I got a full set of acrylics and I was not pleased! She didn't shape them to my nail and put the white top way to far up. The acrylic when up over my cuticle and started lifting after 2 days. When she started working on my nails I could tell these ladies haven't been through training in a while. As my nails grew out they looked horrible. I will never go back for acrylics again. I was recently in Long Beach and a friend took me here for a pedicure, the pedicure was only $15, which is very reasonable but I was not completely happy when I left. The lady doing my feet cut my cuticles very short, and it bothered me for a few days. Also the place was not that clean, the thing they use to scrub your feet looked old and warn out, and I think I noticed some rust on some clippers, luckily not the ones she was using on me. Overall the spot wasn't thrilled with this place, but for $15 they did a good job, but I would rather pay much more and be completely happy with the service I receive. read more

Weirdest nail salon experience yet. First off, the place was super dirty. There is trash sitting around, the nail polishes are haphazard and super old, the towels are ratty, nail clippers are rusty, and the woman sitting next to me was holding her dog. The water in the foot tub next to me was flooding over. I walked in and requested a pedicure and the girl stopped doing pedicures on the two people next to me and these poor folks sat with their feet in the water for thirty minutes. The plus side is that the price is dirt cheap ($15) and they seem nice. The pedicure itself was fine and looked good. I definitely won't be returning, though. read more

My first experience with acrylic nails was in Jr High. My mom was against me getting acrylic nails, saying "dos nail is for da prostitutas!" Another time, she said "jew no occupas nails, Lisa. Jor nails gunna be damish." My mother was ever so wise and knowledgeable, which is why I did the exact opposite and got fake nails anyway. I don't know about prostitutes wearing them...but I was never mistaken for one. Truth be told, my natural nails were severely damaged by the acrylics. I shoulda listened...but I kept getting them filled and replaced all the time. Something about having long perfectly shaped polished nails...screams sexy, woman, back scratcher, soda can popper AMAZING. I know better, now that I am in my early 20's (shut it), to not get them as often as I used to. The natural nail eventually heals and grows and there are nail care products that help strengthen and revitalize nails. So... I decided to get my nails "did" at a new location; Ann's Nail and Spa. This little salon is located right next door to The Potholder Cafe. The nail ladies were tied up with pregnant Belmont Shore/Naples clientele, but never too busy for a new customer. They asked me to pick a color and have "a sit." I took a sit at one of the stations. Now, I was a little reluctant to even get my nails done after I inspected the station. Three empty Gerbers baby food jars, one Altoids container containing nail sanders and buffers, a purple brush with white powder on it, and plastic nail clippings from the previous customer. Uh. There were two kids sitting by me eating hot chips with their feet up on the station. Their fingers were bright red...where AM I? A large lady wobbled over and somehow, without really telling me, convinced me to get the pink acrylic powder instead of the white. "Pink looks natural and better." Okay, but she failed to tell me there was an extra charge. I asked her for partial polish (black tips). She raved about how beautiful that idea was. But failed to mention there was an extra charge. As she buffed and sanded my nails down, she gradually increased her instrument's speed...resulting in burning and cutting my fingers. It didn't matter that I tapped on the table many times and told her to slow down. She just giggled and kept at it. She then poured rubbing alcohol on my fingers. **BLOODY HELL WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!!?** As she fitted me for the nail tips, she accidentally clued a tip to my pinky finger...with crazy glue. With every tip she glued on, she wheezed and breathed heavily. Does it really take that much effort? I mean, she was breathing like she just ran a marathon. Long story short, she did a terrible job. My nails are way too thick and look creepy. She knew I wasn't happy but proceeded to compliment me. "Look pretty! Very nice." No Lady. I am sooooo Yelping you. My overall opinion of Ann's Nail and Spa: I'd rather crazy glue my butt cheeks shut than go to this nail salon again! read more

It may look unsuspecting and blend into the background if you walk right past it, but once you go inside the warm welcome that the ladies give you is all too inviting including their very sterile foot baths that they have every bag over to make sure that nothing is contaminated. their Friendly Smiles and wonderful small talk really kept me going as I almost fell asleep from their hand massages that they give. both of them did an incredible job on my nails and I am so thankful that they were able to take me as a walk-in thank you ladies read more

