You can show up in your gym clothes and still be ok. The pistachio soft serve was the surprise I didn't expect. It was very good and very big! My wife had high hopes for our dinner at this place, not only because of the many good reviews, but because it looked like a nice elegant, classy, and very nicely decorated bar/restaurant. We stopped by at around 4.15pm, the place was virtually empty, with no hostess in sight. We noticed a menu nearby, so we grabbed one to look through while waiting for someone to notice us. A couple of minutes later, someone did, and informed us that dinner only started at 5pm, but we were welcome to sit in the bar area to enjoy some pre-dinner happy hour drinks and snacks. We thought that sounded like a good idea and agreed. Yes, this place is very nicely decorated, very elegant, and classy casual....as such, we expected the food here to be consistent with this. We sat at the back of the bar lounge area....where it was comfy and quiet. Shortly after, our server stopped by to welcome us and to take our happy hour drinks order.....we did so, along with a couple of happy hour snacks to start. We ordered the Tempura Vegetables....which comes with a basil aioli dipping sauce, and the Great Northern Bean Hummus.....which came with a few slices slices of toasted sourdough. With these two snacks, we ordered a glass of red and white wines each. Ok, so, I know this place has only been opened for about 3 months, so there's still room for improvement. First of all, the tempura vegetables was just broccolini....that's it. Second, the batter used was so thick and so cakey, we had to remove most of it just to get to the broccolini. Third, it was quite greasy. This is definitely not "tempura" style. The hummus was not too bad....went nice with the sourdough, but we didn't finish it because we didn't want to fill up on bread before dinner. Unfortunately, the "Tempura Vegetables" was so disappointing , and the humus was just an ok "filler," that we decided not to stay here for our dinner. We just finished our drinks, paid the check, and left. We really think the happy hour menu has to be re-worked with food items that people actually like, and will go well with a happy hour drink. Came in for the breakfast Buffett. The atmosphere is very nice. The staff was excellent. We're from Texas so we're used to talking and being friendly - the staff accommodated our friendliness well! Everything is top notch. My wife commented on how the silverware didn't cut into your hands. Three things were amazing on the breakfast buffet. The oatmeal, the yogurt (local from Washington and the best I've had), and the French toast. Wow. All were very very good. The eggs were some of the best buffet eggs I've had and the bacon was equally a solid 5 stars. They don't skimp on anything. Prices was about $28 for buffet and worth it. They only needed a way to toast their bagels and toast (apparently it was not working). Great and highly recommend! We returned for dinner and had several wonderful meals. The rigatoni was fantastic. The rib eye with bone marrow sauce was equally great. The salmon was good although we did not like the side dish with it. The Wagyu was one of everyone's favorite. This combination (restaurant of the hotel) usually made me realize I don't like my experiences because of the type of clientele they serve and menu is typically small, with lots of fried food and/or not really good. The restaurant is beautiful well decorated and huge, want feel a bit awkward because was not full in a Friday night. The service is very fast. The disappointment was really the food. Small selection with all dishes coming with fries. The best dish we had was the appetizer, ahi tuna tartar. Definitely worth to order. Main dish we ordered their stake dish that was not on the temperature we ask for (medium rare), it was over cooked and the mussels that were okay. ALL dishes come with fries. Maybe I didn't check well the menu but I can't recall to see other side options. I think what threw me off the most was when I ask for bread and they brought white sliced bread. I think how this restaurant is classified and rated the menu was so so and prices were high so I felt mislead. Our dinner was almost $200 and I think was over priced based in other experiences. After walking into a couple of other locations, we arrived to discover that someone was late for their reservation so we got a booth for ourselves, just before the restaurant filled. Highly recommend making a reservation in advance and arriving on time. We got the oysters, caviar tots with ikura or salmon roe (amazingly flavorful), the goat cheese gnocchi (salty and rich), the steak (another win), and the kiddo got the grilled cheese (which