Almresi is a fantastic option for a wonderful dinning experience in Vail. A reservation is REQUIRED. The restaurant is very small and people sit for a very long time, so if you don't have a reservation, I doubt you'll get in. The restaurant is gorgeous with a swiss chalet theme. The host stand area is a bit crowded but they they have an area to leave your coats which I think is essential in Vail. The fondue was incredible! We started with some drinks and wine, then had the truffle cheese fondue appetizer, which was fantastic. Each of us then did the full fondue experience. Just WOW. There was so much food, there was more than enough to go around. I honestly think we could have done 2 portions and shared it between the three of us it was so much. The fondue setup was incredible though, a three layer warmer one at the top with broth, a hot grill in the middle and a broiler at the bottom to melt cheese and the fixings in little dishes. The dessert case looked incredible but honestly we were so stuffed we couldn't even get any dessert. 10/10 experience, you have to go if you are in Vail!
Go! Go now! Food- wonderful gizmo that I dare not call a fondue pot. Upstairs you cook in broth, middle level you sear and first level is a salamander style oven. I want one for home. Service- Guy came and checked in on us multiple times. Ambiance- Relaxing setting after a day of runs at Vail. There were some louder folks but our focus was on the food. Glad we went there, even though it was a pricier meal. We won't get the opportunity like this anywhere near California and the meal was delicious.
A really lovely experience in Vail. The Austrian ambiance is over the top on just the right way, and it fits in with Vail's faux-Alp atmosphere quite well. The food was also delicious. I tried the porcini mushroom soup with truffle dumplings and all of it was delicious and savory and warm, and even served with a delightful carnation on the side! For the main course I tried the pork shank (Schweinsaxon?) and the meat was fall off the bone good. The mashed potatoes were tasty but the sauerkraut was truly phenomenal. It's not a bargain meal, but it's not nearly as expensive as it could be, being tucked into Vail and visited by a very wealthy cadre of visitors. The service was also great. I commented on one of the waitstaff's steampunk goggles and he asked if I wanted to try them on for a photo op. I declined, but laughed at the invitation. All our questions were answered with politeness and ease, and I was quickly taken care of when I asked to buy a slice of cake on the way out. Would love to make this an annual December visit tradition.
This Austrian German cuisine restaurant is beautifully designed. We loved the dining area. The staff are super friendly from the hostess to our server ... all very welcoming and friendly. Our server provided great recommendations. The food was tasty and loved how all the flavors came together. We ordered the short rib ... was a tiny bit dry but still tasty with the gravy. The pork shank was my favorite ... so tender and juicy. The mustard they have with the dish is soooo good, best mustard I've ever had!
Giving this a 5 star no complaints about this place, food was delicious, our waiter was super nice and helpful, it's so cute and themed, nothing bad to say, would come back again and again
Very cute European ambiance with a traditional Bavarian menu. Host, bartender, and waiter were very friendly, helpful, and attentive. For the above, 5/5. However for me, the food was a bit of a disappointment. Pretzel and brat (2/5): bland. Thank goodness for the mustard otherwise would be hard to eat alone. Pork shank (SCHWEINSHAXE): (3/5) sauerkraut was good. Mashed potato's dry. Pork lacked additional flavor. Short ribs (SCHMORBRATEN) 2/5: short ribs lacked flavor. Spatzel was tasteless - taste like air. Red cabbage was overwhelmed by apple. Maybe it's because we just returned from a trip to the alps where the food was so authentic and delicious, but the food here was a disappointment for taste. Ambiance and service were great
We love cute European places to dine, especially German ones because they remind me of my late father. Thank you for the delicious food. Definitely made me think of my father and how I wish to have shared more places like this with him.
We went to Almersi Vail while spending a weekend skiing in Beaver Creek, and were NOT disappointed! This place is IT. Using Open Table notifications, we were able to sneak in a reservation when another table presumably cancelled. We arrived on a Saturday night and were immediately sat for our reservation. My husband is from Germany and was so excited to hear German music playing, but not the over the top Bavarian polka kind... true German music. The atmosphere was great and felt very authentic. The food was just as good! We got the cheese fondue app, which was perfect for two people. And then I got a salad and hubs got a schnitzel. Everything was delicious! Prices were on par for the area, but the quality was there to match it! Our server, who I believe was named Danielle, was also fantastic! All in all, a great experience! We would love to come back sometime!
Perfect German meal. My friends who lived in Germany kept saying it reminded them of Germany. The decor and service were excellent. I split the fondue with my wife and it was very good. The server told us what all the fondue items were and how to cook them. The only downside to the fondue is that it was hot to sit next to. 8 people said thank you and goodbye as we left.
Wow! Very impressed with the great service we received in this restaurant. We had no reservations but they were able to comfortably accommodate all 7 of us! The presentation of the food was stunning. We enjoyed the pretzel as an appetizer and we all got a different drink. Mine was the best one in my opinion...the traditional German mulled wine is set on fire in front if you and allowed to melt the sugar before dropping it inside! All entrees were in point. I had a fresh salad and shared a pasta dish with my hubby. Definitely a nice treat overall!
My wife and I visited this place after hiking in the mountains for a few days at Rocky Mountain. The service was excellent and the place is very cute. Clearly authentic! Down to the staff! I had the Wiener schnitzel and it was absolutely awesome. I would have liked a little bit more lemons , but it really was outstanding. It's not very big, especially compared to the stuff that I had in Austria. However, it was delicious and I think about it often! Ha ha ha. My wife had the fondue and I thought that she was going to eat the plate beneath it because she loved it so much. The strudel was good, and had an excellent sauce, but, me being American, I wanted a little bit of ice cream with it and they didn't have any. Regardless, it was excellent although not 100% fresh. I would still order it!
If you have never tried an authentic German-Austrian dinner, I highly recommend you do so now! Almresi will get you in the spirit the moment you step foot into the restaurant. The restaurant is beautifully adorned with antlers, lots of wood, and plaid accents. The servers are dressed in traditional German clothing. The service is excellent; everyone here genuinely wants you to enjoy your stay. Begin your meal with a few schnapps, which are served in cute boot-shaped shot glasses. This will get you all warm and fuzzy for the food to come. I highly recommend the Schweitzer Rosti which is a Swiss potato pancake with homemade farmers cheese and smoke salmon. The ingredients of this appetizer paired perfectly leaving me wanting more. Spaetzels were interesting to try. Not my personal favorite; I rather much prefer American pasta. Order this as a side to spice up your meal. You can't go wrong! All in all, the experience far outshines the food.
Reviews are largely positive. Diners enjoy the authentic Alpine ambiance, flavorful German dishes, and friendly, attentive service. Drinks are also well-liked.

