I have so many fond memories of Anderson bakery especially at Great mall. Whenever I went shopping with my mom I would always beg to go to Andersons to get either the garlic cheese roll or creamy French. I spontaneously decided to stop by during a recent shopping trip since I can't remember the last time I had it. I ordered my favorites the creamy French and garlic cheese and was utterly disappointed by the quality and freshness. The creamy French tasted stale and bread was chewy. They also no longer slice it for some reason. The garlic cheese I asked to be warmed up and sliced and it was still cold when they gave it to me. It also tasted stale and really chewy. Flies on open food items. Just imagine the hygiene before buying here next time. Showed these to the associate. Even talked to the manager but doubt she will do anything. This place used to be top notch - what happened?? The quality and customer service has gone downhill. What used to be a nice, cozy, welcoming environment with really great quality food, has turned into a hectic frenzy of an assembly line where service is lacking and quality of food is just unappetizing. The place looks unsanitary and dirty. My order was also wrong. I ordered a cold chicken salad sandwich only to get home and find a warm tuna sandwich- yuck. So disappointing! read more

I've been coming here since I've been a child so I might be slightly biased as I associate this bakery with wandering around malls with my mom eating a freshly toasted pesto loaf. They also serve their items in some higher end Japanese stores (Mitsuwa, Marukai). My favorites: -Any of the savory CHEESY loafs ($4.35, there are 5 flavors I love the Pesto and Pisano) - get them sliced and toasted! -Cranberry Walnut Cream Cheese Stick -Any of the Croissants, I'm partial to the almond ($3.50) and Ham & Cheese - I always ask for the ones with almond paste or cheese skirts ;) You really can't go wrong with anything here though. read more

Just came back from France and was missing bread and pastries so decided to hit up Andersen Bakery. Chestnut Tart $4.5 - I was in France and Mont Blanc was on my dessert list, but somehow it did not find it.  Was delighted to see it offered at Andersen, I just had to eat it. It was good. International Cheese Bread $4.15 - I appreciate how they placed this greasy bread in a wax paper bag.  So much cheese, I would recommend blotting some oil with paper napkins.  Fig and Pecan Bread $7.25 - The star of the show, I brought this home and everyone loved it.  Will be back for more. They have a line in front of the bakery most of the time because the bread and Pastries are looked good, smell good, and taste good. The line in front of the store is moving very fast and the cashiers and the other employees are extremely friendly. This is one of my favorite spots for a great soup and sandwich. My go to is the chicken avocado sandwich on PDC bread and the tomato soup with ravioli. This place is consistent and everything is always fresh. Sometimes I will get a creamy french for dessert, but all the desserts look amazing. I wish there was another location that is outside the mall and closer to home, but I like to stop by in here when I can. read more

The line gets pretty long sometimes, but the pastries themselves are delicious. They have other lunch menu items as well, but I go here specifically for the desserts and pastries. I always try jalapeño cheese bread. Ask for toast it and cut it into slices. It tastes very good. It's crunchy and spicy, what else we need. In the evenings, they will be out of that, so please go as early as possible to try most of their items. I cant wait to try their sweet pastries in my next visit. read more

Three stars since their pastries are always good like the one with strawberries and their creamy French. I use to walk by this place and always see fruit flies but I guess they cleaned it up. I prefer going to the one in valley fair mall more. They now make Japanese type sandwiches with white bread. I ordered the teriyaki chicken sando and that was a bad choice, usually it would be like a katsu but it was basically chicken breast with teriyaki sour sauce in it, hard pass only good thing was the white bread.. felt grossed after eating it. Tried to order the fruit sando which is just cream and strawberries but they said they don't make it anymore when it's basically like the cake they have. I also notice their strawberry cake is really small, it's not even a whole slice like I've seen before. Probably wouldn't come here again unless I really wanted a pastry. read more

Whenever I visit Great Mall, I always feel obligated to come here because I just got so used to walking around the mall with a bag filled with those cream cheese walnut bread that they have. It gets me through the whole trek around the mall. My family loves this place and I was first introduced to this Bakery a few years back when they ordered the cream cheese walnut bread for the first time. It was so nice and warm back then, but now it feels like they leave some of the bread out for too long... I remember them having a chicken pizza on display which was so good. I came back today to find out they didn't have it anymore and that was such a bummer. I, however tried their mushroom bacon pizza, which was disappointing because it barely had any bacon on it, in fact it seemed like there were none at all. Taste was very mediocre. Mmm the Creamy French Baguette is the best! That's the only thing I tried and it's soo addicting! It's a tad pricy for just one roll of baguette, but that soft creamy filling is just soo good! However, there's a variety of pastries, cakes, and other baguette. They also slice it into pieces so you can easily walk around the mall to eat it. My friend ordered the turkey/pepper jack sandwich and it smelled sooo good too, and it came with a side of pickle! I'll be back to try their sandwiches! Note this Anderson Bakery is located inside the Great Mall, so it's quite busy. There's always a line of customers, but it seems to move very quick. They display the fresh pastry/baguette by the front entrance, so as you walk past the store you'll be tempted to check out the display and as you get closer you'll smell all the deliciousness :) The staff here are super quick and friendly! Plenty of seating inside the bakery, so you don't have to worry about finding seats around the mall. Overall, everything looks good. A perfect stop to grab a snack or lunch! read more