they enjoyed). I came to Alder and Ash because of their happy hour. They had a set of 6 oysters for $10, which is pretty good. The other items on the happy hour menu that I tried included Caviar Tots, which was a nice appetizer that went well with the oysters. I also got a stout beer to go with the oysters, which if you didn't know, actually pair well together. The dark, chocolate, bitterness goes well with the briny sea taste of the oysters. This also went well with the salmon eggs on the caviar tarts. The menu was very clean had has more of a a fine dining vibe, and is conveniently located by the convention center. For whiskey fans, I saw they had some good options, like E.H. Taylor Barrel Proof, Elmer T. Lee, and Blanton's. The bartender was also cool to talk with. I really liked the hummus platter and the mushroom risotto . The drinks are great. I ordered the cosmopolitan and Krish ordered something with scotch. Fun fact: They make scotch in house and distill it at least 3 times. The staff were fantastic and super welcoming. For dessert we ordered the flourless cake and pistachio ice cream. Their huckleberry one is not on the menu anymore but our server was super generous and she got 2 scoops of huckleberry ice cream for us. The main complaint I have has nothing to do with the restaurant but the people. WHY is it that like 75% of people who go out in Seattle, dress like garbage? The grunge movement is over, people. Put a little bit of effort into your appearance! NOW to my review. I love the fact that this place is back and has managed to maintain the same feeling that The Daily Grill used to have. They kept the couch area near the window. The happy hour menu still has fantastic small plates, and overall, the entire menu has a Pacific Northwest twist on American classics. The barkeeps are all very skilled when it comes to cocktails, but I'm not sure about their craft beer selection. This place sits downtown on the corner, 7th and Ash. You can get just a glimpse of the bar from the street, but there's quite a bit more seating inside, which is beautifully appointed. When I saw the menu, I wanted to try at least 5 items, but I'll definitely need to come back to try those other entrees. Lots to try, so little time. I am giving this place a one-star review because it was awful, but I will say staff was friendly and attentive and the review does not reflect the service in any way. The food could not have been more disappointing. I had the Alder and Ash burger and it was just sad. The menu describes the burger as "a wagyu beef patty, cheddar, crispy shallots, lettuce, house-made pickles, challah bun, A&A sauce" but it was indistinguishable from any low-end fast-food cheeseburger. It was small, the patty was flavorless, and the garnish was 2 average pickle chips and some limp lettuce. I would have preferred just a burger from McDs or Dick's. The burger would have had more flavor and it would not have cost $26. The meager handful of fries that came with it were battered and clumped together in a soft unappetizing mass. My wife had the shrimp scampi pasta and it was equally lackluster. It lacked garlic, lemon, butter and salt which are the primary elements of scampi so this was just shrimp and pasta. It was just flavorless rubbery shrimp in a small bowl of bland pasta. Add in 2 cocktails and 2 glasses of wine and this train wreck of a meal ran $151. And they added a 4% charge because things are expensive. Everything is expensive for everyone, so I don't see why Alder and Ash think they are special. Just charge whatever you are going to charge, list your prices, and let the chips fall where they may. Hiding additional charges until then end is cheeky at best and borderline dishonest. read more

Beautiful elegant dining room and great service. Our waitress at lunch was very friendly. We had brick chicken, tomato soup with grilled cheese, and salmon on crispy rice. The chicken and salmon food were solid but nothing to write home about. The tomato soup tasted strange - more bell pepper than tomato and accented with mint. No one at the table wanted to eat this. The grilled cheese was fine. Overall a nice and convenient place for a meal, but skip the tomato soup. read more

We were staying at the Sheraton the night before a cruise to Alaska, after a very long flight from Boston we were hungry and we really wanted a beverage, the gentleman behind the bar was very attentive to what we needed and made very good suggestions of the menu for us, it was nice and quiet, we had a few drinks. We ate wonderful food and met wonderful people, there were so many good things on the menu, but we ate late and went to bed, great restaurant if you ever traveling with a great weight staff. read more