Went for Thanksgiving Dinner and was extremely disappointed. Service: our waitress only took our order and disappeared for the rest of the dinner. All the dishes were coming out late and different servers had to help us. Very unprofessional for no good reason (the restaurant was half empty). Fortunately, the bartender noticed the problem and helped us in the end, but the dinner was already ruined. Food: We ordered the house specialty and it was a very subpar bland meat (it was unseasoned chuck steak, FYI) that we had to cook ourselves (thank god they had salt and pepper on the menu) served with boiled whole potatoes and bread. Do not order as you will be disappointed. We also had gnocchi and they were very dry with almost no flavor. We mentioned our experience to the waitress (when she showed up at the end) and no action was taken. Located on the 2nd floor across from Shakedown Bar and Blu Cow Cafe, just a few minutes walk from the base of Gondola One. A themed restaurant with lovely service, menu, and food. Hubby and I enjoyed our dinner so much that we returned for lunch the next day. Charcuterie, Smoked Salmon Rosti, Bratwurst, and Pork Loin were all excellent. read more
A cool place to dine especially if you want a new experience. Went here on a Saturday around 8pm and the place was full. Reservation is highly recommended for the weekend. All of the employees here are from Germany or Austria. This a European cuisine (German/Austria) and the place feels like it is set in Europe. We started out with the cheese fondue. It was good given it's hard not to enjoy hot cheese with bread. For main dishes we shared the grilled salmon and the alpen gnocchi. The alpen gnocchi was our favorite dish of the two. It was on the heavy side but it's only 5 pieces so it's not too much portion wise. The salmon was light and thought the cedar it was wrapped around took the fishy taste which was great but hoped they would spiced it up a little. Finally we finished off with the apple pie and vanilla sauce (apfelstrudel) l. It was good but nothing special, hoped for a sweeter taste. First things first - this is Vail so I'm going to ignore the obnoxious prices. Almresi wasn't overly high for Vail, but it's pricy if you don't know what you're getting into. The best thing about this place is the atmosphere. Literally feels like i'm in a different country. The decor seems really authentic and i'm pretty sure all of the staff is from Germany. It's definitely an experience that we very much enjoyed, especially because we did not have much exposure to this type of place in the past. The food is good, but it's nothing to write hone about. Definitely quality ingredients but It's kind of hard to "wow" with traditional German dishes. Great for after a long day but you can only do so much with braised meats and fondue. The salad was really underwhelming but that was a bad choice to begin with at a place like this. Drinks were great, albeit expensive. The spritz is very interesting and they have some decent wine. I didn't have any beer but they obviously have a few German varieties. Overall, I'd still recommend this place to people visiting the Vail Valley, but more-so for the atmosphere and fun than for the food. read more

