I've been here twice so far and the experience has been overall good. The first time I came was with my husband and my father-in-law for some drinks. We had dinner at home so weren't dining really but we got dessert. We had a table reserved and got there about 8pm It wasn't a busy night but we had one incase since it was our first time here. The ambience of the restaurant was very cozy yet romantic with an industrial look. I don't remember what each of us had to drink but the drinks were on point. Cocktails had ingredients that I never heard of that complimented each other in every sip. For dessert I ordered the Buttermilk (I think) Panna Cotta which was so light and refreshing as a dessert. We also got a sorbet on the house, I think it was a mango which was delicious and I don't normally like sorbet. Our server was very nice and friendly she was helpful with the drink selections each of us were feeling for and had us sample a taste before we ordered. Topped up water before it would get to half glass and would check on us often enough. The second time we came here we didn't have a reservation and it was around 7pm, the place was empty but we were told there were a few reserved seats coming in shortly. The host wasn't very pleasant and seemed impatient or annoyed. I'm not sure if it's because we didn't have a reservation or if it's because we didn't look appropriate to be dining there I'm not sure. We were dressed casual and were all over Boston doing shopping for the day since my mother-in-law was visiting Boston. Other than the host, the service here was very good. Our server was very informative of the options on the menu. He checked in on us as often as he could since it was a pretty busy night. Here's what we ordered/ recommend too: - Charred Haas Avocado - Such a light and refreshing salad. - Fried Green Tomatoes - This was good but had a olive taste to it which wasn't my favourite but everyone else enjoyed it. - Crispy Summer Squash - so crispy and soften at the same time. - Sweet & Spicy Cauliflower - This one was surprising. The body of it reminded me so much of chicken. - Farro Risotto - This was Good too - Grilled Half Chicken - This was my favourite and I don't normally order chicken at restaurants. The corn and quinoa underneath was so good. I wiped this plate clean. - Bone-In Berkshire Pork Chop - this was so juicy and tender. There was one dish that came that we didn't order which was the Creste De Gallo which was pesto pasta with cherry tomatoes. This came by mistake which we pointed out before we started eating it but we were told it was okay to keep the dish. Overall the food was delicious and we were stuffed. A lot of vegetarian items that I wish I could make as delicious as these in my kitchen. There was actually no room in our tummies for dessert as much as I wanted to get the Panna Cotta again. While we waited on the cheque a server came over to us with a small plate of bite sized chocolate chip cookies which I don't recall seeing on the dessert menu but I was thankful because it was just what I needed. The total for the amount of dishes we ordered wasn't bad at all especially in comparison to Barcelona Wine Bar or Oleana. read more

Oh no, something changed with this place. I haven't been here for about a year and was eager to return given the good experience I had in the past. For starters, we went on a Saturday evening and the place was half empty. Surprising, especially with how crowded it used to be. Maybe it was the cold weather? Who knows. We were seated right away by friendly staff but service was slow anyway. On looking at the menu, there were a number of changes and the entrees are about 40 dollars each. We ordered the duck breast and the fluke. Yikes! Despite the waiter insisting that the duck breast would be medium rare (no objections from us), it came out medium well and super dry. The fluke had a mushy crust and it seemed like the completely forgot to salt the fish! It was so bland and so expensive. On top of that, a fountain soda is $6 and they charge for refills. A small tea was also $6 which was ridiculous. overall the prices were way too much for what you get. On top of that, they still charged a 4% kitchen fee even though the prices went up. The management is passing off their staffing paychecks onto us in an unfair manner. I can see why it was so empty. The food has gone down, the service was lacking and the prices are outrageous. I had a GREAT time here! This is a great place to come before a show at TD Garden (which is what we did) or if the parentals are in town. Wine is offered by the glass, half bottle, and bottle. The cab glasses are enormous and make you feel fabulous whilst sipping on some wine. We ordered the oysters, fried pumpkin, la quercia prosciutto, everything spice baked potato, mushrooms +fregola, and the cheese burger. Here is a breakdown on our favorite dishes: LA QUERCIA PROSCIUTTO- If you're going with a cheese plate, this is the way to go. This is the only plate offered with both meet and cheese. This was amazing. The stracciatella cheese is so light and sweet and pairs perfectly with the fried dough and prosciutto. It's topped off with a drizzle of balsamic. The portion is large and worth the money! EVERYTHING SPICE BAKED POTATO- This dish was so unique! The outer shell of the potato is seasoned and very crispy! A blend of sour cream and black garlic is served as a thick sauce on the side of this dish. This was heavenly paired with the potato. MUSHROOMS+FREGOLA- I wasn't expecting much with this dish because we added it in to have a vegetable and something lighter to eat. However, this was great! If you like couscous, you'll like fregola. The rosemary and thyme seasoning were great. We ended up taking a piece of potato, dipping it into the garlic/sour cream sauce, and then dipping that into the mushrooms/fregola. Not a good experience. The food was decent, undercooked steak and salmon, but certainly not worth the price they charge. But their manager Sarah has the worst customer service I've seen in a while. Their website claims there is validated parking at The Beverly, and calling the restaurant as well as the garage to confirm got the same claim. But what they don't tell you is it's only a $5 discount, and I left with a $70 charge for parking. Validated parking anywhere else neans it's free parking, and when I called to voice my concern, Sarah accused me of trying to get a free meal and parking out of her. Maybe the food was a one time issue, but I won't be coming back to find out after how poorly she treated us after falsely advertising. read more

