I definitely recommend the lamb chops. Next came our steaks. I opted for the grass fed New York strip and my partner got the ribeye. We shared the chimichurri sauce which was a perfect a pairing for our steaks. If I had to choose between the two steaks, I'd go for the grass fed New York strip. This will be our last visit to ALC. What was once a local staple for special occasions, has fallen below the quality of Texas Roadhouse. Service: We booked a reservation for my wife's birthday/our wedding anniversary since we celebrate them together, and had a $100 gift card to use on this visit. In the reservation notes, I mentioned it was our anniversary, and the gift card presented to the server said happy birthday. Neither of these occasions were recognized by any of the staff at any point during our visit. Not that they need to, but really surprised that it wasn't for the prices they charge. Our server never once asked how the food came out, which will play an important role later. Food: We ordered the Caesar salad as a starter, it was underwhelming and the dressing is more of an Italian dressing than a traditional Caesar. I had the $73 porterhouse with the Gorgonzola butter on the side. She had the Picanha special - one of her favorite cuts. We both specified medium rare, yet both came out rare as can be. Dark red meat, with a cold center. The meat was poorly seasoned and lacked flavor. I'm not usually one to use the provided salt and pepper on anything ever, but found myself using them multiple times. Not once did our server ask if the steak was done to our liking, or even ask how the food was, giving us an opportunity to mention the preparation. The beauty of the porterhouse is having a filet, and a strip in one cut. The "filet" on this particular steak yielded roughly 3 edible bites amongst a sea of connective tissue and unrendered, inedible fat. A truly dismal cut of meat for $73. For dessert, we had the recommended brownie. It was over cooked and smothered in chocolate sauce attempting to mask the poor quality of the dish. Overall, we were truly disappointed with our most recent visit to ALC, and likely will not be returning for any occasion moving forward. read more

I finally checked out ALC Steaks after I was told by many how great it was. The food was delicious and fairly priced which is phenomenal but the drinks and service were subpar. Our server constantly forgot about us, it took about 20 minutes to be greeted when we sat down and this continued throughout the night. My wife and I are lifelong Austinites, while we've visited other steakhouses, we finally visted ALC. Needless to say, we were thoroughly impressed with ALC. The bone-in Ribeye was excellent! It was cooked to perfection, tender and extremely tasty. The salad and sides were fresh and delicious. The blueberry pie was the best we've had. Our server, Torick was very friendly, knowledgeable on the wine selection and accommodating. Diego the manager, personally came over to greet us and wish and hand a happy birthday greeting card. Came here with my kids for happy hour. First, we were seated inside the restaurant and realized we don't get the happy hour deals unless we sit inside the bar area. So we were moved outside in the heat even though we had a reservation. We sat outside and ordered appetizers, the escargot, shrimp, and fried oysters. The escargot was ok, the shrimp were tough, and the oysters were very big and good. We then ordered the cheeseburger, chili dog, and the Reuben. Overall, the food was ok, but the customer service was just ok. Our server never smiled, never seemed happy, and we pretty much felt like we were a bother. We noticed that they charged extra for fries and the cheese on the burger, almost $10 just in extras. We finished our food and drinks and left. We probably won't be back. The service wasn't that great, and we paid over $119 for 3 of us. There are other happy hour locations with better deals and friendlier waitresses. read more

Cooking steaks is hard, I wouldn't trust the process with people who can't even answer their email. Sadly, I can't speak to the food at ALC. I emailed them and left two messages in an attempt to make a four-person reservation for my husband's 50th. I wanted to discuss some add-ons, like maybe a pre-ordered cake and hoped the manager would have some other fun ideas. Sadly, ALC never saw fit to respond to me in any way. Upon my second phone message, the girl just asked me why I didn't make a reservation on OpenTable. I told her I found the process impersonal and repeated what I said here about the special nature of the dinner. Obviously no one cares. I wound up speaking to the concierge at our hotel. She politely told me that they "don't really recommend" ALC and put me directly in touch with another restaurant manager who responded to my email in under six hours and was really happy to help me plan something special. A 4 because our filets made up for the bare minimum service and terrible cocktails. You can never go wrong with a filet Oscar style and I wasn't left disappointed. The roasted broccolini was dynamite...just full of flavor. Do not recommend chicken fried tuna or the salmon, simply go with the steaks and stick with wine. Happy anniversary to us! ALC Steaks was far and away one one of the worst restaurant experiences that we have ever had in Austin. So, congrats, y'all! Someone had once told us that this is an "old school" steakhouse that "folks in the know" go to for steaks in the city. We REALLY wished that