Perfect! Almresi lives up to all the 5 star and positive reviews others have shared on Yelp. From the host to signing the check, the entire experience is end to end Michelin Star without one iota of pretentiousness. The entire Almresi team are so personable and fun to engage in conversation. We heard from the hotel concierge that not only are the decorations and recipes imported from Austria but so are the staff. Regardless, you are transported with the warm decor of animal hide pillows, wood furniture, hanging metal canteens and cow bells? to hints of modern coolness on the art work. All of this warm blanket ambience was the perfect backdrop to the top notch food. We started with the fondue where the cheese barely had time to conceal as it was so quickly devoured. We did opt for the brandy boot shot for the added experience which interesting came with a different sequence of events depending on who you asked -- first dip bread in brandy boot then the cheese fondue or alternatively dip bread in fondue, eat, and then sip brandy boot. Either way, too strong like grappa for my wife or I so we just enjoyed dipping into the heart shaped bowl filled with ooey deliciousness. Philip, our main waiter, was so helpful. He described the dishes with tasty precision and we ended up taking all of his recommendations starting with the Old Bavarian, Almresi's twist on the Old Fashion which was in the top 5 ever. For entree, we shared the pork shank. It was so good we took the leftover to put in the hotel fridge as it was simply too good to waste. For dessert, we once again listened to our sage Philip by partaking in the Apfstrudel, a warm apple pie/turnover with vanilla sauce. Like eating heaven and being wrapped in a warm blanket on a chilly night. Can't wait to be back on Vail and have an opportunity to eat here again. read more

WOW!!! That's how to describe this place. We made 6pm reservations and were warned by the reservationist to "come hungry". We arrived and as we walked up the stairs to the restaurant we were transported to a German/Austrian alpine house. We were greeted warmly and were escorted to our table. Our server Tobias, whom was proud to tell us he has been here for one week took extremely diligent care of us. As for food and drinks the choices are limited, but in the best possible way!! We choose the meat and cheese platter for the two of us to start off with...what a mistake!! It was so big and so delicious that we forgot we ordered entrees!! The German ham and the farmers cheese were out of this world. I couldn't stop eating the pretzel and dipping it in the amazing mustard it was served with!! As far as the entrees we ordered the pork shank and the short ribs. Again out of the world. We were so full after the appetizer but we kept plowing through!! The short rib was served with red cabbage and speztle. Amazing. The pork shank was with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut.. we couldn't finish...but it made a great breakfast Ok so totally full. What do you order DESSERT!! we ordered the apple strudel to share and two shots of "Christmas" cordials. The strudel came with fresh berries and vanilla sauce. So good. I was not a fan of the drink but my boyfriend, who is from Europe, said it reminded him of home.- Can't wait to go back there next summer and not walk out of there in a food coma!!! read more

This restaurant was absolutely awesome! We went for their first day of season, Thanksgiving. Authentic and felt like you were transported to the Swiss Alps for dinner! Presentation of food was art! Servers were all from the area they represented and made fantastic recommendations for food and wine. As many have complained it was hard to find. Stayed in Vail with a group of friends for my birthday. We had a reservation for 6 people at 7pm one night at Almresi. The table wasn't ready so we had to wait about 20min in a very tightly packed bar area. When we were sat the table was very small and cramped. The service, food, and overall atmosphere was absolutely impeccable! It reminded me of being back in Germany. The beer and food are a 5+ star! I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are visiting Vail. read more
The ratings are spot on! The atmosphere is authentically German, very pleasant and quaint. I was with a party of 4 with no reservation, so we ended up eating at the bar. Not a problem, the bar tender was pleasant and service was great. I had the pork knuckle. The pork fell right off the bone, it was so tender. Pleasantly this reminded me of the pork knuckles I devoured on a recent trip to Berlin. This was the best knuckle I've had in the US. The others with me also enjoyed their meals. One commented it was the best salad he ever had (the Happy Creek Trout Salad). I have to admit, I want to go back and get one. The other had the ribeye, which again, was cooked to perfection, flavorful and artfully presented. To top it off, the beer is also fantastic and adds to the German experience. This is the real deal! We made a 6 pm reservation for the four of us. The restaurant is located on a pedestrian only street, so we walked with our big stroller as we have 4 and 1 year olds. They were happy to store our stroller for us. The staff were dressed in Swiss outfits and all of them had German/Swiss accents! The decor was DIVINE. I wanted to move in and never leave. We decided to split the fondue and pretzel appetizer. Compliments of the kitchen we were also sent bread with the pork "butter" (lard mixed with something else), topped with fresh veggies. It was SO good. As we had so many appetizers, we decided to split an entree, we ordered the pork shank and it was one of the best meals of my life! It was so flavorful and tender. I topped it all off with the Lumumba (hot chocolate with rum). So yummy!!! The staff were so sweet with my kids and our server, Marcus, was fabulous. Best meal of our vacation. read more