The flavors here are delightful and right up my alley-- I love a good fried brussels sprout and I adore prosciutto and burrata-- here they have stracciatella, which is stringier burrata. My only complaint is that it's not nearly enough-- my experiences with burrata and stracciatella in Italy have ruined me for these foods in the US. The amount of cheese is barely enough for two people, if one of those people is me. The restaurant is conveniently located next to TD Garden so it's a great spot to eat before a game. The last time we went right before a Celtics game, they forgot to give us bread-- and I knew it was a mistake because not only did I come here a week before and get bread, other tables had some. I would definitely recommend, but know that the bang for your buck isn't going to be excellent-- you're going to spend $$$ here. Definitely try it out at least once. read more

Would love to try again - coming next for brunch! Came for dinner on a Friday early evening. Alcove was mostly empty in the dining area, bar and outdoor patio were crowded though! I asked the host to move our reservation further from the bar since it was a bit loud, and he kindly did! Food options didn't wow me on paper, but the prosciutto starter with stracciatella and dough was delicious! Also had the grilled half chicken (surprisingly great portion size), which was tender and well glazed. Highly recommend both. We ended up staying for 2ish hours and noticed the restaurant got busy after 7pm, but wait staff was still great. Pleased with my meal, but am more drawn to the brunch menu! We accidentally ended up here but it was probably for the best! This best is huge and has the best view! Staff is super nice (accommodated us even without reservation) and the small plates to share were delicious. We all loved their Brussel sprouts and Avocado plates. The fried clams however was a laugh because it was more like fries with fried clam as a topping. Drinks were OK ish overall. Loved the location and the ambiance of this place. Was pretty disappointed by the brunch at this place, by both the quality of the food and the service. First of all, the location is pretty difficult to find and the view was not as amazing as it seems from pictures. However, the ambiance was really nice inside. We had a reservation and were seated right away. They were pretty busy on Sunday (probably due to Mother's Day), and the place got packed pretty quickly. Our server was clearly covering a lot of tables and it took him quite a while to even ask for our drink orders. My friend asked if they could make a certain item vegetarian, and the server's response was "probably not with the crowd in here right now, but I can check with the chef." Not only is that not an acceptable response, but we don't believe he asked the chef at all (saw him putting orders into the computer system 2 minutes after speaking to us). We ended up getting the cheddar biscuit, the fried chicken sandwich, and the avocado toast. The cheddar biscuit was fine, but I would not go out of my way to get it. The butter with chives in it was pretty mild. I would have liked it to be a little stronger given that the biscuit was pretty bland. The fried chicken sandwich was probably the most bland fried chicken I have ever had. The first time it actually came out it looked pretty raw so I had to send it back and ask for another one (they ended up taking it off the bill which I appreciated). Either way, was pretty disappointed. My friend's avocado toast had an amazing presentation, but there was nothing unique about the flavor. She found it to be pretty average. It got pretty crowded so make a reservation if you can. We started with the New England Beef Carpaccio and it was very good. I got the Pan seared sea bream and it was man it was incredible. The menu is mix of land a sea items..very New England so perfect for the area. All our food was incredible. They are known for their drinks so I got Garden Gmone which was super delicious. The cocktails were delicious and all the food we had was amazing. We had oysters, octopus, crudo, Haas avocado, the branzino and steak were superb. We went here on a beautiful warm fall day only to be horribly disappointed by the entire meal. We ordered each a glass of mascalese wine and I expected a red; they brought something that looked like Rose. They brought us a different red. It was eh. We started with zucchini fritters. Decent but pretty salty. We should have just left when my husband ordered the Impossible Burger and the server looked super perplexed when he asked for it medium rare. She said "I can ask"... the burger was terrible, it was a frozen burger PATTY! Nothing special at all. Not even tomato, lettuce, nothing. I had the fish tacos. This place was great! The waitress helped recommend a Coral Cocktail, which was slightly sweet and had a very interesting flavor. We started out with bread and crab claws, which I enjoyed but were too cold for my dining partner. I got the sea bream which had a delicious red sauce and quinoa. It was well cooked and everything was as expected. The place is fun and moderately noisy from the dinnertime chatter. Yelp truly helped out with this restaurant choice. Went to see Andrea Bocelli in Boston last Saturday and wanted to have dinner with my family before the show we were attending. I did some investigating of places that take reservations and are within walking distance from our parking area as well as TD. This place popped up and lucky for us, we were able to get a reservation for 5:30. We arrived a bit early but they still sat us, nice little four top table. The place has a bistro like feel with a contemporary ambience, and it's right on the water which is nice although it was cold and night time so that would be an added bonus in nicer weather. The service was fantastic - everything came out timely and the staff seemed to just run things out to tables as they were ready which is great. There's a great selection of wines by glass or bottles and we opted to try a nice Greek wine. We had decided early on that we would sample a number of appetizers and then share a couple of entrees. We had the octopus which had a very Eastern European style to it - lightly tossed in flour then pan fried and served with fried wedge potatoes, an aioli and olives. We also had a charcuterie board that came with pulled buffalo mozzarella type cheese, prosciutto and fried wheat dough (a bit like naan). Next, we got a boatload of oysters, crispy shrimp with heads (don't knock em til you try em) and a side of shishido peppers that were roasted and so good. My cousin and I shared the burger with a side marrow bone. It was so good, the burger, the herbed marrow as well as the fries that seemed to be tossed with cumin and some other fragrant spices. My mom and aunt shared the branzino and said it was tasty. We ended the evening with cappuccinos and tried the Olive Oil Semifroddo (SP) which was very good!! I'll definitely be back here. read more

