Signage says scan coupon first but after that it doesn't say confirmed etc. I noticed today too that the prices do seem higher than most other markets and they don't have a lot of things that I was looking for. Make sure to grab a basket in parking lot as they don't bring them in and what I don't like is when you self checkout you don't get your receipt until 15-20 mins later so you don't know if they charged you correctly or applied their coupons. It's cool with all the technology and all but feels gimmicky . I used the dash cart to shop (although admittedly the only thing I actually needed was celery). I ended up getting a bottle of kombucha as well. The cart worked okay, but you still had to scan the item. The only convenience factor is that you don't need to go to the traditional check out lines. That said, I still think the way Walmart/Sams Club has implemented "scan and go" works a lot smoother. I don't really see myself going to Amazon Fresh over other grocery stores unless I'm in the area and REALLY need something. read more

This location opened last Thursday! It's HUGE. The way it works is you go into your Amazon app on your phone and click on "In-Store Code." Once you get that code then you scan it to get into the store. There are metal bars that will lift up after you scan to let you in; like the metal bars at Disneyland or at a Metro station. Then you shop, and while you shop there are cameras spying on you the whole time tracking everything you take and everything you put back. And when you are done shopping, you scan your phone again and the exit metal bar will lift up and you leave ! There is no checking out or paying. The payment is linked to the form of payment in your Amazon account. About an hour after you leave the store, an itemized receipt will be sent to your Amazon account. I put three things back and my receipt was amazingly correct and accurate! What I love about this store is the prepared food section. The fresh bread was delicious and under $3 for a whole loaf. The sandwich was good too and the sushi looked fresh. The food was reasonably priced and the quality was good. The rest is just like a regular grocery store and the prices are not better than Sam's Club or Costco. It is a different shopping experience for sure. read more

The latest under the Amazon name came to Pasadena. They officially opened on 9/15/22 and had promotions,'giveaways and samples. I avoided the chaos and came a day later. There are 2 ways to shop: One is to scan your membership and roll in with a cart. There are sensors everywhere so every item you place in your cart will be tracked. When done, you simply walk out and they'll send you a receipt. The traditional way is to check out with a cashier. You can open your Amazon app and click on in-store code. The cashier scans it and they can use the credit card attached to the account. You can even use any credit balance to pay for groceries. The market is big, larger than supermarkets like Ralph's but smaller than a Costco. Being new, it's very organized with wide aisles and products neatly placed on shelves. There's a prepared foods section to grab sandwiches, pizza by the slice, entrees, salads, pastries and much more. They even have rotisserie chicken for 5 bucks. Those seemed to be popular as they were sold out. The prices for many items aren't higher than other traditional markets. You can check their website for a pdf version of weekly specials. Or if you live in close proximity, you may get it in the mail. Its a cool market to check out and look for any new products other stores may not carry. I have had the opportunity to visit all of the new Amazon fresh stores in California. This newest store, at the former site of OSH, and another now defunct home store is just like the other stores, with exception to the Just Walk Out system. At all of the other stores you actually use a shopping cart. Here, it's set up like the mostly closed Amazon Go stores. You scan your phone at entrance, and your off. The fancy scanner carts are not here. Here real problem is the prices. The only thing about this store that was close to Walmart prices was Little Debbie's. Everything else that I checked with the Walmart app on my phone ranged from $2.00-$2.50 more than Walmart. These stores are like convenience stores on steroids. The prices are high, the selection is not as good as Ralph's, Vons, Walmart or Stater Brothers, and the prices are very high. On the Wednesday I visited at dinner time, they did not have a single rotisserie chicken. The nice man behind the counter said they sold 200 or so at $4.98, and they are gone. The staff here really wasn't welcoming except for the guy at the To-Go foods. Everyone else seemed to not be happy working today. I understand some people like, and don't like Walmart. But, I think Walmart is great. They offer a huge selection, and great prices. Great Value for your dollar. I don't see Amazon Fresh stores being around in 2-3 years. They have 20 or so across the Country, and many I visited are not busy at all unless they are handing out coupons to get actual money off your purchase. Example: Spend $50 get XX dollars off. To me, Amazon could do much better. But, look at Whole Foods. That chain is facing an uphill battle. Another poor Amazon buy out. These stores are a flash in the pan, and not much else. read more