we remembered who told us that--because that person is cleraly an idiot whose dining advice we would never follow ever, ever again. Upon arrive a surly hostess who failed to greet us led us to a dining room with busted up carpeting and grime on the walls. Charming! Our server--an old man who should not be working in customer service--basically threw menus at us and disappeared for a solid 15 minutes before coming to get our drink orders. When he did grace us with his presence again, he got our food order wrong, so we asked him to repeat it back to us to make sure that he got everything. Boy did this request touch a nerve! Quite piqued, he spit it back to us and stormed off in a huff. Wow! Still hoping that the food would make up for everything, we were crestfallen when our shrimp cocktail arrived. Our hope for an old school steak house glass with a bunch of shrimp hanging off side quickly dissolved when we saw four--yes, FOUR--shrimp on a plate that had two swimming pools of sauces on the side. LOL! What is all that sauce there for if you're only providing four shrimp???!! On to our next dish, the (mini) wedge salad that was drowning in a flavorless dressing and had the luxury of a few mealy cherry tomatoes tossed alongside it for effect. But here's the real piece de resistance of the night: the meat. We ordered the filet mignon medium and their fancy Wagyu prime rib ($75) medium. Normally we'd go for medium rare, but figured there would be leftovers and preferred the meat medium. What arrives? Two BARELY rare pieces of steak--BOTH of them were cooked incorrectly. And when we asked our waiter, he offered to take them both to the back and recook those very same pieces even though our sides were already out. We said forget it. The waiter must have said something to the manager who came over to our table to check on us (halfway through the meal) and his idea of customer service was to take our already half-eaten steaks and throw those babies back on the grill for us. JUST: WHAT? Did he offer to comp anything? Did he offer a dessert? Did he offer another correctly cooked steak to go? Did he do ANYTHING that would have indicated that he gave a flying hoot about our experience? No, he did not. Why is this guy running this restaurant? Is the industry hurting that badly??? At that point, we were so disgusted with ALC that we decided to leave: no second drink, no dessert, just box up what we have, and let's be on our way. The fact that we didn't completely stiff the server is miraculous. So, yeah, thank you for the WORST possible anniversary dinner that we have ever had. We would highly recommend NEVER going to this poorly-run restaurant that cannot even manage to cook a steak properly! read more

I don't think I've ever had a more rude customer experience at a restaurant ever. I was asking them about their food due to restrictions and allergies to determine what I could eat and and staff point blank said to me "are you really asking these questions when we're busy tonight?" I was so taken aback I didn't know what to say. I love ALC! We have been here several times and it's an Austin fave. We came last weekend to celebrate my fiancé's graduation. We ordered the hatch chili appetizer and the fried oysters. The sauce that came with the oysters were so delicious! We ordered two filets and the baseball deal they had going on. Didn't get pictures of the steaks because we were so ready to dig in! This was a hidden gem that I had never heard of until I was invited for a birthday dinner. The ambiance of the place is really nice and give you both upscale and private. The drinks and food were all great. I started with a Creme de Menthe and was blown away. I know they say it's a dessert drink, but I had one before my meal and one with it. It's all about having real tablecloths, knives, and that impeccable steakhouse service. I actually think ALC's main competition is its own bar food menu with Happy Hour discounts: If you time it right, you can do a serious steak sampler, sides, and booze it up for less than half the price. This has gotten to be my worst restaurant experiences EVER and I've had my fair shares of bad restaurant experiences. A friend and I went to this place for dinner. Our bill was $126.65. I decided to tip $30 in cash thinking of helping the waiter out so he doesn't have to wait until the end of the month. So I crossed out the tip line and put the total as $126.65. My credit card was charged $151.65 after a couple of days. Either the waiter or the restaurant decided to tip themselves an additional $25 without my consent. To make matter worse after, I wrote the restaurant demanding that they refund the additional charge. The general manager, Kara Oliver, did, but also wrote a nasty email saying that I was bullying them for asking for my money back otherwise I would write a bad review. I wonder who's bullying who for wanting them to do the right thing after the "mistake" was clearly on their part. Onto the food - shrimp cocktail order came out with 4 shrimps and 2 large pool of dipping sauces for $18. Most restaurants would at least provide half dozen. The burrata salad was a joke with a plate full of cherry tomatoes. The porterhouse steak was the worst part. We ordered medium. It came out right with pink center, but the meat was so tough, even on the tenderloin side. If anyone decides steak for dinner, do not ever choose this place! read more