Our party of 5 stopped in for lunch today. We were slow to be seated even though the restaurant was over half empty. We received water and were eventually acknowledged by a so called server that asked if we needed anything else. (Drinks would be a nice starting point!! ) She rushed us to order and was contrite about our choices. I'm still trying to figure out the "why" but her condescending attitude and indifference were a distraction. My husband had to track her down to get the check after our average food and overpriced drinks were consumed. An added insult was the charge for a second soda by one of our guests and an add on tip to the back of the house which I believe should be guest option or at least explained. We had a very uneven experience tonight at Alcove. We had been there pre-Covid and loved it but tonight was not good. The reservation was honored, and we were seated promptly. The drink orders were taken and came quickly. The entrees and appetizers were ordered. That is when things started going downhill. The two sides/appetizers were undercooked. The roasted brussel sprouts were mushy not crispy. The peppers were barely warm. The duck and chicken entrees were good but the burger was way undercooked. Medium well was just past rare. Then the service slowed. It was 20 minutes after we had all finished eating and 15 min past when the staff cleared the dishes that we were offered dessert menus. We passed on the menus since we had used the 20 minutes to access the menu on line. An after dinner drink of a Chocolate Martini was totally botched. We were done with dessert when it finally arrived. It was not in a martini glass and seemed to be just chocolate liquor and vodka - no Bailey's and no chocolate syrup or anything. Getting the check and paying the tab was another 15 minute ordeal. We barely made the start of the Celtics game as dinner was almost 2 hours. To be fair we did not complain as we just wanted to move it along so management had no opportunity to make it right. Still, it was very disappointing. read more