:: Shopping :: There's two ways to shop; the first way is using the Amazon Dash Cart, where you're able to scan each item via the cart as you shop throughout the store, it'll all be calculated, then you'll pay at the end at checkout, and walk out OR the second way is to shop the traditional way by grabbing the regular shopping cart and then you do self-checkout or an employee can checkout for you. It was recommended to me to shop the traditional way if it's your first time here. Produce that don't have barcodes can be looked up at the "search for item" button on the carts as well as at the self-checkout station. Surprisingly the prices are comparable to regular grocery stores, and they have decent sales too if you look carefully, for example, they had a BOGO free for their own brand frozen pizza, there was no standout sale sign but it said on the price tag. Also, they have their own hot food bar, where there's daily deals (Monday-Friday). Their hot sandwiches are pretty good. I think it'd be a great spot to pick up a quick lunch. :: Service :: There's a gentleman there that has helped me a couple of times; he is nice and informative. The cart attendants are also super friendly. The aisles are also kept pretty clean and organized here. They have a customer service center where you're able to do your Amazon returns, as well as Happy Returns. :: Parking :: There's a couple of EV charging stations in the front, as well as a designated spot for people who requested their order be picked up via "drive-up." The Amazon Fresh is finally open. Parking lot was pretty full but part of it was blocked off so maybe more parking spaces in the future?....hopefully.... They had a raffle for their grand opening but line was pretty long when I arrived. When I left I noticed it ended but a lady was handing out chocolates For entering you open your amazon app and scan the QR code. Shopping is like any market. Take what you like. I noticed lots of cameras in the store, likely how they know what you are buying. They have both regular and organic items. A bit pricier than other markets but they currently have $10 off coupons. To exit, no need to stop by a cashier. You just scan your coupon then your QR code on the app and exit. They discriminate here. If you fit a certain type of male profile and you're alone be prepared to be treated like a common criminal. I ordered some groceries from Amazon fresh. I chose the curbside service. I got a text from Amazon that my items were ready. I clicked a link to tell them which parking spot I was in. I was alone with my dog. The Amazon fresh employee that brought my groceries asked me for my name and then she asked for a pickup code. I told her they don't need my pickup code for curbside service. Also I informed her that my wife and I have always have used curbside service and they never asked her for a code. Still she would not release my groceries unless I give her the pickup code. It's has if everything I told her went through one ear and out the other. I felt like a common criminal stealing my own groceries. The first time I came here I hated this store. It was confusing, super small meat department and limited quantities of everything. But since the update, I can say I actually really like shopping here. The prices are very reasonable and there aren't a ton of customers, so I'm not waiting to checkout. The deli department is really nice and if I worked near by I'd come get lunch here, because they have great deals. Anyway, if you haven't shopped here you should at least come try it out. Although most items I usually buy cost more than my usual supermarket, they do have some items for less. For example their Whole Foods market brand pineapple was only $1.99 each and their Whole Foods 365 brand tomato pasta sauce was only $2 something while the RAO's was more than $8. (However I don't think RAO's is more than $8 at other markets, maybe they just did. That to make you buy their brand as a no-brainer) The steak packaging for the Boneless beef top lion strip steak says it's a 20 oz but the 2 steaks themselves weighed out to be only 16 oz, but the 20 oz is together with the packaging that includes the heavy spongey thing inside that is supposed to collect all the moisture. Other steaks I got from other markets that were in airtight plastic packaging didn't have the heavy spongey pad like thing stuffed inside. I would normally rate the item in Amazon but you can't do that for Amazon fresh items. Service was courteous. Environment very new and clean. They did give a $10 off of receipts more than $50 on their weekly newsletter that was on the digital shopping cart. Oh and they have a krispy crème donut shop inside! read more

