My party of 9 arrived at 6pm and we were treated to a fantastic feast. We shared a variety of delicious appetizers, to include: dal puri, haleem, pakora, paratha, and naan. We were already full! Then our main orders came... biryana, kabobs, and curries... all delicious and all authentically prepared. When we could not have another bite, we were treated with the most wonderful gulab jamun. Most of us had enough leftovers for another meal! I strongly recommend that you visit Aladdin. I suspect you will be very happy! read more

We recently visited Aladdin Restaurant in Washington, DC, and I must say, it was a wonderful experience for anyone who loves authentic Bengali food. From the moment I walked in, I felt a warm and welcoming atmosphere that reminded me of home-style dining. The staff were polite, friendly, and very attentive, making sure everything was perfect throughout my visit. I ordered several Bengali dishes, and every item was full of rich flavor and traditional taste. The rice was fresh and perfectly cooked, the curries were well-balanced with spices, and the fish and meat dishes were tender and delicious. The bhorta, dal, and vegetable items tasted just like homemade food, which is hard to find in many restaurants. The aroma and presentation of the food made the experience even better. What I loved most was the authenticity. You can truly feel that the chefs understand Bengali cuisine and prepare each dish with care. The portion sizes were generous, and the prices were reasonable for the quality and taste. The restaurant was clean, comfortable, and suitable for families, friends, or even solo dining. Whether you are missing Bangladeshi flavors or simply want to explore traditional Bengali food, this place is a great choice. Overall, Aladdin Restaurant is a hidden gem in DC for Bengali food lovers. I highly recommend it and will definitely be coming back again. read more

HORRIBLE place and disrespectful owner. I ordered the beef curry, and the whole thing was just curry sauce, with two tiny pieces of meat. When I called the restaurant, the owner initially apologized but only offered to make it right the next time I ordered. When I shared that he should be making it right for this time, he refused. On top of it, the dishes are overflowing with oil. As someone of South Asian descent, don't waste your money on crap food and customer service. read more

Dang!!!! I wish their was a way to leave a zero. The owner is this old guy with the dad pot belly who is EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE about his parking spots. I pulled in to buy from HIS restaurant and the fool came to yell at me, even AFTER I told him I'm going to his place. When I went inside to get some food, jerky boy hovered over me!!!! And the food was NOT EVEN GOOD!!!! Biryani like toilet water!!! Oily and soggy. Zero flavor zero taste zero seasoning. He started giving me some speech about how his life is so hard when I went to pay. What is he ACTUALLY smoking????? How disgusting through and through!!! Plus there are reports that said owner was involved in credit card fraud. So NOPE NOPE never ever ever again!!!! Aladdin take ur genie and plz shove it where the sun don't shine!!! read more

I won't let a young girl into my Yelp account, but I will let Aladdin. Especially if he agrees that this is some of the yummiest food in Northern Virginia. Aladdin is one of my favourite little unheralded restaurants in the DC area and one of the true gems of the Virginia suburbs. This wonderful owner is serving authentic Bangladeshi Cuisine with a real flair and style. So far I've only tried the signature beef dish, the Beef Tehari, but it was absolutely amazing. It was competitively priced at around the $10 and filled me up completely. A little greasy which is how I like it. Dry but not as much as some Biryani places. I would definitely come back here and can't wait to try other stuff. I recommend it to everyone. Forget A La Carte dishes. And come to A La Ddin instead. read more

it's a very good restaurant. we like it. the food is great. please go there and enjoy the food. Thanks

I ordered 2 beef tehari's here the other day and the guy over the phone told me it will take 2 hours to make. I said that fine. 2 hours later, I show up to the restaurant and am given old soggy rice and barely any meat in the tehari. I really wanted to go up and say something but because it was my birthday, I didn't want to make it into a bad day by complaining. I was extremely upset over the fact that they told me to wait 2 hours for them to make fresh food but when I got there, you could tell it wasn't fresh at all and he barely gave me meat. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. read more

I have two criteria for rating any restaurant. The first criteria is the authenticity of the food. The second is the cleanliness of the bathroom. The place failed miserably on both. We are visiting Washington DC for an extended weekend. After checking in our hotel, we looked for authentic Bangladeshi food and we decided to give the place a try. The place has reasonable interior. The service also meets expectations. We ordered kacchi biriyani and shrimp dopeaza per advise and head to bathroom for washing our hand. The poor condition of cleanliness of the place is very difficult to ignore. The food is alright if you do not have any idea what authentic Bangladeshi cuisine taste like. But, for us the food missed the mark by a mile. Not recommended at all. read more