My group also waited a while for the waiter even though it didn't seem busy. The waiter wasn't well versed on what was on the menu.. I wanted a Pepsi, but he brought out coke. Most waiters would ask if that was okay first. When they brought out the oysters we weren't told which oysters were which, so that was a bummer. If you're paying top dollar for food and services, I expect little things like that to be covered. Train your staff. Regardless of that, food was great. Alcove is located on the lovejoy wharf area and has a cute date/hangout vibe for anyone looking to have some cocktails and food. My friends and I dropped by here while we were waiting for our table at nightshift and ordered a few cocktails as well as their charcuterie appetizer. The cocktails were decent but the charcuterie was really good! It came with their daily selection of meat/cheese, olives, pesto, and some grilled bread (which were unlimited). This was a great appetizer to share and the prices weren't too bad. Service was also great and the restaurant does a great job of spacing all the customers apart. Come here for the cocktails and raw bar; skip the food. This place was packed at 5:30 on a Friday, but I heard there was a game at the Garden so that's probably why. We were seated without a reservation right away, and the service was very quick (because of the game?). The cocktail list is interesting, with a little something for everything, and I thought our choices were bright and balanced and very tasty. The shrimp and littlenecks I had were fresh, and I particularly enjoyed the mignonette that accompanied them, which was one of the better raw bar sauces I've had. I ordered them as a starter, but note that they came out at the same time as my entree (again, because of the game?). Sadly, my main dish was very disappointing. I ordered the Scallops and Pork Belly, and absolutely nothing on the whole plate had a speck of salt or any other seasoning on it- not the scallops of varying sizes (which were mostly well-cooked at least), or the 2 large pieces of pork belly (which was somewhat crispy at least), or the thin mealy apple slices, or the decidedly non-crispy sweet potato crisps, or the orange goo (which I think was meant to be sweet potato as well), or the quinoa which had some kind of stringy stuff scattered throughout. Fortunately the table had a salt and pepper shaker (in retrospect, a bad sign), and I had to use it three times to get the dish even halfway edible, and even then I gave up and didn't finish my meal because it was just not satisfying. I'm frankly impressed in particular at just how bland the sweet potatoes/goo were- I can roast a completely plain sweet potato in my oven, put nothing on its flesh (not even salt!), and it tastes hundreds of times better and move flavorful than what was on my plate. Epic fail (and an expensive one, at $29). On the plus side, my husband's cheeseburger was quite flavorful (albiet with some structural issues)- his accompanying fries though suffered from the same complete lack of salt, which is mind-boggling because salt is the most basic tool in the kitchen. I hate blowing a good chunk of $ on a bad meal, but that was our experience. read more

I was discouraged to try this restaurant by other review but I was pleasantly surprised by an amazing meal and experience! I went with a small party over thanksgiving and was immediately impressed by the pretty scenery and overall ambiance overlooking the bay. The service was kind and attentive but not overbearing. The thanksgiving specials were delicious (bay scallops and turkey plate) and the appetizers were equally if not more impressive! Phenomenal birthday dinner for my wife. This was our second time coming and we are already planning our next trip back. The carbonara is incredible- you have to try it. The chocolate pate with raspberry sauce was also delicious. Another true stand-out is the phenomenal wine pairing recommendations- the best we've had to date. Full disclosure: my wife and I stopped in only for a few quick snacks and a couple of drinks. We only ordered two food items: oysters and the crudo. The oysters were pleasant and all, but the crudo was hands down one of the worst things I've paid for in a restaurant. I couldn't tell you what varietal of fish was served to us, given the fact that it was SWIMMING in a repugnant sauce akin to KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce. To add insult to injury, there were a few globs of what I can only imagine was supposed to be avocado mousse, which was entirely gummy and tasting like a chemical vape pen. My wife and I each had a bite and couldn't eat any more of the dish. The menu described "wasabi" and "avocado", so I honestly have no clue what the cloyingly sweet bbq-esque sauce was doing on fish. There are a few reasons why I am not giving Alcove a 1-star: the beer and wine list was awesome, the service was friendly as well as efficient, I feel guilty during Covid, and my wife swears their dinner items were tasty during her previous visit. I dined at Alcove for the first time for an Easter brunch. We chose this restaurant for the reasonable prices, variety of menu items/specials, and nice view. The experience at Alcove had a fairly even amount of positives and negatives, hence the 3 stars. When we arrived for our reservation, we were taken to a table in the back of the restaurant next to a bright red wall, which was slightly off-putting and not what we had in mind for a view. We requested to be moved to one of the several other open tables, and we were quickly accommodated by the manager, who then took our drink orders. While we were waiting on those (which took a while to arrive), we ordered a pastry basket with another server. While we were waiting on that (which also took a long time), a different server asked if we wanted to order our meal. We did, and waited a bit longer until our starter came. The pastry basket was quite good, and though it only came with one of each pastry they were large and filling for four people. Our food came, and this is where I had the main issue. To preface, the brunch menu we were given at the restaurant was not the same as the brunch menu on the website, which was slightly disappointing for someone who likes to plan out what they are having ahead of time - the item I was looking forward to was not on the menu, so I ended up ordering the croque madame. When it came, there was no fried egg on top - no big deal, maybe the server thought I said "monsieur". So I asked, and he said "no, you can add an egg separately". This confused me, because on the menu it said that by ordering the croque madame you would get an egg. We had a few moments of confusing dialogue and then he said he would just get me an egg to put on top and quickly left, with my dish still sitting in front of me. It quickly became cold and unappetizing as I sat and waited a while for the egg - when it finally came my party was almost completely done with their meal, and I had to put the egg on top myself. To sum up, I think the delivery by the server could have been more apologetic (because he was the one who made the mistake), as it made me feel like I was the one who had messed up. The others thought their food was good, though (shrimp tacos, breakfast scramble, French toast). An additional sidenote is that yet ANOTHER server came to check up on us during our meal - it diminished the continuity of the dining experience and was slightly confusing to have a different server every 15 minutes. But a MAJOR positive was one of the managers, DJ. From the very beginning, he was incredibly hospitable, helping us get our table sorted out and at the end having a very lovely conversation with us. He spoke highly of the restaurant owner and his experience there, and was very personable, even asking each of our names. His kind demeanor and genuine helpfulness have added stars to this review and will likely get us to come give Alcove another try! Overall, this restaurant did several things right, but I think it would benefit from educating their waitstaff on the menu items to ensure simple/efficient communication with diners. read more