So happy there's an Amazon Fresh in the area! Once you get inside, there's a worker who will tell you how the store works if it's you're first time. Basically, you open your Amazon app and use the camera to scan in. That's it! You then browse around the store, pick up whatever you want to buy, then exit! There's cameras literally every inch of the store which is how they detect what you bought. They also have Alexa's around in case you have questions such wanting to know if an item is in stock and in which aisle. My favorite item here has to be their own frozen pizza which is only $3.99! Cheap and yummy! I'm for sure coming back for more. I'd say everything is around wholefood's price which is fair since Amazon acquired them. The store itself is massive. Amazon Fresh is a medium to large size grocery store that except for a few features is very similar to a typical neighborhood market. The main difference is with how you shop. In a typical grocery store, you gather your items and when you've finished shopping, you go to a cashier and check out. Also, like many stores now there is also a self-checkout section where you can scan the items and pay for them there. However what is unique about Amazon is "just walk out shopping." The later option utilizes special shopping carts that allow you to scan your items as you shop, which allows you to check out in a matter of seconds. To use this option you need an Amazon account with a linked payment method (e.g., debit card), but you are not required to get Prime. The scan as you go feature is more preferable than Amazon's previous system that would tally your items as you placed them in your basket without scanning. With that systen it required you to check your account after you shopped to make sure you were properly charged. I like the new system because it puts the shopper more in control. The cart also gives you a running total of your purchases and allows you to scan Amazon Fresh coupons. It also allows you to include items that are sold by weight (e.g., hot food bar items). The cart actually weighs the items as you place them in the cart -- how convenient is that? Amazon's prices are very similar to other grocery stores, so sometimes particular items are cheaper while others are more expensive, so it's important to comparison shop when you go. Like most grocery stores, their house brands offer the best value. They also regularly mark down items, sometimes significantly. Occasionally, you will see food items being sold past their "sell by" date (as you will encounter at other stores). Depending on the item, this is generally not a major concern. The sell by date is simply the date that the item is recommended for peak flavor, not the last date that item is safe to eat. For example, they had a huge markdown (approximately 80%) on frozen cauliflower florets and when I looked at the dates, most of the packages were 4-6 months past the sell by date. There were about a half a dozen packages left and I cleaned them out. I didn't notice any difference in taste or freshness in the older packages compared to the newer ones. The produce section has an average selection of items. So if you're looking for the most common varieties of fruits and vegetables, the selection is quite sufficient, but don't expect too many exotic items like dragonfruit or rambutan. I like the convenience of Amazon Fresh. I prefer going in-store as it's a good activity with my kids. It's like going on a treasure hunt and there are alternatives in-store that may not be clearly apparent online. The quick checkout with the dash cart is amazing. No queues, no cart collisions, just have to be careful to check your receipt while shopping, and sign out afterwards. It's generally not crowded when I visit and the place is always clean and nice. It's easier to stay zen. The meat selection is lean but still okay. If you are a prime member, you even have the option of free delivery. read more

