We've been buying 15 gallons of "pure" water weekly for drinking and cooking from the Van Loi Bakery for about 2 years. Until recently the water seemed fine. About 8 weeks ago, I noticed a foul taste to the water. We get and store the water in 3 gallon glass carboys. My husband meticulously cleans these bottles on a regular basis. At home, the water is dispensed from a traditional water dispenser (bottle of water turned upside down on a high-fired ceramic pot with a tap for dispensing the water). Again, pot and tap are regularly cleaned. Even though we know our equipment is clean, we cleaned it again to rule out any problem on our end before buying the next batch of water, but the foul taste is still present. I'm wondering if any other customers have experienced /noticed this. And of course we are wondering what the cause is, and if the water is safe to use. It is so bad it cannot be drunk and we have temporarily resorted to using bottled water from Trader Joe's - not a great alternative, but we also do not want to drink the tap water, which by the way, tastes GREAT compared to the "Pure Drinking Water" from Van Loi. I am looking for a way/place to have the Van Loi water tested, to see what is causing the bad taste and whether it is safe, and if/when I find out, will post results here. In the meantime, we have almost 15 gallons of water on hand that are unusable and have to be poured down the drain. We love the convenience of this little shop and prefer to support our local neighborhood businesses. Also, as another reviewer wrote, the owners are very friendly and nice to do business with on all other accounts. So we are very unhappy about this turn of events but it does force us to source our water elsewhere. read more