Imagine my surprise reading a DC foodie blog, and stumbling across a Bangladeshi restaurant! Don't get me wrong, our food is DELICIOUS, but not many people have discovered it yet. And since I'm not regularly taking groups of people home to try my native cuisine, and I certainly do not know how to cook it, it's hard for me to usually introduce the deliciousness of Bangladeshi cuisine to my friends. Well, no longer! Enter Aladdin! As soon as I read the article, I convinced one of my friends to check it out with me that same night, and it was every bit as amazing as I could've hoped. We started with the fuchka (also known of pani puri, or gol goppi) which is essentially little crispy dough (I think?) balls, that come with a tangy/spicy soup sauce combo. The way to eat it is to fill each ball with some of the sauce, top it with additional spices if preferred, and then pop it in your mouth to bite and enjoy all the flavors at once. It's traditionally a street food, but here you can get all the yumminess of street food, without all the potential bacteria of the actual street foods of Bangladesh. We then continued with the haleem which can be best be described as minced meat soup/stew like dish. It's made of wheat, barley, lentils and meat (chicken in this case). This is another favorite appetizer of mine due to the richness and variety of all the spices and flavors. For my main dish, I got a fish curry (I mean, we *are* known for fish & rice after all), and it did not disappoint. It tasted like my mom's just without the side of lectures about why I'm not married with kids already. SO, essentially perfect in my book. :) My friend ordered the chicken korma which was also very authentic- though my only comment would be the fact that they use breast meat for their korma, and I generally prefer thigh and wings in my korma for more flavor. All in all, Aladdin was a wonderful experience, and I'll definitely be back with more friends so that I can finally introduce them to some of the foods I love and hold dear to my heart. read more

About a 3.5: The Aladdin Restaurant has been around for about 1.5 years and is located in a small plaza off of Lee Highway. My husband and I came here to try out their famous 'Sunday Brunch,' which was set in a buffet style. They only offer the buffet option on Sunday, and an other days, you just order off their menu. They have items such as: appetizers (samosas, chat patee, halim, fuchka, and moghlai-porota), vegetable dishes (shobjee bhajee, aloo bhajee, vindi bhajee, dal makhani, etc.), biryani (chicken, beef, goat, shrimp, vegetable, etc.), kabobs, meat dishes (chicken curry, chicken karahi, lamb vindaloo, etc.), seafood entrees (shrimp dopiaza, shrimp malai curry, etc.), and desserts. The selections at the buffet was not extensive, but I did find some specific dishes that I really enjoyed: the chewy roti bread, the juicy & flavorful tandoori chicken, and the beef & cabbage. I can definitely see myself getting the entree version or a carry-out of the beef & cabbage, as the beef itself was tender and tasted like braised beef with slightly crunchy cabbage slices, great with a mound of rice. There was also lentils, rice, cauliflower, and chicken samosas (that I wasn't a fan of). There was hot tea (that you can make yourself with the hot water) and cold water, as well as soft beverages you can purchase as an addition. The place was jam-packed with locals as well as families to take advantage of the food. The manager was walking around, making sure that everything is good, and she was also brooming up the place to keep the place clean and tidy. The buffet itself was $10 per person, inclusive of tax, so I thought that was a great bargain. The food itself was pretty solid, and it was a great way to sample what they can offer on the menu. I would like to come back and try out their curry dishes as well as their chicken karahi. +Sunday Brunch Buffet - $10 per person +beef & cabbage +chewy roti bread (a great alternative to regular naan bread) read more

If you like authentic "Bengal" food, this is your only option. Their biriyanis are very different than the regular Indian style ones. They make 'Kacchi Biriyanis' only on Saturdays and most of the time they are sold out. Their Tehari is also a best seller. But but,, if you want to have real quality sweets, this is the place for your Bengal sweets!! Only bad side of the restaurant is, its not a great ambiance for date or something romantic. They only are focused on the food part. Will miss this place!! read more

We did a recent catering from this place for about 50 people. The price was way above the quality. The people are nice and friendly inside, however the food tasted very bland. The chicken roast was not cooked all the way through, tasted like chewy rubber. The kabobs felt like 80% lentil and 20% meat and was pretty tasteless. The serving size for per person rice was max 1-1/2 cup which is ridiculous and embarrassing when our guest found out how small amount of rice was given. We are told that the vegetable will be Chinese style however it was as bland as the other items. The beef curry tasted chunk rubber of meat boiled in raw cumin with too loose gravy. The sweet is the only thing that tasted OK. If you are planning to order from this place for catering then be aware of the embarrassment you may face due to low amount of serving that tastes nothing like what's advertised. read more

