At what length companies go to sway customers into accepting additional charges, and shorten deadlines in their own favor is impressive. Received a notice that "audit has shown that my insurance is expired", and been given 30 days to send in proof of insurance or otherwise I'll be charged additional fees. My insurance is still valid. It is not expired. I've sent in proof of insurance a few weeks ago, and was given confirmation it was received. Sending an expiration notice a week ahead of time effectively shortens the deadline once my insurance actually expires (in a week from now). Not taking this nonsense. The bad part: The manager doubles down on the initial message. Maybe the manager should read the initial notice before sending it. Renters be aware. read more

People beware Alton storage you think they would work with you. I've been there for years with my items. I asked them to hold off on charging me an increase on rent and when do they do it in December before Christmas these people are very inconsiderate. I asked management if they could postpone it and wait till January due to financial difficulty. First of all, the facilities guys on site at the storage facility are great. They are polite and responsive. But the corp parent company is awful. After 4 months, I got an additional locker with them. To reward me, they raised my price 45% on the first storage unit without any justification or notice. I left 3 messages for Evelyn at corp hq about this and she didn't even call me back. I am now forced to throw away things from one locker and shut down one of the two that I have with them to consolidate and save $. I will be completely out of there within 3/4 months. I just don't do business that way nor want to do business with a company that raises prices like that, and doesn't even have the courtesy to return a call. Just got a letter in the mail saying they were increasing my monthly rate. My contract was a certain amount and I find it so slimy that they just up my rate when I signed for something else. This is so disgusting and I don't feel like a valued customer. Figuring out how I can get my stuff out asap, I will NEVER work w them again. Money hungry jerks. If a contract was signed you need to take responsibility on your end just as I have done by paying you X amount each month. I'm embarrassed for your team. I called Jose (manager) and he was laughing on the call w him. He said we can do whatever we want to the price! Like how sickening is it for a manager to LAUGH AT YOU when scamming you. Clean and kept at a nice cool temperature. The facility is relatively new and I felt completely safe trusting them with my items. Very easy to maneuver around especially with the carts available and large elevators. You will never have an issue waiting for a cart because there are plenty of them. The staff is friendly and helpful. They always answered their phone promptly. And yes, your rates will likely go up, but only after many many months. Ask them about it before hand and you won't be surprised with the future amount. If it's a short term storage situation, you likely will not encounter any increases during your time. Alton was great for our 500+ mile move and we are definitely appreciative of the experience! The most wonderful staff, cleanest facilities, and well-aired units. The staff is always friendly and happy to help. The tall gentlemen (regret not recalling his name) was our point-of-contact and he is truly wonderful. The facility has plenty of loading docks and moving carts available to make everything easier. The entire building is temperature controlled and also smells nice! Key-in access entry are at various points to ensure renters' and property security (elevator, restroom, etc.) The online account management system is extremely helpful for invoicing and where the staff can be emailed about any questions (with quick responses!). read more

I have a storage unit in every city I own a business and I see 5-10% increases here and there. They claim to have rising costs after 7 months of grand opening. Lies. Scam. Figure your finances out corporate...did the building magically raise its rent on yourself, the gate didn't go up in price did it, the gardener raised his rate on you, or did you give all of your fantastic employees a 600% raise? Boss made me add more thing: Very very friendly staff and clean facility! Like so friendly i recommended so many businesses without caring about my $100 referral bonus. But I would not guarantee friendly staff and clean facility will last if they have irate customers calling about ridiculous price hikes. So don't count on friendly staff sticking around. After looking at numerous storage businesses, we were pleased to find Alton storage. Jose, was very informative and was happy to show us different sizes. We looked at a couple of them they are clean, well lit, indoors, and great music. If not for Jose I wouldn't have bothered to spend the time looking around this facility. Regardless of price increases after the introductory period, which is a huge factor understandably, this storage is by far one of the best around and I've done the leg work! Located in a nice area and has 4 levels of protection of your belongings which all need your personal access code to be opened. They have a gate, a front entrance, another entrance to the actual storages, and the 4th level of protection is of course the lock on your storage...which you should have sooo... They have a good selection of equipment and supplies in the office for purchase if that's something you're looking for. They even have public restrooms (code needed) and they are very clean. They have a water fountain near the restrooms as well. My mom was moving down from NorCal and I was given the job to visit each storage that was in our price range, in person. Unfortunately the first storage place I went to was Alton storage, so every place I went afterwards was a waste of time because I ultimately chose Alton (obviously). I know that there are a few cheaper options out there but there's a reason for that. All of the other storages I went to were not climate controlled or they were located outside and had gaps at the top of the units allowing easy access for small rodents or any other small animal. So you get what you pay for. Some other wow-factors for me: Because Alton Storage has a gate and a coded entrance, their elevator doesn't need a code in order for the doors to open which is extremely useful if you're going back and forth with items to put in your unit. Also, they have a solid amount of carts available to use. One of the other storage places I went to only had 3 available and they were locked up which is a hassle because they can only be used when someone is in the office. Last but definitely not the least, the professionalism, thoughtfulness and overall helpfulness of the staff is exceptional! Barbara and her staff are gems and have been great from the start! They had the best price in all of south county for a 10x10 indoor climate controlled unit. I called to confirm and spoke with Stacey. She was courteous and helpful. She took our information and reserved the unit for us. When we arrived, Stacey was helping another customer, so someone else assisted us. (We forgot his name, but not his excellent customer service) We were shown the unit, given a tour of the facility, and then filled out the paperwork. All together - 15 minutes. Impressive. We got the first month for $1 which was nice. We also prepaid for a full year and got a free month. We locked in the best price for 14 months. Excellent deal! The facility is clean and secure. The lighting is very good. There are plenty of push carts, and three elevators to use. Plenty of room to unload, too. We are very happy we chose Alton Self Storage. NOTE: Regarding rate increases - and this was before reading any of the Yelp reviews - I was smart enough to ask them directly "when" and "how much" the rate increase would be. They were VERY HONEST with their answer: "You are getting an introductory rate, so in about 6 to 8 months, we will raise the rate up to the current rate for your unit." I've been a customer for 4 yrs now, and they've increased my rates several times already. My initial rates (including $10 insurance) went from $98 to $146 in 9 months, which is a 50% increase!! And they've been doing these increases every so many months. I just checked my July's invoice, and it's been increased to $200 without any notifications - that should be illegal! Plus, WHY would Alton Storage increase the rates during a time like this?? When we've been going through a Pandemic, resulting in millions of people being unemployed and can't barely afford anything, Alton Storage decides to INCREASE our RATES?!! It's absolutely inconsiderate and unempathic of Alton Storage to be doing this at a time like this. Most Americans are collecting unemployment as a result of the Pandemic, but Alton Storage decides to increase our rent. I'm so mad and frustrated, but I can't do anything about it right now because I'm out of state and can't move things out of the storage. Meticulously clean and straightforward place. The registration process was a breeze and all of the terms and conditions were clearly explained to me before signing anything. My only complaint is that there are only two spots to drive right up to so that you can empty your car close to the building, otherwise you have to park a little ways away, some spots are on a slant and things like carts tend to roll off! I recomend this place for people who need a storage unit for short term only. Aparently the rates rise a lot after a few months. read more