The concept of cashier-less check out is amazing, with thoughts of "Big Brother" in the back of my mind. With that said, it seems there is a moment of trust we all face and the movement into new technology for everyday shopping. As for the products, my son said it's essentially Whole Foods, with 365 products and the normal types of groceries you would find anywhere. This is not a warehouse shopping experience and is probably still more expensive than Costco, but it does incorporate the latest technologies in information gathering, such as Alexa for searching items. Amazon Fresh, and the future of grocery shopping, has finally arrived in Pasadena. I've eagerly awaited its arrival for literally two years now; while I wish a local grocery store like Trader Joe's would have taken establishment in what was once Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH), I am glad Amazon Fresh is bringing in jobs and tax dollars and the prime retail lot is no longer sitting vacant and unused as it did for many years already. The Amazon Fresh no-checkout concept may be a new one to the Pasadena area but not untested elsewhere. Just grab a shopping cart, scan your Amazon membership QR code with the mobile app, shop like you normally would in any supermarket, and just walk out through the same entrance you entered. Yes you do not have to check out, as the high-tech wizardry automatically detects and calculates what you put in your cart. Technology is crazy, right? Admittedly, it is not 100% fine-tuned yet and has occasional kinks. There are so many cameras inside the store so don't forget to look up and smile. You don't need to be an Amazon or Amazon Prime member but you won't be able to take full advantage of the grab-and-go feature; there are still traditional checkout lanes with cashiers for those without memberships or inclined to shop the old-school way. I always try to do my Amazon Fresh shopping only when there is the 'buy $40 and get $20 off' coupon/deal, or if that one isn't available look for the 'buy $50 and get $10 off' coupon in the mail or newspaper. The store is well-maintained and the employees are fairly helpful explaining the concept and any questions shoppers may have. Today i opted for a drive by and pick up order via the Amazon Fresh website. The order was not huge but contained several items that the store order "picker" would have to think about before shoving it into my bag. (produce items mostly plus wine as well). As with Vons (when is Trader Joe's going to get onto this pick up train??) Amazon Fresh is as careful and as detail oriented in their item descriptions so as to make selection easy and thorough for both the store and us, the shopper. Needless to say i have had issues with Ammy Fresh pick up service but as usual Amazon comes through and will credit you for most mix ups via computer. Or you can always go inside the store and receive a credit for a return. Amazon will usually put these returns in the "donation" bin as it was explained to me. In any event today all went well and the system worked as it is set up. All packages are secure in these Amazon Fresh huge paper bags and carefully labeled. Once i arrived at the store, my order came to me quickly and was complete. Good Show! I know i have complained about this before but i will once more complain about the interior merchandising inside the store: a situation which makes shopping this store difficult. Basically it looks like the merchandising especially the Grocery aisles a hodge poge: with the same items in a couple places rather than centralized. The very top shelf looks like someone threw leftover items there to be dealt with...never? This is really a mess for a company that owns the well established, well merchandised other market: Whole Foods. I really do not get it. Also the pricing is outrageous based on the competition...meaning some pricing is good, some is well below other comparable stores and some is too too high: especially in the Wine room. Doesn't anyone do price comparisons?? Also: once again: the prepared foods except maybe the Sushi is not well thought out and the items are below par. This Amazon location has a fraud system set up where customers when they go into purchase product they pay for one bill and then they charge additional hundred dollars. I personally got charged an additional $135 for five dollar purchase I made. I contacted Amazon. They say they have no records. They don't know where the $135 came from but it's Amazon fresh charge. Some of their employees or a group of employees have set up a fraud system. Stay away away from this location Amazon couldn't give me the credit back they said for me to contact my credit card company and have them dispute the charge. Amazon Fresh in Pasadena, scores big points with me as a motorcycle driver, their parking aisles point towards the super large store windows making it easy to take a peek every now and then to make sure no one is messing with your vehicle. I'll be coming here a lot, when I'm in the area. Poor motorcycle parking was why I stopped shopping at Target and other marketplaces in the area. As for the selection of products in the store, it seemed a little limited, but Amazon Fresh online is limited, so it makes sense. Some of the prices were on the high side compared to other marketplaces in the area for specific products, some were higher than Amazon Fresh online prices with delivery. I think they'll work their prices out compared to the local options as they acclimate to the city. I picked up some staple foods and found the quality and prices competitive for a 3 pound bag of Gala Apples, a 2 LB bag of baby carrots and a gallon of milk. In fact their milk prices were better than the local 99 Cents Only store near Pasadena City College. They have all the kinds of foods you might find at other grocery stores, including frozen foods and even things like lights and batteries. I picked up a pack of 9Volt batteries for our smoke alarms. Amazon Fresh Pasadena also carries their wonderful Amazon Branded Products like Ranch Dressing and Sour Cream at competitive prices, but their Cream Cheese Prices were higher than what I usually see from them online. They have a deli and live food service area and the food smelled wonderful, it was very busy during this first visit. However, some of the hot food dishes in the center area set out like a buffet, looked like they had probably been sitting most of the day, it didn't look very fresh to me. If I were to get some hot food to go, I'd probably just go up to their counter. Things Amazon Fresh Pasadena can improve on. 1. The pantry and dry product aisles are on the narrow side. While wide enough for two shopping carts to pass, it was still a bit of a tight squeeze. They could easily add a few more inches to these aisles by removing a few inches from the massively wide food area. 2. While the concept of Amazon Fresh is to be able to walk in and walk out with out having to go through a checkout line or self check out line, their three or four check outs were really busy, and set a short distance from the checkout to the aisles. This was causing a lot of congestion for shoppers who were walking across the store, since at least during this visit, those in line were not moving out of the way. 3. They could use some additional signage explaining how the process works, there really isn't any. You walk in and there are two hand scanning devices with a LCD display and a card reader. There is also a similar scanning device at the two gates to enter the shopping area, but not enough details for the less tech savvy, and a bit intimidating looking at first glance. A graphic showing how the devices work would be great. A few answers to questions you might have. A. While you do not have to have a smart phone and Amazon App to enter, you do have to have a credit card associated with your Amazon account. If you do not have the App, just slide your credit card into the card reader at the gate. It will show you any Amazon accounts associated with that card. Press the account name on the LCD and the gate will open letting you in. B. The store has Amazon Guest Free Wifi, so if you do not have a cell plan, you can still connect via their Wifi. C. If you are using the App, register it on the weird looking scanning device, shop, and then just leave the store. D. If you are only using your registered Credit Card, then when you are ready to leave, get in line for a cashier. You can pay the Cashier with cash, credit card, or SNAP/EBT Card. I had one employee ask me if I needed any help in the produce sections, which was nice. Dissatisfied. The store is on the smaller scale and while there were several employees guiding everyone they missed key opportunities to provide service. Basically doing only what they were trained to do and say. Okay, so on to why I am giving a low score. I was overcharged by $6.99. I got one small salad bar container but was charged for two. I purchased a baguette and it was stale. Today is there first day opening so I'm not sure how they already have stale bread. Overall, I'm not feeling it bad experience and the prices are about $0.20 to $0.40 more than other grocery stores. The receipt also takes time generate if you'd do the scan and go so you won't know if you're over charged till later. Anyway, this is my review perhaps your trip will be a better experience. read more