THE WORST. AVOID. I love South Asian food. I am not sure what it is that came to my home from Aladdin Restaurant this evening via Amazon Delivery. For starters, one item -- the item ordered for the one vegetarian in the house--was cancelled, but not in time for us to change our order in any way. So surprise! The food arrived, and we discovered that one of us would not be eating dinner tonight. No food for you, person. (Read: I now have to cook a meal, which if I had wanted to do in the first place, I would not have ordered food delivered.) In retrospect, she was the luckiest one of the entire party of three. But here's the thing: whenever this has happened with other delivery services, the restaurant has CALLED me to tell me this was happening, and would I like to change my order? That did not happen here. Just a text, which happened too late for me to change my order or do anything. The food that did arrive? The samosas--if you can call them that--were overwhelmingly full of red pepper. Imagine mashed potatoes with a little turmeric in them (enough to make them yellow) but mostly red pepper--with 5 green peas thrown in the mix. And no sauces came with the two orders of samosas, with which EVERY SINGLE RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER VISITED SERVES THEM. Would sauce have covered the taste? Who knows. Both chicken items -- Reshmi Kabob and Tikka -- arrived with half of the container filled with half of a raw onion. Why? I've had grilled onions along for the ride from other restaurants, but raw onion? The Reshmi Kabob was not fully cooked, and for an item that was supposed to have a creamy sauce? This chicken was dry as a bone and flavorless. The chicken tikka, which had sat on the aforementioned raw onion, only tasted like...wait for it...RAW ONION. The naan--at the same time, my daughter and I said, "Wow, this naan tastes like naan that was made from Pillsbury canned dough!" It really tasted like someone took Pillsbury crescent dough and rolled it into naan shapes. And the rice -- for which you have to pay extra, by the way -- tasted as if no one rinsed it before they cooked it. You actually could taste dirt. I have never ordered from Aladdin before. I have never ordered using Amazon Delivery before. I will be avoiding both now. I am sick to my stomach after eating chicken that may or may not have been fully cooked. read more

Absolutely the best Desi (South Asian) restaurant we have found in the area! (We're South Asian.) Blend of spices is well-balanced. Meats are tender. Brought my mom here for Mother's Day (so we had the Sunday buffet). They have halwa puri on Sundays, which got us pretty excited. Halwa is not too sweet; it's just right. And puris are thin. None of the food was too oily, like many South Asian and Indian restaurants tend to do to compensate for taste. Service was friendly as well. And the bathrooms and restaurant were clean. We'll definitely be back again and again! Don't think twice about trying this place -- you won't be disappointed! read more

This restaurant used to be one of my favorites, I used to give it 5 stars, and I brought so many people here. However, it's been sold to new management and they've ruined the place. The food is nowhere near as good, prices have gone up, and ingredient quality and portions have gone down. They have all new people preparing the good, and I think the lost the old recioes. This place was once lowkey NOVA gem, now it's just another place where you get ripped off. read more

Love this spot, my family has been coming for years. The beef tehari is amazing and the haleem is pretty great as well!

I am Bangladeshi, so I have pretty good qualifications to evaluate the food here. We ordered roast chicken, beef tehari and tikka masala. So, I have to say that the food would probably generally get 3 stars from me - I found the roast chicken's seasoning to be overpowering and the side of polao was really big. The beef tehari, however, was very satisfying and had perfect utilization of mustard oil (which can easily be overpowering). The wait staff is EXCELLENT. Incredibly friendly and courteous :). The main reason I give them 4 stars (other than the staff's courtesy) is that the catered a wedding I attended a while back, and the tandoori chicken, kababs, polao and biryani were OUT OF THIS WORLD. Aladdin catering is a must have if you are planning any big desi event. read more

Sunday brunch buffet is a great value ($10pp). They had 6 dishes in addition to fried bread and yellow rice. There was also one dish at the end that may have been a dessert that I did not try and did not find out what it was. They had 3 vegetarian dishes (yellow lentils, potatoes, & cabbage) out of the 5. My favorite items were the tandoori chicken (10/10, I was really impressed since it was buffet!) and the lentils. Aladdin was not busy while we were there, about 30% of the tables were filled. Service was great, they were friendly but basically just let people be since they had the buffet. Can't wait to go back! Great place to get full for not a lot of $$. read more

The food here is absolutely amazing! It's home cooking like none other. It's as if someone's mother was in the back making each and every order herself, which is probably the case. I'm not really a curry person, so I think the food is especially good here because they don't drench everything in sauces. It's flavorful, but not too overwhelming. And they have the best samosas in the area! Hands down! I HIGHLY recommend this place if you want amazing Bengali food! read more

A solid 4 stars. I liked the service and the front staff. The menu is small and simple, variations on 2 basic themes. Ordered vegetable samosas, naan, chicken curry and had some of the yogurt/pudding sweet stuff. The samosas were spot on, just hot enough, and tasty. I normally eat meat samosas, but these were awesome. The chicken curry had a great mellow flavor, not terribly spicy. The yogurt/pudding was very sweet, but after the savory of dinner it was a great touch. The reasons for the 1 star downtick: the naan, bones, and rice. The naan had the look and mouth feel of a tortilla. Gharer has them beat there. The chicken while extremely good, was just a bunch of bone laden pieces. That seems to be par for the course in Bengali cuisine, so this is the least of my concern. The menu said that a bowl of rice was included, but alas, it was not included in my meal. But I will try this place again. read more

What we have here is a bit of a gem. Informal, clean, friendly, and serving some of the finest bengladeshi food I've ever had. We all have off days...maybe yesterday was one of those days. Butter chicken was shredded chicken, should've been whole pieces.