This restaurant's entire façade and décor looks German and Austrian, which is not the typical cuisine I'm drawn to but my husband is, so we stepped in at a quiet hour nearing dinnertime. This was like an adventure: the weather was glorious, we sat outside in the balcony, our server (wearing authentic lederhosen) enhanced our visit 10 fold, since he was perfectly conversational without being intrusive, and we talked about everything from the restaurant's inception to the impact of legal weed. Don't be thinking this is all about sauerkraut and red cabbage because the menu is creative with enough American style to offer something for everyone. The bread with vegetable spread is addictive but I scraped a lot of the butter off; it's too much. I chose the Schweizer Rosti, which was delicious (smoked salmon) but the accompanying SWEET potato pancakes would have received rave reviews from me on their own. Yummy!!! All of their presentations are clever and beautiful. I can't remember the name of our dessert but I tried to eat as much as possible before my husband stole it: crispy chunks of pancakes(?) with a cherry compote. xoxo This place is not to be missed, we loved everything about it! We stopped by after a long day of skiing. The host was very pleasant and was able to get our group of 4 seated without a reservation. Victoria was our waitress and she was excellent! The food is outstanding and the service was unbelievable! Everyone is so nice and the fact that the entire team speaks German, makes the whole dining experience even more memorable. Markus gave us fantastic recommendations (the cheese and meat board was simply delightful!!!) The portions are generous and the flavors well balanced and delicious. Presentation is also beautiful! Loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, decor is cozy and warm. Makes you feel like you are in a small tavern, somewhere in the middle of the Alps... Dreamy!! Considering the quality of the food and service, I believe the prices are very reasonable. Particularly if you compare it to other restaurants in the area that have similar prices. Those places don't even get close to the experience we had today!! (Food and service wise) Loved this place, definitely coming back! read more

Authentic German/Austrian ambience and menu. A great retreat from the cold, take time to enjoy the warm welcoming environment, a lil piece of Europe in Vail. We enjoyed the warm Bavarian pretzel, potato soup and Brat wurst with potatoes and kraut- all was authentic as I remember from living in Germany for 4.5 years! highly recommend. read more

I LOVE this restaurant for multiple reasons: the atmosphere is gorgeous, the staff is very welcoming, the food is out of this world, it's locally owned by a brother/sister team who run it, and it's something completely different from every other restaurant in town. It's fresh, comfort food made with love and pride. I have been twice. The first time was on a birthday date. I had the pasta which they made vegetarian for me and my date had the steak. The Almresi Pasta was flavorful, fresh and beautifully presented. It's big enough to split. My date had the Lumber Jack Steak which was so tender he was able to cut it with a butter knife and the gratin potatoes were amazing. The best part was dessert we had the traditional KAISERSCHMARRN dessert with plum jam. It was a cross between a beignet and French toast bites. It's my go to dessert now. The second time I went was with a group of 11 for my birthday party. We had my favorite two food groups appetizers and dessert. To start we had (this description is taken directly from the menu) BROTZEITBRETT- Slices of ham, Bündnerfleisch, Prosciutto, salami sticks, selection of cheese, garden radish, grape and pretzel ALM PASTI Black Forest ham, Prosciutto, olives, feta, stuffed peppers, caprese sticks, fine herbs with crusty bread. These were big enough feed and fill all of us. I also has the Mountain Salad with homemade raspberry dressing it was to die for. To end the party we had two of each dessert Black Forrest cake, Apple Strudel, Cheese Cake and KAISERSCHMARRN. It's great for a date, party, and groups. The atmosphere was true German feel. The fur accents, staff outfits and music all created an authentic dining experience. Our server, Julian, was excellent - very helpful on deciding drinks for before our meal and during our dinner. The waters always stayed full, very appreciated after a day on the slopes. Our food was average - the salmon was mediocre and creamed spinach was cold. The vegetables for the fondue were a few baby carrots and slices of celery, was hoping for a little more. Definitely a fan of the red cabbage, who knew?! Great recommendation by waitstaff. Overall fun experience. read more

This is probably the best service we have ever had in the mountains. We had a larger party for Christmas Eve and got to the restaurant a tad early. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and happily accommodated our early arrival. They all helensured an awesome dining experience. The smoked salmon was to die for. The red cabbage and the pork shank were also awesome! The wrapped salmon was excellent as well! Can't wait to make it back for more fun and food. read more

Charming little restaurant that's tucked away near the base of the mountain. A hidden gem with authentic German/Austrian food. The servers are dressed with traditional Eastern European attire. Truly authentic German Austrian cuisine. The setting simulates a cottage in the mountains in Germany or Austria. Extremely cute and the food is amazing. Everything authentic from the decor, to the food, to the cocktails and beers, etc. In the middle of Vail which makes this location ideal being close to hotels and condominiums. Service is incredible. Hostess, waiters, truly hospitable. A MUST when you're visiting Vail. read more