Went to the steak house for my friends birthday. (2 couples ) I ordered 30z porterhouse medium with broccolini and wedge fries , steak came out rare , broccolini was charred to the point I looked around to see was there a fire . My my it was brutal. Steak fries came out instead of wedge fries. This wasn't a big deal. The steak quality was average / poor . They sell knives and I was curious to possibly buy some. Eh no won't be buying those as they were as blunt as a butter knife . We tried to order a appetizer from the bar as we wanted some hot wings aswell as 3 appetizers from main menu. We were told we couldn't . Found that amusing . We were quickly seated but the service was slow. They were slow to take the dirty plates from the table. They served steaks and 2 people in our party Had to ask for a forks, and then a simple request for a fork resulted in a smart answer from the server . For the price of the food ....the atmosphere and the quality did not add up. The reason for 2 stars the shrimp cocktail was awesome. They should call this Austin shrimp house as I it was only thing they got right . My friend also got the porter house and that wasn't cooked correctly at all. The servers dress code had me confused , I thought for a second I was at Hooters maybe a honky tonk. Completely Inappropriate dress code for a "upscale" steak house . ALC Steaks is practically an Austin tradition at this point. I visited ALC with my girlfriend for our anniversary dinner. While we never expect anything out of a note left on OpenTable, there was no fanfare for our anniversary from the restaurant. Would have been nice, but we were there for steak! The steak itself was cooked as ordered (medium-well), so props to ALC for getting it right the first time. The steak itself was flavorful and juicy. Our side of mac and cheese was okay, but lacked some punch. We appeared to be the only table that was not offered bread. Disappointing, as it appeared to be good! We ordered Creme Brulee for dessert and were pleased with what ALC delivered. In operation for over a year; how am I the first to review ALC on Tour? I encountered the food truck thanks to Mrs. Rooster's high tech job as a different truck shows up near every weekday. The scenario works like this; I get a text every morning around the time I get off work at the orange box informing me of the days food truck options. Let me tell you how prepared this food truck is. I usually sit on a curb and eat with the wife or end up braving the tech wanding, badging, laser eyed crack security guard if I want to eat with my wife inside the her building. ALC's truck brings tables and umbrellas! Think high bar tables and no chairs. I'm down with that; making an effort is half the battle for comfort. Driving from Drippin' Springs to the 360/2222 area I was wondering about how I was gonna cut my steak with a plastic knife and fork. The thought of steaks off a food truck left me perplexed how they were gonna really pull this off. Also on the menu was a special of the day Thai beef salad along with options for non meat eaters like a quinoa salad and portobello sandwich. My New York Strip and Frites was pre-cut for my dining pleasure. The bites that I chose to cut with the plastic utensils sliced with ease. Add in my sauce option of the creamy jalapeno horseradish with the steak with the mound of crispy fries; wowza. The wife dined on fish and chips with a chipotle tartar. Well, I'm sold on a five star rating. Friendly staff along with real dining options from my first ever traveling steakhouse. Came her for a bachelor party dinner and left feeling OK but not super impressed. First, the ambiance was generally fine, but the lighting in our room was way too dark. I was feeling sleepy by the end of the meal, and it was kind of hard to see the other people in my party. With respect to service, our waiter was pretty terrible. He was largely absent and we didn't feel like he did a great job at keeping us updated or seeing if we needed anything. It also took him forever to get our drinks, but that might have been more the bar's fault. Of course, the food is the most important aspect of any meal, and that side of the experience was pretty nice. The bread and butter that came out was tasty, and our bread basket was refilled almost instantly, which was pretty impressive. For my entree, I ordered a rib eye, Oscar style, with sauteed broccoli on the side. My steak wasn't otherworldly or anything, but it did taste quite nice and I enjoyed myself. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food as well, although at least a couple of my friends were grumbling about the service throughout the meal :) Overall, would not come back here if I was in Austin again for whatever reason. Heaven. Blue crab was whipped cream on top.), Ahi Tuna, Full Order (rare, executed beautifully, flavors seared in, decent egg rolls), 22 oz Medium Rare Bone In Ribeye (best dish of the night; tender, moist, excellent flavors), 30 oz Medium Rare Porterhouse (more gristle than expected, seemed like more fat than even the Ribeye, Filet Mignon party was good, not the best I have had, New York Strip part slightly overcooked), Homemade Steak Sauces (We got the sampler with Chimichurri, Makers Mark Bourbon, Roasted Garlic, + Jalapeño Bleu Cheese. All pretty good, especially the Bourbon, though seemed a little overpriced for $7), Tiramisu (weird that at a steakhouse, this was better than many Italian establishments I have had it at; no excessive cocoa powder, creamy frosting, fresh, moist), *The Bad + House Bread Rolls (little hard, lukewarm), Classic Escargot (tough, far