Visited this place last sunday with my boyfriend. We needed some relaxation time and pampering, but of course wanted to do it together. We walked in, and there was no wait at all... In fact, while we were receiving our services, there was no one else around... The place itself could use some tidying. There isn't a parking lot, only street parking. The ladies who did our mani/pedis were very nice. ***BE WARNED*** This is definitely one of those 'YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR' kind of establishments. Sad to say, I wanted to like this place. But my boyfriend's mani was not very good. I had to clean up two of his finger nails, there were some edges that were not clipped entirely. My nails were filed well, but the polish isn't really applied evenly on some nails, especially along the sides. My massage during my mani and pedi were mediocre and short. I like this salon! I used to go to a crazy one in L.A., which was pretty cheap ($15 mani/pedi), but the women there were too mean, rude, doing a bad work and my nails would chip within less than 2 days. This place is pretty nice, the women are not pushing you to get extra stuff, neither are in a rush to get it done (meaning, they do it right, as long as it takes to get done) and last for over a week! Of course, you gotta get the best polish nail brands, such as Opi or Essie, 'cause they do have a "china glaze" or whatever is the name, which I have used before, and it chipped really quickly, so get Opi and you will be fine. I spend total $25 ($21 mani/pedi + tip), so everyting is fine! Plus they don't keep talking to each other (crap) about you, like on the other salon that I used to go to, so that's a plus! Good bye to my three years of regular patronage. Clearly, all nail places have their own quirks. I mean, "Ann Nail"- is it really just one of her nails?! Just one?! Not two, three, or hey(!) maybe 10?! The people who work here are really sweet, but the twist is this policy, which is poorly mentioned on a sign on the wall, "Please try not to put the tip on credit card." The key word here: TRY. Nope, they WILL NOT allow you to tip on a credit card. It isn't as though you have the opportunity to pay with your card, even if you paid for the treatment with a credit card: they demand cash. They will tell you to go get money and come back before they will let you pay on credit card. Frankly, I don't want to go take cash out just to tip you. I do not want cash on my person, or I'll spend it all. I want to come into your establishment, get my pedicure, manicure, or whatever else I opt for that day, and I want to pay, INCLUDING TIP, with a credit card. Deal with it! It seems almost like they bully you into paying cash. If you don't have it, you need to go out of your way to get it or, heaven forbid they do not get a tip, you won't want to go back. It's truly an unprofessional policy. Not a good business model to follow AND it hurts your employees. Now, Tommy did an amazing job with my pedicure, though rough, I would love to go back to tip him, but part of me wants to make a point: I am NOT returning because I'm being bullied into paying a cash tip. So that's it. I'm not going back. I am a huge believer in tip karma. I think tips should be high, particularly if service is great. However, if you are inconveniencing your patrons simply because you don't want to pay the credit card company an extra three cents, or you want your tips immediately, or the owner cannot be bothered with separating the tips from the payment for service, then forget it! You want to know why I haven't been coming in as regularly? All of you women keep asking me, because I used to come in once every other week and I tipped well. I DON'T COME IN BECAUSE IT IS A HEADACHE. The tipping protocol is out of control stupid. When Ann Nail, just ONE nail, mind you, is ready to step up their rules for payment to the level that all nail places have and they begin putting their customers first, I will definitely return. Getting pampered in this economy just seems wrong, but when it's at temptingly low prices then I just have to give in. After grabbing breakfast nearby, I inquired about a local inexpensive nail salon and Ann's was the answer. $21 for a spa mani/pedi? Yes, please. The salon is clean and the massage chairs were wonderful. Lynne did my nails and she was great, while Anna did my pedi and I was extremely pleased. Anna was very thorough and so gentle when she was doing my cuticles that I didn't even notice. It was the birthday of one of the employees so they even brought out cake and bottled water. These girls are amazing! Much cheaper than other nail salons in the area and they do custom designs per my wild requests. I'm pretty picky but they do my French manicure perfectly every time-anywhere else I have to point out little imperfections in shape 3 or 4 times. I also get a pedicure here every few weeks. Both my sweetie and I get our brows waxed here....even if he's not having anything done, they let him enjoy a massage chair and hang out while I'm getting my stuff done. read more

