My friend and I came here totally unplanned since they opened a lounge downstairs called La Mina. The restaurant is attached to a hotel, so it has that kind of feel. We were seated and taken care of by our server, who was so sweet and very patient. We ordered drinks. I had to get tea because I was chilly. Outdoor seating at night isn't the greatest because it was very dark, so we stayed inside. The food was exceptional. The herbs they use are picked from their local garden, and the food is incredibly fresh. I ordered the marinated lamb kebabs and Hummus. By the way, their hot tea is fantastic. I highly recommend it but the food was also delicious. The only thing is that the Hummus was very salty but still delicious. The dessert is the best part of the meal. They do change their menu frequently. We hot a chocolate cremeux mousse with chocolate cake - it was soooo good! 10 out of 10! Everything was fantastic and I'll be back! read more

Located in the lobby of the Drey Hotel, this picturesque restaurant exceeded all of our expectations. The interior decor is beautiful and there is a view of the garden next to the hotel. We came for Sunday lunch and didn't know there there was only a brunch menu available. Thankfully all the food was pretty good! The lamb shakshuka was flavorful and kofta was moist. Eggs Benedict, hummus, bread with butter and jam, and pancakes were all solid as well! Presentation was beautiful. My only disappointment was with the pita bread - I found the bread flat and and a little dry. Service was efficient and nice. It did feel more like a business meeting or brunch type of place - not so much a family place. Thankfully it was pretty empty when we went so our baby didn't have anyone to disturb. Tried out the hotel bar bites menu and I have to say we left very full and satisfied! I was just craving some oysters but when we saw the rest of the menu we decided to try it! It's a very small menu but it does not disappoint. Staff is nice and informative. Lots of stuff is shut down in this entire area so it was kind of a ghost town. Decoration and ambiance is great but they keep it a bit warmer inside so dress lightly. Hardly any AC was going. We will definitely return. read more

We love Moroccan food so we were enticed by the label that the menu was Moroccan. In fact, it is more Mediterranean than Moroccan. I would have preferred Moroccan but that's ok and not the reason for 2 stars. The restaurant is inside a hotel. It is modern and clean. Our server was friendly. The starters came out relatively quickly while the entrees took longer and given their lack of doneness should have taken longer. The kitchen has some problems. We started with hummus and it was good. Probably the highlight of the meal. Light and flavorful. The pita bread was obvious homemade and a bit thicker than usual. We also had falafel balls (5 to an order) and they were light and flavorful, but way too salty. As we went through the balls the salt became more and more overwhelming so that we could not finish them all. We decided to split the harissa half chicken and get the heirloom carrots on the side. First, we did not get a half chicken. There was a small thigh and a very small breast, the smallest I have ever seen, but no leg. Second, the chicken was tough because it had not been cooked long enough. Third, the harissa sauce was again entirely too salty. It was as if some one dumped salt on the skin. The carrots were basically raw, not tender and not particularly flavorful. They needed to sauté another 15 minutes at least. The reason for the 2 star rating is that prices are high--I paid more than $100 for a meal that was substandard; the entree portions are small; and the quality was just not there. I had wanted to like this restaurant so it is a little bit disappointing that the experience fell flat. I had found Anise through Google Maps and saw that they had great reviews. The interior, as others have mentioned, is quite cute. I can imagine it being a nice place to hang out with friends, if the food and service were equally amazing. Starting off with the food, my friend and I had ordered the fattoush salad, margherita flatbread, and the lamb kofta shakshuka. While the food certainly looked great (for the most part) my first thought was "is this all we had ordered"? While I had not expected extremely large portions, I had thought that the portion size would be a little larger than what we had actually been served. It feels like the server should have mentioned, or made suggestions, if portion sizes were on the smaller side. Putting that aside though, in terms of taste, the fattoush salad and the margherita flatbread were the most disappointing. The fried pita within the salad tasted pretty stale, which I am not sure is the norm or not. Additionally, the margherita flatbread not only looked pretty disappointing but tasted kind of like what you would expect, in terms of quality, of