too salty), Hearts of Romaine Salad (very small, like three leaves, I asked for no pecans, got them anyways), Gulf Shrimp, Scampi Style Steak Enhancer (unimpressive, definitely not worth it), All The sides were not only overpriced, but disappointing. Wedge Cut Potatoes (the only one somewhat reasonably priced at $4, though average, nothing special), Truffled Bacon Macaroni & Cheese (those truffles and bacon prices must have been minute, because none of us discerned any truffle flavor nor bacon, and it was disappointing in taste anyways), Green Chile Creamed Corn (creamed corn is not supposed to be dry), Asparagus with Chimichurri (fine, could have made this on my own), Flash Fried Spinach with Parmesan (spinach slightly burnt flakes). + The ambiance was supposedly romantic, yes. But we had to squint to see our food. *The Very Ugly + Rarely do I remove more than one star for service. Clearly, something seriously went wrong. We had a reservation. We were seated immediately. That was nice. + The first thing that occurred was that I told our waitress, Veasna, that I had a gift card because it said on the card to "Please notify your server before ordering". She dismissed me with a wave, something about at the end, already looking annoyed. I apologized, indicating the notation on the card. Silence. + She asked for our order. I asked her a few questioned, asked for a few minutes to look over the large menu. It took her another fifteen minutes before she returned. Admitted, she asked, "Are you ready now?" We ordered, and the dishes did come to our take with no excessive wait. The only mistake was the salad we ordered without pecans, that came with pecans anyways, but no corn. Without apologizing, Veasna bright us some extra corn. Her body language was impatient; she came back a few times too check on us, but with very little attention to our empty glasses. + To be fair, we were there past thirty minutes after closing. That being said, I do not feel this ever warrants the manager or owner (unfortunately I did not get his name) coming over and clapping, "Alright, closing, time for you guys to go!". There are more polite ways to ask us too please leave. And he did not even say it in a kind tone. All the other employees were outside smoking; he decided to turn off all the lights in the building except the dim one in our section of the dining room. + As we packed a few to-go boxes, the same manager came over, proceeding to literally and noticeably lean over and peer into my purse on the seat. The check had been paid, and I definitely had every intention of leaving a tip. In fact, I always like to tip generously, and was even willing to mostly forgive our waitress's supbar service. Until this manager. Seeing my wallet and a couple twenties sticking out of it, he felt the need to say with no shame, "She worked hard for you two. Are you going to leave a tip?" (This may not be his exact words but something very close to this. I cannot make these things up.) Seriously? Did you solicit me for a tip when you already saw bills removed from my wallet? + At that point, we were definitely done with the service there. On our way out, the host area was pitch dark, everyone else being outside. I always feel, tripping on something. No one cared. This is the perfect example of some very good food that could have been an amazing experience, but the service made for a night I never care to repeat. read more

Austin Land & Cattle is a perfectly fine steakhouse, especially considering it's on the less pricey side of steakhouses. Having said that...you can just, simply find better deals in Austin. You come to Austin for the BBQ, not the expensive steakhouses. We got seated immediately, and the waiter took our order promptly. Except, we then had to wait the better part of 45 minutes for our food. Not only did we have to wait 45 minutes, but when my top sirloin got to me, which I requested to be cooked medium, it was *very* bloody. So I did something I almost never, ever do, and I politely sent it back. They brought it back several minutes later, and screw me if that steak had even touched a flame. Just as red as when it arrived the first time. My friends were happy with their steaks. Both agreed that the NY strip was the best. The rolls were a bit dry. Desert was okay. I mean, I'm not trying to bash ALC but I think it's a problem inherent with steakhouses in general, and with Austin in particular. 12 oz. of BBQ goes a lot farther and breaks your bank a lot less than a 12 oz. steak. read more

After debating for a long time whether to go to ALC or Vince young steakhouse we opted for ALC. I was a bit worried to go seeing all the negative comments but we took a leap of faith. I've never eaten dry aged steak before so i was looking forward to it! We ordered the oysters texafeller as an appetizer, the dry aged 30 day old new york strip, and the 10 oz filet mignon with grilled shrimp. We also got a side of the ALC sauce (A1 sauce cough cough). The dry aged steak was 14 ounces and the most pricey option but hey, its a special occasion and i can make a good rib eye on my own. We asked for medium Rare on both. First impressions were that the water tasted overwhelmingly like dish detergent. We told our waiter and he immediately got us water that tasted fine. Service otherwise for the rest of the night was very slow and the waiter never really tended to us much or ask us how food was, he had a huge table of 10 next to us so it was reasonable. The bread rolls were okay, not the best I've ever had and the oysters came out fast and were tasty, but overall not amazing. Steak review: the dry aged steak was hands down the best steak I've ever had. Better than eddie Vs, perrys, flemings, fogo de chao, and estancia. It was just so good. I actually didnt use the sauce at all. It was the first steak I've eaten in my life that tasted so good i would be ashamed to use any sauce on it. Note: i grew up eating A1 sauce and steak isnt steak without it. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. It filled me up and i savored every bite. The brussel sprouts i ordered with it complimented it nicely. My boyfriends filet mignon was delicious but nowhere near the quality of mine. Not easy to find at night with no visible signage from the street, drove by it once and then on a Wednesday the parking lot was full where we drove around the parking lot twice for a narrow space, good thing we had a rental. Entering the restaurant it is very dark where many people are using their phone or flashlight to see the menu. Bread was excellent and fresh would recommend asking for more. Ordered the 22 oz bone in Ribeye and the 10 oz Ribeye with baked potato and asparagus chimicurra along with Gulf Shrimp and mushrooms. The Ribeye was prepared excellent and very tasty with a little bit of grizzle sticking between the teeth. Can always tell if you have a good quality prepared steak you don't need A1 or any sauce and the meat can stand on the taste by itself and this is the place. The mushrooms were a nice compliment to the beef as we placed on top of our steak. The baked potato was very good and with bacon and butter was just the way I wanted it. The Gulf Shrimp was also a good compliment to the meals as was the asparagus. The chimicurra sauce was okay and reminded me of an oil and vinegar that you would dip your bread in. The steak is the best beef I've ever eaten I had the fillet and it was cooked to perfection with sensational peppercorn encrusted. Went here for my birthday dinner and it was really good. You can make a reservation online or call them. They have a few different areas of seating, there is the bar that has happy hour, then a few different sections for the dinning area. The steak I got was a filet and it was cooked to perfection. Melt in your mouth delicious, it comes with a side that you can choose from. The side was good but the star of the dish was the steak for sure. The pricing is great compared to the other steak houses in Austin, especially since you get a side. The bread are puffy little rolls, those were good as well. My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak, I tried some of it and I wouldn't recommend it, it was too chewy for my liking, and not even in the same ball park as the steak. His mistake was coming to a steak house and not getting a true steak, medium rare. The mashed potatoes were really good though, I would recommend his side over my mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was a little too watery for me. We got the Cheesecake for dessert, it was on a Oreo crust, and it was good, I opted for all strawberries as my fruit. The plus side is they have their own parking lot, where you can park, unlike most of the Austin Downtown Steak houses, where the only option is street parking or Valet parking. This place is definitely much better than most other steak houses in Austin, not because of their parking, but the food and the competitive pricing. I would like to say that this restaurant was phenomenal. We started off with a Happy Hour. This establishment has a happy hour menu. Happy Hour is from 4:00 to 7:00. There are a large variety of items on the Happy Hour menu at great prices (see menu attached). In addition to a large selection of Happy Hour meals, there are a variety of adult spirits to relax from a long day. The service was great and the management was very accommodating. Way to go Scott!!!! The bartenders were efficient fast and friendly and the atmosphere was romantic and/or professional. The prices on dinner plates average around $20 per plate. Overall great steak experience. Glad they had the Tomahawk Bone-in Ribeye. Such an amazing steak to share. Great appetizers too! Although I came to Texas trying to get some Texas local beef. If you want a good steak go somewhere else, if you want a great steak you go to ALC. Food and service is a always outstanding. Michael our server was excellent on our most recent visit. I had the 12oz Ribeye with a loaded baked potato. We also tried the grilled tomato and onion salad and the clam chowder. Steak was cooked perfectly and was so good. The clam chowder was a pleasant surprise and was really really good. Every time we come here whether for dinner or happy hour it is outstanding. Alright! Visited this steakhouse with my wife and mother in law. I love the way this place looks and feels very welcoming. The staff here were also very friendly and attentive. We ordered the Crab Cakes for a starter which came out quickly and were very good. Warm and the sauce and salad paired well together. Now the steaks on the other hand were on another level! I ordered the rib eye steak while my wife and mother in law shared a Filet. Both steaks were cooked perfectly. But the best part was the rub they used for both. I guess there are like 10 or so spices that were put on the meat and man they were so flavorful and delicious. Now I can understand where some people would consider that cheating because steaks should be seasoned with salt and pepper.