I have been to Ann's twice... Once was on purpose, because I needed a cheap mani/pedi and Ann's is convenient and cheap. I found it to be alright, but for the price I would have rather gone down the street to Tami's (and you can see from my review there that I wasn't in love with that place either). The next time I went to Ann's was on accident... I wanted to get a mani/pedi before my cruise, and I wanted to go to Bliss. Turns out, Bliss was closed Monday--the day I'd wanted to go. Bummer! I called Tami's, because of my average experience at Ann's the first time... but they didn't answer. I had a cruise to get on that afternoon, so I walked on over to Ann's. Hooray, they were open! I had a wonderful experience. The paint was great (though, admittedly, my french tip was a little crooked :(... seems to happen a lot at nail salons though, esp when I get a pedi and so my manicure is done in a spa pedi chair, not a manicure station). I also I guess had a partially ingrown nail (ewww) which the manicurist fixed for me... It hurt, and she was gentle, and afterward, it healed beautifully! I was nervous because I've tried to do the same on my own before, and it was painful for days. She really must've known what she was doing! Ann's is a no-frills nail salon, but they are kind, friendly, and everything is clean. They do the job, they do it well, and it is SUPER cheap. If I want a spa-day, I'll head elsewhere, but otherwise Ann's is my go-to salon! read more

We noticed this business after we left the original Potholder on Broadway. We have been looking for a place to get mani/pedis that can do very short nails on guys. Usually we have to tune them up when we get home. What a find! The place is very clean, friendly and sanitary. They don't try to up sell you on stuff you don't need and their prices are very spot on. What a great job they did on our nails; short just like we like them. They were very quick too. So glad we finally found a place in Long Beach where they understand what guys want and like. I've visited this location several times because it's really close to home and convenient but this will be the last. I was cut twice. The first time wasn't too bad and I didn't say anything. She cut me a second time and this time it was much worse. My finger instantly started bleeding -- dark red and swollen. They tried to stop the bleeding by poured some blue liquid on my finger -- which obviously burned. Next was acetone. My finger wouldn't stop bleeding and she kept asking if I was on medication and taking any blood thinners. All in all, I left with my nails half done and in tears. Paid the full amount for my "spa mani and pedi" and even left a tip. As a business owner and consumer, myself, I expect better customer service. Needless to say, I won't be going back. - A read more

Very nice, accommodating staff. They do seem to try their best. HOWEVER, sloppy finish, am going to need to go home and refile the edges. I never Yelp, this review is more for the staff. Pics don't do it justice and it's the way you see on my thumb on every nail. I also had to have her paint parts of my nail that she completely just. didnt. paint. Not everyone notices the little things but for those of us that do, it would be lovely to get taken care of all the way. 3 stars for their determination to help with the coffin shape and for telling me I can come back for free tmrw to fix a nail that's completely crooked. There is NOTHING that makes me feel sexier and more pampered than to have freshly-pedicured feet. I've always been obsessed with having perfect toes since my OCD makes me gnaw on my fingernails 'til they bleed :( After trying out a variety of "cheap" nail salons across central Long Beach over the past four years, I finally found one I really like, Ann Nails and I have been coming here for the past six months. First, the location is near where I live which is a plus. Also, they use OPI nail polish which is a preference of mine. Not only does OPI have the best names for their nail polishes, it is one of the highest quality polishes available. Anyhow, the ladies here are very friendly and always remember me when I come in. I come in when I know it won't be busy so there is never a wait. They really take their time to make sure your feet are perfect! They also give the BEST foot and leg massages. (Lisa is my favorite) I often give them a few extra dollars for additional minutes. When you stand on your feet all day like I do, nothing feels better than a foot massage from someone who won't complain about it (like my boyfriend) :) They also do waxing and facials... but I prefer to leave that to the more upscale places (I think you all understand me there). I'm fine with them touching my feet though :) They just got new massage chairs and always have a selection of great magazines, so it is really easy to relax here. The only bummer is the parking- only street parking and it is always taken. I have to park around the block. Also, they charge for using your debit card, so bring cash or a check. The price is great though... $13 for the basic pedicure or $18 for the "works". This is the one I recommend for awesome, fantastic feet ready for any hot heels or strappy, summer sandals. read more