frozen microwaveable food. In other words, not very great considering you are expected to pay $16 for the flatbread. The lamb kofta shakshuka was decent but I do not think it was anything to rave about either. In terms of service, I think it was the most disappointing part of this restaurant experience. It could be that it was just a bad day for the server, or perhaps the restaurant was understaffed. However, I just remember that the server did not seem very happy and the overall service was really slow. I think it took over 30 minutes to get our order taken and then it took even longer to get our checks after finishing our meal. I had glanced at the parties next to our table, who were seated after us, also waiting quite some time for their check to arrive. My boyfriend and I came here for date night on Friday. The restaurant was really cute and served up the perfect ambiance for date night, just vibey enough without being too loud to talk. The menu is fairly small but I think that is for the best because everything that we ordered was fresh and delicious. For a starter we split the hummus, the the mains he ordered the trout, I got the shrimp "kabab", and we split the carrots. The carrots were probably my favorite part of the meal because they were served in a curry and tzatziki sauce which was so unique. I'm already trying to figure out how I can recreate it at home. Anise is my secret hideaway! So comfy and relaxing to me. Service has always been top notch and the waitstaff is super friendly and ready to give great accommodations. The back patio has a nice view of the pool during the summertime, so watching people play water polo was a nice break from the usual. The interior is modern but still quite fancy in ita low lighting and sleek design. Either are worth sitting in, but I could see the patio during brunch being popular. Oysters with four different sauces - that got sauce is no joke. I felt like a soldering iron was being jammed into my ears. Otherwise they have two different types in hand. Otherwise, they had two oyster selections that were sourced from great locations. The crispy Octopus is done if the better prepared occupies ive had in dallas. Its tender without being mushy, while actually crispy on the outside. The lima beans in the bottom were a nice touch. Short rib was actually pretty good! I like the fact that it wasnt stringy and felt like a cut of tenderloin. Great beefy flavor with some nice rendered fat. Only complaint is how small of a portion they provide you. Beet Salad was ok but it was more presentation than it was composition. They put a shroud of arugula on top that was unnecessary. The beets are the main focus, and thats about it. Lamb and fig flatbread was definitely a flatbread and not a pizza. Making this distinction in case anyone was delusional and thought they were getting something that's doughy or saucy. The fresh figs they use make a difference. The lamb does does take good, but I question if its worth getting. Theyre only giving you four small triangles, so its not gonna be much. Mujadara, or green lentils, was everything that I like as a veggie meal. Fluffy grains of rice, creamy tangy yogurt, and Caramelized onions. The lentils give you that filling factor for sure. I enjoyed this dish way more than I thought I would. This place is going to get more and more popular, and plenty of others will be enticed by the atmosphere, but will be pleasantly surprised by the craft involved in the kitchen. This place isnt breaking barriers, but they don't take shortcuts either. From the in house hot sauces and attention to the preparation of the octopus, this place shines in the details. The 2 stars is for the customer service and the hummus. The food was ok, but the customer service was not good. It took us 2.5 hours to get through dinner here. This is the type of establishment that takes 2 hours for dinner, yet there we were. It started with the drinks. I placed my order first, but was the last to get my drink after checking on it twice. I was thinking they have to be making the glass that the drink goes in because there is no way it takes 30 minutes to get a drink out. No, they weren't busy. It was like a Tuesday or something. I did eventually receive my drink, but our waitress never came and apologized for the delay. A different waitstaff took over our table, and he did comp the drinks. Sadly, we won't return. We consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to dine at Anise on their opening night to the public! Everything from the ambiance, decor, creative, yet delicious, food, and wonderful cocktails were perfect. With the restaurant being brand spanking new, we went in knowing that there would probably be a few mistakes made, but we were so optimistic after looking at the menu online. The Drey Hotel is stunning and this lobby restaurant is so unique. Crispy octopus, a wide selection of oysters, charcuterie, lamb