ordered and my quiche was the wrong one. They gave me bacon cheddar instead of the goat cheese and spinach....i didn't realize until I was halfway (mind you I was hangry!!!l. No one checked on us to ask how the food was. The side salad with my quiche was typical. I mean it's salad and it wasn't anything special... just romaine lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion and balsamic dressing. The added side pasta was just ok, it was a bit too tangy . I actually liked my husband's better, his was more of a mayo based but wasn't drenched. His sandwich (chicken cutlet) was the best meal out of all of us. Definitely try their chicken cutlet!!! Roasted potatoes are delicious.....my kids didn't want them and when you took your first bite....it was nice and crispy....yum! Again, try their fresh carrot cake...mmmmmmm!! I came here for brunch on a Sunday and was seated right away. They close at 2pm though. It is very formally decorated despite the servers dressing very casually and the prices were very reasonable. I liked a lot of the options on the menu so it was hard to choose! They have a lot of egg dishes and wraps as well as sandwiches and salads. Nice to see some different and healthy options. I decided to go with the salmon burger. It was well toasted on whole wheat and I liked the amount of avocado and tasty mayo spread. I would have enjoyed fresh salmon better but obviously that would raise the price. It came with nice coleslaw as a bonus, although I might have chosen a different side if I'd known there would be one. I tasted the chicken and waffles which was very good although the maple syrup didn't taste pure. The highlight of this place is definitely the cheesecake! I couldn't leave without getting a slice and for 6.95 it is worth it. I went with the half cheesecake half mousse option. Wow! It was so good!! I am definitely interested in coming back here to try their other dishes. They also have dinner a couple nights a week. Pretty funky joint. Food is layered with lots of flavor like cilantro with the pico de gallo. with the breakfast burrito we ordered. Coffee is self served. The place is tucked away or hidden by the obnoxious avalon apartment building. I would come back to try the baked goods. read more

Came by on a late Saturday afternoon with the family with less than an hour before closing time and we were able to snag seating right away (arrived around 2:20ish and it closes at 3). For food, I was stuck between ordering the chicken cutlet club and the BLT when the waitress recommended I just get the chicken club and add avocados to it, killing two birds with one stone - absolutely brilliant and solved the issue! Now if this sandwich was the only option on the menu, I would keep coming back again and again, it was that good. But based on the fact that they constantly change out the specials and every single option on the menus look just as good as the next one, I am definitely coming back here again.The sandwich itself came with a tasty pasta salad which I also polished off in no time. Besides that, my wife ordered the spinach and goat cheese quiche, but they brought out the bacon and cheese quiche instead. Pretty good. My children split an order of the waffles with cookie butter, very tasty, but personally I like my waffles a little bit on the crispy side. Fresh fruit and roasted potatoes came out as sides and gotta say the potatoes were a really good addition, perfectly roasted and crisp. For dessert, we ordered the carrot cake which was really good! We also had to attend a birthday party later that evening so ordered a few other slices of dessert to go which included the NY cheesecake, Reese's Cheesecake, Oreo Cheesecake, and a layered chocolate mouse / cheesecake. All very excellent! As for the location, the only real issue we had was it was cold since we were seated right next to the entrance, so every time the door opened, we were hit with a draft. Keep in mind, it's a small place with limited seating and since we got there late I didn't want to argue too much, but we were hoping the table could have been moved over to accommodate our request, but it wasn't. The other issue was since we sat there past closing (once again, we got there a bit late), the waitress we started with left and service slowed a tad bit since it was just the owners that were working at that point. This is a hidden gem within Bloomfield and my new favorite place. First of all, Anthony, the owner, greeted every single person personally that walked through his door. He is a very sweet, kind, caring and compassionate man. He made us feel so welcomed. Secondly, the food there was delicious. There is a large selection on the menu. We ordered the empanadas for an appetizer. They were so delicious-the crust was cooked to perfection and the green sauce that you too it with -oh my God!! I ordered the cauliflower crusted pizza with veggies and garlic grilled shrimp. It was absolutely outstanding-I could not tell the crust was cauliflower at all. My daughter order the spicy vodka sauce with prosciutto and burrata-she loved it! My husband ordered the chicken with sausage-the chicken was crispy and so flavorful and the rest of the dish had eggplant,sausage potatoes etc.-he loved it!! Went there for the first time last night, for dinner. What a great spot! The owners were super nice. Our meals and dessert were superb. We had the meatball parmesan egg rolls for appetizer, eggplant parmesan, tortellini alfredo with grilled chicken, chocolate layer cake and toffee cheesecake. The dessert selection is amazing! Street parking is available but limited, it's tricky to find the place since it's located in a small street. The place is small and cozy. We ordered chicken and waffles, chicken is cooked well but waffles is a bit soggy. It came with macaroni salad on the side, I liked it. Not to much mayonnaise, you can taste each and every ingredient on it. We also had the BLT, I didn't really like it since I eat it as a left over the next day. We also got the plain signature cheesecake, just about right. Service is friendly. The bathroom door is awkward as it is facing directly to a dinning table.