I can always count on Andersen's pastry display to stop me from entering H&M too early. It was only 5pm on Friday so everything was restocked with fresh baked goodies. Piles and piles and mountains of cream cheese walnut boats (get it sliced!), raspberry cream cheese rectangles, creamy French, fruit danishes with custard: blueberry, strawberry, or new mango coconut, savory pesto cheese focaccia, Margherita or bacon mushroom pizza rectangles they heat up, coffee or matcha cream cruffins (croissant muffins, I found matcha too sweet and unauthentic), and plenty more options! Don't forget about the actual bread, like cranberry walnut. They offer sandwiches, salads, and soup. My fave sandwiches are farmer's Market chicken salad or turkey & fresh mozzarella on whole grain bread. Caesar salad here isn't so great, just grated Parmesan similar to Kraft's, some croutons, and Caesar dressing. The summer fruit salad is colorful though-- strawberries, grapes, and cubed apples on romaine with an orange vinaigrette. Chicken for the salads are always a hit or miss, sometimes it's rubbery. They normally have chicken noodle and clam chowder, along with a veggie option like minestrone. Strawberry whipped cream cake was good! Stop by for a snack and continue window shopping. Cold Brew $3.99: I asked for it black, and as is it did taste pretty non-offensive. Neutral. Balanced. Not overly-acidic. Not much to say about it though otherwise. 6/10 2. Sweet Brioche $4.75: Looked beautifully lumpy, glistening were those humps! Didn't try yet though. 3. Jalapeno Cheese Bread $4.35: Again, gloriously shaped as a....... um.... nm, I'll keep this G-rated. Didn't try yet either. 4. Cheese Danish $4.50: It's HUGE. Think a flat croissant with a strip of cheese down the middle. Yeah, okay, sorry, didn't try yet, but it did look impressive! 5. Mangococonut Danish $3.50: Think square cronut, but less crunchy, and with a ton of sweet and soft mango in the middle on top of a tropical custard. It's delicious!--could be the best "danish" I've ever had, except alas... the laminated bread (ie. croissant) was stale. This location used to be a bit more inviting to sit-down customers but they have made it so uncomfortable to sit and eat there that you're better off taking your food to go. I ordered a pastry, it was average. The tables and floor were dirty. They used to have free water and small cups for customers but they don't do that anymore; now you have to buy it from them. They also don't have napkins?? It was bizarre. They are either understaffed or just don't care anymore. According to other reviews, they have stopped providing other long-time services as well. The place was dead maybe one customer sitting dune drinking coffee.. they had two sections the self service.. which looked dirty as hell.. and behind the counter.. I'm used to the option of being toasted and and sliced but the lady says Becuz if Covid they don't do anything ... I was SHOCKED! I'm so sad.. They use to have amazing sandwiches.. like one of the best (especially for a chain). Now the size is significantly smaller from bread size and proportion, it use to be 3x bigger in proportion. I don't care for their pastries. Although their beloved creamy french has gone downhill as well.. it's been overburnt, the quality is lacking, and not as fresh, and not as filled with much custard. ALLERGY TO NUTS? If you're allergic to nuts than do not come to this location! While I was waiting in line I noticed the workers using one knife to slice up all of the breads and I was wondering if they happen to have another knife for those that contain nuts? I did saw another cutting board so I thought okay cool they probably use that one for the bread with nuts. WRONG! I always get cheese danish with walnuts sliced. I told the employee I wanted 2 sliced. She takes my bread/pastry and puts it on top of the same cutting board picks up the same knife everyone has been using and starts slicing my bread that has walnuts! I watched other people ordering pastries that did not contain nuts and the same thing was happening. Same cutting board and same knife. The company needs to train their staff the nut allergy and how they can easily get sued for not taking any precautions If you are incredibly allergic to nuts please avoid this location at all cost! read more

Ordered a a chicken pesto sandwich and a berry salad. The chicken sandwich the bread was hard as a rock, too much avocado and the chicken was cut way too thick, not a deli, sliced.. the whole sandwich fell apart eating it. There's a balance and making a sandwich. This was just a complete disaster. The berry salad had rotten strawberries. Not happy at all. This was through DoorDash. Not DoorDash's fault, but Anderson bakeries fault for lack of supervision/caring while making sandwiches and salads. Gross! read more

Customer service was terrible! It was too stuffy in the bakery and they definitely burnt something while we were there. It was smokey in the bakery. The breads are not good and were too hard. Didn't taste fresh maybe 1 or 2 days old. After we took a few bites we tossed it and went to go back to see if we can just order a muffin we saw gnats flying around the breads and landing on them. We told the employees and they just shrugged their shoulders like it's normal. We ended leaving not ordering anything else. So gross. We will never come back here. read more

Just a note, Anderson's Bakery inside Great Mall is opened again! My go-to favorites are: 1) Egg Sando (the closest thing I have found in South Bay to resemble the egg sandwiches you could get at 7/11 in Japan). I love these! 2) Creamy French bread. Like everyone else says, this is pure heavenly delight 3) All their salads are great too! I was so sad when they closed down due to the pandemic. Very happy to see it open again! The only thing I could possibly wish for is that they had their own door so I don't have to cut through the mall to get there. read more

IMPRESSION: This is my new favorite go to place at the Great Mall. There was a bakery in Vallco mall my mom used to get me this exact strawberry pastry. Then when I worked as a young adult at Express in Vallco I would speed walk to get this pastry on my break. Now I see they sell this pastry here at the Great Mall too! My favorite strawberry pastry for only $2.45! That price seems very reasonable to me. STAFF: efficient, once they're done with a customer they ask who's next. They use appropriate sanitary precautions and provided me with two napkins and not just one. Thank goodness because I ended up using both napkins. INSIDE: I love the feel to this bakery with the wood tables and walls. Open tables and plenty of chairs to go around. Saw a family sitting and single customers like myself sitting by themselves enjoying a pastry or sandwich keeping busy on their phones. Clean tables and a staff member was going around straightening chairs. FOOD: my pastry was just right. I was tempted to buy another one!