shoulder, saffron rice, branzino! Wow wow wow! We were so incredibly overwhelmed by how beautiful this restaurant was, how kind and attentive the staff were, and how fantastic every bite was. We loved it so much, we have already made reservations with friends to return again tonight! The only tip I would share is please make sure all team members are educated on the menu and can answer questions as they pertain to the wine list, or what regions your oysters from, or even "do you like this?" I'm obsessed with this place. It's a "pan-Mediterranean food and wine bar" in the lobby of the Hotel Drey (which I also love!!) in the Village. The ambiance is gorgeous - lots of light and beautiful details. The term "Hidden Gem" was coined specifically for a restaurant like Anise. Tucked in a corner off the main corridors of Granbury . Lovely decor, intimate seating and friendly, knowledgeable staff. We were presented with a divine amuse bouchée of whipped goat cheese drizzled with honey and flecks of red pepper flakes along w/ a basket of lavash. I chose to start with the soup of the day. In all honesty the best white cheddar broccoli soup I've ever eaten. My husband had a beautiful mixed green salad garnished with pear and blue cheese. Our entrees, excellent pork cutlet for myself and perfectly grilled elk for my husband. The above were paired with a nicely chilled French Chardonnay and then an oh so yummy Grenache. Tried a new place on Saturday, Anise at The Village Drey Hotel. The design and style of this new spot was well done! I really love the open airy look! On my first visit, I went for brunch, so I only saw a limited menu. I decided to try three dishes to get a true taste. In order from best to not: The Mezze Plate was my favorite. It came with a smoked eggplant dip, roasted tomatoes, cucumbers, soft pouched egg, and some pita. Yum! The second dish I ordered was the Lamb Kofta Shakshuka which were small balls in a spicy tomato and cilantro sauce with poached eggs. The third dish was an arugula salad. Eh. There weren't many other patrons there so I'm not sure why it took so long to prepared such simple dishes. Also, the restaurant does not validate parking garage parking. I was very excited to visit Anise, as I'd seen pictures floating online and heard about it through the grapevine. And I love Mediterranean food, so I was excited to try a new one! As soon as I walked in, I was impressed by the decor and ambiance of the restaurant. It looks small from the front door, as we only saw a few tables and the bar, but we were led toward the back of the restaurant, which is more expansive and has the kitchen, fireplace, and some larger tables. Love the interior design - modern and sleek while still being cozy. We arrived on time to our dinner reservation and were seated immediately. We placed our drink orders, which came out fairly quickly. Then, we placed all of the below orders at once. The appetizers came out within 10 minutes of ordering. Our entrees took more time. What we got: Mezze: - Crispy octopus (pimentón aioli, chilled white beans, cilantro, pickled celery): We really loved this dish! Loved the crispy exterior on the octopus. We are always cautious on octopus because it can be really chewy if grilled too much. But they did it perfectly here! The octopus was still very soft and not chewy! - Scallop crudo (ras al hanout vinaigrette, cilantro): I love scallop, so I'm a little biased. But this was certainly done very well. The vinaigrette has a curry taste with cumin, which I've never had with scallop before. If I'd had bread with it, I would have dipped it all over the sauce! Large plates: - Lamb shoulder tagine (couscous, marcona almonds, cumin): I liked this dish - it's basically lamb meatballs in tomato-based stew with some veggies. I'm a big fan of lamb, whereas my partner thought it was too gamey in taste. I thought the stew went really well with the pita bread. - Harissa-rubbed chicken (chicory salad, pan-drippings vinaigrette): We wanted the whole roasted branzino, but unfortunately, they were out of the dish. Our waiter told us it was one of the most popular items... We understand, but we would also expect better stock of the popular items on the menu, especially early on in dinner service on a weekend. We were disappointed, but we went with the chicken instead. I'm personally not a big fan of chicken dishes, and this one wasn't too impressive to me. The chicken was roasted nicely with crispy skin and rich taste. But it didn't really stand out to me. Side: - Charred broccoli (salmoriglio, pinenuts, toasted breadcrumbs): Loved these! I expected the broccoli to be a little more charred and crispy, but they came out more steamed. Still delicious, though! Drinks: - Sencha tea (comes in small pot to refill your mug as you wish) - Beer My reasoning for the 3 stars is due to slow and inattentive service. We ordered everything at once at the beginning of our