Alcove is a romantic spot in the LoveJoy wharf in Boston's north end. We were lucky enough to score a spot at the bar on Valentine's Day. The bartender was extraordinarily accommodating and it was obvious that his goal was to ensure that our evening was special. Alcove does farm to table small dishes that are Mediterranean and Asian inspired. We started the meal with the grilled avocado. This dish comes to the table as a true master piece. The entire fruit is blackened on the outside and filled with a chipotle aioli. The aioli has a spicey element that was the perfect contrast to the creamy smoked avocado. We then shared the salmon tartare. This dish is reminiscent of a deconstructed sushi roll. The salmon is simply dressed and atop a black rice and garnished with crispy nori leaves. We decided to construct our own little sushi rolls table side. I thought this dish was unique, light and refreshing. We then had the sweet and tangy cauliflower. The cauliflower was Kung-pow style. It was crispy on the outside and dressed in a sauce the was sticky and undeniably delicious. Finally we shared the octopus and the everything-seasoned baked potato. The octopus was Spanish inspired and atop roasted potatoes. This dish is dressed in a romanesco style roasted red pepper and tomato sauce. The everything baked potato wasn't anything special, however the black garlic aioli on the side was to die for. Very interesting first experience here. Reserved a table in advance for a bday party. Took us half an hour to get our drinks... when we went to order appetizers the waiter told us we should just order our meal because the kitchen was backed up. It was a concert night at the Garden but I've never been to a restaurant, especially one that's expensive and been told not to order apps. Remember, this was supposed to be a bday celebration. Ordered our food and portions were small. My halibut was in a bed of some sort of zoodles and did not come with the bamboo rice or mango salad in the menu description. Didn't ask if we wanted dessert and just handed us the bill. Not even a birthday dessert. Restaurant is very loud. For an expensive restaurant it is not worth your money. read more

It was my first visit to Alcove, and I loved it! The server was super nice, and the ambience was also nice-good for a date, for sure. Oysters were good, but definitely have seen better ones in Boston. I strongly recommend salmon tartar- I would go back for that. Carbonara was good too, though was a little too salty. Overall it was a nice experience! read more

I ate at this place for the first time tonight and was very appalled. The menu is very strange and they don't have a wide range of entrees. After having to pull up the lunch menu at the dinner table because the dinner menu was so bad, I ended up ordering the fish tacos. I was served RAW fish in my tacos. Completely clear and slightly pinkish. I was disturbed and gave back my food. I was so frustrated with my experience that I didn't even ask for another meal. Only came here because it was the only place I could make last minute reservations and now understand why they had so many open tables. read more
