My dad was not liking the options he had for the free breakfast include with the stay. So out comes the Yelp app to the rescue. Atmosphere - End of a strip mall that has been built in the last few years. I surprised to see a bar area on the other side of the room. I was expecting more of a breakfast place, but they did have a few breakfast cocktails on the menu. The place is filled with booths one side wall and the rest are tables. Some local photography on the walls which makes for a more local feel. Food Drink - I saw they had Ethiopian coffee and I got excited. Drinking hotel lobby coffee is not the best coffee, and to find African coffee at a non-coffee shop is amazing. Breakfast - I went with the Broken Egg as I love sausage gravy on my biscuits and this a great twist on this. Throw a chicken tender on top of it and an egg. I went with an over easy egg which when I broke the yolk it oozed out, a sign of a well cooked egg. The chicken tender itself was nothing special. I have never walked out of a restaurant after being seated until today. After 10 minutes and the people that came in well behind us had their drinks, we had to ask for our server. She eventually meandered over and took our order. Drink order was totally wrong for the two of us which should have been iced tea and water. Another 10 minutes go by... nothing. No visits, eye contact, or attention from the server. The iced tea was like sugar water and was supposedly unsweetened. Waste of time and energy. I recommend avoiding this place. read more

First let me say that I LOVE ABE. I originally found them in Birmingham and have visited several of their locations in several states. We don't have them in IL, so I make it a goal to eat there whenever they are in a state I'm visiting. Unfortunately, this one didn't quite meet my expectations. The service was great! I did not like that several people were maskless in the waiting area during my mid-April '21 visit but Georgia. *inserts sideeye* What I did appreciate was the comradery between the patrons and the owner. I loved that he came to speak to everyone. He then started a conversation with a regular about the importance of getting vaccinated. It was a couple and the wife had gotten her shots but the husband had not. It was great to hear two older Black men have this health talk, one encouraging the other. The food is where we went downhill. I was not bad, just not ABE that I'm accustomed to. For example, the city grits were pretty bland. Like no flavor. The same could be said for my breakfast. My mom had the same critique as I hipped her to ABE a few years ago and she's been to two other locations. The third member of our party was also not impressed. Stopped in Pooler, GA overnight while headed south. In the morning we sought out a breakfast place that would accommodate a dog and a gluten free eater. Wow, did we luck out! Great service by the hostess and especially our server. Unfortunately, I can't recall her name but she was very good. And, her recommendations were spot on! They have a fairly extensive gluten free menu, which was such a treat, ( fyi, they also have an extensive vegetarian menu). I had the shrimp and grits. Upon our server's recommendations, I substituted the cheddar for gouda, and added bacon and green onions. (Apologies, we forgot to take puctures). Hubby had the (not gluten free), mardi gras omelet with crawfish, shrimp, and andoille sausage. He had a side of grits with the gouda, green onion, and bacon as well. Man, it was AMAZING! Additionally, you won't leave hungry, the portions are quite hardy! (To point out to Mgmt who our awesome waitress was, she was the only outdoor patio waitress 2/21 around 9 AM. What has taken us so long to visit this place?! We happen to be Bloody Mary Saturday BIG fans. This place has a great mix and we served up with Titos of course. Heaven is what he described and he noticed our dismay for not knowing of this and brought us a sample. The omelet had an amazing, creamy taste, that I never got tired of. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the place, as well, and had a nice talk with Mrs. Sheryl. I advise checking in online to get on the waiting list, as the place seemed very popular. You will find a substantial waiting time if you just try to walk in.