visit. We figure this helps the kitchen staff time the dishes so that they are ready without much delay between appetizers and entrees. However, in our case, we waited 45 minutes between our appetizers and entrees. About 30 minutes into our wait, our waiter came by to apologize for the wait and explain that the chicken takes a long time to cook. We were a little confused by this - we feel that if the kitchen knows that the chicken takes a long time to cook, then they could have timed it better and started cooking it while getting appetizers ready, especially since they had all our orders already. We were also a little disappointed that our waiter did not come to check in with us for 30 minutes as we waited; we had not seen him since he had taken our appetizer plates away. When he came by to explain, he gave us some pita bread to make up for the wait. We certainly appreciated the gesture, but we expected better of a nice restaurant like Anise. I would also note that the pita bread is lacking in taste, so it by itself was not very appetizing. (As I wrote earlier, though, I did enjoy it with the lamb shoulder tagine!) I will note that our waiter Noah was very sincere, friendly, polite. However, he did seem a little overwhelmed. From what we could tell, he was taking care of two other parties at the time, but he did seem a little frantic at times. We figured he was new to the restaurant and possibly to the customer service/hospitality industry in general, so hopefully, he can gain a little more confidence and efficiency with time and practice! I couldn't help but compare Anise to Sachet - similar high-end Mediterranean cuisine in small plates. Similar modern and beautiful atmosphere. But the service is where these two restaurants differ. That smoked flavor was so good I'm not sure if I'll find another place that can beat it! Sous vide octopus is very common nowadays in a lot of Mediterranean restaurants. But they took it one step further by lightly deepfrying it! I could eat that whole plate by myself, served on a bed of fava beans. When I saw flatbread on the menu, I thought I'd skipped! I'm glad I did not! Coz that lamb kofta flatbread was to die for . It's the best flatbread I've had. The combination of the ground kofta & pickled red onions & a sweet kind of jam (I think) & goat cheese blended so well together. Lamb Tagine with couscous ... just absolutely delightful esp on a cold winter nite. It's like having a bowl of comforting stew in your grandmas kitchen. It's a little on the tart side. Now...comes the dessert menu...having been to a gazillion restaurants, I haven't quite seen a piece of cake priced at $14. If you can get a table by the window facing the pool, it's just beautiful! Location is beautiful and the glassware is fantastic. We went for a Saturday brunch and the acoustic guitar playing in the background was quite romantic. The food, however, is nothing special and pricey for small portions. Our server was having a bad day... she seemed to be in a mood the whole morning and even brought us the wrong check at the end. I've been back her numerous times and it never seems to disappoint! The drinks are all consistently great. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. My fiance absolutely loved the branzino and we both thought the charcuterie was great and we usually prefer to make our own at home. My personal favorite was the chicken. It was flavorful when juicy. We can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. And did I say the drinks were great? Wish they had more veg options, but otherwise good food. The staff was super friendly and hospitable.

Decided to check out Anise as we love great Mediterranean food and this place did not disappoint. Everything we ordered was delicious. My favorite was probably the Matbucha and the Hawaij-Spiced Shortribs. We even came back the next day because I was intrigued by the Lamb Kofta Shakshuka and it was fantastic! We'll definitely be back to try other things on the menu! read more

Very disappointing evening. Service was horrible. The server was beyond pushy. Kept telling us what his favorites were. Almost like he was joining us for dinner. Thanks but I could care less what you like. Food was awful. Entrees were cold. The half chicken was just an airline breast-not a half chicken. Everything was seasoned horribly-globs of uncooked spices. Almost like coating your mouth with really fine sand. Did I mention how pushy the server was. Tried ordering a kebab plate and before I could relay that we were going to order 3 sides with it, he proceeded to rant about how it wouldn't be enough food. Again, let me be the judge of that. I'm a grown ass man and know how to order pal. An absolute was of $350. If service and food were up to expectations, tab would have been much higher. Never eaten at a car dealership but I imagine this is what it would be like. A pushy salesman and subpar food. read more
