The pedicure experience was no frills but it was okay, until one of the ladies made rude comments about my weight. I told her to please leave me alone and she wouldn't stop commenting on my weight, my health. I asked her to stop multiple times and she did not. I felt absolutely bullied. Such sweet technicians, they even stayed after closing time to finish my nails because I was a walk-in -- though I recommend making an appointment because it is a small space that is usually full. This was my go-to nail salon when I lived in Long Beach, so whenever I'm in the area, I take advantage and visit! The shop is off of 2nd street, and it definitely is a smaller salon than others. There are 4-5 chairs, but the manicurists will help you ASAP and give accurate estimates of wait times. Still--make an appointment! My personal faves are Michelle and Tina. They never rush their work, and I've always left happy and relaxed. They have THOUSANDS of colors for acrylic, so I recommend coming with at least the shade you're interested in. I think the prices are similar to others in the area. I feel like all salons are getting more and more expensive, so I see it as a "you pay for quality" kind of deal. read more

Tiny hole in the wall nail salon, just off of 2nd Street in Belmont Shore. This local spot has been open for 16 years, and likely has not been updated since the start. Peeling paint, dusty curtains, and faded photos cover the walls, and a duct taped window AC kept the fume-filled air icy cool. If you are claustrophobic, this is not the salon for you-the entire place is about 200 square feet. Four pedicure spas, and just one single manicure station are crammed together, with barely any floor space to walk in between. I walked in without an appointment, and was promptly seated at a pedicure station. The pedicure was okay but basic, with extremely brief scrub and massage portions. The manicure was hit and miss. My manicurist worked quickly and did a great job at replicating the thickness of the previous manicure I came in with. She had some difficulty achieving my desired shape, but the end result was adequate and uniform. Her polish job looks streaky and messy. All of the staff were sweet and welcoming. An acrylic fill and pedicure came to just $32-easily the cheapest I have found in this area. However, I am not fully satisfied with my nails, and would not go out of my way to return. read more

Limited OPI color choices, no trendy nail art options. Tami and her family were quite nice. Tami helped me pick my colors, which isn't always my favorite thing that nail artists do because it makes me feel rushed. But she was cool about it. I liked her choices. Yesterday, I walked in and asked Michelle how much is a Gel Manicure with a Gel Pedicure. She told me $45 total and wrote my name down to return at noon. Last evening, I showed my daughter the service I had done. She said: "Mom, why is your big chipped and the polish peeling?" as she placed the chipped piece in my hand. "Whoever did you toes, used cheap polish. That's not a gel pedicure, mom." I told her that's the service I booked for and that's what I paid for. She asked me if they used the light on my toes. I said "no" but, they did on my hands. Let me add I was not thrilled with the gel polish job that Tina did. I asked her to clean up around the cuticles which she tried to cut away with the hand tool, not a paint brush. My daughter, confirmed it by saying "whoever did your hands, didn't do a professional job." So, I just called today to let them know they didn't use the light. Tina said come back and let me check. I told her I'm not going to go down there if she didn't agree to give me gel polish with the light to harden it. She told me to come at noon tomorrow. Two minutes later she called back and said no, she will not fix it! $45 was for a gel manicure and regular pedicure. So, Michelle definitely made a mistake and/or perhaps did not understand my English well enough? Regardless, I'm disappointed I didn't realize I was not being given a gel pedicure as I asked. And I am equally disappointed with Tina's work. read more

If you definitely want your hands and feet to look a particular way, don't bother asking - they are on 'auto pilot' and don't really work as meticulously as they should. Very average!!!