Went just for the experience, but ended up going in the traditional way instead of Scan to Enter because I like to take things off the shelf to look at ingredients and nutrition facts and didn't want to get charged mistakenly. I also see lots of customers lining up to check out. Plenty of parking space and 2 free EV charging by Volta. Lots and lots of cameras inside the store. What I like about the store is you can ask Alexa about almost anything, from which aisle is the bread and even where the restroom is. Sorry, you just can't ask Alexa to turn off the cameras. At Amazon Fresh, they sell the Happy Belly brand, which is just another brand owned by Amazon, The price is cheaper. Most of the other items, it's price just like Whole Food, but if you do coupon rebates like I do, Amazon Fresh is not one of the retailers. I went to their meat section and saw beef that had already turned brown, so it might be better to just shop at Whole Food where the meat quality is better. First time Amazon Fresh shopper. I placed a pickup order online but was surprised to find that basic items were appearing as "OUT OF STOCK" - What kind of grocery store doesn't have Vitamin D gallon milk, white sandwich bread or bananas? Disappointed but will give them another try. I just checked again online and now they seem to have not sure why these items were coming up as out of stock when I placed my order, but it really did. read more

The wait has finally come and I was not very impressed with what I saw. I had issues from the start with getting the QR code to work before entering, pretty irritating. Walking through the store, very limited assortments thought out. Produce was basic, meat was mediocre, pricing wasn't anything that was comparable to a Ralph's or sprouts near by. Shelves were already dirty after just being open for a week. The one thing I found was great was the rotisserie chicken was a deal at $4.97! It will be probably the only reason I would stop there for if I step in again. Amazon should stick to the online thing, groceries brick and mortar is NOT there thing, I had high hopes. read more

Kudos to Amazon for spearheading checkout-less shopping. It was really strange for me to walk into the store and pick out the items that you wanted and leave. From Amazon's vision of online shopping to now checkout-less shopping, I am definitely all for this. When I walked into the store, there are turnstiles that have a place where you can scan your barcode so the store knows that you have arrived. Then, I did my shopping around the store. I love the fact that Amazon Prime members get 20% off the prepared food section. When I was ready to leave, I scanned my coupon first that I received in my email. Then, I scanned the barcode that I initially scanned when I entering the store to exit. I wish that there was a visible cue that the coupon was accepted, but the cue is an audible tone that it was scanned. I didn't get the receipt until the end of the day, but it definitely accurately notes the items that I procured. I love this concept and will be back soon for more grocery shopping in the near future. Note that it was super busy because I went during their grand opening weekend. There is street parking if you can't find parking in their parking lot. read more

Amazon Fresh has been my new go-to grocery store. They have amazing prices and I love that I can return most of my Amazon packages here! Everything is very high quality and clean, and all the employees are extremely nice. The only drawback I've experienced is that the parking can be tough, not sure if it's due to the construction still happening or there's just not enough parking. But other than that it's awesome! read more

Made it to the new Amazon Fresh grocery store where you can just "walk out" with your grocery items. There is still the traditional way of shopping with cashiers and lanes but I tried the walk out method. All you need to do is scan your QR code (helps if you already have the app) upon entering, shop, and scan the code again when you leave. I will have to check now to see how it charged but I did leave with a bottle of lemon juice to try it out. It's a pretty strange feeling but also quite liberating! read more