I have no complaints about the facility itself it is clean and I feel safe and well designed. So why the 1 star? That's because I cannot give zero stars. The simple answer can be summed up in one word 'Barbara'. She is the location manager. She is the rudest most unaccommodating excuse for a manager I have EVER encountered. I have a special needs son who was recently hospitalized. To make matters worse, I was also hospitalized for two months and fell behind on payments. I came in, in time to pay the balance owed, which included nearly $200 in fees. One of the workers there was understanding and suggested that I speak to Barbara and maybe she would be understanding and possibly do something for me. Although I told him I doubted that she would, he expressed faith that if she heard my full story maybe she might be considerate. I approached Barbara and began explaining my situation, AFTER paying the balance in full, fees and all. Before I could even ask her for anything she went off, first calling me a liar when I told her someone had called me that Friday with a different balance. She used 'notes' on the account to back up her accusation. She continued to scowl at me unprovoked. She found every way to say no, make me feel like absolute garbage and sought every reason to not want me to leave happy. She is a terrible example of what service is. She is an embarrassment to this otherwise good company. If they feel she is worthy of representing the face of their business, then maybe this isn't the place for you to store your things. I had a great experience renting storage place here. This is the cleanest and well lit storage place I have ever seen . Plus it's open until 9 pm when storage places close at 6pm or 7 or 8pm . Plus they don't trip if you have to leave your Uhaul in their parking lot overnight . I had no where to park my huge 26 ft Uhaul , so I took it back over to Alton Self Storage and parked it there overnight . I came back the next day after they were already open not even before they opened up and they said it's ok to leave your truck parked there behind security gates so you know your truck and household items are safe there overnight . They let you use their dollies where Public storage locks theirs up and makes you go into the rental office give them your drivers license and they give u a key that unlocks their dollies which WHO HAS TIME FOR ALL THAT ! Alton Self Storage lets you use 2 Dollies at a time . I have used 4 dollies all at same time when no one else was there needing them . This place is clean , has a switch in your unit to turn on for more light . The bathrooms are Always clean , and they always have soap and paper towels to use . They even keep a trash container in the restroom . Where most self storage places take out the trash cans and they use a hand blower . This place lets you prop open the automatic doors so you don't have to keep entering a 7 digit # to enter the building. I recommend Alton Self Storage if you are going to rent a storage space in Irvine . They are honest , friendly people , and are there to assist you . This really is the BEST AND CLEANEST SELF STORAGE PLACE IN IRVINE AND THEY STAY OPEN TIL 9 pm EVERYDAY . Including HOLIDAYS !!!?! read more

Since my move in I have been increased $33.00 (60%). When I inquired about this facility I specifically asked if they were going to be constantly increasing fees, manager said no. My move in was 12/15/16 rent was $55.00 which was reasonable. In September they raised the rent $22 which I found to be a bit exorbitant. Now I'm being raised to $88.00 another $11.00. I received a note asking everyone to refer friends to rent here but how could I do that knowing that within a years time their rent would increase 60%!!!! Really not a way to keep good paying customers!! I do not write reviews about businesses, but felt I needed to write this one!! Now I am looking for another facility!! Beware the storage agency starts off with a low price and after 6-7 months they raise their prices really high. My price for my 10x10 unit went up by $55.00 dollars. I believe it's not good customer friendly. The company knows you have to paid the enormous price until you can find another unit somewhere else. In the meantime your stuck paying their prices until you can do better. read more
